What I loved: -Very friendly and helpful staff -Good quality breakfast - loved the peach strawberry lassi. You can opt to have dinner prepped and boxed for you too. Great food service. -Pine Room had the best view, you'll see the most birds coming to the bird feeders What was different: -Extensive DVD collection and games to choose from -Since cell phones aren't reliable here and front staff leaves at a certain hour, you have to call for help using a land line. -Wine hour at 5pm daily. -Two person soak tub and shower with great pressure -No AC, but opening the windows allows for a cool breeze. -Note that "food service gratuity" is added to room charges when you check out. We were charged $47.47 for 2 nights. What I wasn't a fan of: -Very thin ceilings and walls, you will hear everything in the lobby and other rooms and it will keep you up. -Cell phone reception is spotty to non-existent.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 Hubby and I came here for a quick babymoon since I'm a high risk pregnancy unable to fly. I had researched best baby moons in California and this came up. We spent 2 days & nights here and added the babymoon package. It included massages for us both, 2 $15 gift certificates for a pizza/ice cream parlor & toy store just 5 minutes away, a baby book, & belly bar. We were also welcomed with a toffee bar, bottle of sparkling cider, & a couple beers for him. Room was ready and clean upon arrival. Bed was a little too plush for hubby's liking being 6ft & nearly 300lbs just sinking in it. Massages were good; I fell asleep during mine. Our stay included breakfast and a wine & light dinner service. I couldn't indulge in wine, but there was water, sparkling water, coffee, hot chocolate, and tea available. The dinner offering was underwhelming. We ended up going to dinner in town both nights, not because of portion, but rather the quality/ flavor of the food. However, breakfast was always fresh and amazing. The hashbrowns were crispy and flavorful. They also had light pastry snack available with the teas & coffees. We enjoyed those over the dinner selection. All in all, we had a good stay. Staff is so friendly. Quiet and peaceful with the exception we were on the first floor and could hear the staff in the lobby/ hallway in the morning as well as the patrons upstairs with extra curricular activities. I wouldn't have cared any other time, but at 7 months pregnant, I was just trying to get my sleep before I can't anymore. Not sure if it was worth the price point. We could have stayed a little closer to SF, Napa or Carmel. The drive up along the 101 & 128 left me nauseous. My husband who can drive in SF hill & LA traffic no problem had to slow down for all the curves. Bring ginger chews for the windy roads and let all the angry locals over take you on the drive up. It was an overall good experience, but I guess I had been hyped up from all the reviews. I'm also comparing it to trips I've taken around California and overseas for similar price points

We came back to celebrate our anniversary and it was such a disappointment this time around. We have recommended this spot to so many people and we were very excited to come back but it was not the same. The food was mediocre at best, most nights it seemed like a frozen Trader Joe's meal. Our bed was very uncomfortable, seemed like it had been broken previously and not replaced. We had a noise issue but Isabel took care of it and was wonderful. Besides Isabel the staff was just ok. For the price it is not worth it and I am sad to say I don't think we will be going back.

I decided to treat my wife to a babymoon but wanted something different than the island getaway. The Brewery Gulch Inn was highly reccom3nded online so we decided to give it a try. I booked 4 nights, one night was Valentines Day, with an additional babymoon package. The experience at the Inn was absolutely perfect. We had breakfast everyday, made to order and it was absolutely delicious. Everyday trying something new. Wine hour starting at 530pm was a pleasant surprise prior to us going to dinner. They even had a non alcoholic wine that was delicious for my pregnant wife. There was amazing views, easy access to Russian Gulch and Port Cabrillo Lighthouse hikes. Mendicino was 5 minutes away and Ft. Bragg was only 15 minutes. But honestly, we could stay in the Inn each day and enjoy ourselves watch a movie (provided) or playing board games (also probided) we enjoyed the cheese board and spa treatment which were part of the babymoon package so much. Honestly, this was a perfect getaway from our crazy busy lives. If you have the chance, book it. It's worth it.

Amazing place, great staff and amazing all inclusive food and drinks, wonderful massage therapists and great location to downtown Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

Pork schnitzel with onions, capers, and a lemon sauce... as well as cinnamon bread pudding with espresso whipped cream!

    * = Best food we had in Mendocino * = Extremely comfortable bed & chairs in room * = Huge tub in bathroom, with shutters for ocean-viewing while relaxing * = Incredibly helpful, polite staff * = Gorgeous grounds with ideal view This was, bar none, the absolute best lodging experience we've encountered thus far in all of California. The Brewery Gulch Inn offers an intimate, relaxing, romantic setting for anybody looking to escape the grind and recharge for a few days. My wife and I hadn't taken a vacation in a long time. While we're no stranger to Disneyland or Vegas, our favorite trips tend to be quieter ones. Pismo Beach, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Aptos... places near the water where you can stretch out and relax, without feeling over-stimulated. Mendocino seemed perfect and after only a short bit of Googling, it seemed that the Brewery Gulch was THE location to try. The Brewery Gulch is an impressive wood cabin from the outside, with an enviable, serene garden on the brief drive in. As soon as we stepped out of the car and into the gravel parking lot, the subtle, intoxicating aroma of burning firewood welcomed us. The great room (where you check-in, eat, and enjoy wine hour) is an impressive sight, with a huge wood burning fireplace, wide selection of games, movies, and reading material, and enormous glass windows that expresses every inch of the nearby Mendocino coastline - including a gorgeous view of the cove, with the greater Pacific Ocean clearly in-sight just over the hill. Every single staff member that we encountered was helpful, polite, and happy. We arrived during wine hour and were treated to the absolute best bowl of seafood chowder that I've ever had in my life. Beyond that, there was a sweet vinegarette salad with mixed greens and gorgonzola, as well as dessert: a perfectly assembled berry shortcake, in which the cake was cubed and tossed with blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and a clearly made-in-house whipped cream. We stayed 3 nights. Every meal was tastier than the one that preceded it. For those wondering: the appetizers that they serve during wine hour are more than enough for dinner. We didn't go hungry once. We stayed in the Osprey room, which had a clear view of the ocean. Very large tub that my wife and I had no trouble sharing. In-room fireplace, two of the most comfortable leather chairs you're ever going to find, the best foot ottoman I've ever used, and a feathertop King sized bed that we absolutely melted into. Despite everything we loved about Brewery Gulch, I should mention the following (in the spirit of full transparency): the rooms do not include air conditioning... though the cool, mild climate doesn't really necessitate it. The large soaking tub is very decadent, but when you opt for a shower instead of a bath, the water pressure completely vanishes. And lastly: as wonderful as the staff is, they leave the premises at 8 PM. So, when one of your neighbors is blaring their TV through the fairly thin walls at 11 PM, your choices are to either try to ignore it or go knock on that person's door. To their credit, the Brewery Gulch does have a sign beneath all TVs, asking you to only play soft volume after 9 PM. All things considered: none of those minor inconveniences even came close to upsetting our stay at the Brewery Gulch. From the moment we checked in, we were in heaven... and we can't wait to go back again!

Ask the Community - Brewery Gulch Inn

    Are dogs allowed?

No, I am sorry but we are not setup to accommodate pets. I can recommend both the Stanford Inn and the Little River Inn as properties that exceed expectations for guests with pets.

Are there fireplaces in the rooms?

Yes. Their website has full details of each room.

This was the absolute cutest idea I have done in a long while, although the nights were absolutely freezing during November which I do not recommend, if you can't withstand the cold. It was still enjoyable though. I recommend doing this during the lovely summer, I am sure it's amazing. They have clean bathrooms to shower. Communal area for coffee and breakfast with small snacks. They had this absolutely amazing apple bread I had to call them for the recipe, it was soooo good. It was a nice walk to get coffee, coffee was decent as well, no complaints. Raccoons will be the biggest problem, they do warn you prior and say to hide all dog food and human food in the large heavy chest that is located outside your tent. I thought I had put everything inside the chest and I was laying down and I heard something outside, so I get up and my neighbor said the raccoon had taken something from my bag, I finally realized the next day it was my dogs combs ugh. I was sad to say the least so don't make the same mistake as I did, make sure to put all things in that chest lol. I am assuming they thought it was food. The staff were very friendly upon check in, and when I called back to for the apple bread recipe. I forgot to mention that I wish they would invest in way better heated blankets for the colder months especially if we can't bring our own. The ones that were included and on the bed were just not heating up enough for the 40 degree temps. Cute little spot for a getaway!

Mendocino is adorable, and has a completely relaxed vibe. Now, for starters, when I think of a room "suite" you're expecting pretty nice amenities. You definitely want to feel like you have the comforts of home at your disposal. This room is listed as having. . . White Water Ocean Views King Featherbed Wood-burning Fireplace Mini Fridge Private Bath Tub and Shower So, let's get into it..... Firstly, I found it very easy to reserve the room via the app from Booking.com It's one of my preferred travel reservation methods, and the Inn Keeper John later reached out to confirm payment details and to charge the room just before my stay. That part was very simple. We arrived on Sat 14th around 3 ish in the afternoon to be greeted by one of the hosts named Diane. She is very welcoming and friendly. Gave us a little tour, asked if we needed anything, showed us to our room, etc. Diane gets 10 stars for her individual role within the Bed and Breakfast. Mind you, December is VERY cold in Mendocino. Some roads can be flooded. The ocean waves are angry but beautiful. It's windy and rainy. It's cold!! But I am dating a winter snow bear so she likes to feel the chill while retreating to a comfortable room. For this review, I am going to simplify it with a pros/cons list of how the experience was for 2 days, 2 nights. PROS --- Diane makes homemade cookies daily. Delicious! Delicious homemade breakfast served daily outside the room (picture) Wonderful upstairs views of the ocean tides Best homemade pesto sauce I have ever had during breakfast A very large plush king sized bed with like 12 pillows A mini fridge which is appreciated Strong fast wifi connection A seating area to eat cookies and interact with other guests Walking distance to the town of Mendocino A large enough room where we didn't directly hear too much noise above or below Up front parking right by the Inn You have a set of keys to come and go at all hours from the front locking door to your room. CONS --- Featherbed, you say? It is so plush, that you have zero support for joints. For those of us in our 40s, we went from a relaxing massage in town, to waking up with back and joint pain from it being too feathery. No support. Tub and Shower? Sure. They even have a cute lavender sleep bath salt. What could be the problem. How about that the tub only filled up with barely lukewarm water. My breath has more heat. The tub and shower wasn't cold, but it definitely did not warm us. My partner had to use the tea kettle to boil water and pour me a bath. The lamp on one side of the bed kept flickering and wouldn't turn on. We had one lamp across the room by the sofa. One small lamp on the other side of the bed. One very wobbly lamp on the table by the bay view window. And the bathroom lights. The room is dark and dreary. Oh, let's not forget the wood-burning Fireplace. I have never been so anxiety filled near a fireplace. The fireplace is the only place to really have warmth. The room itself is large and drafty so it will get cold. There's a tiny space heater behind the couch but that does nothing. You could touch it with your hand. The fireplace chain screen that is there as a safety measure so you don't have fiery embers flinging out on the carpet or worse, on you, doesn't close all the way! It is very old and outdated. Downright safety hazard! I was cold every day, and every night. I couldn't get heat from the tub, shower, fireplace, space heater or anything! Obviously, we cuddled and had the bed blankets, but then your back hurts from the pillow softness. The couch is more comfortable. I am not even going out of my way to find negativity with the stay. This is just how it went! For the price of this suite, my experience was very disappointing! I have been cold ever since! We would not stay again.
