Bettilou's Inn (Bed and Breakfast) at Mendocino, California.
My wife and I stayed at BettiLou's for 3 nights in June. We normally don't stay at bed and breakfast establishments because we like our independence, and we don't want to feel like we're encroaching on the privacy of someone's personal space. For those of like-mind, rest assured that this is not the kind of place that makes you feel like you are sharing someone else's home.
This sprawling home sits on a bluff looking out across Mendocino Bay towards the village of Mendocino. At one end of Bettilou's home you find two rooms for guests. Each room has its own bathroom with shower, a TV, and a small fridge. One room has a beautiful unobstructed view of the Pacific. The other one has the garden view. Bettilou and her husband live in their own area with a quaint living room separating the two areas.
Around 4:30 in the afternoon Bettilou comes out to the living room to serve wine and snacks. This is a great time to meet the other guests. It is a better time to relax and listen to Bettilou's stories about the area. She is a wealth of information about events, history, and places to eat or visit. And then before you know it, she is off to her side of the house - leaving you to contemplate the nights dining choices. Also, there is a nice patio right off the living room where you can enjoy the sunset, or just relax to the sounds of the ocean.
We were shocked at how nice the weather was! Warm days, great sunsets, cool nights, and no fog. Though, you never can tell what it will be like on the coast. So, dress in layers! Even though the nights were cool to cold, we slept with a window open and the room still stayed warm. Even with the gas fireplace turned off!. After a great nights rest in a really comfortable bed you will get a gentle knock on the door.
At the hour you designated the night before, Bettilou will be there at your door with your breakfast. A nice hot, homemade start to the day. This is not a typical hotel continental breakfast. This is a real breakfast made in her kitchen that morning.
So, would I stay here again? You betcha! read more
