Spent a few nights while in town visiting, the view on the water is hard to beat. On the north edge of town, independently owned. The entry had construction going on during our visit but it did not interfere or detour from our stay. Friendly front desk, easy check in and check out. We reserved an upstairs unit, a King bed upstairs with a fireplace and a jacuzzi, that had a small semi-private balcony. The room was kind of a time warp, with the over the top head board and huge ornate mouldings. But it was spacious, warm and comfortable during our extended stay. A comfortable bed, the furnishing were as well. A large bathroom with a corner shower, it served its purpose. A wetbar area, apartment size fridge and coffee maker, along with a table and two chairs at the large bay window. Seriously some of the best unobstructed views on the coast. Literally nothing between you and the ocean other than the dunes. Only a few hundred feet from the water, the sheer drop off allows for impressive views and scenery. 3.5 Stars rounded up for the world class view 01155 read more

The view is stellar otherwise this would be a one star review. The property is in decline. It used to be our go to spot in Fort Bragg but this is our last stay there. Room was some what stripped down this year. The couch removed, much smaller table, small chairs, coffee downgraded, fridge didn't keep temperature, drains were slow and backing up in the shower, shampoo soap and crème rinse were watered down, beds were either totally worn out or replaced with cheap thin horribly uncomfortable beds and balcony railing was failing apart. Customer service was nonexistent, seriously. So sad as our prior stays were wonderful. Not this properties fault but there is a lot of construction on the road that makes access to the driveway difficult. read more

We loved this place when we stayed there before but it was not the same place this time around. The furniture was replaced with cheap uncomfortable chairs and a table too small to be useful. The beds were extreme uncomfortable. The fellow at the desk seemed bored, disinterested and , obviously, stuck in place he would rather not be. Overall, it looks unloved and in disrepair. The view is still amazing but we'll look elsewhere next year. I'd skip it if I were you. There is a new place being built next door which looks promising. So sad. read more

I came here for three nights just to spend some time at the ocean on a personal retreat. I hadn't been here for 8 years but used to come annually and always loved it. I was disappointed this time. They've replaced the rich, dark wood furnishings with this gaudy gold colored cheap-looking stuff. The bathroom area had such a strong smell of bleach, it was unpleasant. On a positive note, everything was very clean and the view of the ocean was spectacular, as it's always been. The person that checked me in was friendly. We have stayed at the Ocean View Lodge for years. Always a comfortable place to stay with a beautiful view of the ocean. We haven't been for a couple of years but recently decided a retreat to Ft. Bragg was in order. Imagine our surprise when we opened the door to our usual room and found it filled with the gaudiest furniture we had ever seen. Gone was the comfy couch and chair in the sitting room. In their place were what I can only describe as thrones. High backed golden chairs which were impossible to sit in. The bedroom area consisted of a golden head board, gold night stands and a large golden cabinet. The furnishings were atrocious. The one saving Grace was the view. Also, we were given a notice that there would be no maid service. So three stars for the view. Zero stars for the furnishings. read more

After coming here 4 times in the last 6 months. The last time I decided to never come back again and instead go to The Beachcomber moving forward. The last time I was here, black mold shot out of the jets in the whirlpool. I thought it may just need a quick flushing. After flushing it about four times, it got even worse. I notified the front desk, and they told me they're maintenance guy would see it in the morning. Keep in mind that we drove 4 hours from the bay area just for the whirlpool and the view. The manager's solution was to credit me $30, which i never spoke to by the way. He claimed someone complained about my child in the room which is supposedly a violation, which I understood, even though my kid was not a problem the last 3 times I visited. I asked the front desk girl about the policy and that i had seen children in the rooms every time i had visited. She admitted that it usually isn't a big deal but that a regular complained downs stairs. Again fine, my mistake. The problem was that they tried to use my kid as a reason to disregard the disgusting mold coming out of the whirlpool. No one goes there for the outdated tacky rooms. Its the view and the whirlpool. They have no staff, the office closed an hour early. They had no extra pillows. The ceiling fan in the bathroom dripped water on your head. Luckily, i had stayed at The Beachcomber on New Years due to this place being booked, and I can tell you it was ten times better and cheaper! And they had no issues with my kid in the spa room. I hesitantly, booked the the Ocean View Lodge this last time knowing about the service difference, but they have a slightly better view of the ocean compared to Surf and Sand and The Beachcomber, and both are cheaper and offer whirlpools in their rooms with an ocean view. Ocean View Lodge lost a long time customer due to incompetent management. They ruined our MLK weekend and only offered 30 bucks. What a joke, they must be desperate, which is why the customer service is basically nonexistent. The Beachcomber has firepits and free bikes to explore, and they have someone at the front desk all night. Oh, and they dont make you choose between your family and/or a relaxing time. Cheap owners, I'm assuming. Why they are the most expensive is unknown. After staying at the other lodges, it's befuddling. They dont even have usb plugs. Geez, ill stop. I never give negative reviews but these guys can have it for the $30 they spent on turning away a very loyal customer. Do yourself a favor and go to The Beachcomber. What happened? We have been choosing this place for years because of the separate room, comfortable sitting area and the view! Yikes, now they have removed the comfortable albeit old furniture and in its place is this very uncomfortable gaudy gold cheap looking stuff. There are wear marks and scuffed edges with rips and stains on the "couch"! It's a shame to have such a spectacular view and ruin the stay with no couch or chair anyone would be comfortable in. Was very impressed with our room. Cleanest I've seen in a long time. I loved the ornate "Asian Princess" style room. Made me feel like I was someplace special. Not just a carbon copy of every other hotel. There was not a spec of dust, even in the nooks and crannies of the ornate furniture. Good view from first floor ADA room. 2nd floor would probably be better as the bluff blocked part of the view. Also was very quiet all night. The electric heaters were almost silent and no noise heard from other rooms or the road. The only downside is there did not appear to be any AC in the room BUT on the northern CA coast you would probably only miss it a few days a year. Almost always you would open the door for the sea breeze. Keep in mind this is a small Motel style facility so no pool, room service or 24/7 housekeeping. read more

We drive an EV and needed a place with a charger to stay. This place has Tesla destination chargers, which our Bolt EUV can use with an adapter. Nobody else was using them the whole time we were there, and they were simple and reliable. Easily back to a full charge by morning. The room itself (King tub upstairs) was very spacious. The wind off the ocean in this cold year chilled us when we were out enjoying the scenery, so it was great to have a gas fireplace and a tub big enough for my husband and I to enjoy together, with jets! The first morning, a seagull came and sat on our balcony and stayed the whole time until we decided to leave. read more

I have been staying at this particular establishment for nearly four years now and I have to say my latest visit was superb. They have been making upgrades and it shows. The room was clean and looking fabulous. The water pressure in the shower was amazing. I love that they have installed microwaves. The chairs on the balcony were very comfortable. This is my favorite place to stay in Fort Bragg, and for good reason. You get an amazing view of the ocean, access to the coastal trail for walking or biking, walking distance to the beach, and it is close to town. In my opinion this establishment offers the most variety of amenities and comfort. Great job on all your upgrades Ocean View Lodge. The ocean is why you're here in Mendocino County, and this is where you'll get to go to bed and wake up to amazing views and ocean sounds. As many note, the decor is outdated, but it's very (very!) spacious and has amenities I appreciate -- a Keurig coffee maker, an ocean view balcony, fridge, microwave, and a dining table for 2 next to a big picture window (with an ocean view, of course). Staff is great. Place is in a great location - clear views of the ocean, nearby beach at Pudding Creek, and this used to be our "go to" spot. We'd seen the place go "down hill" a little, but then new owners appeared and were making much needed repairs. Then they decided to remodel - in a style that is, well, gaudy, over bearing, and just ugly - at least to us. They have managed to make the rooms smaller by replacing the furniture with larger bed frames with huge headboards and adding upholstered scroll end benches to each room. Upon arrival for our latest stay, we were given an upstairs room where the "new" furniture - specifically the bed frame, was cracked at the foot end on both sides. A repair had been made, but the repair was horrible work - the cracks still showed and the frame appeared "bowed" out on each end. Staff was very accommodating - we immediately switched to another room. That room wasn't much better as far as the furniture goes. We found stains on a scroll end bench and damage to the table by the window and a bedside cabinet. This "new" furniture appeared used and abused to us. We were shown a nice display of what a future remodel will do to the rooms here. Not a style we appreciate. You be the judge - we think its a change for the worse - but if you like a style from France and England from the 1800's (guessing here - it could be another influence) this will be your spot. What I will say is the view is a 10/10 ! Downfall is the room. Yuck. Super outdated. Beds are hard as a rock. Horrible maroon color. TV is not high definition it's very old. I was given a downstairs and so I couldn't open my door to air it out or people would see right into place as they walk by. Or air it at night because the room doesn't have AC and the room gets really stuffy. The blinds were too short for the door, so I had a 9 inch gap open at the bottom of the door where people could see right in to the bed where I was sleeping. Went to the office and they gave me a box to put in front of it after suggesting I use my suitcase to cover it up. Lame considering how much I paid for the place. Funky hole in the bathroom ceiling. The phone didn't work so I had to go to the office for them to tell me to use a certain line. Odd. No continental breakfast. I asked about it and was told because of COVID but oddly I've been elsewhere I've been, they've served a nice breakfast. View is worth the money, room is definitely not and I'll spend a few more dollars staying elsewhere Mentioned it to the lady at the front desk. Older with glasses and said she couldn't give me a discount because I used hotels.com. Doesn't mean I got a deal. I still paid the same I just got my rewards points. Excuse !! This was the second time we stayed here and customer service has been lacking both times. This most recent trip we stayed for four days. During our entire stay the Wi-Fi never worked. They had warned us about this at check-in stating that the connection is always quite weak but we could come into the office to use their Wi-Fi. However, our TV also didn't work- no connection to local channels or basic cable, let alone the apps like Hulu. At check out we gave them feedback that it had been inconvenient to not access Wi-Fi or any form of TV during our stay. Since their website lists wifi and tv as basic amenities we asked for any form of discount to our bill. She explained that it was Comcast's fault and that wifi is complementary, I guess insinuating that they don't take responsibility if/when not working. My parents were staying down the road at Beachcomber and they had great access to Wi-Fi, no issues with television, fire pits and cheaper rates. Also, customer service down there was quite friendly. The lodge is in a great location. Great room, older, room is big. Bed was not all that comfy. You can walk to the ocean bluffs and watch the sunset. Rooms have a nice patio or balcony to sit on and view the ocean from afar. Cons: Towels are rough. No microwave. Needed extra set of towels. No HBO. Some channels are fuzzy. No shelving in bathroom. We booked a very nice room well in advance. Upon calling to confirm the reservation, they told us they don't allow children, which was not listed on Orbitz (where we booked). They did not offer to help us in any way, shape, or form. We thought it would be logical to offer an upgrade to someone else, and downgrade us (we would still pay the original price) in order to still stay here. Nope. We ended up having to book another place last minute, which was very expensive for the crappy place we stayed. Overall not impressed with the total lack of customer service. read more

We were looking forward to staying here after reading all the great reviews. We arrived after dark. Upon opening the door we were hit with a very strong musty/moldy odor! The sink area with the coffee maker was CRAWLING WITH ANTS! They were all over the coffee maker, the sugar and creamer, the coffee cups, the sink, the mirror, the walls, etc. We went to the office and were told they could not move us, as they didn't have another room similar to ours. (Which by the way, they had put us in a handicapped room, which we did not request.) So they gave us a bottle of ant spray and a $25 refund. We would much rather have PAID an extra $25 to be in a bug-free room! We saturated the coffeemaker, cups, sink, sugar, creamer, mirror, etc. with bug spray, which made our room reek, then went out to dinner. When we came back, the infestation had moved into our closet. We sprayed again and had to suffer the strong smell, so we all went to bed hoping to get a good night's rest. The beds are hard, they feel like stiff styrofoam. And THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN! We were woken up all night long by the footsteps, etc. upstairs, and then again very early in the morning by children running and yelling, and maids talking loudly etc., and people on the walkway behind the hotel. The traffic noise from the highway is very loud. Very poor insulation in these rooms! You cannot leave your shades open to enjoy the (very distant) ocean view while lying in your bed if you are on the first floor, as there is a constant stream of people walking by, looking in. No privacy. You cannot hear the waves crashing, as the ocean is quite far off - past the road/walkway, past the bluff - at least the distance of a football field away. The ancient heater under the refrigerator is outrageously loud, intense rumbling and whistling noises. As others have said, the ugly red carpets are old and stained. We had only one night to spend in Fort Bragg, and we were so disappointed in our choice of hotel. Not recommended. read more

I have been staying at this hotel for the past 2 1/2 years as I am there for work every 4-5 weeks. I like it because of the view, and cleanliness. Decor is a lot odd.. but unique. I have asked for a an hour later check out .. from 11 am to noon .. twice and both times denied. Not only denied.. but admitted that my loyalty meant nothing. And that hurt. I am a loyal person and that should mean something in business these days. I will most likely be staying next door from now on, they lost my respect and business. If you want to wake up to a spectacular view of the Pacific in a 1970's-era retro-pink room with outdated floral detail and faux-columns, then you should seriously consider the Ocean View Lodge for a weekend. It's spacious, and the jacuzzi is decent-size, though make sure you diet beforehand if you plan to fit two comfortably in there as the water jets give you an unexpected colonic. You also get a sealed fireplace with a switch, cable TV with everything but the pay channels, a little fridge with no goodie basket (dammit), and a balcony with a 180-degree view. That is unconditionally gorgeous unless the overweight woman on the next balcony is clipping her toenails at the same time. And it isn't bad price-wise...$175 during the winter season. There's a trail behind the lodge where you can enjoy the full panorama of the rugged coastline. Check-in and check-out times are pretty standard - in after 3PM, out by 11AM. Josie at the front desk is quite nice and efficient, giving you totally unmemorable instructions on how to use the thermostat in the room and then a complete rundown on dining options in town. It's only about five minutes to the downtown area and probably another twenty or so to Mendocino. I say surrender to the pink and treat yourself to a soak in the tub. read more

This hotel was absolutely perfect! Because of Covid, understandably the breakfast is not served in the mornings & the house keepers only come In when requested, but everything else was pretty great. I reserved the 2 queen room. The back door opened up to the patio & ocean views, it was nice to keep propped open to listen to the sound of the waves, birds, ocean, etc. The room itself was also super spacious! It was perfect distance to the beach (walking distance). Food was within 3-5m. And tourist attractions were also just a short drive down the road. A few times/days leading up to our check in date, I called the hotel and spoke to Magda(?) and asked her about restrictions, policies, and changes happening in the area due to Covid. She was incredibly helpful & gave me a better understanding of the area before traveling. She's a wonderful receptionist & made booking incredibly easy. We stayed at the Ocean View Lodge 3 days/2 nights this week. I have very mixed feelings. I did my "due diligence" research to find a nice place for our anniversary and at first blush, was satisfied. However, the more we looked around the room, the less appealing. It's old, the bathroom is WELL used, the thermostat is on the floor under the refrigerator, which is right next to the bed (hummed all night), the room safe was to be accessed by a key, no key and the safe is low, almost on the ground. The room did have a beautiful ocean view and nice patio and the bed was comfortable. Great, convenient walking path along the ocean. The reason for my 2 stars, is a total invasion of our privacy. When we left for a day of fun we carefully placed the "do not disturb" tag on the door. When we returned at the end of the day, someone had allowed movers into our room and swapped out some of the furniture. Our belongings were in the room, it was clear the room was occupied. When we questioned 3 different staff members about it, their responses were "well yeah, but we needed to move furniture; oh, it was a mess around here and 'they' didn't know what they were doing; well the manager is a 21 year old kid and he doesn't know what he's doing; and [the best response] it was the housekeepers." (Really the housekeepers went into our room and swapped our heavy furniture and left the used towels???( These responses were disturbing. There was no concern that strangers (people other than hotel staff) were in our room. Who was with them? Who authorized them? Apparently no one. The check out clerk (manager?) thought the whole incident was funny. Below are before and after pictures. (1) Beautiful ocean view, (2) ocean view blocked by heavy, garish, furniture. In all fairness, none of our belongings were taken, my anger is from the invasion. We loved our previous trip to Fort Bragg that we decided to visit again. We had originally wanted to stay at Surf & Sand Lodge, as we did previously, but they were fully booked. I was about to plan a trip someplace else but then I found Ocean View Lodge, which was directly next door to Surf & Sand Lodge and reasonably priced. Having to drive to Fort Bragg after work, we checked in a little late and my first impression of the woman at the front desk was that while she wasn't necessarily rude, she was not warm and welcoming like those working at other hotels. It didn't bother us much considering that we wanted to get into the room as soon as possible after such a long drive (and the dreaded Highway 20). We stayed in one of the downstairs King room and I was quite impressed with the sheer size of the room. I liked that there was a separate room with a TV, albeit an old one, and a sink that is not part of the bathroom. I wasn't loving the old carpet but it was clean. We had assumed that we were given an accessible (handicap) room because both the sinks were extremely low but then realized the bathroom had a full tub, a handrail was missing from the toilet, and there were steps inside the room. The photos here seem to confirm the low sinks in other rooms, as well. Whether you are staying at Beachcomber Motel, Surf & Sand Lodge, or Ocean View Lodge, the view from this part of Fort Bragg is SPECTACULAR. To wake up to this type of view is priceless and it never gets old. We loved that Ocean View Lodge had a huge window where we could fully soak in the view with the blinds rolled all the way up. The bed was comfortable and we had absolutely no problem getting good sleep as we couldn't hear the neighbors whatsoever. We did, however, dislike how the heater was extremely loud and weak. It did the job to keep us warm but I couldn't imagine staying here if the weather was absolutely freezing. The Wi-Fi was also slow and it was kind of strange how they blocked access to websites other than Google, Facebook, and YouTube. The worst part about our stay was their breakfast. I mean, who eats sweet pastries in the morning? If you're a diabetic, you're better off skipping their breakfast because everything was just wayyyy too sweet. Other than the Wi-Fi and the breakfast, everything else was great and would definitely stay here again. read more

We stayed at this motel in the past and were happy, but something changed. The WiFi didn't work. And on the day of checkout my wife tested positive for Covid so we lost track of time. We were called from the office at 11:10 and told if we stayed past 11:15 we would be charged an extra 100 dollars. So we threw all of our stuff into the hallway to get out of the room by 11:15. Then we took about 15 minutes to get our stuff down and packed in the car. No one was waiting to clean the room. As a result they charged us the extra 100 dollars and would not listen to reason.
