The customer service here is incredible. I had to reschedule so many times and they were BEYOND accommodating. The rooms are beautifully clean and the location is unparalleled. They have their own private path to the beach and the private decks (and excellent vacation packages) are to die for! What hotel room gives you a private deck with two chairs, doesn't care if you smoke outside your room, includes a bottle of wine and tickets to the Mendo gardens? (if you get the right package, that is!) I will be returning to Cleone Gardens Inn time and time again. This is a really excellent spot to take a sweetheart. The beds are comfortable and extremely clean and I don't understand why people think the walls are thin, I didn't hear a thing during my stay and I definitely had neighbors. Don't let the low reviews turn you away! The value you get out of the location, amenities and packages is more than worth what you get in the additional pricing compared to the cheaper rooms in the area. If you're thinking about spending a little more for a much better time, definitely choose the Cleone Gardens inn! read more

I just got back from a much needed vacation and this place was wonderful. The renovations must be complete because everything was clean and perfect. It's a bit rustic with beautiful wood decks and with dark, short-fiber carpets; and a bit flowery with bead spreads and borders, but overall it works. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. My room had a coffee maker, fridge, microwave, and plenty of extra towels and blankets. The inn keepers were friendly and were easily accessible by phone. All of my questions were quickly answered. They had a lot of great ideas for dinner and things to see while there. The main reason I chose this place is because it is TRULY dog-friendly. Not just semi-dog-friendly... the real dog-friendly where they let the dogs up on the bed and the couch and give you bowls and towels and cookies for your dogs. The dog-friendly where they greet your dog before they greet you . . . the kind of place that makes me feel at home because that is how my own home truly is. I am definitely planning on staying here again. The rates were reasonable, the staff friendly, and the dogs had a blast... what's not to love? read more

This motel is actually in Cleone, which is about a 5 minute drive from Fort Bragg. It's a very nice location if you don't want to be in the middle of all the tourism of FB. It's set in a quiet garden landscape. When we visited in July of '06 it was in the process of being renovated. It's not a B&B, but a small motel. There are about 8 rooms, each with its own bathroom and patio/deck. Some rooms have fireplaces. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. They recommended several local places to eat and were flexible with our schedule. They gave us a AAA discount and didn't mind that we wanted to stay longer than expected. It's a good thing they were renovating, because the place could really use it! The rooms are quite charming, but the bathrooms are pretty small. The wooden decks need to be re-done- I'm not sure what it entails, but the wood is very old and appears not to have been sealed. There is a community hot tub, which is nice, but be sure to bring your own beach towel, since you only get 2 for the bathroom. Also, they did not have internet access or even a phone. There was basic cable in each room, but wireless would have been nice too. Would I go back? Yes, especially now that the renovations must be done. I'd go back for the price, scenery, tranquility, and service. read more

When you first pull up, don't freak out. And don't worry when you walk into the office either. You won't have any idea what a gem this place is until you walk around back and see the gardens. We stayed in #9, or the Blue Jay and loved it. The bed was comfortable and cute, and the garden view was spectacular. Yes- the bathroom was in need of repairs and the hot water didn't last very long, but overall I felt that the $99 per night went very far. Our room had a deck which was fabulous when the sun hit in the afternoon- the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner. We brought our mini dachshund and she was a guest of honor. They provided her with her own food and water dishes, sheet on the bed and a delicious treat. The spa was nice as well but a little bit creepy at night since it was not well lit. The Inn was conveniently located just north of Fort Bragg, away from the crowds but near enough for us to easily visit. We are planning to return in the future! read more

I love this place. But that is just me. Depending on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a motel like place to spend a night, this place is not really for you. The setting the quiet and relaxing. You can take strolls in the garden. It is also pet friendly so a great place for family travel with pets. If you are looking for a place for the whole family to relax for a few days, this is quite the place to stay. It is family run so you don't get the commercial feeling of chain hotel. Some of the suite is very big, accommodated with small kitchen and dining table. It's almost like a small apartment. I think I would like to come back in the future and spend more time here as a personal retreat. read more

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights with our two Shih tzu's....when we arrived to check in there was an envelope on the office door in our name with a key to our door. The property is lush and kept very pristine with unique trails ....and a beautiful hot tub. Even with that...the main show was the room....dog friendly all the way.....and even so...CLEAN and FRESH....you feel as if no one has stayed there before you....the staff was nice and aware...but also kept a cool distance.....Thumbs up! Enjoy your stay! read more

This place is just ok. I wanted to be close to the quiet and horseback riding, and away from the hussle and bussle of the town and tourist. Everything is pretty much close enough where you don't have to worry too much about being too far. This place has a rustic charm. For the price I might have been expecting more than just quiet. It was a bit far from the beach and not easy to find the 'trail' that lead to the beach from the hotel. We really wanted to use the fireplace but after about 10 minutes, the room was full of smoke even though the flue was open and the doors were closed. Even in the morning, smoke started filling the room. So that was a bummer. Shower was a bit cramped but the place was clean and the breakfast nook was nice (though we didn't use it). It is a quaint little place with charm. It's next door to the state park and horseback riding.. and not far from the purple rose (a don't miss place, not open Sun-Mon). I might try the beachcomber again just because its right on the beach. The drive to fort bragg is not bad at all but I think being closer to the beach would have been nicer. It's a good quiet place to be though and very dog friendly (the area in general seems to be dog friendly. If you go, the renovated rooms might be nicer but I'm not sure. read more

My husband and I stayed here for this year's long Memorial Day weekend. We started looking into places last minute and this was one of the only places with vacancy. The price was cheap, but you get what you pay for. When making the reservation, the person that I spoke to said the place was "rustic but clean." So we weren't expecting a lot from this bed and breakfast (that doesn't serve breakfast). Just like the previous poster said you get your own bathroom and patio, and your door opens up to the garden. Another benefit is that they allow dogs. The staff was nice and helpful. We got in very late the first night, after the office had closed, and they left us a note and left our key under the mat. They also had a bottle of wine waiting in the room for us. The wine was nasty, we looked online and it is $2 a bottle, but the thought was nice. And they also left Molly a little biscuit and blank for her to sleep on. But this place is more rustic than clean. We had a few bugs in the room and there was a hole at the bottom of our front door. The bathroom didn't looked like it had been cleaned in years and the drain in the tub was clogged, so if you took longer than 5 minutes in the shower you were standing in some pretty high water. The bed was comfy enough, but the sheets and comforter were old and smelled kinda moldy. And as of May 30, 2008 it didn't look like any of the renovations had been finished or even started. read more

If you like to hear everything your neighbors are saying and doing this is the place for you. The attractively remodeled rooms have paper thin walls. The do provide ear plugs though. One side of our sheets smelled strongly of perfume. Maybe they forgot to wash the sheets from the previous guest. The gardens - open grass area is very nice but they did not bother to fill the bird feeders. Great potential but .. We won't be back read more

$135/night Desk is Unstaffed from 6pm-8am--the only hours one might expect to need them. Paper thin walls Fireplace doesn't work Hot tub isn't hot Grandma bedcovers were cute. The place itself is cute and the above problems are solvable. Hope they figure it out. read more

Found this place on line, booked via telephone. You choose your room from the photos at their website. All are unique and different prices. They were helpful with suggestions to suite our needs. What we liked was that they are in a country setting and very relaxed. We needed a quiet get away and found it here. Beautiful gardens and 10 min. walk to the beach. Our room was very clean, homey, and comfortable. It's an older place, not fancy but well kept. Not the typical thin walled motel that you find in town. They are right on hwy. 1, however there was minimal traffic noise in the evening. They no longer serve a breakfast, which we understand and have our favorite spots up town anyway. We will bring our dog next time as they are extremely dog friendly and only require a single flat fee. Great spa area, which we did not use but checked it out for cleanliness, and it was very nice and smelled lovely! Our room came with huge spa towels too. All in all, we enjoyed our visit. Price was very reasonable and included lots of HBO and Wi-Fi too. We look forward to another visit. read more

This is the place I send family and friends to when they come visit, and the place I stay if I need a little local escape. Rooms are clean, well stocked, and some even have kitchens and living room space for larger groups or longer stays. The hot tub is always hot and relaxing, in a beautiful location on the back deck overlooking the meadows. Beautiful meadows and gardens surround the inn, and it's just a short walk to the ocean and the haul road. When they say pet-friendly, they mean it! They welcome dogs and even have water and food bowls and a treat for them in each room - so cute. It is family owned, and the owners are friendly and accommodating. The recent renovations are complete - the place looks great! I have made many wonderful memories at Cleone Gardens Inn and hope to make many more! The location is quiet for being right off Highway 1, and being in Cleone makes it a bit removed from the busy tourist hustle in Fort Bragg. It's also super close to Mackerricher state park, a quick walk to Cleone grocery, and the setting is well kept and beautiful. I've never noticed being able to hear other guests through the walls, but that's fairly common for hotels and inns, so complete silence is not really something I ever expect. It's certainly a LOT quieter than any city! If you prefer quiet, ask for a room on the meadow side or on the far ends of the buildings. The peaceful garden setting allows you to fall asleep to the sounds of nature and you can hear the ocean much of the time as well. Beautiful location, comfy & cozy, clean and well kept, pet friendly, and all around just an excellent place to stay. Highly recommended! read more

Everything started out well: nice reception, plenty of parking, big bed, clean room and quiet. The spa was OK - had to wrestle the top on and off and some of the jets were cold. The biggest problem was in the morning when we found no hot water in the shower or sink. We tried from 8 AM to 10 AM. We were aware there would be no one in reception until 11 AM but we were surprised that they also refused to answer the phone until 11 AM. They also have not responded to an email left on their website. If you decide to give them a try, check for hot water and find out who to contact in case of a problem. Things you shouldn't have to do in a $140 room. Especially when there is a reliable Best Western nearby. read more

We love this place and have been going here for years, but... This review would have been a 5 start review if not for the fact that we were moved to a new room on the 4th night of our stay. It was just like the old room except for the bed, which had a large depression in the right side, as if a wrecking ball had been left on the mattress for a few years. It was so uncomfortable! My back hurt, I kept waking up trying to get comfortable, and was crabby the next day from lack of sleep. There is no way the owners could not have known about this. read more

This place is awesome! It had just gone thought a renovation, so everything was brand new. Its in a very peaceful area and very close to the beach. They don't allow kids, which is great if you don't like hearing kids running around and peeing in the spa! Although they don't allow kids, they do allow all breeds of dogs! Being dog owners, this was awesome! There's a huge back grassy area with trails that cut through woodsy areas on both sides. Its very nice for morning, or evening walks. If you're looking for a very clean, peaceful place to stay that's basically brand new, I'd highly recommend staying here. The office staff are very helpful at recommending things to do too! Check out the botanical gardens down the road! read more

Perfect place to rest in nature. The price is reasonable, the location is fabulous and the gardens are luxurious.

Just called to reverse a room for this weekend for me and my family and they told me they don't except children under 18 years old! Then when I asked "why" they rudely told me it was their company policy. Whoever I spoke to was very rude and the fact they have a policy in place like that makes me glad I didn't book with them. Very unprofessional and a horrible policy. My children aren't pets they are humans too. read more

I stayed here last weekend and had a great experience. The room was very nice and had an adorable little breakfast nook. The biggest factor for me was that they are pet friendly! There is a pet fee but it was really worth it to stay in such a nice place with my two dogs. They were even nice enough to leave little dog bowls and treats. Really a nice place to stay. read more

You will not be disappointed in this incredibly sweet, charming inn. The innkeepers go out of their way to make your visit special. You won't find a place more friendly to your pets - they even provide bowls and pet towels! You can hear the crashing ocean outside of your room and it feels away from everything, but it is just a short drive into town. The grounds are beautiful and lush and you can't beat the hot tub for relaxation :) read more

I simply adore this place! Never been to a more dog friendly inn. They have all the supplies you may have forgotten for your pup - bowls, leashes, poop bags. The rooms are charming. So peaceful! read more

Cute, romantic cottage. A bit pricy at $200 a night but summer rates for motels along the coast are around this price. We rented room 4. Pros: separate bedroom, kitchenette with everything you need to prepare a meal except the food. Kitchen table and another dining area off the living room, fireplace, couches are foutons, so you can sleep at least 3 more people, comfy bed and bedding. Has wi-do, dog friendly, nice people. Cons: could use some updating, tv is old but has a lot of channels, microwave appears to be from the 70's, bathroom doesn't have a lot of space for toiletries. read more

Your home away from home. We stayed in one of the larger rooms. The ultimate motel. But it could be your base for a longer stay. Clean, comfortable, quiet, fine detail. A short drive north of Fort Bragg in Cleone, CA. read more

To everyone who asked how I enjoyed my stay at the Cleone Gardens Inn--I say "I LOVED it, you must go!" My room was very, very cozy. The bed was so comfortable, the sheets and pillows were soft and just like something you'd have at home (none of the creepy, white, sterile linens), and it was quiet. There was a tiny window-seat around a table and a beautiful bay window, which I enjoyed spending my mornings at. My room was in the back of the inn, it faced the backyard. --Which was stunning. Lush and lovely, perfectly peaceful, I felt as though I'd fallen into an enchanted wonderland. The staff was very, very friendly, always had a cheery greeting. If you'd like to rest well, and be taken care of perfectly, stay at the Cleone Garden Inn! read more

Was able to get a 2 night reservation, but when we got there we wanted to add another night. Stayed in the Navarro kitchen suite with a fireplace and king size bed. Beautiful decor. The room passed my wife's cleanliness inspection as well! What we liked is that it is not only beautiful, it's very well kept. We had no trouble locating the path to the beach, which was an enchanting little forest in itself. There is much attention paid to comfort details. We found our stay to be very relaxing and the outdoor spa was open all night for us. Great value for the $. No reason to stay in Fort Bragg again. read more

We stayed in the Noyo Suite which was delightful. It had a fireplace and a kitchen. It was located on the end of the building, so was very quiet. The grounds are beautiful and it is a short walk to the beach. I love this Inn and can't wait to return. read more

This inn is really very nice. The rooms are comfortable and clean. I was psyched that they are pet friendly...well, mostly. The room that was left the night we checked in was not pet friendly, however, my dog is a service dog, so due to the ADA Act, my dog is technically allowed and the pet fee should not be charged. The very nice lady at the office needed to check with the office about this as she was not aware of this law. When she called the owner, I had the misfortune of being able to hear her on the other end. She verified that, yes, they could not charge the pet fee, and that this issue was a "rip off" and that she would share more information with her the next day. This, unfortunately, left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth regarding this inn. The owner really needs to brush up on tact as well as the American with Disabilities Act. Training my dog for hospice care as a service dog is not what I would call a "rip off." Without that experience, I would have given this motel 4 stars due to the comfort and proximity to the beach. read more

Beautiful garden setting about 3/4 mile from the beach at Mackerricher. Wonderful for dogs, really relaxing, recently remodeled, affordable and clean. Only downside is the wall are really thin so you can hear neighbors complete conversations. read more

We reserved a 3 night stay at this beautiful inn that is about 2 miles n. of the town of Fort Bragg. We not only selected this property because of their wonderful reviews, (on that other website), but also for the location, very near the MacKerricher State Park. After a long business trip we were looking forward to a quiet relaxing stay. This inn did not disappoint! Our room was beautiful and exceptionally clean, considering this was a pet friendly room. You would never know it! Many added touches to make us feel at home. Free wi-fi was appreciated. The bed was inviting and comfortable with linens that my wife approved of. We were happy to say that we got a good night's sleep even though the building is very near hwy. 1. The highlight of our stay was seeing deer and a small wild fox in their beautiful meadow. Such a charming country setting and well maintained. The staff was cheerful and exceptionally helpful, recommending local favorites. We also noted that they maintain a 'eco-friendly' attitude, supplying a recycle bin on our patio and recyclable shampoo, conditioner containers, and in room suggestions. Very satisfied and definitely recommended. read more

As a seasoned international traveler, I had the worst travel experience in Fort Ross at The Cleone Gardens Inn. The front staff and owner were rude, unaccommodating and discriminatory. I went with my friend who is 5'2" and has hip and knee replacements. We booked on line and the room looked wonderful. Once we arrived, we noticed that the beds were exceptionally high and my friend could not get on the bed. We notified the front staff and asked for a room change and she told us that all rooms had beds that were 3 mattress high and that she had received prior complaints . When we asked her to remove one of the mattresses she said there was no place to store it. She told us to drive 3 miles to the town of Fort Ross and find the hardware store and buy a foot stool. We were shocked at her lack of professionalism and lack of compassion for our situation. We told her we could not stay and to notify the owner that we would didn't expect to be charged. The next morning I called the owner from the new motel and she gave me a thorough tongue lashing. She told me that she had to charge me since we didn't mention a "disability' when we booked the room. Her attitude was exceptionally rude and unprofessional. I had paid for one night on my credit card and my friend had paid for one night on her debt card. When my friend spoke to the owner, who was not present upon our check in, the owner told her she had to pay for the room and that she couldn't get on the bed because she was fat! I called my credit card company and am disputing the charge, my friend did the same with her debt card. Please, never give Cleone Gardens Inn any business. read more
