This is the best lake, it's beautiful clean and very well maintained. You can swim camp paddleboard, as well as rent a pontoon boat. The owners are wonderful. I highly recommend. read more

We went here for the first time the week of July 4th. It's really a cool resort and we are looking forward to going again this Summer. Because it is no longer open to the general public you must know one of the members to get a guest pass. The lake is beautiful. read more

You need to be a seasonal renter or a guest of one to stay now. The management is not "tight". They just got sick of drunken parties and people who thought it was okay to trash the place (gum in the shower heads). It's much quieter but I do feel sorry for those who just want to have some nice family camping fun. The cabins are not monthly rentals (not sure where that information came from- they aren't even open in the winter). Vacationers can rent one for a week and the only laundry visible is beach towels and bathing suits. The only person who lives at the resort is the caretaker. The lodge burned down in 1974. It was not rebuilt because in 1875 when it was first built, laws were much more lenient about building wastewater producing facilities right on the edge of a lake. The management could not rebuild it. The resort is still packed on weekend days with people who pay for a day on the beach. Overall nice place. No, I don't work here, just have enjoyed it for many years. read more

Please don't get me wrong, the lake is beautiful and the campground is beautiful, but the experience has changed. As a former permanent I can say that management is having a huge factor on the experience. John in particular. He is toxic. From his domestic disputes with his family to his verbal abuse to the guests. I have witnessed him screaming and cursing in the face of guests. I have witnessed him screaming and cursing from across the lake, while he is at his residence. On top of that, he picks and chooses whom he wants to enforce the rules too. For instance, golf cart drivers are suppose to be of age and have a drivers license, yet he watches kids, that he knows, drive past, while screaming at others for the same infraction. He has told permanents to obey certain rules while blatantly allowing cabin guests to disobey the same rule. It has made for a very toxic environment, one where we feel that we have to walk on eggshells at the place we use to call "Our Happy Place". Have we written to the owners, you ask? No, I personally, have not. In fear that it will only create a target on our backs. I personally know people who have written to them and the owners response was "We back our management.". This, too, creates a toxic environment. All in all, we Are sad to leave this beautiful place, but could not stand being in that toxic environment any more. read more

I have been coming here to LeTrianon since I was a kid 50 years ago. Back in the old days there was a big lodge building here, a lively bar/grill, dances at night on the weekends with live bands and TONS of panfish (mostly Bluegill) that were easy to catch. Back in the day outboard motors were banned so the lake was truly PRISITINE, clear clean water with not a trace of petrol. The resort area and beach is still there, but the lodge burned down years ago and has been replaced by a trailer selling 7-11 type stuff and some fishing/swimming gear. Outboards are allowed now so there is a very slight oil sheen on some parts of the lake which you can taste if you swim. The lake is spring fed with very clean water and isnt green and souply like Clear Lake. The temp is just a couple of degrees below an ideal swimming temp, but on a hot summer day it is a great way to cool off. There is a burger grill lakeside near the sand beach. Prices are OK and the food is OK. Ukiah has some really great places to eat but it is about a twenty five minute drive. The ecology of the lake has changed. There arent nearly as many Bluegill around, but there are planted rainbow trout and some decent sized bass. Squawfish roam around in good numbers but they are considered a trash fish. Old timers swear the lake is many hundreds of feet deep and is connected by a natural tunnel to some distant lake or spring. I think that is just a tall tale, but I have never found a depth chart of the lake. The owners have steadily jacked up prices and eliminated any reasonably priced way to stay or play here. Camping by the night was eliminated a few years ago and the day use fee can top $50 a car (adults are now $10 each) with no weekly rates offered. I still go back for nostalgic reasons, but there are better values elswhere. The lake is very nice even though it has a highway runing right next to it. it isnt a stuck up high end resort, lots of older cars in the parking areas. You can just bask in the sun, swim in the lake or fish. There are no organized activities of any kind. There is a very exciting rope swing tied to a tree overhanging the lake south of the resort a few hundred yards. The swing is accessible from the highway. For those brave enough to use it, it is a GREAT ride. You can drop from about 35 feet at the upper limit of the arc and go straight down in to the lake. Fishing is spotty. I can usually get a couple of stocked rainbow trout in the 10-13 inch range by trolling a spinner from a paddled rubber raft. I release them. You will see big bass jump sometimes, but I have never seen big bass caught here. Small dumb bass do get caught but the big ones don't. I used to catch zillions of Bluegill by rowing or hiking to any cove on the shady west side and fishing with worms. Now those coves are barren of fish. I used a snorkel and mask and didnt see much of anything underwater except for dead tree trunks and a few beer cans and soda bottles. This area has a lot of rattlesnakes (REALLY) so be very careful walking off the main areas. The biggest rattler I have ever seen was killed here right along the path that goes from the West side of the lake along the shore. You wouldnt believe me if I told you how big it was and yes, I DO know the difference between rattlers, bull snakes and gopher snakes. The primitive funky cabins are pricey considering what they offer, but they are about your best bet for a semi-affordable LeTrianon Blue Lakes experience. Affordable is a relative term: $95 a night, SEVEN night minimum most summer months. Those on a very limited budget could actually park in public areas south of the resort and swim and fish on the accessible shoreline. The sand beach at LeTrainon is a lot nicer though. I wish the owners would do a $20 per car day fee and resume nightly camping. Now you have to buy a season pass for really big bucks ($3000-$4500!!!) if you wish to camp or RV here. You gotta hand it to the owners. They must have MBAs or maybe PhDs in economics. They have really calulated price elasticity for their market and product and found that poorer people can be squeezed a lot harder than any prior owners thought. I'd give the lake a 5 star and the greedy owners a 0 star. It averages out to 2 plus stars which is what I am posting. read more

We spent an idyllic sunny sunday afternoon here like we've done many times before. Le Trianon has a nice sandy beach to set your blanket on. The water gets deep pretty close to shore so you have to watch the Kids very close. (You should be doing that anyway, right?) I spent a really great afternoon here on the deck listening to the sound of children playing in the water and watching the fish swim by. The day use fee is $6 for adults and $4 for kids. read more

As a young teenager in the late 60's, this was the best place to go to when wanting to get out of San Jose. The drive was long, but so worth it. We would set up our tents & make great memories over the summer months. Several years back, I wanted to share the fun with my family so we, again, made the long 4+ hour drive only to find it looking like a homeless camp. It was filthy & incredibly disappointing. People were living in the cabins with all their laundry draped everywhere. I asked someone in the office about that & was told they were monthly residents. The old lodge was gone with no plans to replace it. We didn't even go into the water fearing what cooties could be in there. This place was a Hot mess, I hope it's getting better. read more

My husband went here with his family when he was growing up. Now we take our family here. It's our favorite place to vacation. They have been stricter in regards to who they rent cabins to, and for that, I am truly grateful. It's a family resort, and they make sure it stays that way. My family always feels safe here and we love the staff. As our kids get older, it's harder to find places that the whole family enjoys. Le Trianon will always be a place for our family to make memories that will last a lifetime. read more

I absolutely love camping at Le Trianon. I've been going to Le Trianon since I was a little girl, the cabins are perfect, so are the prices. I don't like that now you have to reserve for a week during July and August. It's a great place to relax and spend time with your family. Although many changes have taken place, for instance the stay for a week is required, the curfew, and the awesome music they would play at night where you can get your groove on is no longer. Although things have changed it's still a very nostalgic place to me and a great place for family fun. read more

My Dad used to bring us kids there for a week of camping during the Summer in the '60s. I absolutely loved it! There was a wooden raft that people would float out to and sunbathe. At night, there was a jukebox machine so people could dance or just mingle. Great memories!!! read more

Never mind the crazy kids running loose in golf carts or on party boats on the lake nor the seven foot high redwood fences that enclose everything.. The lake is beautiful and they have hook up for rv's.. Private resort you have to be a guest of a season renter or by becoming a season renter to stay .$$$ .all guest sports are very close to hwy 20..bring your earplugs..very LOUD road noise from semi's and diesel downshifting..Bathrooms are very clean and they have a couple of dumping stations for your trailer/rv..they also allow small yappy dogs that shit everywhere WATCHOUT read more

One of my favorite memories as a child is going camping here with my brother and sister and grandparents! Learning how to fish off the pier dock with my grandpa, catching minnows in the shallow beach area, or even trying to catch craw dads. I remember getting my first bee sting here and grandma covering the ouchie with mud! I remember watching the teenagers play king of the dock and toss of everyone else and my grandma warning that if I wanted to play with the big kids don't come crying if I get tossed in the water too! I remember one year we camped there was a massive down pour on us and our whole camp was soaked and muddy but we stuck it out in the trailer and played cards and board games. So many good memories tied with this place, now it's time to bring my own kids here. Feeling nostalgic. read more

We have been coming here for many years and love this place. We always stay in the cabins and also agree with other reviews that they should bring back the camping. It makes it really hard on the people who don't make much money to afford the cabins. It's ridiculous how they want you to rent these rustic cabins for a min of week. Management needs to bring back the live music they use to have on the weekends. The lake is amazing and if I could afford a place up here I would buy. read more

This is a wonderful place for the entire family. Every year the resort gets better and better. The management has been very responsive to the needs of all of the guests and they have tried very hard to make this our little slice of heaven. The lake is gorgeous. The water is great for swimming in the summer. There is great boating and rope swinging. The fishing is on and off. The trout fishing is slow and yet to fully rebound from the effects of the ban on trout plants because of the red legged tree frog. Everyone is very friendly and there is a strong sense of community. We feel very safe and secure and we know that there are always others keeping an eye on our kids. There are some amenities including a Snack Bar and General Store. There are nice restaurants & large stores about 20 minutes away. In summary, I would highly recommend this place for friends and family. read more

The previous post has some points, but the reason the resort was closed to public camping is because the owners got tired of cleaning up after drunken all-nighter parties and the "seasonals" (people who were already renting by the year) wanted some peace and quiet. The atmosphere now is much more subdued, with fewer people, especially in the evening hours. For those of us coming here since we were kids (50+) years, it is nice, if you can afford it. It is too bad that the public can't camp, and if all were as respectful of the lake as Mark M. appears to be, it wouldn't be a problem. However, it wasn't that way and for those who had to spend the night listening to foul mouth, loud, drunk carousing, it was enough to drive us out (some people did stop coming). IThe management does need to stop the 7-day minimum cabin rentals. What's wrong with spending a nice weekend, or a few days at the lake? The cabins are often not full, which shows that this policy isn't working. They used to be full pretty much all summer. The condition of the lake is the fault of all the resorts on its shores, not just Le Trianon. Still, if you want a low key place to take the kids, or just to unwind, this is it. read more
