Miso soup
Heather D.

Popped in for quick lunch date. Service was friendly and speedy. Restaurant is clean and aesthetically pleasing. Food was good, good selection and tasted very fresh. This will be our go to sushi spot in town.

Soft opening with friendly service. It's in a strip mall near Lowe's. Went with co-workers - menu is huge. Chinese and Japanese fare. I got the sashimi bento box- Weird combo of Chinese- had an egg roll and a pretty sweet ran Rangoon type flat wonton- the brown rice I think it was- was just a big scoop- hmmm. California roll was good and the fish was fresh- would order these again! Miso-- bland

lettuce wraps (spicy chicken)
Paul S.

Soft opening exceeded expectations. The chicken in the lettuce wraps had a nice spice to them, so next time I might try their Chinese menu. I've had bad luck with Chinese dishes at Japanese places before, but their lettuce wraps give me hope. Also tried seaweed salad, miso soup, and sashimi salad--all lower carb alternatives to rice/sushi/ramen. The tonkotsu ramen's broth was flavorful, chashu was tender. Only complaint was that that the boiled egg was plain--it needs to be marinated and softer! It felt like we went to Austin. I liked it better than Kyoto, although I have not tried the sushi or bento boxes yet. So far I would rate it 3 or 4 if they were out in Austin, so giving it 5 for Bastrop.

I love the pink lady roll and the spicy ramen. The place is always clean and the staff are friendly. It is always safe to DoorDash from here too, 10/10 on my orders.

Maki Combo featuring tuna, salmon, and California roll (c) sushi. And an adorable SpongeBob hand drawn.

New to Bastrop as of March 2025 and it is a so Yummy! 5 . Fresh salads and the best hot sour soup I have had in the area. Super good with pork it the soup. Game changer. We all know hot sour can be made and not taste good. Volcanos hot n sour is perfect. They have sushi, sashimi, Ramen, classic Chinese dishes, and bento boxes with generous portions for Texas sized appetites!! Yum! So good your hubby will steal from your plate if your not watching ;) great service and ambiance.

We have eaten at Volcano many times. The staff is always very friendly. They care about your experience. They are very knowledgeable about the food they serve. The sushi is very fresh and the entrees like the Sichuan shrimp and orange chicken are delicious. Super fresh and very tasty. The bento boxes are an amazing deal. If you want some amazing food and incredible staff. Come here.

If you've been to Kyoto Sushi, just on the other side of the freeway, then you already know exactly what this restaurant is about. It's basically the same restaurant with the same owners not more than a half mile from the Kyoto location. So I'm not sure what Volcano adds to our fair town. But you can enjoy a meal here. It bills itself as a Japanese restaurant, "Volcano Sushi and Ramen." But that's not the whole story. Read on. Like Kyoto, their sushi is greatly good. Whether you're into Americanized sushi rolls or you're into nigiri sushi, sashimi or chirachi, you'll be happy. Their ramen is not as good as their sushi. I've had better ramen in an airport. But unless you've been spoiled, like I have, on great ramen (I worked within walking distance of a Michelin-starred ramen shop), it's enjoyable. Their bone broth should be richer, and their eggs should be softer and more marinated, but I like their char shu. For Bastrop County, it's good ramen. And certainly, their ramen is as good as you'll ever find in any restaurant that also serves Chinese food. And there's the kicker. They opened two sushi and ramen restaurants in Bastrop, but they're still not confident that Bastrop is ready for a Japanese restaurant, so they a large section of Chinese food to the menu. To be clear... it's not fusion. They don't fuse together elements of Chinese and Japanese food together in the same dish. But they're happy to plate them side-by-side. If you're looking for a Chinese dinner of Szechuan or Hunan chicken with fried rice, an egg roll, and a couple of crab rangoons, but you want it plated in a bento box alongside a California roll, this is your place. They'll even throw in a miso soup and a ginger dressing salad and call it a "Japanese Bento" lol. I mean, it's good. But just know in advance what you're getting into. It's a restaurant that serves Japanese-American food (most of their sushi rolls contain Philadelphia cream cheese or avacado) served side by side with Chinese-American food (such as a Jack in the Box style egg roll dipped in sweat and sour sauce). That maybe that's what Bastrop wants. Is it tastey? Yes. Yes, it is. Will you like it? That all depends on what you're comparing it to. For those of us who are transplants from places with world-class Asian food (like California), it's an overly-Americanized nod to better things. But even for me, now that I know what to expect, I can have a nice dinner here. If I really want authentic Szechuan or a great bowl of Tankatsu ramen I'll head to Austin. But for other nights, this isn't a bad option. Although they messed up on the white they served with my bento (it was dry and under-seasoned, which should not happen in a Japanese restaurant), there were some standout dishes. I was extremely impressed with their cucumber salad. It was amazing, actually. And the salad they serve with their bento featured the most perfect iceberg with a great ginger dressing. Their sashimi was nice, too. And the California roll that came with the bento was absolutely perfect. The decorations in the restaurant are nice, but not remotely Asian. Though they do have what looks like a sushi counter where a few people can be seated. The restaurant is lacking any tables for two. So, a couple has to be seated at a four top. This causes some people to have to wait for a table that otherwise wouldn't have waited. The service we received was very good. We loved our waitress, though it was clear that she was taking care of too many tables. She didn't have much time to check on us. But she is talented and personable and did a great job. We spent $64 for the two of us without ordering any alcohol. But the menu has food in a wide variety of price ranges. And we did add a dessert - mochi ice cream, which they quarter, fill with whipped cream and drizzle with chocolate syrup. And that dessert pretty much sums up the review: As Americanized as possible, but still very tastey.

New Bastrop Sushi, Ramen, and plate dishes. Yumm! Service was delightfully attentive, THANK YOU! Spicy Ramen did not disappoint! Noodles just the right amount of chewy; THREE slices of smoky Chasu pork; earthy mushrooms--loved it! "Jalapeno Poppers" were the size of chicken legs--4 of them for $7.95-stuffed full of crab and cheese. Hubby said the seaweed salad was the best he's had outside of San Francisco- fresh and the perfect tang of ginger. We had a couple of pretty standard rolls on the lunch specials menu. Nothing outstanding there, but we're looking forward to trying the Specialty Rolls next time!

The food was taste less.Panda Express food would be ten times better than volcanos. The service was good enough. The interior was OK, but it didn't have much character.

Black Dragon roll

Soft opening with friendly, attentive service. We started with the spicy edamame and the Yellowtail Jalapeño appetizer. The edamame was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of heat, while the Yellowtail Jalapeño was fresh and flavorful, and a delightful start to the meal. For the main courses, we ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen, yellowtail sushi, a Black Dragon Roll, and the Crunchy Dragon Roll. Each dish was beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and packed with flavor. For dessert, we shared Mochi Ice Cream and Fried Cheesecake. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu. Volcano Sushi & Ramen is a fantastic addition to Bastrop, and I highly recommend checking it out!

From the very first sip of that rich, creamy broth, I knew this place was something special. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the pork was tender and flavorful, and every bite felt like comfort in a bowl. Honestly, it's the best ramen I've ever had--and it's not even close. What really sets this place apart is the customer service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and truly make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The vibe is awesome--lively, clean, and the kind of place you want to sit, relax, and enjoy every minute of your meal. And whatever you do, don't pass up the Spicy Wings. They are sweet, spicy, and perfectly crispy--cooked just right with that satisfying crunch in every bite. Absolutely delicious and the perfect complement to an already amazing meal. Top-notch service, incredible food, and an unbeatable atmosphere--this place is a must-visit.

My first time wasn't too memorable and the second time I got the ultra spicy veggie ramen and it was so spicy I cried (which is good haha i have very high spice tolerance so I'm glad I found a spot that can do truly spicy). This time, I got the deluxe Chicken Paitan DX Ramen (the one that comes with the chicken leg). Chicken Paitan DX Ramen: A sweet soy glazed chicken leg is served on a hot sizzling plate with a small bed of bean sprouts marinating in the sauce. The sauce is a sticky, sweet soy sauce that is so delicious. The chicken leg itself is tender, juicy, and has a great skin texture. The skin soaks up the sauce so well and even has some nice charred bits that add to the flavor and complexity of the dish. The ramen itself was great too. A creamy rich chicken broth. I got the spicy level, so one level under the top spice level and it was perfect. Not unbearably spicy, but had a really nice underlying kick. The noodles are a thin yet snappy noodle so it made it easy to eat. I love the corn and mushroom spirals too! Overall, if you come based on this review, make sure to get the chicken paitan dx ramen. There are only 15 served in a day but ask them if they have it because I was able to get one on a Monday night at around 8PM! It's a nice space, good for a date or even a casual hangout. They have tables to accomodate parties of 1, 2, 4, and possibly 6.

Ramen512 is by far the best spot for traditional and authentic Japanese ramen in the north Austin…read morearea! Everything they serve is made from scratch including their noodles and broth but the pricing is incredibly reasonable. Their customer service is top-notch which is just the icing on the cake! FAST FACTS: * Parking - located in a shopping center with a large parking lot * Reservations - no but you put your name into a tablet when you arrive to join the queue if there's a wait * Online ordering - available for pickup on their website * Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays * Weekly specials available until sold out (check their Instagram or Facebook) SERVICE - We arrived at 6:35 pm on a Sunday and were 4th in line after joining the queue through the tablet. Our table was ready at 7:00 pm and one of the workers kept us updated about the status of our table several times while we waited. Once seated, there is a QR code on the table to scan and place your order. Our server brought water to the table right away and checked on us throughout the meal to make sure we had what we needed. All of our food was prepared and delivered to the table about 10 minutes after ordering. I was incredibly impressed by the customer service! PRICING - The total was $67.65 after tax ($5.15) but before tip for a chicken karaage ($8), signature shoyu ($17) with extra spinach ($1.50) and extra kikurage mushrooms ($1.50), classic tonkotsu ($17), and black tonkotsu ($17.50). I think the pricing is reasonable for the quality of ingreidents and portion size. CHICKEN KARAGAGE (8/10): The chicken is incredibly juicy and tender while the coating is crispy! The Japanese mayo on the side for dipping is delicious. It comes with several large pieces so it's a great option for an appetizer to share. SIGNATURE SHOYU (8/10): This is a Tokyo-style shoyu ramen with chicken and dashi broth that's savory, umami, and a little tangy. It comes with pork chashu (I subbed chicken for no extra cost), homemade noodles, spinach, bamboo shoot, scallion, nori, Japanese fish cake, and half a soy egg. I added extra spinach and kikurage mushrooms for $1.50 each. CLASSIC TONKOTSU (9/10): This has a rich and creamy pork broth with a savory umami flavor. It comes with pork chashu, homemade noodles, kikurage mushrooms, beni shoga, scallions, nori, and half a soy egg. This is definitely a must-order if it's your first time! BLACK TONKOTSU (8/10): This has a rich and creamy pork broth with black garlic oil. It comes with pork chashu, homemade noodles, kikurage mushrooms, beni shoga, scallions, nori, garlic chips, and half a soy egg. All the flavors pair well together but the garlic does overpower the pork flavor in the broth (but I think that's to be expected if you're ordering a black garlic tonkotsu). Honestly, there's nothing not to love about Ramen512... from the service to the ingredients to the pricing, it has everything you could want and more. Eventually, I'd love to try everything on the menu because there are so many great options! The interior has counter seating like what you would traditionally see at a ramen shop in Japan as well as tables so it's perfect for enjoying a meal by yourself or with your entire family. I would recommend Ramen512 to anyone in the north Austin area looking for authentic Japanese ramen at a reasonable price!

The pork was insanely good. The portion size was great as well, and there were just enough noodles. If you need more, the side order of noodles is enough to make almost a whole second bowl of ramen.

The bowl was loaded with a ton of lettuce or cabbage and piles of green onions, which totally threw off the balance of the dish. Before, the flavor was rich, deep, and spicy in a satisfying way. This time it felt watered down, overly bulky from the vegetables, and the overall taste just did not resemble what I remember at all. It felt like a completely different recipe. On top of that, the restaurant was dead at lunch, which was surprising for this place. The inside layout and seating have also been changed, and the space feels less cozy and more awkward than before. The whole vibe is just different. I hate writing this because this used to be the OG best ramen spot in town, but it has gone really downhill. Between the recipe change, the overload of greens, and the interior changes, it just was not the same experience. With so many new and better options around Austin now, I will not be returning.
