When the surprise charge appeared, I asked our waitress where the policy was disclosed. She didn't know. Neither did her colleagues. When I asked to see it posted, a staff member threatened to call the police on us for asking. We finally reached the owner by phone, who pointed to fine print on the menu cover that his own staff didn't know existed. I didn't like this local favorite as much as I thought I would. It wasn't that good at all. I came during lunchtime and it was packed with people. I was sat towards the back of the restaurant near the noisy kitchen and the restrooms. I ordered tofu spring rolls and stir fry dish. The spring rolls arrived at the same time as the main meal even though it was considered an appetizer. The stir fry was incredibly bland and the vegetables paired with it were wet from being washed making the dish itself soggy at the bottom. The portion size was there, but the flavor of the spring rolls too were bland. I asked for vegan hoisin sauce and was told that it doesn't exist. I told them that it wasn't true because right now in my refrigerator I have vegan hoisin sauce. I was then told again that they only had regular hoisin sauce. The spring rolls were thick and double wrapped creating more rice paper around the tofu making it very chewy to eat. In order to get to the contents inside, I had to take it apart. The peanut sauce was disgusting! I have no idea what they put in it, but the sauce was a very light brown in color, too loose, and tasted awful. I got my food to go only to toss it out. Ordered via yelp through door dash - super simple, easy and was ready within 20 minutes. I've also come here numerous times for lunch and it's a nice spot to grab something and know that you will be in and out as quickly as you want to make your visit. I tend to stick with what I know and love, chicken vermicelli just because it's so good. They don't skimp on the chicken (see photo) and it's charred perfectly and the flavor is delicious. Hello, giving this rate because I ate at y'all's place yesterday and was left with a bad experience, I communicated to your workers that me and my sister didn't like two of the plates, we placed an order of wings, soup and some meat and noddles, the wings tasted straight like garlic and very bitter, when I told the waiter this she said that you guys are not a wings place, then makes no sense this is on the menu, my sister was expecting different type of noddles on her plate, I also ordered a drink with boba, I was expecting the black boba, and when I talked to the waiter about it she said that I asked for classic boba and I thought that's what classic boba not tapioca is, if we get technical the tapioca it's the root/plant used to make the flour for the boba and if you look up classic boba on google you get the black boba. I communicated my issue being very respectful, not screaming or anything of that kind, didn't make a scene and I requested to talk to the manager and the waiter informed us that he did not want to talk to us which I think was very unprofessional and disrespectful. I finally tried this place in Bastrop. I ordered to pick up and the order was ready and the staff were very friendly. I think it would've been a much better experience had I eaten in the restaurant. The food was good, I got a chicken vermicelli bowl, but did not have a lot of taste. The fish sauce was great, but with my to go order I probably only got 1/3 of a little to go cup container and that just was not enough. I also added a little packet of soy sauce, but that didn't help much. I think they are a little pricey compared to the restaurants in the area so I'm not sure if I would go back or not. Since Bastrop doesn't have too many Asian restaurants and this is the only Vietnamese one, my expectations were relatively low. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the pho. We tried the steak/meatball pho and it was pretty tasty. The broth had a nice flavor. We also tried the steamed dumplings which were just okay -- I found them to be a little too doughy. Also, seemed a bit overpriced at $8 for 8 dumplings. Large menu with reasonable prices for the entrees. Friendly service. They did seem to forget my fiancé's beer. He had to follow up with another server who brought out our appetizer. They did bring us a free drink (some sort of promotion to celebrate their anniversary). We turned down a margarita so they brought out a matcha drink. A bit of an odd choice at almost 9pm and I wish they gave us some decaf options. But hey, it was free so can't really complain. This restaurant also has the advantage of being open "late." That is, until 9pm. We were initially going to get Thai but both of the Thai restaurants in town closed at 8pm. They get some of their drinks from the neighboring store Tea Valley. This is the best pho restaurant in town! Might even be the best in Austin. So glad this is in Bastrop as I'll be frequenting. Got the combination pho and it is loaded with quality meat and meatballs. Unlike many other places in Austin, the meat wasn't over cooked - it is supposed to come out looking raw and it gets cooked perfectly in the hot soup after it's served. This place doesn't have bad food. Surprisingly the catfish is pretty good. I came here for lunch a couple of times, but there's a few critiques I have. 1st: too overpriced for being in Bastrop. I could literally pay nearly half in Austin 2nd: staff needs to work on cleanliness. Always remember, people are watching your mannerisms when you serve our food, I.e: blowing your nose behind the counter without cleaning your hands prior to grabbing a plate. Or carrying a bowl of pho with your fingertips on the rim of the bowl in stead of carrying it with your hands on the bottom. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't complain as much. But I'll give benefit of the doubt that it may have already been addressed and fixed. It was only with one person, so I won't say everyone is that bad, but it put a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Great potential, but they're slipping a bit lately. I think these are training issues. But they're starting to add up. The pho is great and we'll continue to come here for the pho. But on one recent trip, they forgot to break up the noodles. It was just one solid clump of noodles in the shape of the container they'd stored them in. And they're only heated by the broth, so if they're all stuck together, they won't heat properly. On our most recent trip, my wife order pho and it was served properly and she enjoyed it. But I did not enjoy my shaking beef this time, because they offer it with steamed rice or fried rice and I chose fried, which came out at barely above room temperature. And the beef was warm, but not as hot as you expect for a dish that's called shaking beef because it's cooked in a wok that's so hot that the beef shakes around as it cooks. And it only cooks for 3-4 minutes, so there's no need to cook it in advance and reheat. But it didn't seem like it was fresh from the wok. And neither did the rice, even though our food came out in a timely manner. Their fried rice is basically white rice, soy sauce, peas and carrots. With simple fried rice like that, the flavor comes from the caramelization of a hot wok. It didn't reflect any of that in its appearance, taste or temperature. I really think it's just a training issue. These dishes are all well conceived but weren't well executed by whomever was working the kitchen. Hopefully they can address that. Same for the wait staff. They stacked all our spoons and forks on a single pile of napkins instead of giving each of us our own place setting. Really? And they checked on us regularly until the food come out but not once after that. I finished my beverage, then about ten minutes later I finished my food, and then I sat there for ten more minutes with an empty plate and glass until I finally realized that they weren't going to take my plate or ask if I wanted anything else, and that they don't bring you a bill. You have to walk up to the register. Look. It's good. It's Vietnamese. And it's in Bastrop. We'll keep coming (though, if this trend continues, maybe not as often). But if they can consistently realize their potential with the same menu and ingredients they have today, they'll be far more successful. read more

The food here is outstanding! I'm a creature of habit when I eat at places close to home. My go-to and recommendation is always the LabC Special bowl. Vermicelli bowl with your choice of protein, served with egg rolls on top. It's a little bit of everything you want. But.... I went a different direction this time. I ordered the chicken fried rice, heat level 3, with a fried egg on top. I regret nothing!!! So yummy, and don't forget you can add the chili to any dish, heat levels 1-5 (I've heard rumors of higher?) It's very cute with indoor and outdoor seating, and the service is always fast and friendly. One of my favorites in town PS: Do not sleep on the drinks here!!!!!!!
