I came early 2 days and was told to seat myself. The food…read morewas excellent as was the service. The third morning I arrived after checking out of the hotel and after waiting almost 10 minutes to be seated I figured I should just seat myself as I had done the two previous visits. I sat in the same area I had on the previous mornings, and after another 15 minutes I asked the girl at the breakfast counter if that area was open or should I move - she confirmed I was ok to sit there but still no one served me. A waitress finally asked the girl at the counter if I was waiting for someone and why I didn't have a menu. Counter girl finally brought a menu after being told to do so, and delivered it with a lecture about seating myself. I explained why I had sat down, and she still acted ruffled over it. 15 minutes later my cold eggs with burnt bacon arrived. 35 minutes later, no one had come back to check and see if I needed a refill or anything else, I pushed the dirty dishes to the edge of the table and still no one came with the bill. 10 minutes later, I finally get up from the table and walked over to the cash praying that someone will take my money so that I can leave. good food and good service should be consistent no matter which day you come, or if you are not aware of their seating procedures. I would have given this place five stars but after the snotty treatment I received today I would barely give them one star. Hopefully they see this review and keep in mind that working in a location attached to a hotel you may be dealing with people who have not been there before or may be tired after a long drive and not know what your rules are. If you are in the service industry, the least you can offer is being NICE! I don't know her name, but the blonde waitress did at least offer me a coffee for the road to make up for the terrible service, but at that point, I just felt like I couldn't trust any food from there so I declined .

At Ruby Foo's, Eggspectation is the other half of the dining area of Otago. The usual collection of perky business peeps mixed with groggy tourists are found here. Some know what they want, others are trying to figure out which way is up as they make their way out of the post party haze. I was somewhere in between. I had their classic breakfast as some of their creative items were too artsy or too large to intake in one breakfast sitting. The food didn't take too long and I do like their breakfast potatoes. Coffee is standard hotel strength - weak. Service was brisk and courteous. Some people have a luv/hate relationship with the chain. For the most part, I'm happy to find one when I am travelling as I know what to expect. Cheers.

Parking is now also free for up to 4hours, you can park comfortably indoors anytime. First time trying this chain, we ordered a coconut calamari appetizer, which sounded and looked great in the photo, but the shape and texture of the calamari was very odd once we got it. These were kind of like rounded french fries, did not taste like coconut at all and had a spicy sauce. These are not your fresh breaded calamari, they appear to be frozen. We sampled a korean style steak sandwich with side of ceasar salad and I got the blackened chicken breast and pasta. The food descriptions all seem very unique and fresh when we read the menu but once it arrives, it seems like there are missing some components, kind of disappointing. My pasta was average, cold too when it arrived, the sandwich had good asian flavors and meat was tender however. I think the items are hit or miss - often the description seems a lot better than reality. We ate during a friday afternoon, place was empty - service was prompt, no issues. Don't think i'll be back as food is quite average for price. The variety of options and nice location is what draws you in.

This was my second visit to L'Avenue Mont-Royal. This place is already in my "Top 10" Collection;…read moreif I were actually ranking those places, L'Avenue would certainly move up in the standings after visit #2. That was due in part to some new breakfast options since last time, which I'll file under "Ridiculously decadent and delicious." This time, for me, that was their "Indecisive" breakfast option including the Dubai Chocolate French Toast. Since my last visit, I've also switched from coffee to tea, and my order included English Breakfast. I was wondering why it took so long to arrive, my thought was, "It's just hot water and a tea bag." Bzzzt, wrong! I was actually brought a heavy duty porcelain teapot with the English Breakfast leaves steeping, and they did not deliver it until it was ready. Well done!! For me, no trip to Montreal is complete without a visit to at least one L'Avenue restaurant (yes there are more!)

The front area is a bakery with beautiful dessert displays. I wish I had a room for dessert. We came for the Quiche Lorraine, and the portion was huge -- probably enough for 3 people, I would say. We got the pear dessert, lemon meringue, and Ferrero chocolate cake, and together the three desserts came to around $45. Honestly, I didn't want to like them as much as I did because of the price, but they were all so good that we immediately wanted more. The pear dessert was light and delicate, while the outer white chocolate layer added a really nice crunch. I was super happy to see them because they were viral on TikTok lol. The Ferrero chocolate cake was super creamy and rich, and even the base had that delicious Ferrero flavor throughout. The lemon meringue was also light and refreshing, while the bottom crust still had a nice firmness to it in a good way. Every dessert was super flavorful and tasted amazing. The staff greeted us right away when we came in for takeout, and everyone was very friendly. They also helped pack our desserts, although I personally would have preferred if each dessert was packaged separately. The shop itself is really cute too.
