Holy jamoly. How have I not found this place before?? Orange Julep (9/10): Best fast food drink I've ever had!! I love the fresh orange juice. It's blended perfectly with the cream. Actually not too sweet, and is a great thirst quencher. Holy moly we actually had to order a second one because it was so good. Hot Dogs Michigan (8/10): First time having this style of hot dog. We were staying in the area while visiting Montréal. Montréal's famous Gibeau Orange Julep Restaurant is easily spotted by the giant orange dome on the restaurant. It's been around since 1932 and looks like to be a popular destination for locals and tourists. Our group just wanted something quick to eat since we spent the day in Old Montréal and was heading back to the hotel. The parking is a circle surrounding the structure. The speed of the line went pretty quick from ordering to getting the meal considering they had a steady line while we were there. There is option to dine there with some bench and table seating to the left of the ordering station. We just grab and took our stuff back to the hotel since it was late and a little windy the day we went there. We shared a poutine and got small orange julep drinks to share. The poutine was good, but not my favorite in this city. What I liked about it was the gravy. Rich and a generous amount on the fries. I didn't wish that the fries could have been more crisp. I think they got soggier by the gravy. The cheese curds were a bit melty- also there was no squeak when I took a bite. True cheese curds make a squeak when you chew them. Just not sure we didn't get a squeaking batch. The orange julep I would definitely come back for again. It was super refreshing and a little frothy on the finish. So good I wished I got a bigger size. It was a big hit with my daughter too. They sell them in different sizes and even sell a big sharing jug. We didn't try other offerings of food they had (hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, spaghetti, wings, nuggets, desserts and breakfast), but may be on the next visit. It's worth checking out. A very iconic spot in Montreal which is a must-visit. We went there on a Saturday night and obviously it was packed. Very different vibe there. Many vegetarian options in the menu. Food was good overall. We went for a grilled cheese, vegetarian burger (both combos) and a veggie pogo. Liked all three. Fries were good. O-Juice was nice but felt a bit sugary than sour. Portions were good and it didn't feel heavy. All their meals are given in takeout brown bags - no trays, plates etc. They don't have any indoor seating options but there are standing counters. There are a couple of benches outside if the weather permits. Many folks just got the food to their cars and ate them there. Staff was nice. Given it was our first time, we had a few questions which they answered well. Plenty of parking outside. Definitely recommended. read more

Orange Julep is one of those places you just don't forget. That big orange sphere right off the highway -- you see it from a mile away. You can't miss it. I honestly hadn't been in years, so this felt like a little throwback moment. First of all, the hot dogs are huge. They're grilled (not steamed), and one was more than enough for me. Add the combo and you get a big portion of fries too, so you're definitely not leaving hungry. And obviously, if you're going to Orange Julep, you know what you're going for or you have to try ! A total underrated hot dog spot. No frills - just a good take out or late night spot. What makes this place attractive to locals and tourists is that it's cheap and fast. It's sort of Montreal's version of in and out for hot dogs lol though they serve other items like chicken fingers and burgers too. Even poutine though that's not what they're known for. I was originally planning to go to Decarie Hot Dog for lunch, but it was closed for the holidays. As I was taking the Metro back downtown, I remembered this place and myself having never come here, so I decided to get off the Metro to stop by here. The reviews already covered the setup well. It's not much, with a small standing area inside for dine-in, with a couple tables outside open during the summer. I had 2 steamies all dressed and a medium orange julep. The steamies were very good. The orange julep was...fine, but too sweet for my liking. I will say for the north of $20 pricing I paid here, I don't think I got my money's worth. Fun facts time. My brothers & I were not allowed fast food (or soda!) growing up... real power move from my mom, turned all 3 of us into adults with next to no desire to eat junk - and as such, there's a TON of very common fast food places I've never tried. This was one of them - although I grew up around Montreal, I had never visited until my 40's, when my Boyfriend (who is forever amused by the number of local "landmarks" I haven't been to) took it upon himself to take me to Orange Julep. Super impressed by the food! I'm picky about fries, but I loved theirs - greasy & tasty - and I love that their hot dogs have toasted buns. Met a European friend who I hadn't seen in decades and decided we try out Gibeau Orange Julep, the iconic Montreal hot dog stand in the shape of a giant orange. I'm a native New Yorker whose childhood memories include Nathan's and Wetson's, and also grew up on Orange Julius. Given their names proximity to Orange Julius, ordered a "Trio" with an Orange Julep drink, hot dog and my first ever poutine. She had an Orange Julep and her first corn dog ever, a.k.a. their "Pogo." From my understanding Orange Julius's drink dates back to 1926 and Orange Julep started after that, but not clear what the connection is, but both delicious drinks taste if not identical, only discernible if they are side-by-side. The hot dog was solid with onions, relish, mustard and some type of slaw. And the poutine, rich with cheese curds and gravy, as tasted as expected... plus something to clog an artery. My friend especially enjoyed her first time corn dog with mustard. Note - Some may find Orange Julep pricey for a cheap eats. I'd recommend heading out to Gibeau Orange Julep on Boulevard Décarie at least once when visiting Montreal. The fun building is a sight-to-be-seen for nostalgia buffs and kids. read more

Came to try the orange julep and was very pleasantly surprised by the lightness! It was clear that fresh squeezed orange juice was used but thereafter, where I expected something heavy or thick (it was compared to a orange creamsicle after all), it was pretty liquidy and finished with just the slightest creaminess. It was nice! After a few sips though, I did think it got a bit too sweet though so it's best to share. If you ask me, no trip to Montreal is complete without stopping my the Juelep. I always get the same thing, a large julep, a hot dog, and an order of fries for the table. It never disappoints! They have added more seating since my last visit so we were able to sit and enjoy our food and drinks. The julep was better than I remembered. I wish there was one in my city. The fries are always super greasy so I always add vinegar and salt. The hot dogs come with the option to add coleslaw which I think is an underrated topping. Came for the Orange Julep, and left with my Orange Julep. It's basically an enclosed Hot Dog stand at the stadium type of deal. Nothing fancy, but it works! Was looking a bit more sad since we visited in the winter. Employees are young but friendly. It's definitely on the pricey side, but worth it for the Orange Julep. It's essentially a melted Orange creamsicle in drink form, and I am here for it. We visited Montreal for 5 days, and we came for the Julep 3 days out of the week. The big orange ball really got us. We were driving past it, and thought they sold orange juice, which we really wanted as something refreshing. There was a short line but multiple windows to order from so it was quick. The staff was friendly and when we asked what was in the orange julep, they said it was a secret - family recipe. We ended up getting the pogo (corndog), poutine, and an orange julep. The pogo was a classic, not oily and actually a good balance between the hotdog and batter. The poutine was the classic version with gravy and cheese curds smothering the fries. The fries were a mix between crispy and soggy, of course the ones under the gravy would be soggier. It was piping hot and very warming to the belly, especially on a cold winter morning. The orange julep was delicious! I can see why people were ordering liters of it to go. They make your food to order and the person who took your order packages it and hands it to you which I thought was a nice touch. The Julep reminded me of an Orange Julius drink. Freshly squeezed orange juice with sort of slushy consistency and very very sweet. Good but too sweet for me. Hot Dogs were okay & Poutine was very good. Unfortunately, they no longer offer Smoked Meat. Gibeau was our first stop on our Montreal vacation. It was SO good we made sure to stop by again before we left. Iconic building, fast service, and delicious food with great deals with their trios. Their orange julep is truly addicting, it's fresh, smooth, and creamy -- next time we're getting a half gallon. Their poutine was delicious and filling, I adore their cheese curds and gravy. My boyfriend said their fully dressed hotdog was one of the best hotdogs he's ever had. And their pogos (corndogs) were nice and crispy. A must visit if you are planning a trip to Montreal. Though it is not part of the city core, it is still easy to get to we it's right off the highway. The service there is always very nice and though the workers are always very busy they still have lots of energy. When you visit, it's a pretty good deal to buy the jugs of julep. Getting your hot dog all dressed is also a must when visiting! Of course you should get the poutine while you're there as well. Though the price is a bit high, the quality for fast food like this is pretty high a tasty. In the summer time they also have another section that's gated off with picnic tables so there is lots of seating and if you're lucky you can find shade under the orange! read more

A friend recommended that we try the orange juice here !! Took us back to Sri lanka! The juice tasted just like the road side juice shops. Was a little too sweet for me but we absolutely enjoyed it !! Love it !! The shop was hard to miss. The girls at the counter were pretty nice to us. So service all in all was good ! This is not a fancy sit down place, but more of a fast food joint. We were looking forward to having their orange juice, but actually were disappointed. It was worth a try for us, but not for us as we were looking for pure squeezed orange juice. The onion rings were very good, crispy and brown. We were certainly not disappointed. The poutine and hot dogs were absolutely spectacular, which was a pleasant surprise considering we were expecting this to be an average food place with the Julep being the star of the show. Passed by Montreal so decide to try this place. It has a cute big orange you can't miss. We only got the large orange juice to share with 4 people, we think it's around 1L, it costs $10 with tax not cheap! They also have burgers and fries but we skipped as we had fast food for breakfast. Most people get the smaller version of orange juice, probably around 500ml for around $7. We found the juice taste good but it feels like mix with some other ingredients unlike those orange juice we got from supermarkets. Iconic in Montreal and hard to miss on Décarie Boulevard, Orange Julep literally has a massive orange sculpture that can be seen from blocks away. It's little an orange 3 storeys tall. Even though I already had lunch, I had to try their famous Orange Julep. It's an orange-flavoured, creamy, milkshake-like drink. It tastes like a delicious liquid version of an orange creamsicle. I would recommend when in Montreal. Nowhere to sit, it's an old school drive in restaurant.
