After a Girl's Night Out, my friend and I were in need of a good hearty breakfast. I immediately thought of Viv's. We got right in, which was a surprise for a Sunday. The coffee was hot, the service was friendly, and the price was right. We ordered the same thing - a plate that had both french toast and eggs! The best of both worlds! The french toast was amazing! Tried this place once right before I left and found it to be very quaint. I love the hole-in-the-wall feel but this place was a little larger than that. Location is great and full of local snowbirds. This is a small and quaint breakfast/brunch restaurant that is conveniently located on the way to Mount Lemmon. If reviewing on food alone, it would be a 4 star. It had a variety of options and everything came out tasty and as ordered. If reviewing on service alone, it would be a 2 star. All of the other servers were happy and enthusiastic - yelling "hello" as soon as you walked in. However, our server was very distracted and spent most of her time behind the counter playing on her cell phone. She never checked in on us and never offered a 2nd cup of coffee (which I feel coffee should be a staple in a place like this). Okay, I guess, third time really is the charm. After our neighbor told us to "turn into the third driveway of the shopping center...after the Cajun restaurant," we finally found Viv's. It was so nice outside, we never set foot in the restaurant. Our breakfast was delightful ... good food and over-the-top service -- energetic and genuinely welcoming. This review is regarding the customer service. We ended up leaving shortly after we arrived. So we opened the front door to be greeted by a packed restaurant. We stepped inside the door and observed a waitress engaged with a patron. After standing there for a period of time, I spotted a booth toward the back. Still not having been engaged by any staff and no sign indicating if we were to seat ourselves or wait to be seated, I approached the booth towards the back. As I approached the booth, the waitress at the front (engaged with the patron) stopped long enough to ask a lady in the back ( just outside the restroom) if she was sitting at the booth? She nodded that she was sitting there. At this point, I walked back to the front and we left. At no time were we ever engaged by staff. Even if I could be guaranteed a seat, I would not return to this restaurant based on their customer service (or lack thereof)! read more

By far my favorite place in Tucson to go for breakfast and lunch. Diner style food served by the friendliest waitstaff and managment imaginable. Most patrons who are served at Viv's are "regulars" known by name from the waitstaff and once visiting you'll figure out why. Small cafe about 30 seats, with a great outdoor patio. Usually a waiting list on Sunday mornings. The chicken salad sandwich and french fries are my favorite... it makes me hungry to think about the food there. Worth the visit... Wow, the prices here are GREAT! I had the guac, cheese and chili omelet which was good and my bf had the corned beef hash. Good old fashioned diner food and service was very good. Been here before on the way to Tucson Rodeo. Took the kids and grandkids for Mother's Day brunch. Coffee is good and hot. Corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and homefries delish. My youngest grandson said it best: "I really like this place! The food is so good, not like other places." Prices very economical. Will return soon! read more

So many great things to write about this little cafe/diner, tucked away in a shopping center. One would want to think of this place as their beloved greasy spoon but there isn't any grease about it! Great breakfast menu with the standard items and be sure to check out the board on the inner front window for daily specials. Lunch is served here as well and the kids meals are generous portions below $4 each. I could take a picture of my various entrees I've ordered but I'd almost rather post of a picture of the interior. It's certainly not bad, but there was very little during my visit that really made me want to come back. The food's okay, and it's at an okay price, and the service is mediocre. There are things that I try not to fault a waiter or waitress for, such as messing up an order, but little stuff just kept piling up: order mess-ups for both of us, uninterested waitress, a cashier that ignored us for a while, infrequent drink refills, and so on. The whole time I got the feeling of being an outsider, as though they just couldn't be bothered unless we were already regulars. There were some good qualities as well. The wait time was short. I will begin by saying I came here because of the Yelp reviews. The service is prompt and friendly and the Grilled Club is fantastic! Plenty of meat and just the right amount of cheese! The fries are cooked to perfection which is always awesome! As people get up someone walks in the door to get a table consistently busy! We decided to try this little café located minutes from where we live. It is a tiny little restaurant on a side corner of a quiet strip mall in Tucson heading up to Mt. Lemmon. We walked in to find that it was jam packed and the walls were covered with miscellaneous items, making it seem even smaller inside than it already was. We chose to sit outside and were informed that it is seat yourself with no wait outside. Perfect! We'd much rather sit outdoors than cramped inside like sardines. The food was good, but nothing really special. I ordered the daily special which was the huevos rancheros and my husband had an omelet with pancakes. Both were just so-so and could have easily been made at home. Due to the fact that it is a small place that was incredibly busy, the service from the wait staff was rushed and not very attentive. I'm still not quite sure who our actual waitress was because at least three different women served us throughout our meal. It seems like they could use a few role playing scenarios to help improve their customer service as their attitudes were quite casual and left us feeling as though we were an imposition to them for being there. Overall, it was an average meal at a hole in the wall local café. On the plus side, their prices were pretty low if you're looking for a something on the cheaper side. read more

I wish I could rate it better but I just can't. The portions were amazingly reasonable and the hashbrowns were phenomenal, but that is as far as my happiness goes. I ordered an omelette which was missing several ingredients when it came out so I had them remake it. The second time, they STILL didn't get it right. At this point, I was super hungry and my husband was done eating so I just ate what they brought me and it wasn't anything to write home about. Making the order incorrectly the first time is forgivable. Getting it wrong after it was sent back: not so much. Very disappointed and we will not be returning. Recently moved to this side of town and didn't have any food in the fridge from the move so we decided to stop and get breakfast. The reviews on here seemed pretty good and we want to get to know the area so we stopped by. There was no wait and you seat yourself there. We grabbed the first table available as there weren't many left. You can definitely tell there are a LOT of regulars there. Everyone knew each other's names, a lot of people were sitting in big parties of 4 or more. It was a little off-putting as you walked in, everyone kinda stared at us like they knew we hadn't been there before. The place is small and it was VERY loud in there. The waitresses were yelling across the room to each other. There was a woman in a wheelchair who rammed into the side of my chair repeatedly until I moved out of her path, which I couldn't even see her at the angle she was in so a simple 'excuse me' would've worked. We ordered our food and small Orange juices. What upset me the most is that the small orange juice was like a serving size for a toddler. It was TINY. We had to order waters as well to make sure we had enough drinks for our food as we didn't want to order more orange juice. I had over medium eggs, bacon, and a waffle. The eggs were good, but nothing special and definitely something I couldn't made better at home. The bacon was good as well, but my boyfriend didn't like it, he thought it tasted bland. The waffle was so-so. I'm a sucker for a good waffle and know that not all places make it well. The one I had here today didn't have that homemade diner taste I was looking for. Also something I could've made better at home. I think the only thing we tried that stood out to us was the cinnamon French toast my boyfriend ordered. Also not one of a kind, but better than anything else we had ordered. We didn't know who our waiter was, we were attended by 2 different women. They were pleasant but you could tell they were busy and rushed, they didn't make it a point to make the experience good. They were definitely trying harder for the regulars. The prices are affordable, the place reminds me of Jerry Bob's but with a weird obsession with James Dean and Elvis Presley. The walls are covered top to bottom with pictures of them. I guess it's supposed to support the diner theme? Overall, a good place if you want a cheap, quick, sit-down meal. If you want some better food, I would probably suggest IHOP. I probably won't be returning. The only reason I'm not giving them 1 star is everyone was doing their jobs, no one was rude to us (except for the woman who rammed into my chair), the food was okay and affordable. read more

Food was not the best, for a mom and pop, I didn't expect much but I didn't expect what I got. The account was a lot but the quality was a little off for me. The veggies in the omelet were not sautéed at all, they were all raw and didn't have any taste. The service was bad. I hag top ask for a drink for my 3 yo son about 4 times before he got it. On our way to Mt Lemmon from Sabino Canyon, we stopped by this busy local breakfast and lunch cafe. Loved the casual family vibe with vacation photos and retro posters of James Dean, Elvis , and Sinatra. I had the Western burger with cheddar,grilled onions and bacon. Great value for $6. Husband had the Sante Fe chicken sandwich with jack cheese and green chiles. Both sandwiches were delicious with yummy waffle cut sweet potato fries. With some waters to drink, the bill came to $10.79. And the waitress was friendly and attentive. Very happy. read more

I am going to preface this review with the fact that I am a little biased. I have eaten at Viv's a lot. I have never had mediocre service in all the times that I have been there. I have never had anything on the menu that wasn't delicious. I just love this restaurant. Can you find a place with better prices? Sure. Can you find a place with better food? Sure. Can you find a place with nicer furniture? Sure. Can you find a place with better service? Maybe. Can you find a place I would rather have breakfast at? No. I can't think of a place that I would recommend more for breakfast in Tucson than Viv's. The only problem might be that it is small and can be packed on weekend mornings. It gets packed because a lot of people feel the same way about Viv's as I do. If you live on the East Side, Viv's is a must. If you are a big fan of Bobo's, Viv's is worthy competition. This place was horrible to find!!!! Came into the place and sat down. Waitress asked if we wanted menus?! No, we are just going to guess what we can get for breakfast.... I ordered the south of the border omelet with white toast and hash browns and hubby ordered Monterey omelet with biscuits and gravy. Hubby was happy with his breakfast. I however was not.... Omelet was supposed to be southwestern and to me it looked more like mid-western. We will not be going here again..... :( read more

Family run neighborhood restaurants are a vanishing breed, and that's a real shame. Viv's fights the iHop/Denny's trend by offering great food, reasonable prices, and most of all, terrific, friendly service from a wonderful staff. I've eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. Though I'm not recognized as a "regular" since I'm only an occasional visitor, I'm always treated like they're very happy I've returned. Every service establishment owner in Tucson should visit here at least once to see how quality, fair prices, and First Class Customer Treatment make regular customers out of first time visitors. read more

Wow, what a disappointment! I'll start by saying we had planned on Eegee's for lunch, after a morning up on Mt. Lemmon, and I wish I would have never changed our plans for Viv's! I got a hankering for a good burger and saw all the high star reviews for this joint...I should have actually read the reviews first! We arrived on Saturday lunch time. This place was filled with regulars. This place isn't very clean, which is just gross! The dumpsters located only 50 feet from the entrance should have been a big red flag! But, at the end of a shopping plaza, the dumpsters gotta be somewhere, right? $8 for a frozen burger and unripe fresh fruit was a rip off! The good thing, is the owner is making a killing on a burger that probably cost $1.50 to make and had less flavor than what I have ever made at home! Lastly, my biggest pet peeve is when you ask how I want my burger cooked but then just cook it well done anyway. Here's a tip, don't ask how I want it cooked if #1 it's frozen, and #2 you're going to cook it well done anyway. Needless to say, my husband and kids were pissed that I ruined our Eegee's plan for a place that was a waste of $40 that we will never come to again. While the staff was pleasant, it was extremely unprofessional to hear the staff bad talking another member of staff who had some personal issues, to a customer. I don't care if the customer was a regular, Grandma Jo, or the owner, that kind of talk shouldn't take place where other customers can hear. It's just plain rude and disrespectful. This place needs a facelift, a good cleaning, and some fresh meat for those burgers! read more

This is a great place to go for breakfast or lunch! If you're heading up to Mt. Lemmon for the day I would say stop in and eat, it's better than any food you'll find at the top of the mountain! Viv owns this joint PLUS she's one of the servers. Sweet lady. Our favorite server is Jill. Even after moving out of town for two years she greeted us with a smile, a welcome home, and compliments on our newest addition to our family (our 6 month old daughter). It feels like you're at Mom's house having breakfast! The pork chops and eggs takes about twenty min to cook, but it is WELL worth the wait- two large, lightly breaded pork chops fresh as can be will melt in your mouth! If you haven't visited Viv's..
