Great find after our trip to Mackinac Island. We were so hungry we forgot to take photos. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and manicotti and they were both delicious -- so good we ordered another manicotti to go. Busy night for a Wednesday but staff worked fast and got things going quickly. Holy somoly this place is AWSOME we were In town and ordered from here for take out. They have a very nice bar. The pizza was AWSOME. The sauce is not sweet, very tasty sauce. The crust had a little bit of char who's added great flavor. As we ordered just before closing for a pick up and when they learned. We were eating in hotel room, they provided plates and other condiments. We also ordered the bread with feta cheese. All I can say was OH MY GOODness. It was delicious. Worst pizza we've had in a long time. We've been coming to Vivio's for over 40 years and made this an essential stop on our family vacations up North. Service was a little slower than before, but that's no big deal. It turned out to be a sign of a new era for this Indian River mainstay. We had to ask for breadsticks after the salad arrived, and it turns out only toast is offered. Then came the pizza. All three were burned. The pepperoni was smaller than a quarter - think school cafeteria style. The Vivío's Special certainly did not live up to its name. Skimpy on toppings. The crust tasted totally different. Looking around the table, I've never seen so many half eaten pieces left to be thrown away. Our server was very kind and professional. The manager heard our concerns and offered the perfunctory $50 gift card for us to try again another time. Not sure it will get used. We heard there was new management, and it was clear the old staff did not stay. It's too bad as they took the recipe for success with them. They don't allow you to order before your party is seated. Fine, but when I asked about ordering ahead, the hostess rudely told me multiple times that they "don't do call ahead seating." Okay, we moved in to takeout because we had a hungry 4 year old, and there is a nice little park outside we could sit at and eat. Ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza, received a sausage and mushroom pizza. Pizza was simultaneously dry and undercooked, like I reheated a previously undercooked pizza in the oven at home. ordered pizza and antipasta for 2 aug 7 2023. pizza was very good . However the antipasta was not ! We got 2 small thin squares slices of cheese, 1 and 1 half slices of hard salami, 2 green olives and 2 black olives along with 2 slices of tomato , and a decent amount of lettuce for 10$, im not one to complain too much about anything i get anywhere . I called to see if they had a new employee or if this was a mistake and they told me no , and all she said was sorry. Pizza is fantastic. Hostess was very very rude. I am an attorney working in the labor and employment sector. I tried to explain to her that their tip out policy sounded like it was likely illegal (at least as she explained it). She told me "not in Michigan" with HUGE attitude. Mind you I was describing a federal law. At best she's a jerk. At worst she's lying to customers abt who the tips are going to to try to generate more $ for herself all while causing legal implications for this adorable establishment. read more

We were looking for good Italian food and this was really below the mark. The atmosphere is fine and the service was good, but the food was bland. The antipasta salad was okay. I ordered the perch and it was edible but lacked seasoning. The fries were very good.My friend ordered the chicken scallopini which is supposed to be pieces of chicken breast pounded very thin in a delicate lemon caper sauce. This dish was served with whole pieces of chicken and the sauce was too thick to the point of being congealed. The warm rolls brought with meal would have been appreciated with the salad because the toasted bread in the breadbasket brought with the salad was stale. However, they must do a good pizza because the pizzas were flying out of there! If I ever went back, it would be to try the pizza! read more

Liked that there are a few options for vegetarians. It was the veg lasagna that led me to try the place. Actual lasagna was a little small; could use less cheese and more veg. I come to Michigan every summer to eat at Vivio's. I come for the Spaghetti & Chicken Livers and they never disappoint. Others at our table enjoyed their famous pizza and other pasta dishes. The staff is friendly and the decor very Up North. The drinks are a little weak, but the bartender treats the regulars like family. Yes, the salads are iceberg lettuce and the olives are canned. Yes, the salad dressing comes in pre-portioned little plastic cups. Yes, the pasta is a little over-cooked. It's part of the charm. I love Vivio's and will continue to come every summer as long as I can. Last year I purchased a Vivio's wine glass and this year I bought a hat as a souvenir. read more

Great pizza! I stopped in with my family a few weeks ago and we ordered 3 of the Vivio's Special (onion, no anchovies) per the suggestion of my uncles who have been eating here for years. The pizza was awesome. Regular hand tossed crust which is my favorite style, great sauce, and plenty of fresh toppings. Things they could work on: -The bread basket. Stale, hard pieces of toast and breadsticks with butter so cold you can't spread it. Not good. Needs an upgrade. Or just get rid of it. -The salad. Iceberg lettuce sprinkled with some veg and cheese and served with a bland house dressing. I loathe iceberg lettuce. Come for the pizza. Eat the pizza. That's all i have to say. read more

We have been going here for many years for what we had believed to be the best pizza in northern Michigan. However, the last two visits here have been very disappointing. We always order a large pizza with extra sauce. Both of the last two visits the pizza served looked like they had went with "less" sauce, and extra cheese. This last visit the pizza tasted like it had been sitting in the kitchen too long and the cheese was firming up and only Luke warm. Because we were with friends both times we didn't complain or send the pizza back so as not to ruin the evening. Not sure what's happened here but certainly not worth sitting down to what looks and tastes more like a piece of cardboard with cheese on it. read more

This is my first time visiting Indian River. Planned a vacation around the ATV trails and on our first night we stopped at Viveo's after riding all day in near freezing weather. To begin with the place opens at 5 and we got there about 10 after 5 only to find the parking lot already full. Surprised me they were so busy that soon after they opened. We each ordered a Jack and Coke and they got to our table fast. When I say a drink is good, I mean they put enough booze in it so that you can tell what the liquor is. We couldn't taste the coke part. Big thumbs up from me on the free pour bar. That is the way I make drinks at home. We ordered a large specialty pizza and got a garlic bread basket. That wasn't the best but I mainly wanted it to have with our drinks. Pizza arrived and they have simply a fantastic pizza. Sauce is delicious. Crust is obviously made there, and the toppings are generous. One of the best pizzas I've had and I couldn't believe how fast it arrived. Looking around the dining room it was apparent that most people were there for the pizza and I can see why. Spending another 3 days here so I wouldn't be surprised if we stop back at Viveo's again. read more

My dad and I visited this place looking for a place to eat for dinner while he was visiting. I'm new to the area and it had a good Yelp rating. The inside has a rustic but modern look, it was clean, and we were seated quickly. The menu was inviting, filled with comfort foods like spaghetti, lasagna, and pizza. He ordered the spaghetti and I ordered the lasagna. Both were tasty and neither of us left hungry. Had it not been for the service, I would have given this 4 or 5 stars, the star reduction comes from the poor service. Our waitress was very nice the few times we saw her. It took her 15-20 minutes to greet our table and bring us waters, another 15 minutes to take our order, and we we waited 10 minutes after our food was finished to get our bill. We ran our of water twice and had to ask another employee to get us refills on one of the two occasions. Her lack of attention would have been understanding if the place was packed and/or they were short staffed but it was a Wednesday in October and the place was at roughly 25% of capacity. All that being said, I will give it another try. I won't judge a place bases on one visit. read more

The pizza, feta bread, and spaghetti with meat sauce were all really good, but the chicken parmesan was dry, the whitefish batter was funky, the garlic toast was burned, the broccoli was undercooked, and the salad was just iceberg with rust on it. Vivio's is a Northern Michigan/Burt Lake institution. Family owned/run and absolutely the best pizza around. We order extra crispy. During the Covid shutdown, we'd order a half baked pizza and take it home, finish it off at 500 degrees in our oven - felt like we were eating there. Expect a wait, expect things to not be precisely as you want it and you'll find the magic/charm that's kept lines out the door for years.
