My experience with Vivint has been nothing short of a nightmare for the past year. Earlier this year we decided that the service was not worth the cost, and we started looking into canceling our account. We learned that our contract would need to be bought out at 50% and we decided to stick with it for a while longer. We had another company (Delta) solicit via door-to-door. The cost was going to be cheaper for similar service and they offered to buy-out the Vivint contract. We opted to give Delta a try but during the installation process/first couple of weeks, we discovered that we did not like service provided by Delta and found they were dishonest about what they actually offered, trying to tack the costs of cancelling with Vivint onto our new loan without disclosing/us noticing. Also during this time period, we had a solicitor from Vivint stop by wondering why he saw non-Vivint equipment (Delta doorbell) but the Vivint sign was still up in our front yard. I noticed that this Vivint employee was wearing a Vivint shirt, but also wore a baseball cap with the Delta logo on it. This made me very uncomfortable, making me feel like these two companies are working together and taking advantage of people. I immediately decided that I want nothing to do with Delta or Vivint, because I do not trust either company.
Delta came and uninstalled their equipment and that was that.
I initiated the cancellation with Vivint, having to argue with the employee because the amount quoted for the buyout was higher than the amount quoted several months back when I was first considering cancelling, despite my having made monthly payments to them for service which should have brought the buyout down. I spent too many hours arguing with them, and in the process they actually charged my debit card for the buyout amount without my consent, leaving my bank account in financial distress for a week while I got that sorted out. I finally got that situated, and gave consent for the intended credit card to be charged for the buyout amount. They said the account would take about 21 days to completely be cancelled, and that in the meantime I can disregard any requests for payment for typical service charges.
I cancelled my contract with Vivint on August 19, 2025, but I continued to receive email notifications stating that I owed a balance through September and October. I called to question these emails in September, and was advised to safely ignore them as the processing of the closure is being processed. Once the account is closed the balance due would go away. Multiple calls were made in September and October, and I was always told the same thing.
In October I continued to receive these emails as well as started getting spammed with daily phone calls from Vivint try to collect this balance. DAILY! on 10/24/25I spoke with a representative from the billing department, who forwarded me to the loyalty department. They looked at my account and could see that the cancellation was not full processed, and that was an error on Vivint's side - I had completed everything that was asked of me on my end. This individual transferred me to Jason from the loyalty department. Jason was pretty smooth with his job and actually had me considering coming back if Vivint offered free reinstallation, 10 free months, and NO CONTRACT. I told Jason that I needed to speak with my partner. Jason offered to call me on the following Monday to followup. He never did.
I continued to receive the emails and phone calls so I reached out to Vivint again. When Jason never followed up I took that as a clear sign that I will never be going back to Vivint - between the departments apparently these is zero communication, and apparently zero motivation for the employees to do well with their jobs because things fall through the cracks constantly. I cannot count on Vivint to follow through with simple tasks, why would I trust them any longer with my home security?! On 10/29/25 I called back and got connected with David in the loyalty department. David said he could see the issue, apologized profusely (like everyone else had), and assured me that the closure of my account would be completed within 2-3 business days.
On 10/31 I received an email about the confirmation of the cancellation of my account , but there was an outstanding balance of $126.99. In the email was a threat that if I did not pay within 30 days, the account would be referred to a collection's agency!
On 11/3 I called back and was connected with Matthew, a supervisor of the loyalty department. He could see that the account was cancelled, but not back dated. He assured me he would get it taken care of, and it would be cleared up in 1-2 business days. Too soon to tell if I am out of the Vivint nightmare web, yet.
I am just waiting for the next BS surprise from this company! read more
