I am utterly disappointed with my experience at this salon and feel compelled to warn others. From the moment I sat down, it was a disaster. I specifically came in for a dip powder manicure, which I always get. Instead of simply saying they don't offer it, the technician pushed me very hard into getting a gel manicure. I felt pressured and gave in, which was my first mistake. The unprofessionalism started immediately. Two employees were literally debating right in front of me, going back and forth on who was going to "have to" do my nails. It was awkward and made me feel like an inconvenience. The work itself was atrocious. I asked for a French manicure, and what I got looks like it was done by a 5-year-old with a dull crayon. The lines are shaky, uneven, and thick. The shapes of the nails are all different and some are rounded, some are squared, and they are not uniform at all. They also didn't bother to clean the polish from around my cuticles, leaving a messy, amateurish look. I didn't want to make a scene, so I quietly paid the $45 and even left a $5 tip, which I immediately regretted. This service was not worth a single penny. Changing my 5 stars to 2. I had a gel powder manicure done which is $45. Only two days afterwards, three nails chipped. That shouldn't happen THAT soon. I didn't even do anything strenuous to make them chip. One chipped off a bar of soap that was wet! I had the woman at the last manicure chair who wasn't polite or friendly. To top it off, for the gel powder, they only had about 20 colors to choose from and they were mostly with sparkles. I won't be returning here and neither should you. read more

I recently moved to SI, and got a recommendation from a young woman at a local business to go here. I made an appointment and walked in and was very politely greeted. I had a set of gel powder nails with gel polish from my prior salon in Virginia, and advised them I wanted a fill of the same. About ten minutes into my appointment, I was switched to a different tech who while polite, insisted I had acrylic nails. I told her no, I'd been getting fills on this set for over a year and I knew what they were, but she kept insisting and I just stopped. She filled them, but did them so thickly that I couldn't even scratch a itch if I had one, and was so rough on my hands that I had cuts from the files on almost all of fingers and cuticles by the end of it and had to have her put the blood stopper (the green liquid). She also seemed to get pissy when I asked to change to the neutral color versus the bright one I had chosen before she even started painting them (which I did become I knew it wasn't a good fill and didn't want it to stand out because I didn't want to have to go where somewhere else so quickly). Overall, it was not a positive experience and while a nice looking place, isn't a place I'd want to go back to. I had to have my old tech in Virginia on a recent visit remove them because until I can find a place that will do my nails well, it's not worth getting them redone. This is the neighborhood salon that is an absolute must for gel manicures. Really top-notch! And a pedicure too. Because who wants to go to two different salons. Young did my French gel manicure, and all I can say is: FABULOUS. The meticulous and down-to-earth Young and staff make you feel so welcomed. They are the sweetest nail salon I've ever been to. I am SO happy I come here. While listening to soothing music, I had my pedicure and it was quite an enjoyable experience. Edit: they do use the bag liner in the tub. I do wish they used a jelly bath soak though. Overall, I am happy with my pedicures. My appointment was at 6 o'clock and I was taken exactly on time. 2 stars for being open late! For us working ladies, the hours are great! However, I made an appointment for a gel manicure and the lady rushed through my nails like I've never seen before. I get it, you want to go home, same here.. but damn! $30 for a gel mani, make sure it is good! The gel didn't even go up to my cuticle, nor did she remove the cuticle. It looks like I've had it for a week already! Showed the girl at the front desk after I showed the technician and she was like you have to tell them to go up to the cuticle? I'm sorry? All the ladies in this nail salon are awesome. Went in for the first time with 6 people, we made appts in advance. It was Friday, they were super busy but still remained upbeat, positive and accommodated all of us. Gina who normally does my sisters nails did mine, she is so sweet. She helped pick out my nail color which was then copied by my sister and another customer. It was a big hit! Lol My grandmother came with us, the salon staff were all so professional and very kind to her. They assisted her walking across the salon to the pedicure station. One of the staff members even sat on the floor to help my grandmother put her shoes back on just so we wouldn't ruin our nails. Very welcoming and respectful. I will definitely be back!! read more

I made an appointment for a pedicure and acrylics. When I got there I was told only one service could be completed because they pose at 6:30pm when online it says they close 7:30/8pm ... my nails were atrocious so I decided to get those done instead of my pedi. Once she started my nails I could tell she was rushing which I disclosed because the shaping was coming out crooked, when I explained it was crooked she stated it was my fingers. Once I was adamant about it she removed the nail to start it over , then began to add some gel on top that started to BURN. After the 3rd nail I couldn't take the burn any longer I asked what this was & she stated that once I "get it again it would no longer burn" ok but WTF IS IT ? She says it's hard gel when I asked for acrylic because the hard gel is $90 as opposed to $65 acrylics... the price isn't the issue however, that's not what I asked for. The tech proceeded to say she doesn't know how to do acrylic, I asked why she would seat me if she couldn't do what I asked? She couldn't give me a response at first then said "if this isn't what you like I can't do your nails" I wasn't going to leave with one hand complete so I allowed her to finish these oven nails ... long story short she stated she won't charge me $90 only $70 .. 2/10 I wouldn't recommend unless going to another tech. This is what happened after exactly a week after I got them done. I'm not sure who exactly did my nails but it was the woman closest to the door. I asked her to fix the shape multiple times and I was met with complete disrespect and rudeness. For a $50 (plus tip) manicure, my nails should be holding up for more than a week. when the nail came off, the layers began unraveling AND NAIL POLISH was oozing out. I have been going to Viva nails for a few years now and this establishment has only gotten better throughout the years. I must say that they give the best pedicure that I have ever had. I moved to NJ a couple of years ago and still come back to Staten island for my gel Manicures and pedicures. I haven't found another salon that compares to this one both in quality long lasting gel manicures and a fabulous massage intensive pedicure. Whenever I get my nails done elsewhere (rarely) my polish does not last. At Viva it lasts at least two weeks. I highly recommend this salon. read more

Me and my two daughters made appts for gel Manis and regular pedis. When we walked in the girl called us by our names in the book for our appointments. But then it got weird. They suddenly didn't know how to deal with appointments. And our gel mains. As if they've never given anyone a gel mani before. Seemed very bizarre. My daughter was first. I had terrific experiences with manicures at Viva (I believe owned by 2 women). When the salon first opened, right after Hurricane Sandy, one of the owners gave me a blue "Viva Nail Free Pedicure Coupon". She wrote my name on the card and explained that because of the hurricane, they couldn't have their grand opening and she still had about 40 coupons to distribute. Since the coupon card had a printed "Valid through: Dec. 2, 2012" date on it, she scratched this out and told me there is no expiration date. She told me to tell all my friends. I made a morning pedicure appointment the week before Christmas. After entering, I presented the coupon card to the other owner, she said she couldn't accept it before the holiday, but I could use it in the new year. I glanced toward the back of the salon and all of the pedicure chairs were unoccupied so I thought that was strange. As I turned to leave, she asked me if I would like a pedicure! In other words, she wasn't giving any freebies, however she would be happy to service me as long as she made money. I said no thanks, left and contemplated never returning. Today, I went in with my daughter and we both had pedicures. It was relaxing, the massage was enjoyable, however the line on my daughter's French was not straight. I'm getting ready to pay and the front area of the store is in total disarray. Since no appointments are necessary on Sunday, there were people waiting in the front and in the back and this owner is telling incoming customers to pick a color after they asked her how long is the wait. As I'm ready to pay, I hand her my Viva Nail Free Pedicure coupon and she tells me I can't use it because it expired in March! You can't make this stuff up! As a business owner myself, I guess she doesn't believe in customer satisfaction. Don't give out complimentary cards to try to reel people into your store and then not honor the very coupon you gave out. Very poor business decision. There are a million nail salons on every corner. Used to be my go to nail spot but not so much anymore. Avoid. My finger nails were very natural and needed more shaping. I asked for round and to file them down and neither things were done. When I asked the nail tech if she could file them more since I was unhappy with the way they looked she said it was too late. just wanted to leave the entire time. Never again. This re-review is long overdue but worth the wait. When I had originally come here in 2013, this establishment was in dire need of a few changes. Although the pedicures were great, they were understaffed and the service toward customers was minimal. That being said, i have come here quite frequently over the past year and this re-review is to commend them for the changes made and their efforts in making an enjoyable experience to have a gel mani & pedi. The number of staff has grown quite significantly and they are much better with time management. The pedicures they used to offer has fresh pieces of aloe they would squeeze from the leaf and rub on your legs. Now, they use some lotion with aloe already in it (it must be more cost effective for them) but I must admit, I do miss that. But overall, these pedicures are worth the time. As for manicures, and gel mani's I have to admit, Viva Nails is one of the only places I have ever been to that the gel mani lasts AT LEAST 2-3 weeks! I myself am a nurse and are constantly washing my hands day in & out and I very rarely even chip them. They do great work, and if you like designs, Sandy is the go-to girl. She LOVES to try new designs and ideas and they always turn out great. Time management used to be a big issue as well. Customers used to wait around for lengthily amounts of time while waiting for the next service to be rendered, or the lack in customer service from staff toward clients. This too has made a big change. Overall Viva Nails has gone from 1 star to 4 stars for all their hard work in my opinion . Keep up the good work girls. Received a manicure there. Woman with short hair cut the cuticles very little. I told her they grow back very fast and asked her if she can cut them better and she was immediately annoyed. She then went on to cut my finger and I was bleeding and no apology was offered.. all because I asked for her to cut the cuticles a little more. Not worth the 10 dollar manicure. If a sorry was provided, this review wouldn't have happened. After starting to tell several coworkers about my experience, they cut me off and said " was it the woman with the short hair?" Apparently she is known to not be friendly. There are 15 other nail salons in the area. I will be going to those instead. read more

Had to re review this place. I came here on a Friday afternoon (with an appointment) was seen exactly on time. I got my gel manicure first and then my pedi. My pedi- oh my god ... It was absolute heaven. At first I thought the girl didn't know what she was doing then I realized she was taking her time and massages me like 100 times. It was hands down the best pedi in my life ! I won't give her name away because that's my little secret ! Lol! But if you get her you'll figure it out. All the girls are awesome here but I found my favorite ! Love this place ! This review is long over due! Best place for pedicures! Most places don't take their time on your feet or massaging you anymore but not this place. I always getting a pedicure & gel manicure when I go & the pedicures are simply the best. Other places massage your feet & legs for 2mins but this place takes there time & it's very relaxing. It's pretty clean & I switch technicians all the time & have not had a bad one yet & I have been going bi weekly for a year. The only thing is that the parking lot is so small & there is never parking so I usually have to walk a block or so but that's my laziness complaining & it doesn't stop me from going that's for sure read more

Not worth it. With a nail salon in just about every shopping plaza you can find yourself better. I be been here roughly a dozen times because it's my friend's pick being up the block from her house. Each time I go home disappointed and yesterday was no different. Yesterday I got a regular mani pedi. Whatever clear coat they put on did not dry. I sat at the dryers for 10min, got a pedicure and then when I grabbed my keys in the car a smudge. Too exhausted to go back in I left. 5, yes 5!, hours later I'm at home on the couch and notice that the imprint of my couch pressed into my nails and this morning 16hrs later I woke up with all 10 fingers ruined with the press of my sheets into them. I'm convinced she put a top coat that was meant for gel, why else would I have the never drying nails. Either way manicure ruined and money down the drain. I could do a better job myself and will. The store has a no refund policy but they'll redo anything you don't like. I'm not going to drive back in from NJ to have them redo their same crappy manicure. Won't waste my time. Needless to say I'll NEVER go back. This was the final straw for me. Other examples of poor experiences include crooked nails- don't know why it's hard to file straight, severely cut to the bleeding point of my cuticles, bubbles in gel manicure because they rush (this leads to peeling)- not talking one or two here this was enough to look like I was going for an under the sea design in each nail, and they don't pumice the edge of your feel only straight across the middle leaving your heels looking dry. For the record my friend has shared in her dissatisfaction with this place but I guess walking distance convenience outweighs the bad at times, for me certainly not worth it and I would not recommend. Their are far better places on Staten Island please don't waste your time or money here. read more

I decided to try this place out because it's right up the block from me and it seemed to have decent reviews. Made an appointment for that day and got seen pretty much on time. That and the, I assume, owner were the only good things I have to say about this place. I went in to get acrylic. On the phone she said something about them not using acrylic and that they use some crystal stuff and of course it was more expensive. The lady who did my nails did not clean beneath my natural or trim them down. I asked her to make the edges sharp bc that's how I like them. She rounded them out but whatever. They ended up fine and with the help of the supposed owner I got a very nice design. That was exactly one week and two days ago. This morning I got my pants out of my drawer and my pinky comes back out naked. I spent about $65 and just a week and a nail clean came off. Not broke or cracked. Just gone. Very very disappointed. Terrible customer service. Rushed through and finished my manicure in less than 15 min, with getting up and answering the phones in between. Kept resting my arm on a UV gel manicure dryer that was hot from the previous customer and kept ignoring me when I said I was getting burned. She kept forcing my arm back on the hot surface. When I arrived I asked if a design could be done and she told me no, and made me feel pretty stupid for asking. Right before she polished I asked again about the design (which was just a few black lines on 1 finger) and she said now that yes shell do it but I have to pay $10 more. Normally I don't mind paying more for extra service, but I could tell it would be rushed and sloppy just like my entire manicure had been. When I said forget the design, she kept trying to insist and asking for $10. Friends of mine have go here and get elaborate designs so I'm not sure what the problem was- then when she sped through my regular manicure and kept ignoring me for customers walking in or the phone, I knew she was just too busy and wanted to rush me out so she can get another customer in my chair. I would have been much happier if they would have told me to come back later when I first walked in then to be treated with no respect and get a rushed, sloppy job. read more

I love this place and I go every two weeks for a gel manicure. Everyone is great EXCEPT for one girl who stinks. She didn't do what I asked and I left with more polish on my fingers than my nails. She also filed my skin till it bled. Coughed all over my hands which is rude if you are sick don't go to work!! and she was so rough it was TERRIBLE. She had to redo a couple nails too because she did them wrong in the first place. I came in at 5 and didn't leave until 7. Love this place and almost all the women give really great manicures but don't go to the women with the long brunette hair. Ask for sunny she's wonderful. read more

Of deliberation in their language and I asked them to speak English so I could understand but they didn't they finally realized they where wrong.
