I cannot say enough good things about Jean-Luc and team. I have never seen a group in this industry (landscape, gardening etc.) work as hard as Jean-Luc's team did. I had a few trees that needed removed as well as some clean-up of trees touching my house (and other tree rotting issues leading to spider infestations and mosquito infestations). Jean Luc is extremely knowledgeable about tree types and in general made me feel at ease about leaving the majority of my trees alone - meaning I only needed to clear a few to ensure the growth and vitality of the others. We also discussed soil drainage, roots, and erosion when discussing my tree concerns. His team worked for two days straight as per the invoice and estimate and I am extremely pleased with the work done. I don't think I'll need to have him come again anytime soon, because again he's super knowledgeable about trees and knew exactly what to do with them to ensure healthy trees that wont need to be messed with for years to come. I am very satisfied with their service. I have a cypress at the front yard, there are a few lower branches and broken branches needed to be removed and a maple tree overgrew above the roof. The scheduling for estimate and service was done online /by email, the process is convenient; and they were very responsive and arrived on time. After 2 1/2 years of Long Covid, and old age setting in, I can no longer be a doityourselfer. I bet I contacted 30 contractors this year for chimney re-tucking, tree trimming, gutter cleaning, junk removal and landscaping. What a joke!! Most don't even get back, if they do, most won't come out, if they do, you are lucky to get a quote! These guys are pros. We used them to remove a very large 85-year old cedar tree, and they took care of us at each step in the process. The estimate was reasonable, right in the middle of the ones we received. They took care of the permit process, which took a few months and required a second trip to send more detailed photos and analysis. They were honest, timely, and had great communication. They answered every question and gave me honest feedback about the tree. They also truly love what they do, and do it masterfully. The tree was in a tricky place in our yard because it was surrounded by vegetation. They expertly used rigging and cables to remove the branches and then the trunk. This tree was big enough that it took two days. They cut up the tree into rounds, but also found artists to re-purpose parts of the trunk. It made me very happy to know that the tree would "live on" in some other way (besides firewood). My neighbors where impressed with their professionalism and expertise. It was pretty amazing to watch them take down the tree. Every branch was roped down (like a zip line), and the trunk was attached to a cable to remove safely. Very trustworthy team. We received 3 quotes, and Vitalitree gave us the lowest. We went with them because of all the great reviews, and I'm glad we did. They arrived on time, prepared, and worked quickly. They obviously knew what they were doing, and used all the proper safety equipment. I had one company tell me my garden would basically be ruined, but somehow Vitalitree was able to keep everything intact, even my sprawling pumpkin patch. They chopped down 3 dead cedars, one dying dogwood, and trimmed back a cedar and hawthorne that was giving our roof some trouble. Couldn't be happier with their service. Jake and his team from VitalTree did an amazing job clearing out 2 tall, slanted Pine trees from our back yard. They safely climbed, trimmed, and removed the tree by sections, carefully dropping each part to avoid the fence, outdoor fireplace, and concrete patio below. After reviewing the estimate, I called the office and scheduled the service for February 1st. The crew showed up unannounced on Jan. 20th when I was not home. They did everything requested, but just as other reviewers have commented, their clean up was sloppy. And, they left both backyard gates propped open--glad we caught this before we let the dog out! read more

I had a mixed experience. I had a blue atlas cedar removed that 50 years ago was planted too close to the house (and on top of our sewer line). The estimate was $1750 with $150 to grind the stump. On the plus side they came the day indicated and did the job, leaving chips as my neighbor requested. On the down side, I wish they had indicated that I would have no garden left in a 15 foot radius around the tree afterwards. Hellebores, ferns, etc. were pounded into the ground. I would have moved them aside had I known (I thought they were far enough from harm's way, but no). They left and later sent a bill for $1750. I emailed asking about the stump grinding, and should we set up an appointment for that? Rather than respond, someone showed up unannounced at some point later in the week to do it. So, they got the job done, but communication didn't seem to be a strong point. read more

Unfortunately the service I received did not match the raving reviews for this company. I had a large maple removed, a small spruce removed and a cedar trimmed. I had asked to have the wood chips left in the front yard - during the appraisal I was told that would be fine. When I came home I had no wood chips and cedar had barely any limbs removed. I contacted the arborist and he said he would come that week to trim some more limbs and leave wood chips. Three weeks later I was told that some would be delivered - but it wouldn't be in the front yard. That would be an additional charge. A lot of very unprofessional communication followed - blaming me for causing the personnel to lose money and time. Jean-Luc offered to trim some more branches and leave wood chips but I did not want anybody from Vitalitree on my property without me present. I felt as a customer my business was not valued (my total services were around $2000) - I was treated very poorly and will have any further work done by a different company. read more

Update 6/8/2015: TL;DR version: I believe in second chances when someone owns up to a mistake and makes an honest effort to make things right (and does so in a professional and courteous manner). Jean-Luc also had the best priced offer and the other reviews on his work are great; I'll update after the work is scheduled and completed. Long version: On 6/2/2015, I get a call from Jean-Luc. He is honestly concerned about the review I left and wanted to talk about it. Bonus points - he asked if it was a good time to talk. He mentions that he sent the estimate the morning he was over, as well as when I asked for it a week later. He admits that he should have followed up sooner with a phone call. It's a pleasant exchange and I ask him to re-send the estimate so I can double-check my junk mail folder when I get home - regardless I'll email him as to whether I get the estimate or not. Moments later I get a text, and an email with the estimate, plus an apology and explanation about how he has tracked down what went wrong - autocomplete put in the wrong email (both times) and with no delivery error he had no idea it went to the wrong place. I guess the "reply" button doesn't work with how he sends estimates, but I do have the estimate and it's the best one compared to others. I appreciate that he mentions what he could have done differently to prevent this and how to prevent it from happening again with other clients. And he makes an offer to do what he needs to make things right with me. I reply that I'll get back to him once I touch base with my neighbor (one of the trees is on the property line). 6/7 I finally am able to catch my neighbor and discuss moving forward with tree work, and 6/8 I can touch base with Jean-Luc to schedule. We're all adults here and I appreciate the honest effort to correct a mistake, so the least I can do is provide the opportunity to do so, right? read more
