During my appointment, the dr made it clear that it was unacceptable to not have an eye exam every year. That's fine, the dentist tells me to floss every day, and my hair stylist tells me to stop using the flat iron. But her attitude during the whole appointment was really condescending and uncomfortable, because she wouldn't let it go. Fast forward to now - I can't reorder contact lenses because she didn't give me refills. I've worn contacts for 15 years, and this is the first expiring prescription I've had where the doctor wouldn't give me refills even for a 6 pack of lenses. What really gets my goat is that I have actually had an eye exam, due to a different eye issue, within the past 6 months with an ophthalmologist instead of at this location - still no refill script. I'll go for an eye exam now out of necessity, but it won't be at this location. read more

I came here for contacts...I can't drive at night with my glasses on so I have an old pair of frames that have held up nicely since my sophmore year of college. Anywho, I don't have vision insurance and I purchased the yelp deal and presented at the time of the appointment. I had a bit of a hard time finding parking but I called the business and they were very understanding and offered suggestions as to where to park. When I arrived the lady at the front was very pleasant and helpful and when I did my eye exam my dr answered all of my questions (I ask a lot of questions). All in all everything was a okay, no complaints here and I'll more than likely go back next year for my eye exam as well. read more

I arrived early to my appointment and I was greeted by everyone. They saw me early which was nice some places would have made you wait. The Dr. took her time with me and answered all of my questions. I didn't feel rushed and other places they rush you through. It was a bit pricey but I have that motto you get what you pay for. My only recommendation would probably give patients an estimate of the visit before hand so they could prepare themselves. I work at medical place and we are fee for services as well....so I didn't mind. SInce the sales associate helped me pick out the cutest glasses and I know I made her work that day. As picky as I am. I just had my exam this morning and I was pleasantly surprised. I don't currently have glasses/contacts, but I like to get my eyes checked every year just for general health. Additionally, I have a desk job that causes me to be on the computer 8+ hours a day and I was considering some computer glasses to reduce eye strain. I chose this optometrist because it was covered by my vision insurance provider, was close to my office, and the reviews seemed overall positive. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by the employees who made me feel very welcome and comfortable. The doctor (Sara) was very friendly, thorough, and explained the entire process/results. You could really tell that she was taking the time to conduct an accurate exam and not simply trying to rush you out. Last year I had my eye exam done at MyEyeDr and my experience today at Visual Health was far more enjoyable and less stressful. At MyEyeDr, the treatment felt cold and impersonal, and I felt pressured to make a purchase immediately after my appointment. When I turned down making a purchase on the spot, their reaction made me feel uncomfortable and they did not offer to give me my prescription at all even though I had paid for the exam. At Visual Health, the treatment was much more personal and comprehensive. Best of all, I was not pressured into making a purchase (although the salesman was busy with a customer when my appointment ended so maybe I won't be so lucky the next time). At the end of the appointment Sara asked me if I would like to shop around for frames, but I had to get back to work and I like to take my time to shop around for options. No problem! The assistant checked me out and handed me my prescription and I was on my way. Phew. I would definitely come again next year for my annual checkup. The only complaint I have is that I was not seen immediately at the time my appointment was scheduled and had to wait 10 minutes or so. However, once I was seen by Sara I could understand how she ran slightly over with some of the exams. She likes to be thorough with her patients and address any/all concerns. I was visiting family and my glasses snapped on the airplane ride over. My brother referred this place and I decided to go ahead and get my yearly checkup. Walked in and was greeted with a friendly welcome. A lady did my "prescreening" work (ie. the machine that blows air into your eyes, etc). Then was called to the room by Dr. Du. He did a thorough job on checking my eyes and even answered all my questions. I am kind of disappointed that my vision got worse, but i can see a lot more clearer now. He gave me a pair of contacts so it could last the rest of my trip. I purchased a frame, but decided to get the lens when I return back home since I was only there for a few days. Showed up for a 10AM appt and absolutely no one was in the office. Lights were dark and doors were locked. I waited for 20 minutes and still no one, so I thought they were closed. Another woman showed up while I was waiting also and couldn't figure out why they seemed closed - no notes on the door and several confirmation emails. Then I receive an email next day that I MISSED my appointment....so called them and only explanation I was provided was that the employee working "may have stepped out"...at the time of my appointment? I asked why didn't I get a call the cancelation? EM the front desk guy said he'd called my number around 9ish am that morning but didn't leave a v/m. WTF! What rational & responsible person in the medical field would do that? I suspected this was a malicious act of getting back at me for not purchase their eye wares when saw last year. While the Optometrist was professional and friendly, billing was another story. Was told that with the purchase of a years supply of contacts I would receive a free pair of glasses, and we agreed that I would select the new frames once my contacts were in and ready for pickup. When I came back that magically changed to 20-50 percent off. The sales people talked in circles and contradicted themselves and honestly seemed to be making things up on the spot, despite my receipt and paperwork...would not recommend and changing doctors as a result. read more

We just had the great experience of going to the Herndon office. From the moment of making an appointment we were greeted with energy and it was so easy to make an appointment. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. She even called us a few days later to offer an earlier appointment. When my daughter came for her appointment for contacts and glasses, she was treated respectfully and they took great care of her. Her contacts and glasses came super quick! We were notified right away via text and a phone call! When she picked up her glasses and contacts, she was helped right away and the receptionist remembered who she was immediately by first name. The receptionist also was so helpful in navigating the rebates and how to submit them and did not hesitate to offer her assistance. We are SOOOOOO happy we switched from Vision Works!! Absolute rip off! I wasn't even there for 30 minutes for what they called an eye exam, just to tell me my glasses I have now are "fine" Dr had me try in new contacts with no information and charged me $150 for a contact fitting!! They said I could have a week to try on the contacts and see if I like them and if I do they would order the contacts. They then charged me $750 for contacts that I didn't even know if I wanted!!! I'm giving two stars because Dr. DeSando was extremely professional, thorough, and helpful. However, I cannot recommend coming here if you don't want to be ripped off. I was told after my appointment that if I placed an order for a years supply of contacts ($640), with the rebate the price would be $340. I decided to go ahead and order there because of this. Later I call to confirm my order and am told that I will only get 1 rebate for $150 off. This is after I have already paid $640! I go to pick up my contacts and ask for the rebate and they are all out. The girl at the front desk says she will email me a rebate. I receive the rebate soon after and the code doesn't work! What they don't tell about you is all the add ons, even if you mention the coupon when you make the appointment and again when you arrive. I ended up spending $219.00 instead of the $99.00. I was in town visiting a few friends and needed to see an optometrist. My glasses had been ruined because of poor craftsmanship. How I found out is below I wouldn't have known this until I walked into Visual Health Doctors. Dr. Du was the optometrist and immediately could tell that my glasses had inferior coating. I was amazed that within first glance he could tell right away. This only told me that this guy knew what he was doing and knew the in's and out's of lenses and crafting lenses. While I was there, he managed to go ahead and get me an eye exam. I was in and out within 30 minutes. He did a couple tests that my previous optometrist never did before. Very professional and efficient. Thank Dr. Du for being very efficient and professional. I highly recommend this practice and Dr. John Du to anyone. PS. The review written by S.B is a load of hogwash and trash. They went to school for 4 extra years to know how the eyes work and they can easily diagnose you based on your eyes just like a physician can usually diagnose you based off your body's condition. read more

I'm not a fan of the strict requirement of an annual exam to get contacts refilled. It feels like a scam to then also be charged $69 for a contacts exam on top of the eye exam fee. I asked what this was and they attribute it to "billing codes" but I am not even using insurance. I'm looking into other ways to order contacts in the future. read more

I switched to this practice because they have great hours and super convenient location. When I arrived for my appointment, Dr. John Du asked me why I had come in, to which I responded that I wanted to make sure my eyes are healthy. (I have horrible vision and a type of cancer that impacts vision so I am super careful to ensure my eyes are healthy). Nonetheless, he updated my contacts and glasses and that was the end of the appointment. Based on my experience, one cannot confirm healthy eyes in twenty minutes! I asked him why he had not dilated my pupils and he responded that it was not necessary. He should have said, "dilating your pupils will keep me from my (more interesting) evening plans." I should also note that he recommended contacts which are double the cost of my current contacts. I asked him to explain to me the difference between the two brands to which he responded that the new contacts "use better technology." I asked what that meant and he couldn't provide a response. So, either he is not knowledgeable about the products he is suggesting or thinks I am not capable of understanding his response. In either case, I am disappointed. I recently provided feedback to the office manager who listened to my complaints patiently and rescheduled me for free appointment with another doctor in the practice to complete my eye exam. Here's hoping that my new doctor will be more focused on patient care. So, don't write off the practice altogether, just make sure you don't see Dr. Du! Update 9/9/13 - FIVE STARS FOR DR. PATEL: I complained to the office manager about my abhorrent experience with Dr. Du. She apologized profusely and offered me a free appointment with their best doctor, Dr. Patel. Again, I have cancer and need to take good care of my eyes. It was therefore really important that my eyes be closely examined. I was nervous that as a result of Dr. Du's haste, something had been missed. I accepted the offer to meet with Dr. Patel and I was so pleased. I explained to her that I had cancer and needed her to closely look at my eyes to which she replied that in my case a dilation of my pupils is an absolute must. (Again, why Dr. Du didn't know this after his extensive professional schooling is beyond me). Dr. Patel answered all my questions, was was super friendly. I have recommended all my NOVA friends and family to see her and hope that you will do!!! read more

I actually have had good experience with the doctors and the staff here; however, I have now sent five emails over the past month and half that have not received a response. I have called, and called, and called - and while I did receive one return call (after I left at least 3 messages) - when I returned that call, at noon on a weekday - no answer, and the voicemail box is full. So I called and called and called again. and finally have just given up. So apparently if you want to contact them - good luck! I even called one of their other locations to see if they could get in touch with this office for me. and still, nothing. So I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I have to start by saying, the optometrist is friendly, approachable and knowledgable. However, the salesman (male) was extremely pushy and rude. I understand you want to sell your products, but instead you're pushing your customers away by constantly nagging them to buy something. He didn't even try to sell the products in a positive manner. I wasn't even in the store to buy anything or for an appointment, I was there with my boyfriend so he could pick out glasses. Just from hearing the salesman from the waiting area, I got annoyed. When you're expecting to pay $200 max and the salesman gets frustrated when you don't want the most expensive frames in the store, is a turn off. Fantastic place to go if you need glasses. I needed new glasses since my prescription changed too include a new pair of sunglasses. First off, they are very friendly and extremely helpful. They have average prices for both glasses and sunglasses. They may be slacking on the big name brands you are looking for, but they do care some. I wasn't pressured to buy the most expensive thing in the store nor was I given the cheap option either. My only gripe would be the size of the room. It is a little on the small side. They have 2 areas where they can help customers so there might be some wait time if you are not being helped. Overall, still a great place to go. read more

Came in here for an eye exam mid-summer and found the experience to be very smooth and the folks to be very professional. I was especially impressed with the front desk gal who did my pre-work up. She very obviously knew what she was doing and was also super spunky. The doctor who saw me was very gentle and calming, seemed like a genuinely nice person who listened to all my issues. He gave me a trial pair of contacts that didn't work out to well for me so I called back a month later, spoke to that same spunky assistant and she got me all squared away. Wow - this experience was amazing compared to my former optometrist in Courthouse. I saw Dr. Sara Varghai across the last two years and was incredibly impressed with her genuine care in my eye care. I will definitely go back here. I called first to confirm the Yelp coupon (paid $20 for $60 value - enough for an exam) and was told that I could have the eye exam and leave with my Rx to order my glasses online. When I got there, I asked again about the coupon and again it was confirmed that I would have to pay nothing and could leave with the Rx. The staff were very nice about my inquiry and didn't try to dissuade me from ordering online or betray any attitude of disapproval to my thriftiness. The Dr. who performed the testing, Dr. Patel, could not have been nicer or more thorough. She took the time to fully explain what she was doing, why she was doing it and I learned some valuable information about one of my health issues that I hadn't known was relevant to my eye health. She tailored 2 Rx's for my needs, and gave me the option of combining another Rx should I opt for bi-focals. The front office staff were all affable and helpful, the environment clean and friendly. I ordered one pair of glasses on line and when I entered the Rx for the 2nd pair, the online company's system refused to continue as the Rx was 'unusual'. I called the Vis. Nice Reception: I called about making an appointment for an eye exam for contacts and glasses, and spoke to Kat. She was awesome- super friendly and professional. Professional Eye exam: When I went in for the exam, I found the store to be clean, comfortable, and everyone to be just as friendly as they were over the phone. I didn't have to wait, went right in for my exam with Dr. Du. The eye exam was thorough but painless. I was out of there pretty quickly, with a free trial pair of contacts. Good Deal (and a good deal more): When it came time to check out, the original receptionist double checked to make sure I was getting the best deal I could. It saved me a chunk of money, and made me feel I was in good hands. Quality Product: The contacts I ordered from them arrived when they said they would, and have been great. They convinced me to go from 2-week disposables to one month contacts, and I'm glad I listened. I also ended up purchasing a great pair of frames that Visual Health equipped with the best lenses they have. I have received endless compliments on them, and I can tell the lenses and frames are great quality. I'm picky and expect a lot when it comes to contacts, glasses, eye exams, and good service. These guys were shysters (at least to me), and they have some things they need to work out before I'd recommend anyone go there. They sent me multiple wrong appointment time "confirmations" via email and phone call: the first time I showed up the wrong time (thanks to their "confirmations" I showed up too late and my original appointment time was gone) and for the second appointment I scheduled, they sent me an email and called my phone to "confirm" my appointment and again they both had different times from what I originally scheduled (one was 30 minutes before, one was 30 minutes after the appointment I had booked) so I had to call them to sort that out. When it came time to pay, I reminded them that they had sent me an email with a $59 promotion for a regular eye exam with a free pair of sunglasses but they wouldn't honor that deal. Apparently, even though I had called ahead of time to check if this deal would be valid for a contact lens checkup (and they had said yes) they wouldn't be honoring it for me. Ok, so at least I'll get some free sunglasses, right? Nope, they're out of sunglasses that they can offer the deal too (except a pair of women's that were tiny on my face that they handed me)... why would you email me this promotion if you don't have any sunglasses to give out? And why would you make such a big deal of the $59 deal and mislead people when they call if it extends to contact lenses. Now I have a $125 bill on my hands (I'm paying out of pocket) and I'm not too happy, I originally thought this was going to be $59 and I might even get a pair of cheap sunglasses out of it. To top it all off, the dude at the front counter is going to "help me out" and charge me for a year's worth of contact lenses in the brand he apparently knows I use. I told him I wasn't sure if I would use the two week or one day version and I wanted to think about it, but he said he'd happily charge me now and I could pay the difference later if I wanted to get something more expensive... no thanks. They said I could come back and collect the sunglasses later when they had stock, but they don't know when that will be. I didn't think that getting my eyes checked up (and being given pretty much the same prescription that I had two years ago) could be such a hassle, but these guys made that happen. read more

The associate, Kat, was extremely friendly and helpful. She gave me a run-down of their selection, made some suggestions for frames, and then let me browse uninterrupted. Once I had narrowed it down, she was very helpful in helping me making a final decision. She also clearly explained the options for lenses without being pushy. After a long, depressing week I would've never thought coming into an eye doctor's office would help cheer me up. The lovely ladies of Visual Health were very welcoming and helpful, especially very pretty lady came to my rescue after I stumbled in confused and disoriented. The doctor and saleslady were both straightforward. The only thing that nags me with eye doctors and other healthcare professionals is what I call the "car salesman sales approach." They did not try to use cheesy jokes to get me to buy anything. Instead, I was one the making the bad jokes. They smiled but I like to think they were laughing inside. I am most definitely going to make this my primary eye doctor. If the head doctor is smart enough to hire a great Saturday staff, then I'm sure he's great as well. This was my first time going to the eye doctor in like 8 years. The front desk lady was super friendly and helpful, also I arrived like 40mins early and they took me early which was awesome. The doctor was friendly and explanatory about the condition of my eyes. Then I had to pick out new glasses, and that lady was patient with me when I was being very picky about what frames I was going to choose. I ended up picking something out.
