Please avoid this place. SCAM warning!!!!!!! I brought in my own frame that I had not used in a while and wanted to reuse just to get simple, non-prescription black sunglass lenses. An Indian lady added a bunch of options, bringing the total to a ridiculous $500. Who pays $500 for non-prescription lenses when the frame isn't even included?????!!! I refused and told her to remove the unnecessary extras because I only wanted BASIC BLACK SUNGLASS!!! (I told her so many times that I just wanted basic black sunglasses! lol) She insisted that I still needed an anti-reflective and anti-fog coating, so I agreed to pay an extra $90 for that, bringing the adjusted total to $250. still so expensive... Guess what I actually got? SHE REMOVED THE TINT ENTIRELY, and I ended up with CLEAR glass???!!! So Crazy!!! And, I have no idea why she would even recommend an anti-reflective coating on a non-prescription, clear lens after she removed the tint. lol.. Does this woman completely lack common sense? Does she not know the basic definition of a sunglass? Hey, the Indian lady!!! Sunglasses have a tint!!!!!!!! She completely confused the order by adding SO MANY UNNECESSARY OPTIONS, and now she is blaming me and yelling at me, claiming that I miscommunicated. lol To make matters worse, when my friend and I confronted her about the mistake, she was incredibly rude, took zero accountability, and actually yelled at us, claiming I miscommunicated. The people working there were completely shocked. This behavior is entirely unacceptable!!!!!!! *Updates: I looked at my receipt, and she added prescription lenses. She did exact opposite what I wanted. (If she did that, she normally should have asked for my insurance, right? She did not ask at all..) Anyway... This place will upsell you on various treatments for your glasses. They do not disclose issues with these treatments. I was sold a protective glare treatment that deteriorated over time and made the glasses unusable. The cost of these treatments is quite expensive and not worth it since they don't last. The customer service for issues like this is very poor at the store and corporate level. I would not recommend this company for glasses. read more

Dr. Ward is very detail oriented. She listened to and understood my concerns. She made excellent prescriptions and suggestions (including drops for dry eye; they even had a test for dry eye to rule out inflammation--I never got this test at any other eye doctor's). Dr. Ward discussed various options for contact lenses that are realistic and meets my needs (no need for 20/20 vision). This branch (at Clarendon, near Whole Foods) is big and very spacious, with lots of frames on offer. They seem well staffed (multiple desks open). Very Unprofessional and Untrustworthy! I recently had a very unfortunate experience with the manager, Bill, at the MyEyeDr in Clarendon, VA. After my exam, I sat down with Bill who was very aggressive at trying to sell me new contact lenses. I explained to him that I didn't feel comfortable buying contact lenses, as I hadn't worn them in 20 years due to medical issues. He kept trying to upsell me a years' supply of contact lenses, emphasizing that it was cheaper in the long run to buy in bulk, and that I could always return them. I kept expressing my hesitation, but after Bill referenced the return policy 4+ times, I ended up buying a months' supply of contact lenses (after he continued trying to sell me a years' worth supply). We agreed that I would try out the 1-week supply of temporary contact lenses, while I wait for the 1-month supply to ship to me (knowing that I could always return them). After a week of using the temporary lenses, I decided contact lenses weren't for me. I went back to the store to return the contact lenses, boxes still sealed. Bill was at the store, so I spoke with him. He became very confrontational and emphatically argued that he never said contact lenses could be returned. He said they can only 'exchange' contact lenses. This was a lie!! MyEyeDr. has a very clear return policy! Instead of arguing with Bill, I left and went to the Ballston MyEyeDr. who processed my refund, no questions asked. Clearly Bill was dishonest if the same company down the street would provide a refund! I would strongly advise against anyone going to this store, and more importantly trusting the manager, Bill Lazarsceck. read more

I have been a patient at MyEyeDr for a couple of years now and I have always received great service. Recently I had an eye exam by Dr. Poulose and she did such a great job with updating me on my visual health. Being that I primarily work from home and have been since the pandemic, my eyeballs have been put through the ringer from computer-related work and long hours on the blue screen! And, being that I am both a contacts and eye glass wearer.....my eyesight seems to be all over the place these days and borderline "Mr. Magoo" mode. lol. I came here for my annual eye exam and had an outstanding experience with Dr. Palouse. The exam and prescription updates requested were done fast, prompt and efficiently. She also helped me resolved a few eye/vision concerns; including issues that stemmed from computer strain, dry-eye concerns and an issue from overuse of contacts wear. Yes, I came with a boat load of issues....two years worth to be exact....and they were all addressed. Being a very analytical, inquisitive guy who tends to ask doctors many questions, Dr. Poulose was patient and answer all my questions. I never felt rushed. She was great at diagnosing my issues, prescribing a course of action to correct the problems and explained important information at a level that I as a patients could clearly understand. The office is clean, bright and they have a great selection of glasses and eyewear to choose from. The staff, although friendly, I must admit their competence can be a hit or miss at times (e.g. an appointment screw ups, a billing mishap, etc.).....but in all decent customer service in the my times coming here. Besides this, I would recommend this location and Dr. Poulose for your eye care needs for sure. read more

Terrible. Unreliable. Unprofessional. Stay away. Poorly run operation. It started the moment I booked an appointment online and arrived to the store to be told there was no such booking. Messed up two eyeglasses prescriptions. The first one was not measured correctly and the lenses had to be re-ordered. Almost three weeks later, I have no lenses. I called and was put on hold over 20 minutes. The manager did not have answers and told me to shut up because he "would not be able to find out what happened while talking to me on the phone." The second prescription: the order to the lab was made incorrectly. I get an email that the eyeglasses are ready. I come in only to be told that there was no one who could help me. I came back later in the day and was told that the lens was re-ordered because it was incorrectly ordered. The manager calls me and tells me that the size of the lens was off and that he would call me when the new lenses would be ready. No call. I got an email saying that the lens was ready, but I ignored that because those emails are evidently not monitored by the store. I booked an appointment for 4:20pm as that was the latest available time. I received a text confirmation and reminder for 4:20pm. When I arrived, the receptionist insisted that the appointment was for 4:00pm and that they would not be able to see me at all that day because the rest of the afternoon/evening was already full with walk-ins. Apparently they had called me to confirm my appointment and I was expected to pick up any call from any random number in these days of innumerable Robocalls AND to listen to whatever voicemail they say they left by assuming it's not a Robocall voicemail as usual AND on top of all that go to the trouble of actually calling them back to confirm the appointment that I just made personally! So what's the point in making online booking available if they're still going to want a patient to call in? The whole point of online booking is that it's more convenient to book that way. I have been going to the eye doctor my entire life since I've always had extremely low vision but this has been the most amazing experience I've EVER had. From the customer service, to the prep before my actual eye exam, to my actual eye exam I'm still so impressed. I thought I knew everything to expect from going to the eye doctor but this time I was offered such extensive testing I was shocked. THEN when I got to Dr. Chowhans chair I was blown away! She was so knowledgeable and detailed in my exam and explaining the condition of my eyes and steps for preventative care. Things I thought were normal since my eye sight were so low she provided solutions for and I left there with new prescriptions, contacts and it felt like I had new eyes too (haha). She made sure I was comfortable and understood everything. I've never been offered such a thorough experience. On top of all that she was so nice and kind it was such a personable experience , when it usually just feel like a routine stop for the eye doctor. I accidentally booked this location and although it was 40 minutes away from me I will gladly take this trip for my exam every time. 20/10 doctor!! She deserves all her flowers!!! read more

Really poor customer service. They completely messed up my glasses by ordering the wrong size lens and tried to explain that this is how they were supposed to be. They finally fixed them, but the glasses were scratched and I had to go back several times and argue that the glasses were not supposed to have that size lens. After going back and forth between this location and the one in Ballston (weirdly, an employee at this location told me not to go to the Ballston location as it did not provide good service), it was such a headache and I had spent so much money that they let me pick out a free pair of glasses, which was nice but I would have rather avoided the headache. It's been almost three years and they still leave me messages telling me to come in for my annual exam, but I would never go back there. read more

I booked my appointment online. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any paperwork in advance so I had to complete it in office. My exam was thorough and the doctor was quite pleasant. Their customer service was phenomenal. I truly enjoyed my experience. Sadly, their eyeglasses were obscenely expensive. I'm having second thoughts about my purchase as others have told me I paid way too much for glasses that won't be ready for 2 weeks! I need to see now, not in two weeks. I usually go to Lenscrafters but I wanted to try something else. I have no issues with their service, they were exceptional. My only tiny complaint is that no one gave me my prescription and now I have to go back and request copies. I'd recommend them for exams but purchase your glasses elsewhere. They have a lovely selection but they are just too expensive (and I have insurance!) read more

Stay away!!! It's overpriced and they have awful customer service. From not being able to sit down while I tried on glasses to not being able to leave with a copy of my prescrip. Also, the Chanel glasses I got here had the anti-reflective coating and in less than a year, it started to flake off. And I'm not rough with my glasses. Hello, they're Chanel. We are repeat customers of My Eye Dr, but I still give this place 3 stars. They do have a good selection of frames and the staff is nice and friendly - every one of them. But I always feel the pressure of overselling attitude of the sales people. I guess that is the way they do business, but I would rather go to a used car dealer for that kind of experience than come to My Eye Dr to buy glasses! They are pricey too if you buy in to any of their upsell lens options. read more

After sporting my Warby Parkers for a full seven months, I decided it was time to renew my contacts perscription. I have been a loyal fan of an optometrist out in Tysons Corner for almost a decade now but all of the Silver Line construction going on there has scared me away to making up a follow up appointment. I saw that there was a My Eye Dr in the Clarendon area after a weekend run to the ole' Crate and Barrel so I decided to make an appointment over the phone. The process was quick and easy and they were able to fit me in right away. After looking at the reviews of this place on Yelp, I am happy to say that it looks like they have improved on their customer relations on all fronts. Everyone I interacted with was polite, professional and lightening quick. I was in and out of the joint faster than you can say whachamacallit. What I really appreciated about my visit was how the salesperson at the end was willing to break down how my insurance worked and how it applied to my bottom line. I've NEVER been to a company that did that for me before so a big thumbs up for the customer education portion of our meeting. I agree with other Yelpers, they were a bit pushy about the eyeglass purchase portion of the transaction but when I told them I was set on the pair that I currently had I was quickly left alone. I'm blind as a bat... Thankfully, places like My Eye Dr. make my blind little life 1000x better. I booked my appointment last minute due to suddenly needing to use the rest of my insurance benefit before switching insurances after my move. I am so glad my insurance (United Healthcare) covers this practice. The day I came in was another fresh snow day in the midst of the 2014 DC Polar Vortex. I expected the office to be closed because of the weather like the rest of the snow wimps of DC (I'm from Nebraska, this is nothing ya'all). A quick phone call confirmed that they would be open but to just to come in a bit later to give the rest of the staff time to come in. I showed up 15 minutes early for my appointment. The receptionist was friendly and got me signed in right away. Next to her station is a refreshment center complete with bottled waters and a Kuerig with a great selection of teas & coffee. The waiting area, while a tad cramped, is very clean and has a TV for those that get bored. I also used the restroom during my visit and it was nice and clean. Here's what makes this a 5 star visit...THE STAFF! Dr. Santos was sooo much fun. He is not your average boring eye doctor at all...perhaps he once had a career as a comedian? Whatever, I laughed my entire visit! The exam was quick and painless, while Dr. Santos addressed my concerns, made sure nothing crazy was going on in my eyes (I was recently afflicted with a bad bout of conjunctivitis) and then escorted me to the lens order station, where he shared his cooking album! What?!!! An eye doc that can cook? I'm in love. His food presentation blows mine out of the water...ask him to see it when you go in! Next Tony handled my checkout and contact lens order. Ramon was sitting next to him and these guys together were so helpful and hilarious. They got me hooked up with some sexy and free (thanks to the Yelp check-in deal...AWESOME guys!!) sunglasses, a six month supply of lenses and some cleaners, solution and glasses case all complimentary as part of the visit. Both Tony & Ramon made sure I had a bottle of water while I was getting finished up, and was comfortable. It was actually like hanging out with old friends. Long over due review. My first experience with this location over a year ago was not great due to the customer service, my glasses taking two months to arrive, and the wrong lenses being ordered. But due to convenience and time I decided to give this location another chance..... anddddd here's how it went. After filling out the necessary paperwork for my eye exam, I was escorted to the back by the lady working the front desk so that I could complete the little eye tests they do before you meet with the DR. During the tests she tells me that my copay is going to be $XX amount which I thought was high for my insurance but still I agreed. One by one I moved down the line completing the tests. One test caught me off guard because it required a flash of light into my eye that I had never experienced before and I thought to myself, hmm...this must be new. Afterwards, I met with the DR. and she asked if I would like to see a picture of my eyes. I reply yes and that I don't think I've seen them before (this will make sense later)! When it was time for me to pay I was told by another lady (rude btw) that the copay would be $10 more than originally discussed. I kindly tell her that I was told otherwise in the test room and that I would like to know where the extra $10 came from. She pointed to the paper and told me that that the eye exam and health screening were separate charges and that having the screening increases the charges. I told her that I never asked for a health screening only an eye glass exam and that I did not know I had one done. She proceeds to tell me that that's what the pictures of my eyes were for. Again, not asked for. She then tells me she will go and speak with the lady who told me a different amount but that she had to help another customer! Like, what? She even tried to get me to pay before consulting with her colleague in which I informed her that it'd be best if I pay after everything was better explained. Her tone was rude and she briskly walked off to speak with her colleague and never returned. Thankfully, a lovely angel by the name of Goldie appeared in front of me to rectify the situation. She told me she handles insurance and explained to me the same charges that rude girl explained to me. I told her I understood what the charges were for NOW but that I did not agree to a health screening. I told her the money wasn't the issue but instead the fact I was never informed of the health screening, and that in the past I have been ASKED if I approved or declined the health check. I also told her when I signed the forms I only checked that I would like the eye glasses exam. *Side note, I'm not sure if it's actually called a health check but its whatever they do when they take a picture of your eye and check for glaucoma etc. Given my history, family history, I did not need it at that moment. Goldie was so kind and offered to take off the test and correct my charges. I told her I appreciated her help and that I would even be willing to pay the full charges to get it over with even though I was misinformed because I had already decided in my mind I would not be returning to this location. I just thought it would be beneficial for the office to know that the practices used by some of their techs may cause additional issues with other customers in the future. Unbeknownst to me, another customer was listening in to our conversation and chimed in. The customer told Goldie and I that the health check was was also performed on her without approval but that she didn't say anything because she was planning on getting it anyways. She also said that in the past she's always been asked by the person administering the tests. She made a good point about how not every insurance covers that type of exam and that they should implement better practices when informing patients of their treatment. Surprise bills aren't fun! I can't say I'm completely done with MyEyeDr because this is the only one I visited, but I will definitely not be returning to the Clarendon location..... read more

Extremely rude service. My appointment was for a basic eye exam. When making the appointment I was told that eye exam is the same for contact lenses. Now I am assuming that it's one charge for eye exam and contact lenses exam. I promptly arrive for my appointment and both eye exam and contact lenses exam are conducted. The doctor asked me if'd like to order any lenses and I told her I was not interested in doing so at the time. Now for the kicker. I get escorted to sit with this sales woman wearing a night club dress for "check out" to pay my copay. I should've known I could not expect professionalism from her just by the way she was dressed. Here she begins talking to me about types of frames etc that are in my "excellent insurance" I could purchase. I explained to her that at this time I only want to pick my prescription for eye and contact lenses. I'm not looking to purchase anything today. She asks why not..and I explained that I'd like to compare their prices with Warby Parker and other online options prior to making a decision there. This answer really rubbed her the wrong way. She laughed in sarcasm and kept repeating why I would buy Warby Parker when I could buy "Michael Kors". At this point, I am still reasoning with her- telling her how my husband just went with Warbys and loved it. I started to tell her how Warby does blue light and scratch coating at 0-to nothing price. BIG MISTAKE. She laughed at my face. Now I am very upset. I told her at this point please just give me my prescription and contact lenses measurements. (I have now been seated at the desk for 30 minutes going back and forth with this disrespectful woman). Now she FINALLY brings out the charges from my visit. There is a $10 copay for my eye exam and $60 copay for contact lenses and a 3rd charge for something called refraction? I'm not sure what the 3rd charge exactly was. So now I am agitated and I ask her how the 2 exams are charged separately because I was told it's the same exam. Without explaining in detail all the 3 charges she goes back to how this charge would go toward my frames had I purchased something. RED. At this point, my husband's waiting outside and I asked her if he can come in. Because frankly, I was really angry at the way she was treating me and I did not want to lose my cool. He comes in ask about charges and explanation and she gets all giggly with him and says "she's not understanding the charges I am explaining to her", like I am dumb. As this interaction with my husband is happening: all of a sudden the 2 documents (eye prescription and contact lenses measurements) I have been waiting for for about 40 minutes appear magically. We pay and leave. I was literally held captive to buy something and made to feel pressured and dumb because I was not using my "excellent" insurance. "I am rating this establishment one star because we scheduled two appointments here - one at 11am and one at 11:20am - and when we arrived MyeyeDr employees told us our appointments were not in their system. We made the appointments several weeks ago. We showed the employees the appointment confirmations we received from MyeyeDr via text. MyeyeDr employees also informed us the eye doctor we scheduled appointments with no longer works here-it would have been nice of them to have called us and told us ahead of time because we intentionally sought out that optometrist. Enjoyed a particularly good experience at MyEyeDr. in Clarendon. Somehow scratched and cut my right eye. Made an appointment. Max and the rest of the staff checked me in (comprehensive and thoughtful Covid precautions) and ran the basic diagnostics. Then Dr. M Yarzade examined my eyes. She checked my vision (I couldn't even read the top line on the chart w my right eye & was 20/20 w left eye). Used her scope to see two cuts on my right eye. She came up w a treatment plan. Started with antibiotic drops and a follow up. Came back a week later. Dr. Yarzada checked my vision (I could read the 2nd line of big letters w right eye). The cuts were healing. She put me on anti-inflammation drops plus moisturizing drops and a follow up. A week later Dr. Yarzada checked my vision. 20/20 with both eyes (I could read the bottom line). She nailed it. Nice clean and efficient office. Great experience. read more

After a 20-minute wait, I was shown into a room where the initial check-up was conducted by an employee wearing medical scrubs who then proceeded to urge me, quite insistently, to pay 30 extra dollars for some optical photos that would test for glaucoma and other conditions. I asked why these photos were not included in the standard check-up, since she made it sound as though critical conditions would go unseen without this "imaging service." I had my second lurch of aversion to this place when she immediately lowered the price to "19.99--today only" when I seemed hesitant. I declined, and went through my standard exam with the optometrist. Post-exam, I was led back into the storefront where, quite unwilling, I was shown to a counter to speak with one of these fast-talking salesmen. My rep proceeded to talk loops around me on my insurance terms and benefits, confusing me thoroughly with his nonsense spiel that did not add up, mathematically. I, in complete disgust at this point, declined his "offer" of eyeglasses and walked away with my basic 6-month supply of contact lenses. This goes from bad to worse--after declining his offer of eyeglasses, he had still communicated to my insurance company that I had "used up" my eyeglasses benefit, and after 3 prolonged calls with my insurance company and repeated and unwanted conversations with my chosen eyeglass purveyor, I finally realized that My Eye Doctor had incorrectly applied for this benefit on my behalf already. Yes, this place is conveniently located and always has an exam spot open. But don't be like me--trust your gut instinct. If you don't enjoy being talked down and around by condescending salesmen who take advantage of insurance loopholes to milk every cent out of you and the system (and yes, this is why our healthcare costs are unsustainable--the sheer scale and complexity of the healthcare laws and policies allow this type of misbehavior), then do not, please, patronize My Eye Doctor. read more

Oh good grief. The last time I went here, there was a mistake and it was handled well. This time, there were a series of mistakes, all handled poorly. Never, ever again will I return here and I urge others to stay away as well. I'll start with the positive: The actual doctors are very good. Quick, nice, and seem to have a good handle on the nuances of my (lack of) eyesight. I should also give a shout-out to Jordan, who was so nice and professional. The bad--front-of-store services. The place is often a zoo, and it's hard to get prompt attention. Any person on staff is able to service you, and that leads to mucho miscommunication. I think this is probably why their service suffers. And for my rant: I got a new prescription, but wanted to keep my frames, since they were only a year old and I liked them. After they put the new lenses in, it was obvious that those lenses weren't sitting properly. They were cut funny, and there was a gap between the lens and the frame. I ask about this, and am told that my prescription was too strong (lenses too thick) for the frame. Ummm...might you have told me this BEFORE you cut my lenses? They try to tell me they can fix the problem, and do try, but they make it worse. After several back-and-forths and four trips back to the store ("oh yes, come in right now, we'll fix it" only to find out they don't have a technician on hand), we finally agree that maybe they should have told me I needed new frames. DOH. At this point, I'm mildly annoyed but not too upset. So I kvetch that they've messed up and wasted quite a bit of my time with many return visits, the manager apologizes and actually tells me he wants to "turn my frown upside-down," and offers a new pair of frames on the house. I feel that's appropriate compensation for their screw ups, and come in again, this time with my husband, to help pick out new frames. After an exhaustive search, and being handed several frames by one technician, only to be told my prescription won't work in them, I settle on a frame. At which point the manager says slowly, "um, oh, let me look up the price on those, there's going to be a charge." WHAT? But I thought you offered me new frames on the house? Why didn't you tell me "on the house" meant only certain frames? "Oh, but these frames are worth way more than the ones we screwed up. It's going to be about $100." At which point, a heated, very public argument ensues. After all of this, you're going to quibble about $100? The manager (whose name I've chosen not to write here) is pushing back hard, and only after voices are raised and the whole store is staring at us does he back down. He says he needs to call the regional manager for approval, and is in the backroom for like 2 seconds before he returns and says OK. So finally, after one more return visit (for a total of 5 trips for one pair of glasses!), I have new frames and lenses. At which point, a new technician says that I need to leave my old pair there, as compensation for the new pair. What, are they going to resell them? Bizarre. The kicker for me is that if they have communicated effectively at any point in this process, they probably would have had my business again, as well as my money for two sets (the original w/ new lenses plus new frames and lenses). The last time I was there we had problems, but they were addressed properly and hey, these things happen...they get a pass for the first time, but after this experience, never, ever again. I went to this eyeglasses place for a basic checkup and prescription contacts. My appointment went fine (the upsell on the glaucoma photos? whatever, I'm 25). Anyway, I have *GREAT* insurance which covers checkups and covers some of the glasses or lenses, plus I have a Health Flex Spending account. And MyEyeDoctor is a place I went to after they were shown on my insurance's webpage. So imagine my shock when they say it will cost me $100 for the exam ( I thought that was covered entirely?) and $289.95 for the contacts (I thought $250 of this was covered). Are these people insane? That would mean that my exam was $200 and contacts were more than $500. I didn't get glasses because at this point I thought I was being "robbed blind." Additional ridiculousness ensued when I go to another eye place for glasses and myEyedoctor 1)never responds to their requests for my prescription, which they should have on record and 2)has apparently told my insurance that I got eyeglasses there. I hate this place, I will never go back, and sometimes I consider covering their store windows with spray paint. All in all, it costs me hundreds of dollars, hours of my life, and alot of hassle.
