Staff (Giovanni) is friendly and helpful and whisked me right into the room. Then I met Dr. Veal in person and she put me at ease. She made sure to explain everything to me in details that nobody has ever explained to me before which gave me a greater understanding of my eyes. She was very thorough with my eye exam and made sure to explain each test to me every step of the way. Thankfully my eyes are still in overall great health. After I finished with Dr. Veal, I went to the front and Giovanni spent the time calmly watching me try on an endless amount of frames before I chose one that I was ok with for reading glasses. He is very patient and goes through any paperwork in detail as well. I was able to get an appointment the next day and that is a plus for me since I have limited days off, but happened to be off that Saturday. Located at the Balboa Mission plaza center, the plaza itself has a huge parking lot. It is in a busy intersection of the valley, but nonetheless, nice area. Upon arrival, I made it in to my 9AM appt. on time and was kindly greeted by one of the staff members there, she was the same individual who assisted me over the phone. I (think) her name was Tatiana, she was so patient during my visit. She performed my eye exams and explained details per exam. She then prepared me to see the Doctor himself. Dr. H was so chill, kind, and dedicated to his specialty. He really shows compassion for what he stands for. I appreciated meeting him and getting to know him and his practice a bit. The practice was bought off by him from previous owner and he has slowly made renovations internally, making the office space more modern and equipped with upgraded technology. He was patient with me and answered my questions and concerns. My exam went well and no abnormal findings. I was off to select my new frames and I couldn't decide from their various selections available. Also, they ran out of space, so ask to see more, since they may have stocked elsewhere not on display, the staff there is more than happy to assist. They carry brand selections and unique styles. I tried on a couple of frames until I found the right ones, staff is also helpful and suggesting, which is nice since it can be overwhelming to be indecisive from all the nice frames. Once I picked out my frames, Tatiana explained how my insurance works and what would be most beneficial to add to the lenses. I appreciated knowing how my new vision plan worked and what co-pays I was expected to pay, etc. All-embracing, my visit was very pleasant and efficient. Olga took the time to explain insurance versus out-of-pocket options and made sure patients felt comfortable and cared for. The doctors have also always been kind and professional. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been disappointing. Between my annual exam, multiple return visits for contacts and glasses, and several phone calls, the level of service has noticeably declined. I understand there is a new owner, who I believe is one of the doctors that was already there and is very nice, but the overall atmosphere has changed. Olga used to be the first point of contact, and her presence seemed to set the tone for a higher level of patient care. Without her, the front desk experience feels less welcoming, and the staff's attitude has been underwhelming. Additionally, there are rotating doctors, which makes it difficult to build a relationship with someone familiar with my history and needs. Some of the fill-in doctors also appear unfamiliar with the system, making it harder to access past records or maintain continuity of care. Another challenge is the updated schedule. The office is no longer open on Saturdays, which makes even simple tasks like picking up contacts or glasses inconvenient. I've had to leave work five or six times over the past few months just to handle routine matters. While I don't have the time to detail every issue I've encountered recently, these cumulative experiences have changed my perception of the practice. Sadly, I'll likely be looking elsewhere for care moving forward and would no longer recommend this office to others.
