At my last visit, my prescription changed significantly, and I am now transitioning into progressive lenses for the first time. Because I order my glasses independently, confirming my pupillary distance (PD) is essential. This has never been an issue in the past. After leaving a voicemail with no response, I called again and was eventually transferred to the office, where I spoke with Erin. I was informed that the practice no longer provides PD measurements due to "liability concerns," a policy that was apparently implemented about 1.5 years ago--without notifying patients. This policy effectively prevents patients from ordering glasses elsewhere. I expressed my disappointment and noted that had I known of this policy change, I would have chosen a different provider. Erin initially stated she would "share my concerns in a roundabout way" with management. When I mentioned I would also be completing a survey, she told me there was no need for her to pass along my concerns because management reviews surveys. I made it clear that I still expected my concerns to be communicated directly, as I was speaking with a staff member who had the ability to do so. If you are comfortable purchasing expensive, limited frame options in-office, this may not be an issue for you. However, if you prefer the flexibility to order your own frames and lenses, I recommend looking elsewhere. As a result of this experience, I advised my mother to cancel her upcoming appointment, and we will be transitioning our care to another provider.

After filling out the patient history form on the eye pad they take you in for the initial eye checkup they tell you put your head here and put your head there, there will be a puff of air etc. etc. then they let you know you will be seen soon, just when I was called in to see the doctor it was an online "Doctor" on a screen, it's actually a virtual exam by a young man that looked no older that 20 years old. It was really awkward because the technician plays the middle man between the patient and the "doctor" on the screen. OK and here's the kicker the staff does not speak unless you ask them a question, the "doctor's" only job besides sitting at home was to say "better one or better two" there is nothing more to the exam, there is nothing more from the staff no questions like: Do you have headaches? How's your driving at night? Or ask my daughter how is your vision at school? There is ZERO basic human conversation from them. We felt extremely uncomfortable being there. It reminded me of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"

His offices offer LASIK surgery, contacts lenses, glasses and of course thorough eye exams. Over the years, I've come to consider him more of an friend than my doctor because of his honesty, friendly demeanor and expertise. Here's the issues: 1) Off-putting and excessive security for an optometrist office, 2) Electronic Health Records system questionnaire that doesn't value the patient's time, 3) Incompetent office staff (scheduling appointments within insurance parameters). There are other optometrist offices that provide better customer service. For more specifics: To start, greeting clients with a locked door. I know that it is the 21st century. Certain neighborhoods can be rough. Is Blakeney or Weddington a high crime area? I don't think so. So, why is it necessary to have everything but a retinal scan to get into the office space? So you had someone come in and grab some frames - once (Oakley frames cost about $15/pair to manufacture, you may pay $100/pair). Stop treating the vast majority of people as if they are going to repeatedly violate the security of your business. Between your profit margins and your insurance, you can handle the shrink. Next, let's address the Electronic Health Records system (EHR) that is designed to consume mass quantities of patient time asking questions that are sometimes patently ridiculous. Men cannot get pregnant, this is basic biology. In a digitally active online form in the 21st century, why after acknowledging that I am a man would a form ask me if I'm pregnant (this is a "sex" question, not a "gender" debate)? No reason other than wasting time/energy. Why would such a system not retain information from prior visits and simply ask for changes and updates to previously reported information? Its not a HIPAA thing. Is it because you don't value the client's time? So, you really are going to ask me to fill out this complete multi-page form again for another appointment next week - really!? Finally, lets talk about the importance of scheduling appointments that acknowledges the world of health insurance that we live in and that funds the very existence of the modern optometrist office. When a client completes an appointment and the optometrist tells the person at the front desk to set them up for their annual appointment, it is not a stretch to think that part of the scheduling algorithm would be to include insurance requirements for the ANNUAL check-up. So, imagine my disappointment, when I show up after completing the forms, working my way through security, and the front desk staff asks, "So, you're going to be paying for this visit out of your pocket?" No, I pay a monthly premium so I don't have to. Now, to make it worse, I have addressed these same issues - in writing - to the company at least 2 years ago. They haven't done anything to change them. This optometry office needs significant improvement.

We did this on a Saturday at Costco, which is a very stupid thing to do. It was a mad house. The Costco lady did the centering of my eyes on the new frames but when I picked them up, the focus was bad. So back I went to Brinton. Another exam and a slight adjustment. Back to Costco and they replaced the lens gratis. However, it still was not working so I went back to Costco and had the ladies check whether my eyes were properly centered and...no, the measurement was off, so Costco replaced the lens again, at no cost. Brinton put me on to that and I am very appreciative that he did, and had taken the time do do all the eye checking to get it right. Very nice operation.

I was a little nervous going in and the nerves quickly went away. The service was great from receptionist to Dr. Clifton and back to receptionist. All 3 ladies were very welcoming. Smiles everywhere! They just created a happy soothing environment. The exam itself very easy. Dr. Clifton was very thorough and was extremely informative and honest with my options after going over her assessment of my exam. Making it very easy to make a decision on the route I wished to take. I am extremely appreciative of all 3 ladies of this office. My 1st experience was a great experience!
