From the minute I walked in to the minute I left this was a five star experience. The receptionist Lupe could not have been friendlier when I was greeted and she was also helpful checking me out when I bought new glasses. Dr. Stephan Hanowsky is probably the best optometrist I have ever experienced as a patient. His exam was comprehensive and he answered all my questions with knowledge. And parking was easy! The worst experience ever. I had my lenses changed at this location, and I asked about ten times if my old lenses could be returned to me. The staff assured me that they always return them to clients, and that I would receive mine after the work was completed in two weeks. They also promised that if anything happened, they would compensate me. However, after the work was done, no one contacted me. I called a couple of times, but no one returned my calls. When I finally visited, the assistant refused to discuss my order with me, and the supervisor came and simply said that they had thrown my lenses away. There was no further explanation or compensation. I would not recommend Visionworks to anyone--be careful, as they don't seem to care about their customers. read more

Lupe gave proper instruction on how to adjust and gave extremely helpful feedback. Dr. Gonzalez is wonderful! Made me feel like we've been friends for years. Easy to talk to and is extremely thorough with his examinations. He expeditiously pinpointed my problem and offered articulate solutions to my needs in minutes. For several years we have gone to see Dr Gonzalez for our eye care needs and have always been very happy with the time and care he shows us during our appointments. This Summer my young daughter requested contacts for the first time after being frustrated for years of sports with glasses. She was excited, yet very nervous, for her fitting that happened to be on her birthday. Anna and Veronica made her feel so special from the moment she walked in the door. Their gentle patience and kindness toward her calmed her nerves, instantly making her more comfortable and relaxed in what can be a frustrating task of getting contacts in and out for the first time. They made the experience so wonderful that she looks for them and gives a quick wave anytime we might pass by the storefront. Dr. Gonzalez is the only reason I scheduled my eye exam, but he was not there on the date that I picked two weeks earlier. They could have notified me and I would have re-scheduled for when he was back. The fill in doctor had no knowledge of the contact lenses she prescribed and set me up with contact lenses that nobody carries; not Costco, Walgreens, 1-800 Contacts.....nobody. Sending an email to customer service got me nothing more than a canned response and no updated prescription I can actually use. I now have to pay for another eye exam with a competent eye doctor who knows the products they prescribe. read more

The doctor made the experience perfect. Informative and polite. When I picked up the contacts one of the lady's made me feel like I was a bother to them. I want to say the one that sits on the main desk. I don't know. I rather deal with a automated system then deal with the rude comments. My experience here was beyond reproach. I have visited optometrists about 10 times in my lifetime. Those visits scaled from bad to mediocre at best. Here Dr.Gonzalez and Eric were Beyond giving, with their time, patience and professionalism. Dr. Gonzalez had an amazing bedside manner, was two to three times more thorough with his testing than any of my prior eams. He also took some time to explain what he was doing and even help me find glasses that works for me. From there Eric spent an hour plus with me going through every frame that I thought was good and also provided insight on frames that I would have not considered. I wish I took a picture when he literally had dozens frames lined up for me to try and offered his personal insight on each pair. I highly recommend taking your eyes here as the staff will go above and beyond in every way to provide the best experience possible. read more

So I looked up the nearest Visionworks in the hope that I could purchase a pair. From the moment, I walked in the store the customer service or over and beyond. Anne was so nice and helpful. Without hesitation to worked to help me come up to a resolution. In the end, I ended up with contacts and solution for my trip. I hate that I live over an hour away on a good day from this location, because I would happily come to this location just for the pleasant customer service alone. Had an amazing experience from start to finish after a horrible experience the day before with eye deal eye care. I called and got a same day appointment. Easy, New location inside hip mall. After filling out paperwork went straight in for my eye exam. Dr. Patel was excellent and quick with finding my prescription, what took hours doing with a previous Dr at another facility that wasn't even to get me a prescription I can see through. Reyna then was a great help with choosing frames. She chose a couple she thought I would like and gave me my personal time and space to choose and look around. I bought 3 pair! After getting my first pair I was pleased with the prescription. No more headaches or heavy eyes. Definitely a go to place if looking for new glasses. Not many brand names but definitely a huge selection to choose from. :D read more

In the last 25 years I went thru two dozen or more eye examinations at few different optical outlets including Visionworks at different locations. Overall my opinion about eye examinations and optometrists performing it is not very positive. My estimate based on my own experience is that about 30% of people are wearing wrong prescriptions and wrong eye glasses. My own prescriptions were wrong about 1/3 of the time and I had to go thru second sometimes third eye examination. So where is my 5 star review coming from? From Visionworks at Harlem Irving Plaza and Dr Gonzales. I was impressed with this place starting from Anna at the front desk to the chair where Dr Gonzales performed my eye examination. Dr Gonzales patiently listens to everything you have to say about your vision concerns, doesn't rush thru examination takes time, as much as needed to generate prescription. I wish all optometrists had similar approach. I would definitely recommend Dr Gonzales as your first stop for eye examination at Visionworks at HIP read more

I decided to go here for a contacts exam and was not happy. I was given a prescription that was not correct. I told the doc that I still cannot see clear enough and he said I shouldn't go any stronger because I'll go "cross eyed". I thought that was rude and unprofessional of him to say. I was given ONE PAIR OF TRIAL CONTACTS with my new prescription. I was not told they were two week contact so I threw them out after one day since I assumed they were daily. When I went back to see if I could get another pair so I don't have to wear glasses while waiting for my shipment of contacts to arrive, I was told I can't get another pair. If I am a customer that paid for an exam, why wouldn't you give me another pair? It's ridiculous that you'd let a customer leave unhappy about something so simple. I will be taking my business elsewhere! I do not recommend this place. read more

I walked in two weeks ago and was helped by Malik. He was very professional and was informative. He had my business. Here's a tip to book if schedule is full. Pick a date but have notifications and texts on. I was lucky someone canceled and I was able to get in with Dr. Gonzalez. Professional and makes you comfortable. Back to see Malik to figure out what I'm buying. A young woman helped out making selections for me. I didn't get her name. This special they have buy 1 get 1 is a no brainer. They have Ray Ban. That is the top of the line there. they have been making glasses frames for a long time. High quality and modern look. I also did a pair of sunglasses prescription with polarize. Amazing! I bought a third pair off brand for back up. Everything under $900! You can not beat that! Mixed with the service and you have the perfect spot for eye care. It took 10 days from my exam to purchase to picking them up and being helped by the same woman that helped me before. Great staff! Decided to make an appointment at Visionworks due the great reviews, called and made my appointment with Dr. Gonzalez. The gentleman on the phone was very professional and efficient, asked him how long an appointment normally takes and he responded 30 minutes. I was impressed when my phone dinged and received a text message confirming my appointment...quickly replied back with my "Y" to confirm. Was equally impressed when I received yet another reminder the day prior. Thought to myself, this place is "on it" and time was (and still is) important to me since I was using my lunch break for the appointment. Now it is the day of the appointment, arrived, filed out some quick paper work and was instructed to the sitting area untill I was called. 30 minutes later and I'm still waiting (I did check out the frames and picked out a few just to be proactive..planned on buying 2 pairs of glasses). No one gave me an update, so I asked how delayed the Dr. Gonzalez was and was told "oh your next!". Now it is 12:15 (45 minutes after my scheduled time...so much for those text reminders) and decided to head out and take my business elsewhere. I would have gladly rescheduled if they were transparent from the start on how delayed the doctor was.
