I asked the lady at the front counter who was available to do a simple men's cut, she said that only a "the top stylist" ($60) was. I was in a rush and didn't feel like looking for another place so I said sure. I ask about how long was the wait going to be, she responded with only 5 minutes so I took a seat and In less than 5 minutes the very nice lady walked over and asked me to follow her to hair washing area. She did a good job! I then followed her to another couch while she went to check to make sure my "top stylist" was ready. .......I could tell something was wrong as soon as she walked up. I was told the client before me had hair that was running a little longer to complete. Looking over to the area where a group of employees she spoke to we're gathered and noticed they were laughing, talking and reading a magazine. Highly annoyed I asked if there was anyone else who was available. I was told that not one stylist was available and wouldn't. Be till after 7. Wow!!. I asked for them to double check and was told one lady should be done in about 5 minutes if I wanted to wait. I should have just left but I waited. 5 minutes turned into 10 then 10 turned into 20. Then it just seemed like they forgot about be all together skipping me when I see other walking be taken right in. I took off that cheap cape and towel around my neck and politely placed it on the counter right in front of another walk in then I walked out. I will NEVER spend another dime at any of their locations . No wonder VC has such a bad reputation with offensive customer service, lazy employees and not to mention how ugly and dated their stores have become. read more

Honestly I don't know where to start. I decided to make an appointment today in the morning to get a hair cut. I called and they were able to accommodate me and see me. My stylist (Roni) was one of the best I encountered. Very professional and very good at what she does. She cut my hair, blow dry and flat iron and she did an excellent job. She is very sweet and resourceful as well. She answered all my question and made sure all my concerns were addressed. I am definitely going back. P.S. I have mixed curly hair with sever ends damage due to heat and was really concerned but Roni did an amazing job cutting all the damage while keeping the length of my hair as much as possible. I can't say that the stylists at Visible Changes give me everything I want, but I understand that there is this thing called corporate policy. So no, they won't trim or color my eyebrows, but I know someone who will. I was really afraid to try any VC after my first experience with them some 10+ years ago, but one day about 2 years ago I was pretty desperate for a color and cut and couldn't get an appointment with my regular stylist. I was able to get an appointment that day and found a great colorist, Edna, and a great stylist, Cynthia. I can't honestly say that I still come here every time I want something done. Yesterday my sister and I took my mom for a hair cut and color for her birthday and I have some words for this place. Mind you my mom is in a wheelchair and can only take a few steps at a time. Every single person we had to deal with was nothing but kind and understanding to us and our mom. Rosemary helped us first by coloring my moms hair. She spoke Spanish to her when needed and was so gentle. Then another girl I wish I knew her name constantly made sure my mom was comfortable when transferring her from chair to chair. And Jazz (Jazmin) was her hair cut lady. My mom has always cut her hair in a pixie form but Jazz made sure over and over if that's what my mom wanted. She even moved her things from her area to another that was more comfortable for my mom. Overall, everyone was beyond remarkable to us and I can't thank them enough! read more

Since being married, my wife never liked the places that I would get my hair cut. The reasons would vary, but basically, not to my wife's standards of how I should look. We would try barber shops/salons of her choosing, even going as far as letting my wife tell the barber/stylist how to cut my hair. The end result, sadly, would always be the same...she didn't like it. The worst part of it was that I had to live with this disappointment on my head until my hair grew out. One day, at Memorial City Mall, we walked by the Visible Changes and my wife said "how about this place?". I was very reluctant, mainly because I couldn't take another hair cut that my wife didn't like on me. However, I trusted my wife and went ahead and made an appointment. Not having been to this location, I had no preference and asked for whomever was available. The lady at the counter said that I would be getting Valerie. I thought that this should go well, I mean, my mom's name is Valerie so what could go wrong. My wife did the usual talking with Valerie and explained how my hair cut should go. Valerie was very friendly to talk to and a very happy person overall. I had never met her before in my life, but she made the entire experience comfortable, like we've known each other for years. As Valerie made each cut, my wife never once looked concerned. In the end, my wife loved it!!! I was shocked, but relieved. Valerie was able to capture the look that my wife had longed for the past couple of years on my head! Valerie, just recently, was given the honor by both me and my wife to cut our 15 month old son's hair. She would only cut what my wife felt comfortable. My wife, seeing the excellent work that she does with me, trusted her with whatever she felt would be a very nice first hair cut for my son. Even with my son a bit scared at times, Valerie was very careful and very gentle, especially during his squirmish periods. In the end, she was able to capture exactly what my wife was looking for and made our son look very handsome for his first hair cut! I recommend anyone looking for a great experience at this location, as well as getting your money's worth for a hair cut, to ask for Valerie. Very poor quality hair dying. Went twice and both times hair dye color was poorly applied so grey never got covered. In addition, my color turned out copper red when I asked for light brown to blonde. The excuse was that they use "temporary color. " After paying$130.00 for a cut and color they tried to rip me off for another $80.00 to recover my grey hair. So, Visible Changes feels I need to pay $220.00 plus a generous tip to get a little grey hair covered, only to have my hair copper red? I do not recommend this salon for hair dying. It's too bad because the hair stylist did a good job cutting my hair. Unfortunately, I'll be finding another salon. Carl F, I have called your salon "to make it right." That's where the $80 additional charge came from. Not only did I get asked to pay almost $100 more just to cover a small amount of grey hair, the color technician became very angry. The entire experience was a cumulative 6-7 hour experience just to cover minimal grey strands and I never ended up with anything resembling light brown or even remotely on the blonde spectrum. My hair is copper red after two visits and a minimum of 7 to 8 hours total in your salon. I'm sorry but that's just not right. read more

Went in last night for a corrective coloring since some other horrible salon had bleached my hair orange, then tried to correct it with high/lowlights and then the next day stripped all the high/lowlights out and left me with a huge mess two days before my engagement pictures were to be had!!!! But Visible Changes came to the rescue. Maria did a great job of low lighting my hair in order to soften the color. They discussed every and all options with me and made me feel so at ease. So...she has been taming my hair since I wanted to grow it out long and she has been doing such a great job with it. Well yesterday...I decided that I wanted to cut it extremely short and she made it looked AMAZING!!! She really knows what she is doing and she really can give you some advices to work your hair. I've never had it short before so I was kinda afraid, but she did such an excellent job that I'm excited to rock it. She is so down to earth and she really cares about her client. She takes the hair style that you like and makes it your own. You MUST call and request her to make sure you get a spot with her since she gets busy. She is AWESOME! You know when you find an old picture of yourself and you think... I loved my hair back then?! If only my hair could look like that again! It seems after breaking up with my long-term hairdresser (after something like 8 years), I have been searching for a new place/person for the last 6 months. Lately, I have been going to Kharisma in the Galleria area and I saw Naz, she was good but too hard to get an appointment with my busy schedule and her part time work schedule. Honestly, I wanted to like Kharisma so I kept telling myself they were great and I liked my color... Reality - my hair made me look old. The color and cut just weren't cutting it. Ugh, finding a new place takes work. I found myself in a pinch for a big event next week, I knew I was going to have to make another move. Low and behold, I was at the nail salon and I saw a woman w GREAT hair. I asked her about it and she told me to see Kelly @ Visible Changes at Memorial City Mall. I even took a picture of this random woman at the nail salon so I could make sure Kelly knew what I wanted. When I called for an appt, Kelly was on vacation but the receptionist recommended someone on the same level (5 out of 7) and a color director. I ended up w Bell for color and Bridey (yep, that is how it is spelled) for a cut. I showed them my old picture and they both exceeded my expectations!! Absolutely, hands down, the BEST color and haircut that I can remember. I would love to give them 5 stars but I had to wait an hour and a half between color and cut w no explanation for the delay except to be told Bridey was running 15 mins late and there was no one else to cut my hair - he offered me to sit under the dryer and come back another day. What? The message was given to me when it was already an hour past my appointment and it took 30 more minutes, not 15! Bridey made up for it w an explanation when I finally sat down in her chair. I forgave her and she was worth the wait. Visible Changes is like Southwest Airlines, or a cattle car. If you can stand being herded through, I highly recommend both Bell and Bridey. read more

Great place. Nice experienced stylists. They listen to you and give you what you want. Violet did a great job on my hair. She just changed the way I look. She listened to me spent time with me. Shampooed, cut, blowdried and cut my hair again to get exactly what we discussed, then straightened it some more and spent time explaining to me different products that I needed to use to maintain the look. During my second visit, I wanted a haircut for my 3 year old son and the stylist did a good job. He looked great. She spent time making him comfortable. I just didn't catch the stylist name. I love this place. My hair stylist is Rebeca. She is one of the friendliest hair stylists that I've ever encountered. I have thick hair and she always gets my hair to stay light and bouncy. I know my hair is in good hands with her. And as an added bonus, she designs my hair styles based on what she thinks will work for me. Great cut! Front desk could use some work! I haven't gotten my hair cut in about a year and decided I wanted something short and fresh! Rebecca did an amazing job! She took the time to listen to what I wanted and offered her professional opinion. I am still losing the baby weight and have a more round face than usual. Upon Rebecca's recommendation I went with a slightly longer cut than originally planned and it turned out perfect! Rebecca even took the time to make a few more cuts after my hair was dried to be sure it was just right! She made me feel at ease and wasn't too chatty! It was one of the best hair cuts I've ever had! I will for sure be going back to her in the future! I can not say enough positive things about her or the experience she provided. Now to the front desk! As my cut was finished up I was thinking about what an amazing job Rebecca had done and how happy I was I came to see her...which left me to decide how much of a tip I would leave her. The cut cost $60, a little more than I wanted to spend but worth it in the end. I decided I was going to tip her 20%. When I checked out the lady asked me how everything was and then handed me the cash to give Rebecca after she charged my card. As she handed me the cash she stated, "Only 12 dollars?" In a manner as if how dare I tip her only $12. I was so astonished she actually said this out loud, I just took the cash and walked away to give it to Rebecca. While I have never gotten a CUT here, I have been consistently happy with their styling. It always feel nice to get pampered every once in a while and treat yourself to a nice blow out or up-do in preparation for a night out or special occasion. I have been a walk-in and had an appointment and never had an issue with a wait. Generally, they pack the stylist's schedules, so don't expect to be seen early if you arrive before your designated time. All the stylists to whom I've been assigned have done a lovely job with working from references or spoken requests. They are friendly and will talk if you feel like it or shut up if you don't. I will be back for a wedding in November and will likely schedule another appointment so that I look simply smashing! read more

Hmm. While I empathize with the previous reviewer's post, I had a very different experience. I think my expectations were also completely different. I used to go to Visible Changes all the time when I was a teenager, which was a while ago. I thought VC was pretty chain-y for a salon, but I did not care about my hair too much during high school. I have not been back since, nor have I been inside MCM Mall because it just got disgusting. I was pleasantly surprised not only by the mall, but by the VC experience. I had a blow-out done for a Gala event. I showed up 5 minutes early for my appt and almost immediately was taken back to shampoo and then Dee, my assigned stylist, blew-out my hair. She was adorable, very efficient and professional, and my hair looked better than fantastic. I confess that I did not have high expectations...I just figured that I might as well have someone else do my hair so I wouldn't have to do it. To my great delight, this only cost me $14, and I was in at 3:55 p.m. and out by 4:30. Sweet! Admittedly I have shorter hair, but the experience was so easy and my hair was better than perfect! I am definitely going back. Ask for Dee. She is quite a capable, efficient, and a lady who knows exactly what she's doing. VC is also sponsoring each stylist in achieving her annual revenue goal...and I was so pleased by Dee that I want to help her achieve hers. So go get your hair done at VC, ask for Dee, and let us know what you think! I have not had a color done at VC before, so I can't recommend that only because I have not personally experienced it. But I will get a color done and then report back later. Until then, DO go either (a) get your blow-outs done here, or (b) get your regular cuts done here. I am. Also, I did not know this, but Visible Changes is a Houston-based company. The company wants to grow (who doesn't?) so is putting a heavier focus on quality customer experiences by stylists at all levels, hence the annual goals for each hair stylist. I have had some real challenges with haircuts over the years in Houston at the different themed shops: Sports, "Men's Salons", Hipster/Beard. And I have walked by Visible Changes many times, but it never looked like the place for me. Desperate for a decent haircut I made an appointment with a top tier stylist and I was not disappointed. I was very fortunate to work with Novy (not only a professional stylist but an instructor) and she gave me the best haircut in my 15 years of living in Houston. Friends and co-workers commented on the improvement, it's a good feeling. I went here for a simple trim. I chose a mid range experienced stylist. I asked her to take off whatever was damaged at the bottom and to trim up my face framing pieces. I was in the chair for 5 minutes. She straightened my hair and spent less than 2 minutes cutting. I'm not even sure she took any of the split ends off, I can't tell a length difference but she destroyed my face framing pieces. One side was at my check bone and the other side was as short as my eyebrow. I spent $60 dollars to have to go home and cut and style my own hair in order to fix it. Really confused about Visible Changes the company. To update my review that was written a couple of years ago, even after they apologized and sent me a gift card and a handwritten note, unknown to me, they banned me from their store and services which I found out about today about two years later. It was surprising because I wish I had known they weren't truly apologetic in the first place. I would have declined their gift card instead of going back to their stores and paying a lot of money for their services ontop of their gift card and buy their products. The act of giving the giftcard and "apology" felt very sincere at the time, but I would have never accepted it and even give them more of my own money had I known how they truly felt and that they would act like this for voicing a complaint. Also upon looking at their other reviews, the same manager, Pat, that gave me the initial poor experience is still working there. Not sure what her problem is, or why she's suitable for a management position. The employees were more apologetic for her behavior than she ever was. Please if you have an auditory/language processing delay, suffer from panic attacks... do not go to this location. She has such thin patience and if anybody calls to complain and to stand up for the mistreatment, she'll classify it as "harassment" and the company will stand behind her. I'm confused as to how I wrote the first initial review years ago and the reviews haven't gotten better. There are tons of reviews complaining about the manager and the treatment at the front desk. I've had AMAZING cuts and color jobs. I'm looking at you Jenny and Cynthia! I've also had TERRIBLE jobs. I'm looking at you Maria. (I think that's her name. Older gal, tall, thin, heavy accent) Used bleach even though Jenny doesn't use it. Told me it was my fault that my hair came out blonde when at the time I had asked for more auburn tones. Manager was terrible during that visit too. When I wanted to make sure I wouldn't get her again when I called in for my next appointment, he basically told me it was my fault for not saying anything even though I HAD told the girl when checking out that I was very unhappy. Anyway that was one experience. Don't go to Maria and you'll be fine. Also, if anything does come up, speak to a different manager. Jenny is AMAZING. She is a color whiz. A magician of dye. I went to visible changes to change us bum hair color, I have very dark almost black hair. I discussed the color I wanted with the hair dresser she held it up to my hair and we agreed on it and what did I get? 3 hours of sitting in a chair only to come out with basically the EXACT SAME COLOR AS BEFORE. Actually, it looks even darker than before (in person you can tell more than in the photos) when I specifically asked to go lighter. I have been looking forward to changing my hair color for 9 months as I was pregnant, and I am just so disappointed upset for wasting my money and time away from my newborn to look the same. If the color had been similar in anyway to what I wanted I would have been okay with it but this is not even close. And the hair dresser should have known what needed to be done as her hair is very similar to my own. I'm just so unhappy I don't think I will ever go back there again. read more

This is in reference to the Memorial City location. I tried to schedule a perm, and they said I had to have a consultation first. I explained I lived quite a ways away, and didn't want to waste my time, but they would not confirm anything. So I went in and talked to an extremely young lady who explained "she went to school and they trained her not to perm hair". The conversation digressed from there and I ended up wasting my time. My daughter is only 11. She is mixed and has naturally curly hair with no chemical processes (3C-4A). I was quoted 20.00 for a wash and trim. I opted to spend the extra 10 for a deep condition. I was asked if her hair was tangled, and I shrugged. I brought her in with braids. Curly hair will tangle WHILE YOURE BRUSHING IT. Anyone with experience with natural hair will tell you that. Halfway through our appointment, the woman from the desk came over because it was taking longer than normal. Our stylist mentioned the hair was tangled (of course, you just washed it twice and sat her under a dryer for 10 minutes with conditioner on... you're lucky you didn't have a bloody dreadlock), so the woman, IN FRONT OF MY DAUGHTER, started giving us dirty looks and telling us that she's going to upcharge us for her hair being tangled and that "we don't offer that service here". Seriously? You don't brush people's hair here? I let it go because how bad could it be? During the trim, the woman let her hair dry as she's cutting it, which made it shrink up to my daughter's ears. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU CUT NATURAL BLACK CURLY HAIR. They told me that I was to correct it myself when I got home. The trim was rushed and yes, I did wind up having to fix it when I got home. Whole chunks were ignored. When we checked out, they upcharged us 45.00 for "tangled" hair. SERIOUSLY? I asked them why they felt they needed to charge extra to brush her hair. I asked if they had any experience with black hair. I was told, "of course, but it's not tangled". The woman was extremely rude and unprofessional in front of my daughter. I left there with a head full of hair that I still have to come home and fix. My son also had his hair cut. All he wanted was a simple buzz cut, same length all the way around. His curl pattern was ignored and now his head looks lopsided and I had to fix that too. What the hell is going on in this place? I seriously just want my money back and to let everyone know that unless you're white with perfect straight hair when you walk in, don't bother going because they're just going to try and make you feel guilty for the extra effort of dealing with ethnic hair. They ruined my self esteem, and had nothing to say but asked the lady that cut my hair for 11 years at VC not to touch my hair because I made a claim through their insurance to at least help me pay for extensions or treatment. As soon as I sat in the chair, the stylist, Lina, said prices had gone up and if I wanted her to blow dry my hair it would be $15 in addition to the $45. I Told her I was quoted $45 total the day before. She said I could choose to not have the blow dry and pay $45. There was nothing I could do at this point so I told her to just cut it for $45. When I went to check out, I asked the cashier why on their website it said $45 for the cut and blow dry and after I got there was told it would be $15 additional. The cashier spoke to the manager and came back and said that the prices on the website were just base prices and the stylist could charge anything she wanted. Then she said she would just charge me $45. I told her that I did not have the blow dry, only the cut and she said it would be $45. I paid this and told her I would never come back here again. She said nothing and walked away. This is really horrible customer service and is unethical. I would not recommend VC or Lina. read more
