We found this place by chance and it was so good that we actually ate here twice, both times sitting outside. Our first meal we shared the Maldera burratina with sun-dried tomato, baked lamb with potatoes and in-season porcini mushrooms with pasta. We paired with a house Montepulciano wine. For €48, this has got to be the best gourmet deal going. In fact, the guy sitting next to us, a frequent patron who knows the staff, says we found the only honest place in the area. For our second meal here, we shared their bruschetta sampler with sun-dried tomato, pesto, fresh tomato, pickles and olive oil as well as roman chicken with peppers and homemade lasagna. This is hands down my favorite restaurant I've found in all of Italy on a two week long trip!!! Eating here is like eating at your grandmas house because grandma is literally cooking your dinner!!! Every night they have specials grandma prepared and a table of antipasti ready for you to eat. I loved this place so much we had to come back again and celebrate Thanksgiving with Grandma's lamb which was amazing!!! The first time I had chicken with peppers and the flavor was so authentic I've never had such rich flavored chicken with bell peppers and red sauce. The tiramisu was fantastic and they had many dishes vegetarians would enjoy including ravioli with cheese, spinach and pumpkin sauce. The service was so great it was refreshing to be welcomed in a restaurant mostly frequented by Italians as we were some of the few non-Italians eating here. It truly was like eating at home for a three hour dinner, no rush, a true pleasure to sit and eat wonderful food. If you're in Piazza Navona and see all the men trying to get you in their restaurant just keep walking straight over to this restaurant and ask what grandma has cooked up today. You will be happy you ignored all the other restaurant options for a great meal at the same or lower price. Also there is a good selection of well priced wines and hard alcohol. For a group of 6 with wine, antipasti, main dishes and desserts we paid 140€. Also free wifi but who has time when you have great food to eat!!! I cannot agree with the positive reviews. We stayed in the Piazza Navona neighborhood, and once I saw this restaurant was ranked #92 on TA (out of several thousand) and had 4.5 stars on yelp, I felt good about coming here. We were very disappointed. My dad ordered the steak with rosemary. He got a sub-par cut of meat, not recognizable as any particular good cut of meat, lots of fat and gristle around the edges. There was no seasoning at all on the steak. There was a sprig of rosemary on the top. Literally just a steak, no seasoning (not even salt or pepper), and a sprig of rosemary. They did not baste the steak in butter+rosemary. Nothing. My dad was peeling off the bits of rosemary to add to each bite just for some flavor. My dad is very "asian" and hates to waste food but after half of the steak, he preferred not to eat the rest. Ever the optimist, he said, at least I am not hungry any more. I got the meatballs and tomato sauce. Initially the flavor was good, however I kept getting crunchy bits. Not the good kind of crunchy. Crunchy like there was sand or dirt mixed in. As often as every bite to every other bite, there was sand. Out of three meatballs I could only finish 2. We got spinach as a side dish. Mistake. It was either frozen spinach or terribly overcooked spinach such that it became mush, like baby food, and served with a lemon wedge. Again, no seasoning or any redeeming quality about it other than it was a vegetable and everyone should eat vegetables. I am incredibly "asian" as well and hate to waste food but I only ate 2/3 of my food. Highly unusual for me. Eventually my dad felt guilty about leaving half the steak and attempted to eat more of it, but the server literally cleared the table before my dad was finished and was waiting for my dad to put the bit of steak on his fork in his mouth and then took the plates away. There was still spinach on the plate that my dad may have eaten but the server picked it up to take away. And obviously from my review it was NOT worth it to tell the server to put the plate back down. We paid and were waiting for change. The server said goodnight thank you for coming. I said where is our change. He said sorry I misunderstood you and thought you wanted to leave the rest as tip. To me it is a bad sign when a restaurant keeps the change without your permission. It's possible that we ordered the wrong dishes but my impression of the restaurant is that they don't care enough to want their customers to return. I gave an extra star for the ambiance - it's a romantic restaurant with beautiful decor. read more

My cousin found this place on yelp and we decided to come here for lunch. To be honest, I was a little scared to try food in Rome because the first time I visited I had a horrible dining experience at all the restaurants I visited. BUT the food at Virginiae was amazing! We ordered the caprese salad, chicken cooked in a Roman style, homemade lasagne, and handmade ravioli! All of the dishes were so delicious and the sauce on the chicken and ravioli was like no other :) The food was cooked to perfection! We booked a table for the New Year's Eve dinner 2017 and loved it! The location is centrally located and easy to reach. Inside, it is very cozy and the staff incredibly friendly and pleasant. The extra evening dinner consisted of great seafood and fish. We were so excited afterwards that we went back to the restaurant a few days later. Unfortunately there was no choice of New Year's Eve dinner, but the "normal" menu is just as great. We ate incredibly good pasta there! Caught wind of this place from some fellow travelers in Florence and boy are we glad that we came. Not only did did this place have some of the best service I've ever experienced not just in Europe (which is not the best) but almost my entire life. They are very personable, friendly and funny! But let's face it, none of that matters if the food tastes like snot but I also proud to announce it was the best meal we've had in 3 weeks in all of Europe. My youngest picked this restaurant due to the 2k reviews on Tripadvisor and it being one of the top 83 restaurants in Rome. I was a little hesitant since we were able to get reservations the same day, but figured it was the most convenient given that we were hanging out near the Pantheon. The husband and eldest daughter were super skeptical "I hear only English in this restaurant", "Can it get any more touristy" "The menu doesn't have Italian on it" and "They don't even name the meat sauce "bolognese" or the potato dumplings "gnocci." Boy, did they regret their words. This was my favorite meal in Rome. Everyone enjoyed their dishes - I got the bucatini, my daughter got the gnocci, and the other go fresh pasta with meat sauce. My husband was eyeing the Roman Chicken but we were too full. Unfortunately, we ate here the last night or we would be back. The staff was super nice - even though we were late, we were seated promptly. They treat you like family. All the waiters spoke good English and were real helpful bringing wine and recommending food. We even took a pic with their 80 yr old grandma who cooks in the back. And let me tell ya, she is not just a tourist prop, she really is back there workin hard! They are very proud of the home made ravioli and lasagna, man was it tasty. The staff was super attentive and the atmosphere quite nice. We ordered the Cacio y Pepe and the Rigatoni Alla'Amatriciana. They were both done well with the nod to the Rigatoni. it was tasty and well balanced. I make Cacio so my standards are super high, but this was done well. We also had the Veal Saltimbocca, which albeit a bit small, very tasty. A glass or two of house red and out we went. I was very pleased with my decision and the price was a fair 36Euro. We had a large group family style dinner here in the upstairs balcony. If you're afraid of heights ask not to be seated up there. It's quite narrow (there's no way it would pass fire safety standards in the US). Anyway on to the good, the food and wine were excellent. Virginiae was one of the places that made me feel very welcome in Rome. My boyfriend and I accidentally came an hour late (a typo in our itinerary) and Virginiae was very accommodating. The food was awesome. My boyfriend and I split the meatballs, which I absolutely recommend, and the bruschetta, very good also. My boyfriend had the pesto pasta and I had the fettuccine with meat sauce, both were absolutely great. Stopped by here simply because it was close to where we were staying. All three of us ordered a pasta dish. Each was amazing. I ordered their special of Lasagna with pesto, zucchini and pine nuts. Absolutely amazing. They made a simple fettuccine with butter and a little bit of cheese for our 10-year old. It was really great. My husband ordered the rigatoni with some kind of spicy meat. It was the first thing listed on the menu. This was really really delicious. We loved all three dishes. Really loved them. Great service. We don't drink alcohol so I am very sensitive to how I am treated by a waiter when they realize I'm not ordering any wine. I lived in Rome for 2 years and this place opened up about half way through. The owner is the niece of the owner of Da Francesco that is a great pizza place. This place, however, is not. The service, the pizza, other food is just not there. The owner and the staff are more like street thugs than proprietors. They aren't courteous and the food comes out cold when it finally comes out. I recommend Da Francesco or the best is truly a 3 minute walk from here - Pizaa La Montecarlo. These guys are fun, friendly and the pizza is fantastic. The owner is the son of La Buffeta which I hear is great pizza, I just don't like the attitude of the Mother that owns it, she's not the nicest person which always made me not want to go there. Fantastico. What a fabulous meal. Our family of 4 decide to "wing it" around 9:30 on a Sunday, our last night in Rome, and wound up having a great experience. We were tired from walking all day and wandered out from our Airbnb to find something close but good. Luckily Da Francesco could only seat us outside and we passed (good thing because it poured). We went around the corner and inquired at Virginiae who happily sat us upstairs after just a 5 minute wait. Our waiter couldn't have been more attentive and was helpful in deciding on which dishes. We over ordered even at his urging to do less plates, but everything looked so good. We shared the Burrata and Bruschetta to start. So good. The primi was our downfall. Instead of sharing we individually ordered the Gnocchi, Fettuccine with meat sauce, the Mizze... which was homemade pasta with a light white sauce and pancetta, and the Caci di Pepe. We sampled each other's and the Mizze... homemade pasta was my favorite (even though I ordered the caci di Pepe). Each one was delicious in there own way though. We should have only ordered two secondi to share but once again we couldn't help but order individually. We had the osso bucco, grilled lamb and two orders of veal saltimboca. Everyone was happy and only one order of the saltimboca was fully eaten. I've had a lot of Osso Bucco and this was one of, if not the best I've ever had. The sauce was on the rich side and the meat was extremely tender. There was plenty of Barolo to go along with the meal as well.
