Found this neighborhood gem within an 8-minute walk from our hotel in Montebello. Service was 10/10. Food was incredible. Indoor and outdoor seating, but not a large area. The calamari was grilled and maybe the best I've ever tasted. The artichoke salad totally exceeded my expectations. Two of us had the lasagna with meat sauce. One of the best I ever had. Not gonna lie. I got a little scared because it was empty when I got there. Within seconds, it was packed. Listen to the waiter Alex or Alexander and ordered the four meals that he suggested. There was four of us. Probably the best lasagna. I've had ever. Ditto for the Carbonaro. His wine suggestion was super on Point. Their menu includes a variety of local cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients from locally sourced vendors. We let our waiter make our menu for the evening, the only entree's we had to have were the Cacio de Pepe and the Osso Buco. We had a salad prepared with fresh greens and artichokes with a Balsamic vinaigrette and shaved Parmesan cheese . Wonderful. For dessert we had the Tiramisu that was sumptuous. We can't begin to say how much we loved this dining experience! Our hotel concierge recommended La Pentolaccia. Being Americans, we dined early. By the time we finished, 3 hours later, the place was packed with locals. Our party dined on the Osso buco, cacio y peppe, carbonara, seafood pasta special, eggplant parmigiana etc...starters, wine and dessert! Ah, and limoncello to top it all off! Everything was amazing. The owner Vincenzo came out and talked a bit, as did the chef. Our server, Manny was excellent. We decided to visit again at the end of our trip for a Birthday/Anniversary celebration. The table wine, housemade Tonnarelli with artichokes and crunchy Amatriciana bacon, perfectly executed lasagna with housemade pasta, and their panna cotta were so amazingly good, we would come here every night if we could. The sea bass with crispy potatoes was raved by a foodie at a table adjacent to us. Outdoor dining is an option on a warm night. I would recommend making a reservation since they do reserve the good tables for you that way, but they do take walk-ins. read more

A great spot for a non-touristy dinner. Walking away from the more busy spots, this restaurant is great! The owner of the place is so lovely, and sweet too. I personally had the carbonara- a wonderful introduction to one of Rome's three main pasta's (carbonara, caccio e pepe, and amatriciana). The standouts of the place though is definitely it's desserts. The tiramisu might be the best tiramisu I've had in Rome. I don't have a pic of the before (we ate it too fast), but have a video of the after. We also had the semifreddo, which I've never had before, but it was absolutely delicious. Beautiful restaurant! Amazing device the wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive! Close to the hotel we stayed at and had great reviews on Yelp so mom and I decided to send it. Cacio e Pepe was not the best we had while in Rome that's easy to say but if u let the dish sit a bit it is quite tasty! Probably the 3rd best Cacio we had while in Rome so it was pretty freaking good and you better believe I ate every bite lol. Simple food that should cost way more than it does. The pizza and pasta were delicious and the servers were amazingly helpful and attentive.

Ever had a restaurant experience so good you don't want to leave? That was us at La Pentolaccia. The service from Maninder was over the top and every course of the food was scrumptious. We set out at 5:45 pm, planning to visit another restaurant but discovered it was closed until 8 pm. As we walked by La Pentolaccia, Maninder was setting tables and invited us to visit. It would be hard to pinpoint our very favorite item, everything was amazing! We enjoyed a prosciutto and mozzarella starter, the lasagna first course, and main courses of veal saltimbocca and veal with artichokes. Exquisite all around, with tasty bread (freely replenished) as an accompaniment. With the meal, we enjoyed a full bottle of Donna Olympia 1898 Bolgheri, 2020 vintage. Despite its youth, this wine was flavorful and smooth. Then, dessert... who can resist? We were glad we gave into temptation! Tiramisu was fabulous, but the "semifredda"... just plain WOW; easily the best dessert we have ever eaten. It is an ice cream like concoction tasting of vanilla, toffee, caramel, and coffee, exploding on the palate with every bite. And, to top it off, a complimentary limoncello shot for each of us. All of this totaled up to an incredibly reasonable €129. Suffice to say we are delighted that the other restaurant happened to be closed. Not a doubt that when in Rome, we will return to La Pentolaccia. Highly recommend that you try this little gem of a restaurant. read more

Highly recommend this fabulous and delightful restaurant. To be honest, everything on the menu looked delicious. Our group started out with the Parma ham with Buffalo mozzarella and Beef carpaccio with rocket and flakes of parmigiano. Absolutely the best!! For the main course we had the Sea Bass in potato crust, Sliced beef with porcini mushrooms, Spaghetti alla carbonara. Everyone was delighted with their meal. Bolgheri Rosso wine from Tuscany was an excellent choice with the entire dinner. Very reasonably priced. We ended the night with Creme Brulee and Tiramisu. Be sure to ask for Sylvia and Mani. They did an excellent job and made the meal that much more enjoyable! Will be back the next time I am in Roma!! read more

Wonderful ristorante! From the moment we got there staff was welcoming and the setting is small and intimate with every guest having a great time. For our first courses, I ordered the gnocchi alla sorrentina BEST gnocchi I've ever had. Seriously, delicious. My fiancé ordered the tonnarelli cacio e pepe and said the cheese and pepper combo was precise while the pasta was perfectly al dente. For our second courses, I ordered the veal ossobuco con piselli which was tender as ever and again, so delicious. Fiancé ordered the filetto di manzo ai ferri with green pepper and scraped the plate clean! We shared two desserts, the panna cotta and the lemon sorbet and both were out of this world. So enjoyable! This was our first time visiting Italy and our last night in Rome, so we also had a couple glasses of Prosecco. Such a gem. Highly recommend this restaurant! read more

The concierge at the St Regis hotel recommended La Pentolaccia to us when I asked for a good nearby restaurant and we loved our meal and the hospitality. This is the type of restaurant where the owner is there and making sure everyone is happy and enjoying their meal. My family ordered pastas as a first course and seafood as a second course, all of which were delicious. There is also a good range of wines to select from for any budget. Great food at a fair price with excellent hospitality! Not surprising, it stays consistently busy but is also the type of place than a table should open up if a booking isn't made. read more

Look around, zero tourists except for the two that were with me. Great. The big pork leg next to us waiting to be carved and calling my name. Superb. After 8 days of no luck finding an Italian restaurant that serves good food and offers good service w/o ripping us off in Rome, we found La Pentolaccia off of Via Flavia. This restaurant serves excellent Italian food!!! We have come here twice so far, and we plan to visit again. We've had the following dishes and they were all excellent: duck - starter, fettuccine & meatballs - 1st course, lamb stew- 2nd course, chicken w/ rocket leaves & parmesan, tiramisu. So I hate being the guy with a low review for one dish so I am trying to balance this overall review objectively. I was staying at the St. Regis in rome for a few nights and it was our first night in Rome after making the Michelin tour at Barcelona (Tickets, Disfrutar, etc). I was pretty stoked to add the St Regis rome to my St. Regis portfolio and felt I would as the concierge for recommendations on where to check out. They recommended this joint as a "non touristy" place tucked away in an alley and given my faith in St Regis, we made our way over. The joint itself has a family feel to it and the owners are very friendly and the wait staff are friendly as well while offering English menus. The service was quite attentive and it felt more like a family living room than a restaurant which I loved. I was able to fine the perfect wine and for entrees we decided to go with two pastas and an appetizer. There was an appetizer on the menu that was meat based and was presented with dressing and truffle on top and it was prepared like a tartare. We also ordered two pastas of which mine was the bucatini. SO I will start with the bad... the beef actually tasted fine and while it was unique it did not seem like anything to write home about. The two pastas on the other hand were really solid and probably some of the better pasta we had in rome. All the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauces were not overpowering but really brought out the flavor of the pasta and the ingredients. We decided to wrap up the meal with a Tiramisu which was also very much on pt making it a nice classic way to end the meal. SO why the 3 stars? So unfortunately the beef dish.. ended up giving myself and company food poisoning for three whole days after. There was nothing else we ate earlier that day (nothing raw, and in transit all day so limited time for food) and ended up ... removing said food from my body over the course of three days. It is really unfortunate because I think this is a solid 4... but makes me wonder about food prep in the back for certain dishes. If you do decide to venture here, stick with the cooked pastas as they certainly are enjoyable. I am going to give the benefit of the doubt that this normally does not happen and just bump down to one star but unfortunately just left a bad mark in my mind and really didnt allow for any exploration of rome for the full three days read more

This was a great find (thanks to the other reviewers for steering me here). We did not have a reservation so we waited about 10 minutes for a table, which ended up being worth the wait. It's a classy little restaurant with friendly staff and great food. I enjoyed the tuna carpaccio which ended up being a huge portion, all by myself, then I had a very good spaghetti carbonara. I've had it three times so far in Rome and this was the best yet. My wife had a lobster pasta which she also enjoyed. I wanted to try the tiramisu but unfortunately my waiter seemed to have forgotten that I asked for it. It was close to closing time so maybe they had run out. Oh well. We did get served a plate of yummy cookies and chocolate covered coffee beans. I would recommend this place definitely. I will come here again if I ever come back to Rome! read more

We came here on our first night in Rome, per the recommendation of the wonderful lady who checked us into the St. Regis (we'd asked for a casual, family friendly place and she unwaveringly recommended this place). We were jetlagged and exhausted but knew we had to eat before crashing for the night and luckily the concierge called ahead to make sure there was a table open for us. And boy are we glad we decided to go! For some reason Yelp says the place isn't good for children but we found it FANTASTIC for children! My husband and I were traveling with our 9 month old and the entire wait staff at La Pentolaccia was incredibly accommodating. They sat us at a table right next to the window, so in more of a corner away from the hustle and bustle and immediately brought us a high chair. They were all very sweet to our daughter and made for a great dinner on our first night in the city. My favorite was the prosciutto and burrata appetizer. The portion was MASSIVE and everything was just so incredibly fresh. The pastas were also amazing and we LOVED the house red. Actually I think it was our fav bottle of wine (we tried the house reds at all the restaurants we went to) all week. We had such a great experience we seriously considered going back again but given we were only in Italy one short week and there were so many places to try, we refrained. We came here on our last day of trip to Rome and this was a gem! The owner was very personable, pleasant and so welcoming. We've never had an owner of an Italian restaurant in Rome approached us and gave a heartfelt and warm hugs!!! To top it all, our server Johan was "THE BEST"! He accommodated all our requests and went above and beyond with the results in terms of their cuisine and specialties not to mention the caccio e' Pepe, grilled squid, lamb shank and the Tiramisu! Thank you so much, Johan for making our experience grand If only we can extend our stay, we would definitely go back to this place and enjoy the food and the exquisite hospitality they let us feel at that time not as tourists but just as regular diners. Another Rick Steves recommendations and you can now officially call it a Brandon Recommended too. The stewed rabbit was one of the best preparations I've had in Italy. Just the right amount of gaminess (which is to say none) and tons of flavor. The pasta carbonara was perfect. The chicken marsala was just right. We added on a .5 L of the house wine and finished up with the best tiramisu I've had in Italy. Staff was attentive and worked really hard to make sure that the language barrier was never an issue. We got reservations (highly recommended as they apparently are always busy) and immediately noticed there weren't a lot of tourists.....great sign! I had the spaghetti carbonara on a recommendation from our waiter. It was the best I ever had. The wine glasses are huge and the prices are very reasonable (mainly because it's not a tourist trap). Very bad service! 1. We had the wine menu. Me and my wife chose two glasses to order. When the waiter came, I was showing him which one I want and he says "Ya the red one i know" and took the menu away. Didn't even ask me or my wife which one she wanted; or if she even wanted one. Later, we saw him give bottles of wine to two other tables that came after us and later came back to us after he "remembered". It looked as if he was favoring the natives more than the tourist...(My bad for visiting your country). I finally got my wine and had to tell him "My wife wanted one too". Unfortunately, she got the same kind that I wanted since this guy didn't bother getting her selection. 2. He took our order AFTER he took the order of the native's tables that came after us. We saw that he was helping them decide on what to order, but that wasn't the case with us. Instead, he decided to tell us to order everything now and nothing later because it takes too long to cook. What kind of customer service is that? What if I wanted a 3rd dish?......... 3. We were 3/4th of the way done with our dish and the waiter just took our dishes away ASSUMING we were done rather than asking us. In reality, we were done because the food was just NASTY. 4. After our dishes were taken away, he said "The tiramasu is good" rather than giving us the desert menu. We already knew what desert we wanted so we told him. We had 2 bites left and he took the desert dish away without asking us if we were done or if we want anything else. In conclusion: VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO TOURISTS. They favor their native people only it looks like. Stay away from this place if you want good customer service. The food is okay. We saw two reviews that stated that the food was good and went there, but discovered that the food has no taste. If you are a tastless person who does't care about customer service, than go here. This was a great meal to end our last night in Italy. We stayed at an Airbnb just around the corner and didn't want to go far for dinner, but also wanted to avoid a super touristy spot. Saw the solid reviews on yelp (and that it's recommended by Rick Steves), so we decided to check it out. Went early as we had no reservations and were quite hungry. Ordered the pasta carbonara (SO GOOD), the grilled squid with chickpea sauce (clean and simple but with a slight bitterness from the radicchio), the chickpea soup (the noodles were the star; broth was yummy with pieces of rosemary), and the spaghetti with clams (noodles also cooked to perfection, with such a delicious buttery sauce). Got a side order of the green beans though originally wanted the fried artichoke but told it's not in season. Our wonderful waiter, Vincent, suggested the artichoke salad. Should've listened to him; green beans were ok. Were completely stuffed, but seeing as it was our last night, we indulged in the ice cream with fresh berries. Delicious.
