I've used them for mulch delivery for many years. Excellent service. The last double shredded mulch delivery was full of trash and rocks which hasn't happened before. I typically by the premium which is more expensive and will likely go with that next time. read more

Virginia ground covers is responsive, delivers fast and on time, and has reasonable/competitive prices. We've ordered mulch, clay, and stone from them. Delivery is fast and reliable. Drivers are helpful and try and support customer needs. Mulch and dirt have always been very clean and high quality. We ordered two varieties of stone. One was very clean and the other included a lot of broken/mixed stone and dust/dirt. This issue is the only reason I dropped a star. read more

Have order many products from VGC, yearly a cord of firewood delivered and dumped. Recent delivery had just as debris as usable firewood. it took longer to pick up the dirt, rocks, unusable pieces of wood, then to sack the entire cord. I filled (9) 33 gallons trash bags full of unusable dirt, rocks, bark, etc of waste. YOU folks need to oversee who is loading these delivery trucks. Not cool ! read more

We have used VGC for several years for seasoned firewood. They have consistently delivered usable wood at competitive prices and prompt delivery. This year there was a hiccup with the delivery. Scott responded to my email where I explained the problem and included photos. His response was the same day I sent the note and he committed to fixing the problem asap. Sure enough 24 hours after the wood was first dumped Scott and VGC brought forth a solution and then delivered on their commitment to solve the problem. We are not even a blip in their income statement but Scott treated us like a major customer. Hats off to a very responsible local company. read more

Called on a Wednesday to have #57 bluestone and 21A delivered the next Friday morning. Delivery showed up first thing in the morning and did a great job with delivering the product. I ordered 5 yards (7 tons) of 1-3" decorative stone from Virginia Ground Covers. They dumped a truckload of mud, fine gravel, and stone in my driveway that was absolutely unusable. Once dumped, there was no way to get it back on the truck. It cost me a day and a half of extra work to get the mud and pea gravel separated and hauled off. Even the 1-3" stone that could be manually separated from the pile was of poor quality because it was impossible to get all the contamination out. The remaining mud and fines had to be hauled off. The driveway had to be pressure washed to remove all the mud. Along with a detailed explanation, Virginia Ground Covers was provided photos of what had been delivered so there was no mistaking how massively out of specification the material was. Nonetheless, they would not refund my money. They offered to bring another 2 yards of material. When I didn't accept that offer, they simply kept my money and that was it. Virginia Ground Covers provides a poor quality product. More significantly, they are an unscrupulous company that has taken money for a product that they did not provide. Even with the photographs in hand validating his company's culpability, company president Scott Fitzwater made a written statement to a credit card dispute investigator that the product delivered was what was ordered and that "with a little rain or or a hose to rinse the dirt off the stone looks great." Got 5 cu yards of compost delivered on time. It's high quality finished compost. Their driver Rick got every last bit out of the truck and all of it onto our blue tarp. Other companies we've used have left 1/4 of the delivery on the truck. Rick actually got out and made sure it was all out before leaving and he even wore a mask. I ordered 4 yards of topsoil/compost mix and 5 yards of mulch. The delivery driver was very prompt and dumped the topsoil/compost mix on the driveway. Half of the top soil/compost mix was stuck on the bed of the truck. Instead of shoveling it out, he pushed the remaining top soil out with the mulch. So it was all combined. The top soil (or rather fill dirt) was full of rocks and roots and wire. I have spent two days trying to pick up all the rocks from this dirt. I think I have more rocks than dirt. This was not top soil, it was fill dirt with very little compost. Lesson learned. The lowest price is not always the best product. The mulch product was fine, except that half of the mulch had the fill dirt in it. read more

Whatever lady was running the front office just seemed bothered and annoyed by my questions during the entire interaction. So I decided I wouldn't be bothered giving them my business and left. I ordered 10CY of topsoil (clay?) and a few bales of straw. Told them where to dump the material. I came home and their truck ripped branches off the tree on the side of my drive (they had delivered before without such contact). They left branches on the ground, and broken branches on the tree. I spoke with a manager (?) requesting they repair the damage, trim the tree, and remove the branches. They simply said no, and the reason they hit the tree was they had to use a larger truck. They decided what truck to use, not me. Again, they had been to my house previously. Their attitude, IMHO, was too bad. Beware. I will never use again. October 6, 2020. I am following this up with a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and the Virginia Corporation Commission. read more

Called to order some bulk double shedded mulch and within 2 hours, a giant pile of mulch was on my driveway. Pretty amazing how quick the whole process was. The lady on the phone was extremely friendly and took payment. The driver was also very friendly and dumped the mulch exactly where I wanted it. The mulch was very high quality stuff with little, if any, debris or rocks. I will be ordering from Va Ground Covers again for sure. read more

I've used this company several times over the past 5 years or so. With the exception of one delivery, I have been very happy with the company. Most of the time, I use their pickup service and I have no complaints there. I think their prices are reasonable and they have a pretty efficient operation. You pay at the window, drive your truck back to the appropriate pile of aggregate, mulch, whatever and the front loader fills your bed with surgeon-like precision. Howvever, one time (the only time I had delivery service) I had a load of gravel and stone delivered and it was an absolute nightmare. The truck got stuck in my side yard, spun the tires and ripped several huge gouges into my yard literally about a foot deep and wide and several feet long each. The gate to the dump bed swung open when he tried to dump the load and hooked my chain link fence and when the operator tried to level out the dump bed, it ended up ripping up part of my fence. Fortunately for Virginia Ground Covers, I had to sign a piece of paper that said they were not responsible for damage to my property, so I was on the hook for getting everything repaired. I would have preferred the driver say, "I don't think it's a good idea to drive into your yard... things could get ruined." I thought it was business as usual to deliver anywhere on the property so when the horror show began I was in total shock. Fortunately for my sanity, I understand mistakes happen and it's only a yard; it's not like he was running over my first born. At least I have some pictures of the damage to look back on and shake my head and laugh. What a mess. It really was a MESS. I wish the company would have at least apologized or comp'd the delivery fee at a minimum.... but it was really a "that's YOUR fault" type of scenario. Really though, I don't hold a grudge and I continue to use their service to this day. My only word of advice is to make sure you get all deliveries done on your driveway or something solid. Don't let the driver go into your yard unless you truly understand the risk of disaster. I wouldn't hesitate to use the company, especially for pickup service, and I'm pretty sure my delivery situation was a fluke. read more

THESE GUYS DELIVER!! They delivered 3 cubic yards of mulch, put it where we wanted and then we placed an order for 7 cubic yards of delaware river jacks and they delivered same day. The driver even dumped the rocks exactly where we needed in our yard. OHHH, their price for river jacks was more that $700 cheaper than LUCK Stone. The staff was nice and helpful, I really was impressed with these guys. Now I have to go move 10 tons of rock before my lawn dies. read more

These guys are fantastic. Great customer service skills, great delivery times and wonderful drivers. I look forward to using them years to come. I bought 6 yards of mulch and 1 yard of compost/topsoil mixture plus some hay. Delivery was at 7AM and the driver was there on the dot and placed the mulch/topsoil exactly where I wanted it. I put a tarp down and there was no mess on my driveway. 6 yards is a LOT of mulch..way more than I needed. Next time I'll probably get 2 or 3 yards maximum The reason I am not giving a full 5 stars is because of the topsoil/compost mixture, I expected at least 50/50 ratio, it came out to be really crappy topsoil almost all clay that dries up quickly and minimal amount of compost. Needless to say, i will not be ordering that again. I have a rich garden bed outside and adding the clay mixture created a terrible upper level to my rich compost that's been building for a few years now. Overall though b/c of the customer service, timing and quality of the mulch I'll buy from these guys again and recommend them to friends and family. read more

Dont bother shooting Jill or this company an email. I did it as I didn't have time to speak to anyone and honestly just wanted a simple quick answer. the answer I received was " call in to purchase", obviously I was looking for a quote and looking to get a simple answer as opposed to calling in and waiting on hold etc etc. I then stated as per the original email I didnt have time to chat about anything, please just give me the quote. Jill then responded that whatever is on the website is the price, she didnt mention what the delivery fee would be, or simply suggest which mulch. to sum up the conversation she said she was too busy to respond with a proper email. Never minding she had written 3 responding by this point. joke customer service, and any company who would let that type of person be their face to the world doesnt deserve anyones business. read more

Customer service on the phone was good, albeit I had to call them back to arrange an order. Once through I was on hold for only a moment while a second representative competently took my order...no quibbles there. Also, the delivery driver was PHENOMENAL (I think he was Rick)...the world needs more people like him!! My one-star review though, is for the product itself. I ordered 4 cu yds of topsoil. It might as well have been fill dirt. :( Although VGC claims it is "finely" screened to remove roots and rocks, I found enough enough rocks to fill a river bed, wires, metal pieces...you name it! Just not happy with the product. Guess I learned a lesson that the best price is not always the best product. read more

After researching Compro for completely redoing my lawn, I hired a contractor to get 3 cubic yards of VA Ground Cover's Compro/Topsoil mix. What ended up all over my yard was a cubic yard of rocks because, apparently, VGC mixed unscreened fill dirt with the Compro instead of topsoil. After having the guys rake up all of the rocks, they went back to return the rest and get the right mix. What was given to them the second time was straight topsoil (obvious by the complete lack of smell) with no Compro. I went to the office myself and was told that one of the owners is the person who gave it to them and told them that it was the right mix. I will never get anything from there again. read more

I buy firewood. compost, topsoil. They deliver when they say they will. They dump where you tell them to. Most importantly, a cord of wood is 128 cubic feet to VGC. Not 64 cubic feet, or a "face cord" that you will get from the Woodchucks that knock on your door. read more

The customer service and the driver were both great, however people should be warned that their "screened topsoil" is not completely topsoil. It has alot of regular soil mixed into it so it needs to be mixed with other organic soils to really get grass to grow. Would have been nice to know that before I ordered and placed it in my yard...since their website clearly says its for lawns and planting beds. read more
