The cabinets I ordered are Kraftmaid and are themselves seemingly very good quality. However, more than one of the kitchen cabinets that were ordered by Tart for me have been too short, long, wide, etc. Bita (one of Tart's designers) brought to my house Abdou from Dahlia Design - which I was told by Bita is their preferred cabinet installer. Abdou and Bita took the initial measurements for my kitchen cabinets. We designed the cabinets and ordered them with these measurements. The total price for the kitchen cabinets was ~$21,130 (see invoice). Once the kitchen cabinets were ordered Bita referred me to Dahlia Design and told me I would deal directly with Abdou. The price Abdou quoted to install the kitchen cabinets, as well as three other bathroom vanities and a few small cabinets was $23,875 (see itemized quote) which was supposed to cover the cabinet install plus any other repair work. However, I already had contractors I hired for repair work. I did not use Dahlia Design because I did not need the extra repair work from them, instead I used another company who charged me $4,400 to install only the kitchen cabinets. During the kitchen cabinet installation, my installers almost immediately ran into issues with the size of some cabinets. The tall cabinet was too wide and too tall, the over the fridge cabinet was too wide, then both blind cabinets next to the sink were too short (width), and the seated cabinets were to long. The wood slabs that also came with the seated cabinets came too long and to wide, and Tart said it was the installer who would have to cut them down. The sizing of many cabinets was so wrong, that my installer (who told me before they did it) had to leave out filler pieces, cut my hardwood floor which wasn't supposed to be needed, double the size of the pony wall... all to make these cabinets work for my kitchen. However, the cabinet install still couldn't be completed. The pictures attached with this review are the final product for now, and some adjustments are needed to fix my kitchen. When I reached out to Tart about all of this, they basically denied any responsibility for how the cabinets turned out, followed by many excuses blaming me and my installers when my installers literally did their best to install these cabinets as is - including having to leave pieces out to get the cabinets to fit. After about a week of going back and forth with Beverly who is Tart's other designer, I finally got Tart to admit to some of their mistakes, but not enough to make a significant difference in how my kitchen turned out. I was also told that somewhere in the contract for the cabinets, in the fine print, the customer basically releases Tart of any responsibility for the measurements and that the burden is on the customer to make sure the measurements are correct. The customer being liable for the measurements was something that was never discussed between Bita and I. Had I known this, I would have insisted that I have my choice cabinet installer decided before the cabinets were even purchased, and that only my choice installer do the cabinet measurements. If you are seriously considering using Tart for cabinets, come with an installer already in hand, do not trust any measurements by Tart because they sneak verbiage into their work contract to basically absolve themselves of any liability for their mistakes so they can blame the customer... which to me screams scam so proceed with caution. When the cabinets are delivered and are not the right size, they do not automatically consider what was actually received by the customer (only after much back and forth), and instead only seriously consider what was recorded in their contract which they will use to escape having to correct any actual mistakes with the cabinets. In total I waisted ~$25,530 on these cabinets from Tart which includes the price to install them ($4,400), but not even the fee to deliver them which was ~ $200. I'll have to hire another company to come in and fix everything - possibly removing and replacing bad cabinets. read more

I suspect Tart Lumber has had a change in management. I previously always had positive experiences with them, but ordered a Marvin sliding patio door from them six months ago. We went in person to Tart Lumber and sat down with the sales rep, giving explicit details of the door we wanted, opening orientation, and color of hardware. We then paid a Tart Lumber field technician to come to our house and take measurements. Again being explicit with the technician who took notes that we did not want the door opening on the side where the floor register vents is located. Three months later the door came in and they came to install it. They removed our existing sliding door and had to remove the glass panels to get it out, then installed the new Marvin door with the opening on the wrong side (you have to step over the floor register to get in or out through the door, plus it opens to the side of the deck that has railing right as you go through the door. Plus, the handle hardware was nickel on the outside and white on the inside, when we ordered black. The sales rep even took us over to show us the display so we could see what the black hardwood we ordered would look like. After installation, they said leave this installed for now and we'll sort this out. That was several months ago. An expensive door installed exactly how we didn't want it. At first they only offered to provide us with the black hardware to replace what they had installed, but crickets with respect to replacing the door. The door cannot be flipped around to open on the proper side so a replacement is needed. Disappointed to say the least. read more

Well for review 700 its only appropriate I review this place that has been around for about as long as I can remember which is quite a ways back. So I first shopped here several years ago and bought an awesome vanity on clearance when they were moving their show room. Sadly that awesome vanity stayed with my old house. Fast forward to this summer. We had two rotting boards on the pergola of our deck and I told the husband lets go to tart since they'd most likely have exactly what we needed to get the proper sized boards. Mission accomplished we got the correct boards and they even cut them to the length we needed. So there's the lumber yard between the small hardware store and the design center, if you need wood planks or boards head into the hardware store and just let them know what you need they can price it out you pay and then the staff in the lumber yard will pull what you need. They also deliver (for a fee) if you have a large order or the piece is too big for you to haul in your vehicle. The hardware store is a throw back to the hardware stores of yesterday's times when you'd go to a local hardware place those places at least around these parts are harder and harder to find. Next we went to the design center was we'd like to get a built in desk and cabinets for a home office set up at the abode. You can make an appointment online or they do take walk ins too at the design center but if you go on a Saturday and you don't have an appointment it might be a bit of a wait. The consultation process was pretty straight forward they have models set up in their showroom as well for the visual folks like me. They weren't high pressure by any means when we were discussing the specifications my husband said he wanted to reach out to the granite guy we had used before and the sales person was like "no problem" we'll give you as much or as little as you desire, which I absolutely appreciate. This company was recommended to me by two others. I was searching for a lumbar yard and design Center to help me with a special door for our home. I was excited to learn of a local business that might be able to help! This was to be a gift to my husband who has wanted a Dutch door. I called Tart and spoke with Amy, the door designer or manager or specialist or something. We had a nice conversation for about 25-30 minutes talking about placement, design, etc. Because my request was "unusual " she told me she would reach out to her vendor and call me back. Great! I was hopeful. After three days of no return call I called again. I left a message for Amy. No call back. After 8 days of no communication I called again. I eventually was connected with Amy. I told her who I was and remind her of my "unusual" request She had no idea who I was. She began her same questions regarding what I was looking for, design, placement... everything we discussed in our first call. Obviously she didn't reach out to her vendor nor did she have any information on my "unusual" request. I cannot stress how disappointed I was. I just hung up the phone Only now have I looked at reviews for this company on various sites and found that this is not uncommon. The customer service is poor. I came to Tart seeking a new entry door. So far, I've dealt with one of the owners as well as his daughter. These are KNOWLEDGABLE folks. They've educated me about the various types of doors and entry lock sets. There were some small challenges with what I wanted to do and Virginia was able to find multiple solutions. The price for the door is comparable with Home Depot (HD carries a small selection of the same line I'm interested in) and there is NO WAY that I would get the same service at HD. Tart is going to install the door and I feel confident it will look great. I was so happy with my experience that I've started looking for replacement interior doors--I'll buy them from Tart. read more

I have used Tart for all of my lumber needs, although I ocassionally sneak to Home Depot. I counted and I have purchased and installed 16 interior doors. Plus floor molding. They are so knowledgable and helpful. I often go back and make orders with the people in the back room (most recently Aimee). I also like the fact they have a broad spectrum of sales, from the contractor building to the design building to custom millwork (not used this last one). And I like that they are local. read more

Needed to buy a bunch of 2x4x8 to finish up a fence I was building around my property. They helped me out with my order, and brought the lumber to my trailer on a pallet! At the big box store they would have made me pick from the (Much worse quality) boards and then load them back up on my trailer. Was very grateful that they were willing to do so, probably saved at least an hour of buying/loading time. Wish I had bought my fence pickets there too. It pains me to write a negative review for a local business competing against the mega-stores, but I don't think I can deny it any longer - Tart Lumber just doesn't want my business. In the past several years I've made many attempts to engage with them on home projects and each time I've walked away disappointed. I've called on the phone only to be put on hold and obviously forgotten about, I've visited the store to ask questions and been ignored or treated dismissively, I've ordered items which got misplaced, etc. They don't return phone calls and pass on messages even when they say they will. Getting them to respond is like pulling teeth. Recently I visited the design showroom to order several doors, some of them customized. After waiting several weeks for an estimate with no followup I was finally able to get through (on the phone) to the woman who took our order. She had misplaced the paperwork, and after another week or so I got the estimate - only to discover the sizes and quantities were all wrong - as if she just grabbed someone else's order and put our name on it. After correcting the numbers she was supposed to update the estimate, but again never called or emailed, and after repeated attempts to contact her, I gave up and found another vendor. Just today I called to ask a simple question about their stock which they couldn't answer. They apparently don't even know what they sell. As I said at the beginning, it pains me to write a negative review for Tart, I'd much rather support a local business that's been around for so long but they don't seem to care about serving the homeowner. read more

I am trying to start building my deck and hit with the current treated lumber shortage. I had to contact as many lumber suppliers as possible to buy whatever I can get. When I contact Tart Lumber, a sales person was helping me: her name is Emily Lim. She was extremely helpful, very prompt with the communication and searched around as well as watch out so I can get my order fulfilled. Not my good to supplier. They commit to delivering product then later tell you they can't get things. Means you end up going to other suppliers and complicating your project. Also supplied the wrong item and then no one could help resolve the issue except the original sales person who was out and took all day getting back to us. So i needed a door for my condo tried home depot it had been two weeks and no one had called us back after we had paid totally same goes for Lowes and was way over priced. Went there to get a door made....needed a slab and then cut to match my existing door. Sat down with a person in their dept. He called over to the mill yard and the guy couldn't give a day when he could cut it, not even ballpark. So the sales guy gave me the contact info of a person who has a business on the side, the whole time bashing his people. I will update my review, given the response of the owner of Tart Lumber: To begin with, I appreciate that he reached out to someone from my company to apologize after he saw my Yelp review. For the record, I did provided multiple names for the sales people to search for- the company name, the owner's name, and the customer's name. They had a hard time finding it under any name. The lady who ended up finding my order just kept complaining that someone from the warehouse had incorrectly labeled my order, and blamed it on him. So, with that being said, I am not sure that I am to blame for giving the wrong name. So I will have to refute Tart Lumber's response in that sens. HOWEVER, all that being said, the time I waited is not my largest complaint. Everything just seemed very disorganized and as as a result my service was haphazard and somewhat rude. First, when I walked up to the desk, a man who was on the phone pointed at me and put his hands in the air as if to ask "what". I am not sure how to respond to a gesture like that. When I said I was coming to pick up an order, he immediately shushed me because he was talking on the phone. Well, if he didn't want me to talk to him, why did he gesture to me??? Then, I worked with one woman, who had a very hard time searching for my order, so she gave up and had me wait for someone else. I must have spelled the company name and the last name 5 times before she got too frustrated and told me it wasn't in the system. Mind you, I was SURE it was in the system because the owner of my company had just spoken with someone on the phone. Then I proceeded to wait more. There were 4 people behind the desk, but they were apparently not available to help me, so I was fine to wait more. (There was one other customer there at the time.) When one lady, who was nice, ended up helping me, she spent most of the time complaining about the people in the warehouse who had messed everything up and "did this thing all the time." It doesn't exactly instill confidence in me when someone is complaining so much about her co-worker. So, I will stick with my original review, but add a star for the fact that someone from the company responded, even though I don't exactly appreciate the blame being shifted on me. (It seems like some tenet of customer service was violated in doing that.) Bottom Line: Rude and disorganized. Poor customer service. Husband emailed to get quote for Trex decking. No response. Called twice and left messages. No response. Went out to company in person on Tuesday 6/25 and met with Bob the deck specialist. Bob said he was not aware of the email requests and 'would look into it'. Was promised quote by close of business Tuesday 6/25 no later than morning of 6/26. No call back. Called Thursday 6/27 in morning and talked to Bob again. Was promised quote ASAP. As of afternoon 6/27 no call back (and we were told we had to order by 3pm to get delivery next business day). Not sorry to report we went with another company that gave us a quote within an hour of calling that day. read more

I needed it moved due to a conflict The lady-(Anna, I think) who sold the product to my customer met him here - in 100 degree heat and carried the product to my back yard. Smiling and asking if she could do anything additional-I was just super impressed with my contractor -and his supplier! Okay after posting my review on Yelp Craig contacted me and offered to get this staightened out about this door problem. Well the doors came in but I didn't get a call, this was because the original salesman resigned. I picked up the doors on a Saturday and noticed when I got home that some hardware was missing. I called Tart and within a half hour Craig called me and said he would expidide getting the parts. True to his word on Tuesday, Tart Lumber delivered the parts to my house after having them overnighted to their shop. When we decieded to remodel our kitchen we went to Tart for our cabinets. We started working with PJ and were turned over to Erin for the design phase. We couldn't have asked for any better people to work with. PJ has construction background and Erin really is knowledgeable on designing kitchens. She worked very hard with us to accomidate our vision and make our dream kitchen come true. My first attempt to order some Trex boards failed when the sales person forgot to submit the order. After waiting a couple of weeks for a call , I had to call them to find out the error. The order was resubmitted, but this time in the wrong size despite my having brought a piece of what I needed to the showroom. That was corrected and I waited for a call for when the order arrived. I never got a call. When I called, I was told the salesman had returned to India and my order had been received some time ago. It was clear that everyone knew the salesman was a problem and also clear they had no care for my lost time and troubles. We have purchased a front and a sliding glass door from Tart. Both were installed by Frank who is a wonderful craftsman that takes pride in his work. Additionally, when we purchased the sliding glass door, the salesperson was able to tell us comparisons in quality leading to us buying the less expensive door which had the same quality as the much more expensive one. When the day of installation arrived, it turned out to be very difficult (physically). Tart immediately sent out additional people to assist Frank, averting what could have been an expensive disaster for us. We have 5 more doors to install and we will DEFINITELY use Tart again! read more

We went to Tart Lumber in early November to order a new french door for our home after shopping at a big box retailer. We were told by the salesman that we could expect to have the new door in 3-4 weeks and that we would be contacted by someone to come out and measure within the week. More than a week went by, and we knew that the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday may mean that it would take longer for someone to come out, so we were patient. After a couple of weeks, my husband called to find out when someone would come out to measure. After he made the call, the appointment for measurement was finally made. On 11/27, we had the measurements and made the deposit. Weeks went by without a word but the check was cashed. When my husband called at the end of December to inquire about the status of our order, he was told that there was no record of our order. He was told to call the sales person. When we got a call back, it appears that someone dropped the ball and never actually ordered the door. We were then told that the door would arrive the week of 1/15. Today, 1/17, the door was dropped off at the house and it is NOT correct. We ordered a left-hand in-swing door, and this door is a right-hand in-swing. So, two months later, we are still without a new door and Tart has not followed through on a single commitment they have made to us. read more

My post says Dallas, TX but I live in Loudoun County VA. Have 3 same windows to replace in home. I literally took a window off the side of house to get an exact match. Took the window to Tart and had THEM DO THE MEASUREMENTS FOR an EXACT match of the ACTUAL window I delivered to them. They took the window out of my truck, measured and wrote up the order. I was told payment had to be up front because it was a custom window, so I paid the entire bill for 3 windows. When the windows were delivered, I pick them up and take them to house. The outside measurements are close but the inside of the window is 3 1/2" too short! There is no possible way to install these windows so take them back to Tart. They said I signed the ticket for the windows and will not refund all or any part of the cost. I would take full responsibility if I had measured the windows and ordered them. But when I TAKE THE WINDOW out of the side of my house, HAVE THEM DO ALL THE MEASUREMENTS, then I expect them to know what they are doing. Obviously they do not know what they are doing or how to take measurements, nor will they take any responsibility whatsoever. And all this over a lousy $600. Really? Will never do business with them again. I've also heard that they are much more expensive than TW Perry, Lansing, 84 Lumber and many other door and window vendors. Just used them because they were close to my location. But for $600 I can easily drive to other vendors. read more

Have been in home improvement over 20 years and know of the place more than that time. Only deal with one person in the place and that is Bucky (see better service from him than others). Had multiple issues ordering material and had junk material delivered. Had to spend lots of time taking material back for replacement mostly heavy lumber and had to deal with delivery manager's unprofessional attitude. Did complaint both times (one manager could not even care less) went all the way up to Craig the owner with no result. Will not deal with this place unless I am in a jam and there is no other alternative. Maybe Craig will get the message and I am not sure if he even cares. Bucky knows of my issues and anytime I reluctantly go back I make sure he knows why I will not deal with the place anymore and he responds "sorry it is out of my hands." I don't know what to make of it, Is he also forced to deal with the situation or that is the overall attitude of the business? but that is the best service I get if I am forced to use this place because of not having another alternative in the area. read more

First time customer here. Cashier was very friendly, advising me to go to the back counter for consultation on the wood trim piece I was searching for. Several people at the back counter available to help but they waited to see who I walked closer to before asking what I was looking for. The gentleman who helped me was helpful but not familiar with the product I was looking for, almost left thinking they didn't have it. The lady behind the counter jumped in and knew exactly what it was. Very happy my search was over after no luck at Home Depot. I come here once in awhile. They were okay until jus now. I bought some 1x4 and 1x6 two times in less then a week. When I checked my reciept, the price was different by 30 cent and 35 cent per linear foot. I called to complain about the price change and they are telling me the price can change daily whenever they restock or reorder material. I didnt see any restocks on the items I bought. Total incompetence best describes our experience. Started in October of 2017 asking for a quote to replace our all-wood garage window. We very specifically told them we wanted a window exactly like what we had; namely all wood, removable grills. Also let me say it is a straight forward window, nothing out of the ordinary. Let me just say that by April of 2018 we still did not have an accurate quote. In October, after several calls they came out to measure the window. Then we heard nothing for weeks. Kept leaving messages for Linda Keffer who was doing the estimate without returned calls. Eventually, we caught up with her but not because she ever returned our calls. This resulted in several more months of many errors on the product specifications, and subsequent follow-up calls with no response on her part. It seemed the only time I could get her on the phone was to ask for the manager and reiterate our long, delinquent, and totally frustrating experience. This happened several times. Eventually we realized she was totally incompetent, and I asked for the manager to handle our ongoing situation with getting the quote. We were giving them so many chances to get our businees. Big mistake! Should have just left them then. He then turned me over to another woman Ms. Fritchey who was equally unresponsive and incompetent. I mean you can't win when you explain all this to the manager, and he turns you over to someone else who is equally as bad and made several mistakes. She even caused me to go out there two times to see the product and still quoted me a window that was not equivalent to what we had. For example it did not have removable grills. And to top it all off, in the end she told me she could not help me because she could not get an all wood window like we requested back in October. Wow, and they are supposed to specialize in wood windows. Hello!!! We asked for an all wood window to begin with, this is what they saw and measured back in October 2017 and again in April, 2018. And just to update the situation, we are sooo glad we finally moved on. Had we signed the contract we would have received a window which was the wrong size despite TWO measurements on their part. The lesson learned is take the warnings, don't do business with an outfit who does not respond and with whom you have to fight for 6 months just to get their business. read more

Outstanding! We just completed our kitchen remodel, with all new cabinets from Tart Lumber. We have been very pleased with the project from our start in the design center with Bruce, who gave us many alternatives and suggestions and helped us decide and design, to completion of installation by Dudley. We are both engineers and have done many handyman projects, but we are no match for Dudley. He is a master craftsman with a commitment to detail and precision. It was important to him that it be done, and done right, and he made many intricate adjustments as the walls and floors were uneven. He took the time and had the skills to make it perfect. The quality of the cabinets from Tart was excellent -- far better than anything we had seen at Home Depot or Lowes. We are very happy with Tart Lumber and will gladly use them again. read more
