I had left instructions of how much to feed her, vet name and number, emergency vet number, etc. , etc. And this is after Devin came into my apartment and I had gone over everything with her! Devin texted me, took pictures and gave me a detailed description of how Mia was doing when I was gone. She cleaned her kitty litter, tried to play with her and even gave her treats! Mia hid from her but by the second day she actually came out of her hiding place. When Devin texted me that, it made me so happy! I did not worry at all about how Mia was doing by being alone because I knew that she was in good hands. I really enjoyed myself without having to be stressed out! It was so wonderful. When we call to make an appointment, they know our dogs by name and are happy to see them when they arrive. They even have taken them on short notice and have been very accommodating. We take advantage of their extra play time and grooming services when they stay for several days and have occasionally taken our Boxer just for grooming service since he struggles with nail trims at other places but seems to really connect with the guys at SB. We originally started coming here when other boarding kennels we used were full. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but you can tell by your dog's actions when they arrive whether they like a place or not. They introduced us to Canidae dog food when we started taking our dogs there. They were happy to feed them our food if we brought it but when our dogs went and stayed for a week, we noticed our Boxer had less itchy patches from dry skin. So we asked what they fed them and it turned out that the Canidae they used was a good switch for our dogs. Every time we pick them up, they are happy and energetic. We always let our Boxer and Beagle stay together in one space because they are so great together but a lot of times we send just the Boxer if we have little ones visiting for the weekend and it's a good retreat for him. Overall, we are happy with the value and service at Sunnybrook and recommend them to anyone in the Concord/Concord Mills/Highland Creek area.

I'll preface this by saying the kennel owner is a very nice lady and after the incident I believe…read moreshe fired the person responsible, the kennel manager. I believe the owner genuinely cares about animals and what happened was something she won't let happen again. I'm sharing this in hopes that no one else let's the woman responsible (who I believe was fired after the incident) care for their pets. My dog was mauled at this kennel on September 20th due to gross negligence on the part of the kennel manager. According to the first specialist who saw our Pug, her eye was most likely gauged out on September 20th but she didn't receive care until the evening of September 21st. The vet was able to tell when the trauma occurred by the state of her infected eye and her infected cuts. Since our Pug was left for at least 24 hours without care her eye became severely infected and they had to take her into emergency surgery to remove the dead and infected tissue and graft part of the side of her eye to fill in the part that was gouged out during the attack. She ended up losing most of the vision in her right eye, and was left with bloody lacerations on her face, throat, and front legs. Perhaps the most disgusting part of this was that Tara J. Riley, the manager at Animal Kennel Care, didn't care for her or even tell me or my husband something had happened for 24 hours. We first learned something was wrong when we received a call from Tara on Sunday, September 21st. That afternoon she told us that after she returned from lunch she noticed our Pug's eye was 'a little puffy,' and asked us if we would like to pick her up and take her to the vet. We told her we were in Florida and asked if she could take her. She said she would get around to it. A couple hours later she called us again and told us "It's really not that serious, I don't want you to get too worried, she just has some swelling." Two hours later I called the emergency vet who told us that in 15 years of emergency medicine she hadn't seen an eye injury as severe as the one our Pug sustained. After talking to both the vets and the owner of the kennel, it was clear that Tara had lied to us. Ultimately the owner told us 'we will never really know what happened, but Tara should have had someone else look at it (the eye) on Saturday instead of just leaving her.' We have paid $3,500 in medical bills, not to mention the time I had to take off work. For the first couple weeks we had to give our Pug four kinds of prescription eye drops, three oral medications, and one topical medication for her cuts and sores. She needed to be tended to every two to four hours. Thankfully after surgery it looks as if her eye is accepting the graft she needed. Best case scenario is she will half some vision in the outside corner of her right eye, but will need to take drops twice daily and be monitored around other animals for the rest of her life.

They have shown up on schedule and spent the agreed upon 30 minutes of time. After each visit I get a pet report with pictures, which is very reassuring that my pup is having a good visit. They change Nelson's water bowl on each visit and even brought my garbage cans from the street to the garage! After the first week I received a lovely thank you note and a treat for Nelson. Our dogs definitely require special care--one has food aggression, one needs medication regularly, one has had a leg injury during their care--but they have always done a great job.
