I took my lively, active chihuahua mix in this week for a Furminator bath/groom. The pup we brought home was in pain and obviously traumatized; she was subdued and stayed in her crate. We warned them about our pet's very sensitive front paws due to her allergies, that her nails have a long quick, and that often her paw pads and quick are reddened and inflamed. Her nails were barely a QUARTER INCH long at pick-up. Nobody listened or read this important information. I could not get an answer from the salon manager, just excuses. The store manager listened and apologized, but still, no action was taken with the groomer who hurt my baby. I've been a customer there almost 10 years, but will never take either of my pups to the salon again. It's taken 3 full days for our baby to recover; she's almost back to her bubbly self. Do not recommence this service for dog grooming! Cut our dog's toe during the grooming/nail clipping process, and the first thing they asked me was "did I pay for the service." We had to come back and forth from Kings Mountain twice in order to get the full story of what happened, and then, when asking for pain meds for the dog - the doctor refused because he "didn't know the dog's weight" when he had seen the dog earlier. read more

My experience at PetSmart grooming in Gastonia was HORRIBLE! I will never bring my dog back there. My dog was skinned! the incompetent groomer Kelsey claimed my 9 month old dog was matted as if he was a stray dog. My dog is very well taken care of and the way she cut him was animal abuse! The next day I took him to his veterinary and she said to cut him bald was very unnecessary. And to be charged $85 for this horrifying service is insane. They have 2.5 stars for a reason. The grooming took a while (my puppy only needed a bath, his ears cleaned, and his nails trimmed and it took three hours), and the pickup process took forever. I had to stand in line to get a piece of paper to pick him up, take the piece of paper to the register to pay, then stand in the same line again to actually get the dog. It wouldn't take an operations expert to improve that process. Furthermore, he wasn't very clean. His nails were trimmed well and his ears were fine, but he had poop and some other substance stuck in his fur in multiple spots that he DIDN'T have before. He literally got dirtier than when I dropped him off. I only went here because I had a free coupon offer: you get what you pay for. read more

I like the Gastonia, NC PetSmart, the staff are always helpful and friendly. The only negative is staffing. The checkout line is always long because they only have one cashier. Does this happen because they have job openings but nobody applies to work there? Or is this corporates idea of cutting back on cost? Either way it is annoying to stand in the long checkout line, but that is not the fault of the employees that work there. That cashier probably wishes there was another cashier to help when the checkout line is so long. read more

My review is for their grooming department. I am normally weary of giant pet store groomers. In our past experience they've been less than great, exerting just enough effort to cash that biweekly paycheck. However, my husband booked this appointment and we were so lucky to get a groomer who seems to love his job! As soon as we took our big girl in, he began soothing her since she was pacing around nervously. We explained that we understood Great Pyrenees don't get shaved but asked if he could do that for us. He thoroughly inspected her and found she was matted in some places and agreed that shaving her would be necessary. When we picked her up later that evening, she looked great! There were no razor burns like others had left before, he followed our instruction on leaving her tail alone (she's a very self conscious lady!), and her coat was evenly shaved. He is also the first person to recommend us to a vet for nail trimmings. We've known she has some anxiety around her paws but no one has offered us an alternative before. We are so grateful! I was nervous the entire appointment that she wouldn't do well, but now I know this specific groomer is someone I can trust with my fur baby. I will have to update when I remember his name, because I forgot it!! read more

I took my standard poodle to be groomed by Kaylee yesterday in Gastonia, NC. When my husband came home from work, he yelled out, "What the he** happened to him??!" Yes, it's THAT bad. I said I wanted him to have an all over 5/8" trim, clean face, top of his head left the way it was, and NO to shaved feet. Let's start at the top: She did the "clean face", but there are tufts of hair all over that I've been having to cut. I don't mean a stray hair or two, that's understandable and easy enough for the groomer to miss... I mean *clumps* of hair up to 1" long (all over him, actually, especially legs, feet, and face). How do you miss that on a clean face? On the side of his face, he's shorn all the way up above his ear on one side and left fluffy on the other side... I don't even see how it's possible for it to be as bad as it is from a professionally-trained groomer, it's seriously horrible and extremely noticeable. He also has a lot of long hair around his eyes, obscuring his vision, very unexpected when I asked for Clean Face. Let's move down a little... his pits are shaved extremely unevenly all the way down to his elbows (Why shave his pits? That's going to be horrible for him when it grows back!), but there's a patch about 1"x1" under one pit that was just left there... it looks like my poodle has a bulls-eye under his arm. His belly/crotch area is the same way. Partially shaved patches with areas left longer in between, I don't even see how it's possible it was botched THAT much. It appears as though his nuggets were shaved, as well, with several sore patches on his skin now, my poor boy. Since we're at his back end, let's talk about his tail. It's cut extremely short at the base, then left 3-4" long for the remainder, like a feather duster, I'm not sure it was trimmed at all. Not a good look, especially when I asked for him to be trimmed all over. On to the legs! Uneven cut throughout his hair on all of his legs, tufts of longer hair everywhere, especially near his elbows. ... and his feet that I asked NOT to be shaved? When I picked him up, Kaylee said that he was sensitive about his feet. I'd say so! They were shaved, with little nicks oozing in several places! My poor boy! How does that even happen when using a trimmer?? He licked his feet all night and is extremely uncomfortable from it! I love his cute little teddy bear feet and now they just look grotesque and awful! There is no way to fix this. I'm not sure how "I don't want his feet shaved" turned into what she actually put my dog through. Why didn't I say anything when I picked him up, right? Why did I tip her $20 cash for such a fouled-up job? When he was brought to me, he was so excited to see me, jumping all over me, that I couldn't get a good look at him until I got home and he settled down. He was also panting all the way home, and downed half of his water bowl when he ran in the house. My dog looks like someone left him in the room with an unsupervised toddler who had a pair of blunt-tip scissors and a beard trimmer. He has sore spots and nicks on his skin, which I didn't think would be possible with the tools the groomers use. His teddy bear feet, which are so adorable, are gone. His face and head are misshapen, he has clumps of hair everywhere, and this was an awful experience for both of us. At least he smells good. read more

I booked my pets for a grooming appointment 1 hour and 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time. I get a call as I'm putting my kids and pets in the car to be informed that my appointment will be canceled because it wasn't available. The biggest inconvenience and the staff didn't seem to really care. read more

I left my two small dogs (Yorkie and Shitz shu) with them from 1:22 pm to 6:40 pm and they were still not done. I literally had to take my Yorkie home not completed. My dogs were so traumatized by the whole ordeal that they still will not leave me alone. My Yorkie was throwing up for two days from a nervous stomach, my shitz shu is stuck to me like glue. I can't imagine what they were going thru the whole time that they were waiting to be serviced. I will never never ever bring them back to that place again. My beautiful dogs look like I cut their hair instead of a professional. If you love your dogs don't take them to PetSmart, they treat your pets with such disrespect and cause them to be sick and I am still not sure what happened to them. read more

This has to be the worst place to take your pet to get groomed. I took my 4 month old shih tzu here because they didn't have any appointments at the Rock Hill location where I have been taking him. What a horrible experience! First off, they started by telling me that they couldn't cut him because he was too young so I told them that I was most interested in them trimming his coat because it was really long and takin a little bit off the ears and cleaning up his face so that his hairs don't get in his food/water bowl. They agreed and took him back and told me it would be 4 hours. Fine. When I went to pick my baby up it was terrible! All they did was cut around his ears and neck and left it all choppy. It looked like a kindergartener cut some paper up. So uneven. Also, the didn't blow his coat after they cut it to get all the loose hairs off because when I carried him I got hair all over me and as I was petting him it was all in my hands and my puppy doesn't shed so I know they didn't bother to blow it afterwards. I left already and was in the car already I noticed that they cut his eyelashes! OH. MY. GOD! I lost it. Shih tzu's are known for their beautiful long eyelashes and my baby barely has any left. To make matters worst, the left side is shorter than the right side. I didn't call them because I know they were just going to apologize and nothing was going to get fixed, but I figured that giving them a bad review is better. Wait for it.......I picked my baby up at 4pm, at 5:37pm I got a call from them telling me that my puppy was ready to be picked up! I was like "umm I picked my dog up and hour and a half ago, good thing I know my dog because you could have given me a different dog". Needless to say that I will NEVER take my dog there again! Pretty disappointed. I specifically asked for my corgi to be BLENDED and also her tail too... I went to pick her up and her tail was not trimmed, NOR BLENDED. She has a long piece of hair at the bottom of her tail. Under her face and around her legs. On top of that, she was supposed to get her nails cut, WELL SHE DID NOT get that neither. Total was $62, just for her to not be groomed the way she was asked for. Never going back to this location again. I'm much more of a fan of local Pet Supply stores.. the Mom and Pop places. While this place is the box store of pets.. It is nice to see a great interest in the quality this company provides. I have never seen a cloudy fish tank. That is impressive. Like other pet places, if you know nothing about PetSmart, your dog is welcome. However, it bothers me that the customers who come here are slobs. There are plenty of waste cleanup stations. If your dog is not neutered, keep him at home. Better yet NEUTER HIM! No body wants to walk through your dogs piss stained floor or rub their clothes against the check out counter because you're selfish and allow your dog to piss and mark on everything! The staff take it with a smile.. your fellow customers do not. I feel badly for the staff - but they do their best to keep this place looking well stocked and clean. It's hard to believe that a business this large keeps such a great record of animal husbandry. If you want real quality, head up the short drive into historic downtown Belmont to Happy Dog Cafe. After walking into the grooming department and stepping in dog poop. The clerk said oh I forgot to clean that. I then wanted to pay and get the military discount, I was then sent to 4 different registers and having to get in a new line each time cause no one knew how to apply the discount. I paid to have my dogs nails clipped and filed but I'm pretty sure they were not filed due to all the breakage at the end of the nails. I have had my dogs nails filed many times and have never seen them look this bad. I've been to this pet smart a couple times and never had this bad is an experience but I won't be going to that one again. The manager apologized and said she would talk to the groomers about cleanliness and how to properly apply discounts. read more

I have been a long time customer of PetSmart and had been taking my cat (Pounce) there for grooming for years!! Linda was the Salon Manager and the cat groomer. Unfortunately she left in December and now Lisa is the cat groomer. I had not been able to get my cat groomed for several months due to Covid. With the Grooming Salon back open I went to PetSmart to schedule my cats grooming appointment. I had always scheduled on Tuesday's because of the ADVERTISED Senior/Military 10% discount. Well I was told that Lisa does not work on Tuesday??!! So I had to settle for Wednesday. Fast forward to Sunday Morning (8-2). I get a voicemail from Lisa saying due to my cats behavior issues and stress she can not groom my cat and would be cancelling my appointment!! What?? For years I had been taking my cat there with no problems. Even have "report papers" saying what a good cat Pounce was!! I talked to the Manager at PetSmart ( Daniel) and told him what had happened. He just pretty much tried to patronize me instead of taking care of my concern!! I DO NOT recommend taking your pet here as the care and concern for their customers and their pets is poor at best!! And not honoring a Senior Discount that is plainly advertised is not a good look here!! read more

4/14/17 Kayla, the Service Mgr was the most incredibly rude and argumentative person!! I was late. I had the time wrong. She continued to argue w me and treat me and "the dog" like she was doing me a favor. I got the manager, Corey, of PetSmart and decided to give them another chance. We walked back in and when she finally acknowledged me, "oh so now u decided to have ur dog done"? The mgr tried to quiet her but she continued. She told me how it doesn't matter what the customer says, but matters what she says, because she is the manager there. She insisted she was not rude to me, and said I should've called her before coming down. Of course, she called me telling me I was late and I tried to call her back, waiting five minutes for someone else to answer the phone with the message to tell Kayla that I am on my way. The last straw was when I said, I do not want her doing the grooming and that she walked away, she said, "then he won't get groomed" Corey, manager, was a bit shocked and I said I will never set foot in the place again. read more

Highly Disappointed. I took my dog into the Grooming for a basic bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, etc. He is short haired and did not need ANY trimming. I made an appointment for him at noon. We got some lunch and came back. At 1:30 they had not even started on him yet. I asked how much longer, and they said an hour. I went to the house and waited on them to call. They did not call me until after 5pm. I think 5 hours is a little ridiculous considering they were not busy AT ALL and most of the workers were just standing around talking. I will not take him there again. They are also very rough with the animal and will pick the little ones up by their legs. The staff was not very friendly, and somewhat rude. I enrolled my Gidget in the Beginning Training class with the intention of her being a Therapy Dog. She passed the class with flying colors. The Intermediate Class was beginning immediately but I had company coming from out of town and would miss 2 classes. Tara communicated with me that she would have another class on Sun, Nov 12 which was perfect for me. I went into PetSmart last Friday to enroll Gidget and pay for the class. The only thing scheduled on the 12th was another Beginning Class. I texted Tara and she said she had to move the class because she had to do makeup classes. This didn't set well with me. It's not my fault that someone couldn't make a scheduled class. Her schedule showed another Intermediate class to begin after Thanksgiving. Evidently there is no guarantee that class will be held either if she needs to cater to others who couldn't stay on the class scheduled dates. I will NOT be bringing Gidget to any more classes at this PetSmart location and will be very leery of any other locations. read more

Talked to Daniel on the phone. I told him I lived near an hour away, but while visiting my mother 3 months earlier, I fell in love with and bought a $400 pied ball python. It appeared to do well for 3 weeks, but then went off feed. Being an experienced keeper of over 15 year, I know that these thing happen and do not usually warrant worry. I was extremely distraught to find my new python dead less than 2 weeks off feed, something that should not happen. Another store said they could not refund due to the time frame but would offer a discount on a future snake. I mentioned all of this to Daniel, along with a rough budget I had. He told me to find the receipt, make sure his store was the original store and to come see him and he'd take care of me. I drove an hour to see him with receipt in hand only to find he was on lunch. I explained my situation to the MOD to which he stated there was nothing he could do, that if I talked to Daniel, Daniel would have to honor a deal. I waited an hour and a half in the store to finally talk to Daniel, who very quickly stated the best he could do was 25% off (which with a price increase, was almost the same as what I paid for the original). I told him this wasn't in the budget I stated, that I had $300 in my pocket to which he replied walking off that it was the best he'd offer. Gave petsmart over $1000 of business around Christmas but will not be a future customer with this issue. read more

The grooming salon customer service sucks!! I provided the rabies paperwork upon request to service my puppy. Went back 2 months later to get a full bath and haircut service and apparently the paperwork was not in the system. How is it my fault that your staff can't keep records filed correctly? They verified that my dog had received a service before which means the paperwork was provided since they do not operate unless proof of rabies shot is provided beforehand. The manager was not rude, but did not even offer anything for the inconvenience. The girls were rude and when asked to call a manager, she just stated: He just going to give you a free service for next time. Well, that was not the point AND he didn't do it anyways. I WILL NOT BRING MY PUPPY THERE ANYMOR! I even had her in Puppy class and had spent a significant amount of money there. Forget it! You just lost my service. Petco it is now! - I feel so offended.
