When you hold it to your face, then it makes sense
Shirley J.

Bought a Groupon for this place for a wine glass painting class on a Sunday afternoon. The class is two hours long, but they give you just a tad bit of time to finish and clean up after. Just don't overstay your welcome since there's usually another class to follow. Although they recommend to arrive 30 minutes early, it's not necessary. I got there at 11:35am and was the first person there. People started rolling in around 11:50am. During the time I waited, I was able to marvel at the artwork surrounding me that included paintings, decorated wine glasses, candles, and sculptures. It's BYOB and BYOS (bring your own snacks). What's nice is that they provide cups, a fridge, utensils, and napkins for you. They use the foam plates for paint, but I'm sure you can just grab one for your snacks. I didn't bring alcohol though since I wanted to draw straight lines instead of squiggly ones. The work area is pretty small, but they have two main sections. I picked an unlucky seat because the girl behind me sat in a chair that spilled a bit into my area. So it was difficult for me to get in and out comfortably, which made me move my chair to the end of the table. My only recommendation would be to space the tables just a bit further apart from each other if they're back-to-back. I like that they have a shelf full of paint, plates, and napkins that you can take freely. I definitely ended up using four plates for painting. Unlike canvas painting classes, this wine glass painting class allows you to freely paint to your heart's desire. You're allowed to take one of the many wine glasses displayed on the shelves to serve as inspiration or copy. I used Google images as inspiration and made mine a gift. The instructor, Carlos, was very helpful, patient, and personable. He's also a very talented artist, and you can see his artwork hung on the wall or displayed on a shelf. This was a fun and enjoyable experience, and I would love to come back to try one of their other classes. They offer classes for soy candles, ceramics, kids painting, couples painting, wine glass painting, canvas painting, charcoal drawing, male nude drawing, and private parties.

I saw this deal on Groupon and purchased it. I'm always looking for fun and excited things to do by myself, with family or with friends. I decide to use this deal with my son for our mother & son date. I was told to get there early to set up. We get there early and the door was locked. Thank goodness there was a nice seating area outside. The host pulls up in her car running a little late. Social distance was in place. You had to wear a mask at all times. Except when you were eating or drinking. The tables were section at 6ft. I forgot to mention the important part of the candle making class it's B.Y.O.B. You can bring your own snacks and favorite drink. We had some nice chill relax music. Beautiful art work along the studio wall. Enjoyable spot to come for any occasion. I really had a great time as always with my son. We both created some wonderful scents and colors for our candles. Glad I bought this deal and was able to share this experience with my son.

Great mother's day gift! Definitely will be doing this again! Thank you Hailey for hosting our virtual art class.

I planned a painting class event for my birthday this past Saturday at VIP Paints and it was really fun! There were 18 of us, and we all had a pretty fun experience. It's BYOB, which makes painting a lot easier! The staff was really friendly and our instructor was really helpful and nice. Planning the event was really easy as well. You need 6-22 people, it was $35 a person, and they send you a link where your friends can purchase their tickets. I would definitely recommend VIP Paints for a painting class or a private event!

If I could rate this 10 stars I definitely would! What a fun and creative way to spend time with friends! I didn't know what to expect but Delilah and Jose exceeded all of our expectations! Delilah was warm, inviting and hospitable! Jose our instructor was so friendly and patient helping all of us along the way! My boyfriend was super stoked when he came home and saw my piece and wants to come with next time! Can't wait to do this again, thanks Delilah & Jose!!!

I had a blast! First time painting on canvas and something other than stick figures. I was happily surprised at my finished product. The instructor was patient and detailed. I was able to follow him even after having a few glasses of wine. The only downside is that there was another group in the back of the studio painting wine glasses and they were very loud at times to the point where we couldn't hear the instructor.

I had a Groupon that was expiring soon, so I called and left a message about scheduling a day and time. I received a call within a day to confirm. Haley was the instructor and she greeting me with the warmest smile. I told her about the significance of my candle and she helped me pick out the perfect color. Haley was patient with everyone, despite having to tell a few people the same thing more than once. My candle was perfect! It marked my 5 year ovarian cancer anniversary and I was so satisfied with the teal color. I had the best time on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

They really have a wide selection and great time options in the evenings for those who work 9-5. 12 years later I still use the garlic grater I made in a sculpting class. Prices are expected, but reasonable for what you get. Teachers are awesome and work with you to help you learn, even if working with clay isn't your thing (I learned quickly it wasn't my thing). But it's still fun to try something new! In the heart of Ravenswood easily accessible by the el, and they do have parking if you drive. Definitely check out this gem if you haven't yet.

No matter how you define yourself, you belong here!" When Daughter told me that she had just registered for a "Beginning Wheelthrowing" class at Lillstreet, I did not know the art center. However, I had always been curious about wheelthrowing and wanted to finally learn about it, so I registered too! We both registered for a 10-week class that met once a week in the weekend. It had been a fun 10 weeks! Well, we had missed 2 classes for our unexpected trip to Europe, but we were fortunate that we could make up work by going to "open studios" that are available only to current students. Our teacher Jen FitzGerald has 25 years of experience in ceramics. Both Jen and the class assistant, Kim, are very kind, welcoming, and encouraging. Jen always has solutions to whatever problems that we might have. After she made a demonstration throwing on the wheel, she would go around the classroom to see how everybody was doing with her own work. It was especially helpful during the first couple of classes that Jen came by me and helped me one-on-one to overcome the hurdles that I had. After I "mastered" the techniques, wheelthrowing is relaxing and fun. Glazing pottery has been a lot of fun too! Looking for our fired glazed work on the common shelves is like Christmas! There have been nice surprises of how the glazed work turned out! Now both Daughter and I have made a bunch of cups, mugs, and bowls that we are proud of. Like a lot of the students at Lillstreet, our passion for ceramics have been ignited, this class won't be the last! Lillstreet Art Center not only offers a lot of different art classes for all levels, it also hosts private events like birthday parties, and one-time workshops that you can test the water and have some fun. There is a gallery/gift shop that features a lot of one-of-a-kind creations from teachers and students, most are really sophisticated and professional, and inspirational too! There is a small café that you can enjoy local baked goods. We had tried the almond croissants which were very good. Our teacher Jen is having a Lounge Show "Mudweaver Ceramics" in the cafe, from November 1 to 30, 2024. The show showcases some very amazing ceramic art that looks like woven baskets! Come see the show if you can! Closing reception is on Friday, November 29 at 6:00 PM.

Living in Wicker Park, I intentionally spend more money at neighborhood businesses because I want to support the community behind them. That's why I purchased a ring here for $34. Later, I found what appears to be the identical ring on Temu for $3.20. The price difference isn't what bothered me. Local businesses need to make money. What bothered me was believing I was supporting a unique local boutique, only to discover what appears to be a mass-produced item readily available online. Maybe some items here are made by local artists. I hope they are. Too bad the owner wasn't there when I stopped in, because this is feedback I would have preferred to give directly. Whether the response to this review is that the ring isn't from Temu, that retail markups are normal, or that other products in the store are locally made, the underlying concern remains the same: customers who choose to shop local deserve transparency about what they're actually supporting. That's what makes this so disappointing.

Pros: the instructor was helpful, informative, and very kind (the only reason i gave this 2 stars instead of 1). the experience was fun and i got to create a bowl (a $50 bowl if you pay cash, paid $100 for two) Cons: there wasn't a FAQ message before the class so i didn't know what to bring (or to cut my nails). the class was overbooked so the instructor was bouncing back and forth between two rooms so the class went way over the end time and we missed our dinner reservation. we also didn't receive any updates on our bowls and it had been 6 weeks. i tried to call but no answer and can't leave a voicemail because the box is full. it feels like after the experience, they sorta ghost you. you have to be the one to follow up twice which i found annoying. i had also gone to pick up my bowl because they said it was ready and when i got there it wasn't ready. had to go back again a week later. in all, i won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend it to others.

From the start, the instructors were welcoming and did a great job walking us through each step of the process so we felt comfortable, even as total beginners. We loved getting to pick our colors (the selection wasn't huge, but there were still some really pretty options), and then actually working with the molten glass was so cool. The process of dipping the rod into the furnace, gathering the glass, shaping it, and then blowing it into a bowl was fascinating and surprisingly hands-on. The instructors guided us through each step, helping with timing and technique while still letting us feel involved in creating our piece. It made for such a unique and fun date night, and we both left feeling like we learned something new. One of the best parts is that you end up with a beautiful, functional bowl that you can actually use at home, which makes the experience even more special. The only small surprise was that you have to wait about 5 days to pick up your finished piece while it cools properly, but that's understandable given the process.
