I believe you can bring your own wine, so that you can drink and create. We did have to check in when we arrived. The staff was wonderful with helping everybody. My daughter loves to draw so I figured I need to expose her to painting. I am a clean freak and I am not going to allow paint in my house so i figure I should let her have a day outside my house where she can learn how to paint using oil paint. After a bunch of research, I found this place. It's close to our house so it's definitely a plus for me. The teacher really showed how to draw a good drawing line. My daughter who is a perfectionist, was able to calm her nerve and accept the fact that nothing is ugly when you make a painting. She loved the class so much that she asked me to take her here again. This place is pretty cool. I've heard and seen pictures of people going to "sip n paint" parties over the years, this appear to have become a very popular type of outing and now I see it has evolved from just painting to ceramic and candle making as well. The concept is a good one. It's a creative, thinking, using your imagination, type of environment, which I wholeheartedly support in this day n age when people are so caught up in cellphones, texting and social media. There is a disconnect in our world these days and this place allows you to connect with people and unplug and interact/talk to actual people and use your creative juices. My daughter was invited to a kiddie version of the adult paint party and it was a great time. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. They allow you to bring in your own food and beverages, which is great. My daughter had a really good time with her friends making her little masterpiece. All the kids did a great job and they were kept engaged. Their pieces came out great! I mean these 6 year old paintings looked GOOD! Not sure of the actual cost, but I heard they have Groupon deals or have had them in the past for a good price and I also overheard the birthday girl mother tell another parent it was $30-$35 a kid, so that is kind of costly if you have a really big group, but from what I usually see the groups are pretty small and in the 6-8 person/kid number at the table. Overall fun/cool spot and now I'm trying to find someone to invite me to an adult one for their party now..LOL! read more

Bought a Groupon for this place for a wine glass painting class on a Sunday afternoon. The class is two hours long, but they give you just a tad bit of time to finish and clean up after. Just don't overstay your welcome since there's usually another class to follow. Although they recommend to arrive 30 minutes early, it's not necessary. I got there at 11:35am and was the first person there. People started rolling in around 11:50am. During the time I waited, I was able to marvel at the artwork surrounding me that included paintings, decorated wine glasses, candles, and sculptures. It's BYOB and BYOS (bring your own snacks). What's nice is that they provide cups, a fridge, utensils, and napkins for you. They use the foam plates for paint, but I'm sure you can just grab one for your snacks. I didn't bring alcohol though since I wanted to draw straight lines instead of squiggly ones. The work area is pretty small, but they have two main sections. I picked an unlucky seat because the girl behind me sat in a chair that spilled a bit into my area. So it was difficult for me to get in and out comfortably, which made me move my chair to the end of the table. My only recommendation would be to space the tables just a bit further apart from each other if they're back-to-back. I like that they have a shelf full of paint, plates, and napkins that you can take freely. I definitely ended up using four plates for painting. Unlike canvas painting classes, this wine glass painting class allows you to freely paint to your heart's desire. You're allowed to take one of the many wine glasses displayed on the shelves to serve as inspiration or copy. I used Google images as inspiration and made mine a gift. The instructor, Carlos, was very helpful, patient, and personable. He's also a very talented artist, and you can see his artwork hung on the wall or displayed on a shelf. This was a fun and enjoyable experience, and I would love to come back to try one of their other classes. They offer classes for soy candles, ceramics, kids painting, couples painting, wine glass painting, canvas painting, charcoal drawing, male nude drawing, and private parties. read more

I found out about this gem on Groupon. My boyfriend and I came for a candle making class and it was soooo much fun! We got to make our pretty, scented candles while making new friends. It's BYOB so drink up! The establishment is filled with beautiful black art :) The only suggestion I have is to play some 90s R&B or Jazz to really set it off! read more

I saw this deal on Groupon and purchased it. I'm always looking for fun and excited things to do by myself, with family or with friends. I decide to use this deal with my son for our mother & son date. I was told to get there early to set up. We get there early and the door was locked. Thank goodness there was a nice seating area outside. The host pulls up in her car running a little late. Social distance was in place. You had to wear a mask at all times. Except when you were eating or drinking. The tables were section at 6ft. I forgot to mention the important part of the candle making class it's B.Y.O.B. You can bring your own snacks and favorite drink. We had some nice chill relax music. Beautiful art work along the studio wall. Enjoyable spot to come for any occasion. I really had a great time as always with my son. We both created some wonderful scents and colors for our candles. Glad I bought this deal and was able to share this experience with my son. read more

I planned a painting class event for my birthday this past Saturday at VIP Paints and it was really fun! There were 18 of us, and we all had a pretty fun experience. It's BYOB, which makes painting a lot easier! The staff was really friendly and our instructor was really helpful and nice. Planning the event was really easy as well. You need 6-22 people, it was $35 a person, and they send you a link where your friends can purchase their tickets. I would definitely recommend VIP Paints for a painting class or a private event! read more

I had a blast! First time painting on canvas and something other than stick figures. I was happily surprised at my finished product. The instructor was patient and detailed. I was able to follow him even after having a few glasses of wine. The only downside is that there was another group in the back of the studio painting wine glasses and they were very loud at times to the point where we couldn't hear the instructor. read more

I had a Groupon that was expiring soon, so I called and left a message about scheduling a day and time. I received a call within a day to confirm. Haley was the instructor and she greeting me with the warmest smile. I told her about the significance of my candle and she helped me pick out the perfect color. Haley was patient with everyone, despite having to tell a few people the same thing more than once. My candle was perfect! It marked my 5 year ovarian cancer anniversary and I was so satisfied with the teal color. I had the best time on a rainy Sunday afternoon. read more

I took a soy candle making class over the weekend. Unfortunately our experience was very poor and I do not recommend taking this class. Our experience was as follows: We arrived 5 minutes before the class started, and some basic instructions had already been delivered. No big deal, honestly, there was not much to catch up on. We had to pick a color chip and a scent for our candles. The class was scheduled for 1-1.5 hours, so we were expecting a more advanced project. Basically, after melting the wax, adding the color chip and scent, we simply poured the wax into a jar. Yes, that's all folks. The instructors were barely present as they were setting up for the next class and chatting at the back, the class was NOT educational, and frankly was extremely expensive for two very basic candles. This experience was a big disappointment. A big waste of time and money. read more

Great atmosphere, very helpful for fledgling painters. They provide all the materials, and walk you though how to recreate the selected painting. With lots of classes, you'll easily be able to find a painting that you like. They even have romantic-themed paintings for couples and dates, which makes for a nice, relaxing enjoyable night where you are literally creating memories. My only words of advice, don't bring a perfectionist. Have fun with it and make it your own. BYOB should help in both these areas. read more

LOVED coming here for my first painting class! The instructor made it really easy to follow along and never made anyone feel like they didn't have a good product going, or were too slow. I went to VIP paints this afternoon with a group of friends using a Groupon we had all purchased. The class was great, easy, and the fact that it's byob is awesome. The only downside was when we were trying to register for a class, the website wouldn't accept our groupon number so that was a bit frustrating, especially because the classes were filling up so quickly. But I immediately contracted the owner, Delilah, who was so great at taking our registration via email and confirming our class registration. They do have two classes going on at one time so its a bit hard to hear the instructor but since its a pretty easy class, it wasn't that big of a deal and he was walking around if you needed help, as were other employees. I am definitely going to go back to VIP Paints in the near future! read more

Overall, a cute spot in Pilsen that seems to have potential. Maybe I took the wrong class, but it was a deal and I am always down for a good deal! We had our team off-site here to make soy candles. The class was 90 minutes and they suggest you are there about 30 minutes early . . not sure this is necessary unless you are super picky about the apron, scent or color you want. In case you were curious, candle making is not rocket science. . . you melt some wax, toss in a scent and shabam, shaboom, a candle is born. With this being said, our instructor wasn't too sure on the whole process; she was clearly new to the candle making game and had a hard time answering what seemed to be routine questions. Pro Tip: This place is BYOB so bring some B. Also being some B as in buddies you like to hang with to watch wax dry! read more

Byob, could bring snacks, had a fridge for our cheese (necessity!), and oh yeah the painting instructor and owner were both amazing Overall, the owner was super nice, eager to please, gave us a tote bag to carry out our paintings, didn't mind us staying late, etc. Everyone that worked there went above and beyond. 1 star deducted because the system was a little finicky and I couldn't pay online (had to call and give my credit number) and the class started a little on the late side but overall we had a really fantastic experience and I can't wait to come back!! read more

Worst painting experience ever. Wish I could give this zero stars. I went with a group of girls for part of a bachelorette weekend and due to a mix up in the address, we arrived 30 min late... That was our fault- we read the wrong location. But the comments we received upon showing up late were ridiculously inappropriate. We were told that we were super late and thus would not be able to catch up to the group due to the painting being very difficult. All that was completed by this point was green grass and a blue sky. Teachers were also super unhelpful. A friend asked the teacher for advice on how to improve her painting and the woman just said 'it looks fine' without offering any help. Later, I asked for more paint because I ran out of the colors I needed. I was given an eye roll and told that I was wasting too much paint.... Last I checked I had paid for this class ... Not to mention paint does not cost much. Would never ever go back to this place. Much rather go to a place that is friendly and actually helpful like Bottle and Bottega. Don't give this place your business. Choose one of the many other BYOB painting places in Chicago. read more

I had a surprise birthday party last night for my best friend and we had a blast. Ok so let's go back. Last minute I decided to plan a surprise birthday party. I emailed a bunch of places to get pricing. It took most places two days to get back to me. When I email VIP paints it was 5:30 on a Tuesday night by 8 o'clock that same night I had an email back. By 9:30 the next morning my event was booked and I had all the information I need it. The ladies were so patient with me as I had a million and one questions. The surprise went off as planned she won't let me come in 5 minutes early to set up. We most definitely will be back because we want to paint glasses. We purchased a deal for the soy candle class via Living Social. I was grappling with how to rate VIP Paints bc this place is really cool and the canvas painting classes are probably much more interactive than the soy candle class. In the end, our candles were really nice, however, our instructor was not engaging and didn't really interact with us that frequent. Matter of fact, I don't believe that she ever introduced herself to us. Most of the how-to information came second hand from our neighbors. We may give this place another chance, however, if so, we'll try a different class. I didn't feel like we received much bang for our buck with the soy candle class. read more

went for the van gogh session with a couple of friends. pros: 1) easy to schedule with reminder e-mails and clear directions of how to get to the room 2) free parking (currently) -- heard the whole plaza is planning on charging soon 3) will keep your wine refrigerated, if desired. wine glasses available for use. cons: 1) poor instruction -- the "instructor" whizzed through the entire painting session, giving little time for us to figure out what color/brushes he was using. sure, it's a complex painting so there's a lot to get on the canvas, but all the more reason that the class needs more guidance. AND no personal copy of the original for us to work off of if we got behind (and believe me, everyone got behind). Only the instructor had a copy he worked off of. I ended up pulling out my phone and doing my own thing. became more high stress when it was should've been more relaxing/fun. 2) cramped space -- they set up 20 spots (when I believe the max for the class was closer to 14), with our canvases wedged together, and no place for us to put our drinks. why advertise BYOB if there's no room to put it? overall, the cons outweighed the pros, and I'm glad I had a groupon, because this was an disappointing experience that I would have been much more upset over had I paid full price. read more

This was such a great experience for my 2 friends and I. We got a deal on Groupon and had no problems when signing up for the class. I've never been good at painting and was a little hesitant when signing up but it went smoothly. The instructor went step by step and at a good pace so that everyone had a chance to pain it the way they wanted. We liked that you were able to bring your own drinks and snacks. The staff are super nice and encouraging throughout the class. The only complain I would have is that the space is sort of small so I felt a bit claustrophobic. It felt like everyone was sort of on top of each other and I kept bumping into the girl sitting into me. They should definitely look into getting a bigger space. read more

My sister and I came here when she was visiting from out of town. We had a Groupon and had no problems setting everything up. We both have somewhat of an artistic background so the abstract class was really fun for us! The instructor was great with providing ideas and giving a lot of positive feedback. We had a really good time. We would of liked more time but I understand the need for reasonable time limits. If we paid full price I'm not sure the paints were of high enough quality. They were very watery (almost tempra) and needed a lot of coats. It also lost a star because it would of been helpful if they gave us some more background and history into abstract art. I've been to two painting classes at VIP Paints and had a wonderful time at both of them. Even though I am not particularly artistically inclined, my paintings turned out not bad! The instructors helped me out whenever I started making mistakes. Recently, we attended their soap & bath bomb making class and had an absolute blast.
