Honestly, nothing much good to say. It's a place. There is food. That's where the two stars come from. The lack of three comes from the fact the bread isn't very good, the "decor" is set in a post-apocalyptic bunker ft. political signs galore, the customer service... that of the DVM. A week prior we had gone to Uppercrust and wanted to try other bakeries. We got a loaf from both places and the one here did not taste fresh whatsoever and rather chewy. A few days later in our cupboard was leftovers of the loaf here and of the other bakery and the one from Vine was fully encased in mold with not a touch on the other loaf. You're better off heading to Walmart for bread 1/3 the price and double the taste and longevity. read more

Food and coffee is fine - but honestly, has this place EVER been cleaned? It's disgusting! How can this be a food service place? I'm guessing it was cleaner when it was a gas station. What is WRONG with people in Gainesville that this is acceptable? Places in the 3rd World are cleaner and better looked after than this. I'm visiting the area w my husband. 1st visit 8am went in for scones. Scones were not ready we had almond croissants. Croissants was excellent but shy of almond. 2nd visit 8:15am scones not ready Went home w almond croissant and guyere guava croisssant again a little shy on filling. Asked when r scones ready. The strangest service! Cashier didn't know the menu items or the prices on the printed menu or chalkboard. We had to coach her. She didn't understand math when providing change, and after waiting 10+ minutes and not receiving my soup, I went back to the counter to retrieve it and was met with confusion about it. Such a strange experience with that cashier as another cashier and a mature woman (owner?) just looked on as the helpless cashier tried to do her job. It took a solid 30 minutes to receive our lunch (pizza and a sandwich), which was not only inventive and different, but really tasty. Just wish I could say the same about the soup (which was presented inconsistently from table to table, depending on who served it). They're only receiving 3 stars because the entrees were really good. I wouldn't return to such poor service and filthy restrooms though! read more

what a gem! i've been living across from vine for a few months now and never thought to walk over and try something. now i'm sad that i'm moving soon and i just discovered their croissants. their gruyere croissant was good but the pain au chocolat was the star of this breakfast pastry show. it was perfectly flaky, yet crisp too. and the chocolate filling was divine. i can't wait to go back and try more goodies! read more

the cutest lil cafe ever!!!! walked in and immediately started drooling over the mouthwatering aroma of freshly baked bread. i decided on ordering a hummus + veggie sandwich which was pretty amazing along w an iced coffee. while i was happily munching on my sandwich, i couldn't stop picking up my phone to shazam the songs from the bomb indie playlist that they had on. i'd say that the overall vibe is a perfect blend of cozy and eccentric. good food + good atmosphere + good music = hipster paradise read more

Of course the first time I go here, last Thursday, it's the one day of the week they don't bake. That being said, I got a $4 day-old country loaf, and took it home to my parents. We put it in the freezer, and just now I pulled it out, toasted it, and smeared it with kerrigold's herb butter. Oh. My. God. It's one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Kinda sourdough-like, chewy, but still soft. Oh man. I also got a Swiss cheese pastry when I went there, and ate it right away. It was huge, looked like it weighed about a pound, but when you picked it up it was light, airy, and full of sweet, buttery layers. The cashier was nice and friendly, and it seemed like the business overall is a very hip, yet down-home type bakery. I'd love to go back here on another day, to try something new! Really happy with everything that's happening at Vine. What a great space for gainesville to have. The times ive been in, the staff have been gracious and kind to myself. The last time I went in one of the back of house staff popped out while a young kid was asking a ton of questions about the menu and baking. The staff member really took the time to educate. Being able to see bread cooling, and pasta rolled out. It's nice to have some of those walls between the customer and the cook pushed away, in a space with a lovely atmosphere (whatever music they had one [it sounded like Francic Bebey] was so good). The Vine is sublime! They have great scones! Not too sweet, not too bland, just right! They have muffins, cookies, and other great pastries! My all time favorite is their chocolate croissant. So much chocolate! I have also gone there for lunch a couple times, they have a limited menu, but the food they do have is wonderful! The egg salad is great, and the pizza is awesome! I love watching them make the food while I eat. It always smells like bread. They usually have music and other events in the evenings, so be sure to check that out too! read more

I was in Gainesville and decided to check out this place for a quick bite because of other reviews/ pictures on Yelp. I was especially interested in trying out the tiramisu. The restaurant looks very cute from the outside. It has a hippier college vibe. The inside seems very quiet with people reading/studying. I asked the girl at the counter for the tiramisu and was told that they don't have it and that they only currently have the items written on the menu on the wall. Fine, I saw bread pudding on the wall and asked for that. She said they don't have that neither (What the heck!). She then told me that they only have the items that are on display in their counter, which did not have much (two slices of quiche, some cookies, brownies, croissant and loafs of bread). None of these items are my usual favorite, but I decided to go with the almond croissant. The croissant was good, but nothing extraordinary. The people in my party got the brownies and cheese croissant and they said the same thing. The restaurant has a water/ coffee station that is self served. I saw a sign on the wall that says coffee refills are $1. The plastic water cups looked dirty to me and they did not have straws! This bothered me a lot because I felt uncomfortable drinking my water. Their bathroom was DISGUSTING. It has a horrible smell with mold growing on the faucet and the toilet looks like it has not been cleaned in weeks. After using the bathroom, I completely lost my appetite. I was so disappointed in coming here. I do not know what the hype about this place is. I for sure will not be coming back here next time I am in the area. read more

This is a unique local bakery with organic pastries, bread and pasta made from scratch. Even though I do not live nearby, I make a point of coming- Vine is too special for COVID to take from us. The gruyere croissant makes a perfect lunch, and chocolate chip cookies are a wonderful balance of soft, sweet, chocolatey goodness. I have bought several loaves of fine bread from the Vine folks at the downtown farmer's market, although their facebook says they are selling at other markets now. Lucky for me they also sell at Wards! The bakery is in an industrial looking U-store-it place, buried in the back. It is basically across 23rd from Satchel's Pizza. Their hours are weird at the bakery so check the website before you schlep all the way out to Waldo Road. They are calling their bread sourdough, but that does not do it justice. It is not some lame Amish friendship bread. The bread mainly comes in hearty round loaves that have a wonderful chewy texture...they are definitely alive. I've had the 50/50 and the old 85 and both were really good. The bread is very filling...it is hard to finish a loaf with just my wife & I. It is wonderful toasted, it is marvelous as a toasted sandwich, and it is a great breakfast just sliced off and plain with a bit of honey. read more

The salad I had today was very weird. They're a bakery known for bread and I understand this. However, an otherwise fresh salad with good dressing would be strategically elevated with baked croutons! Take the bread pieces you are putting in this salad and toast them with garlic and herbs. It would be phenomenal. Soggy bread in a salad is just weird. The almond croissant wasn't very flakey except for the very external layer. Inside it was a bit doughy and bland. Hummus and avocado sandwich was nicely toasted with decent flavoring. The quiche could have had more vegetables in it instead of just the top layer. A lot of egg and not much cheese. I had to salt it. I always get their cookies at the Farmer's Market and wanted to try out the restaurant. A little bit more flavor and I'd give it higher stars. read more

We tried to eat here once before. One of my work friends felt like pasta. Ok I'll eat anything twice so off we went. We walked in and it was a ghost town. Then a young lady came out of the back and said hello and if this was our first time. Looking like a couple of lost puppies looking all around the place we said Yepper first time. We quickly figured out that this is not a restaurant in which you sit down and eat. They made breads and pastas and sometimes lunches. It is more like a grab n go type of place. So today I past the place again and say to myself. Hey self flip the B,...., and let's get some pasta or a pastry. The fat kid in me slammed on the brake when he heard pastry. I pulled into the almost empty parking lot.This time there was pastries and look like they have pastas. If fact they had everything that they offer. Lucky me. I did get a chocolate croissant and it was tasty but on the dry side. I pretty much ate the gooey parts with some chocolate inners. I really do hope that the pasta is better. read more

These people have no business calling their business a bakery! I've been here twice. The first time I went they didn't accept credit cards, so I used my emergency stash of cash to buy a coffee and a sub-par pastry. The coffee was decent but my enjoyment of it was hindered by this establishment's funky hair salon smell. I returned this afternoon to get a loaf of bread for home. Once again, it smelled like someone had just gotten a perm. The girl behind the counter sold me a loaf of "white sourdough" for $6.00... For this price I had some pretty high expectations but then again the bread was so dense it could easily be mistaken for a clay brick. I was glad to hear they're taking credit cards now, until I was presented with the girl's cracked smartphone to figure out how to pay on this knock-off Square app. Imagine my fury when I got home and tasted the bread to discover it was actually a loaf of rye! Vine is GREAT. Their pastries are expensive, but that is par for the course in Gainesville and they're nothing compared to Maudes, Volta, even Uppercrust, and Vine knocks them out of the ballpark. Their croissants are flakey, buttery, crispy and soft; the flavours are fantastic (guava and cream cheese, Gruyère, chocolate, even plain is fantastic.) For a less indulgent purchase, they always have palmiers and sables for about seventy-five cents by the cash register, and they're fantastic and perfect with a cup of coffee (in an actual cup, and refills are only a dollar.) Their bread is too expensive for me, at least, to buy anything except the plain baguette regularly - which is nothing to sneeze at - but the rye is absolutely fantastic. I've been impressed by their savoury food - the shakshuka is small, but cheap and spicy and great, and the soup is very good. It's a great place to go with a friend, a book, some work - spacious, sunny, with unobtrusive, unpretentious music (really a rarity in downtown.) PS they have Square now. read more

Just after I had my daughter, I wanted to get out of the house but wasn't ready to have many social encounters. I loaded her up in the car seat once a week and went to Vine for my coffee and pastry. My first time here. Great little patio out front; probably a bit loud if trying to converse but alone so ok. Had a olive and feta quiche. It was good but still a bit cold after being heated for 4 minutes. I had a cranberry scone for dessert. It was also good but not great. A bit boring and not a rich and buttery as I would prefer. Their black tea is already sweetened too bad I prefer mine unsweet - its nice when they give you to choice to sweeten or not. All I have to say is amazing. The sweet treats, food/meals and bread are all amazing. You must get the butternut squash pizza. I was skeptic but it is now one of my favorite meals in town.
