My 2005 Honda Shadow 1100 wouldn't charge the battery at all... the dreaded Stator & Rectifier failure. Vince, who is retiring in October after 50 yrs. I went to Vince with two Africa Twins that needed a 16000 miles service (Valve Check), auxiliary lights installed and new springs on one the motorcycles, total bill $4000...After a month and a half I got the bikes back, one of them was very difficult to start and didn't run anywhere near as well as when I dropped it off. I had to put a few more accessories on the bikes and noticed that the OEM fasteners were missing in certain areas and some were just the wrong bolt and needed a washer to jerry rig the pieces together. If someone can even put a bolt back where they found it, we have a problem. I began to investigate further, he wrote down the valve clearance on the receipt and when I looked it up, it was the wrong valve clearance! I called up a Honda dealership and explained the problem and they were able to get me in right away and verify that indeed, the valve clearance was definitely wrong. Vince would say that there is a discrepancy in the manual between metric and SAE. In the end, I spent another $2000 to have the job done right. Vince would say I should have brought it back to him, but the trust was long gone at that point. I left some very specific notes on what was needed to be completed and what I did NOT want done. He put the wrong oil in the bikes, he used air filters I did not want or replaced. Bottom line, I brought the issues to Vince's attention and he did nothing to make it right. I would NOT recommend anyone use Vince and save their money! read more

recently I had need to replace a tire on my bike. after getting the tire purchased (not from Vince) I ran into a time crunch. Vince's shop is sort of in the neighborhood where i work and I thought, "This could save me the better part of an hour if I can have him balance this for me." so with my freshly mounted tire in the back of my car I stopped in. he was busy in the shop but stopped immediately when I entered. I stated, "oh good you've got balancing equipment." and before I could ask (seriously felt interrupted) I was pointedly told he wouldn't touch ANY tire he didn't sell because his insurance company wouldn't allow it. I'm not knocking him for doing what he's gotta do... but I certainly wasn't impressed with his attitude on this particular day. not sure he'll get a second chance with me. I find it kind of sad really because I generally like to support small businesses. on any busy weekday he could easily save me an hour in round trip travel time to the dealership I'd normally do business with. read more

I got ripped off in a motorcycle trade, and I had to go to Vince's since my broken bike was from the 80s. Vince is a nice enough guy (although his sense of humor is often awkward), but I was semi-taken advantage of, as was a friend of mine. He stayed within the estimates for me, but this did not include the $400 more of immediate work the bike needed, and he did not consult me about that beforehand. He sent me off with a bike that was not OK to drive, and it did indeed break down within 2 miles of the store due to a "new" problem they hadn't encountered because they had not even taken it around the block to make sure things were working. At the time it seemed like an honest mistake, but the more I think about how I wasn't notified of the bike's needs, the more I wish I'd reported them to the better business bureau. He needs to get his act together. PS my friend's estimate went way over and she wasn't informed beforehand...something's fishy. read more

After being frustrated with two other motorcycle shops, and having my still-under-warranty muffler break for a third time, I took it the long haul down to Vince's, after hearing a good recommendation. Vince's was easy to find, and he was super friendly and told me everything I needed to know. I left my bike with him, and he did some research, and found out that this was a common problem, and the manufacturer was making a new style of muffler that wouldn't have the same problem. He offered to store my bike for free for me until the new muffler was released. I was very happy to have finally found a place that gives great service. read more

I've had Vince and his crew work on my Royal Enfield a couple of times and they have done an excellent job. When I purchased the bike/sidecar from another dealer in Oregon who was suppose to have aligned the sidecar, they (in OR) did a horrible job. Vince had it done correctly and safely. When I was stuck with a dead battery, and no extra plug, he met me where I was stuck, got it up and running and followed me to his shop so that I would be there safely. He has been spot on with his estimates, and when something else was found to be a miss he called to let me know what it was, what the cost was and if it was something that was really needed or something that I could live without. He did my last tune up, after the break-in period and did a great job. The bike runs and sounds great. He even helped me to learn to kick start to which can be a trick all in its own. I will continue to take my rig to him and have sent others there when stopped by passersby asking where they can get one similar. read more

I have availed myself of Vince's services for a good number of years. I have always found him to be upfront and honest. On a number of occasions I have gone to his shop very sure that I needed a rear brake job, carburetor work or some other big ticket item only to have Vince carefully explain then show me why I did not need the big ticket job but only a small inexpensive adjust or fix. He could have on a number of occasions made a fair amount of money off of me but did not because of his honesty and integrity. When I have had to have major work done and it turns out not to be within his stated "...plus or minus 10%" range he has never failed to call, explain options and explain again. It has been my experience that it usually costs less then the quote. Vince is an honest and a total expert in his field. To be in business for over 30 years in a community the size of Lacey and Olympia speaks volumes. read more

I had my Royal Enfield in storage for 2 years while serving in Irac (military) and transfered up here from GA. Since Vince's was the only place close I took my bike in for a "check over and tune-up" A month later I stopped by to check on the progress. I spotted my bike in a corner with several others and looked like it had not been touch since I had dropped it off. When I asked Vince about it he at first acted like he had no idea who I was and then quickly made up a story that the alternater was bad and one was on order from NFIELD Gear. that night I called nfield gear and they had no order for one??? A year later the alternator failed and I decided to fix it myself. When I removed the Alternator that vince installed I found that it was a cheep "aftermarket " one and not the "high output" I was billed for. read more
