What was delivered was a take on "fish-and-chips, but two deep fried chicken patties, with french fries, lettuce, mayonnaise and ketchup on the side. The french fries were very good, But the 2nd Patty had a large bone in it! Ugh!!! See pictures. Spat it out and told the waitress. The patty was decent, not great, but I draw the line of bones in my chicken patties. The Coke was served in a warm bottle which had to be cooled off with ice glass brought-again, not a good look. I was outside enjoying the weather and the plaza, but the bone hacked me off. The restaurant failed to make it right and I had to pay for the meal and service charge . Arrived in Florence a little early & couldn't check into our hotel just yet. Decided to leave our luggages at the hotel and find a spot to have lunch. Vincanto is one of the many restaurants that is located in the city center, Piazza Santa Maria Novella, with indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for indoor seating because it was extremely hot & humid out, and the air conditioning was very much needed! We decided to just order two dishes for a light lunch before heading to Pisa to visit the Torre Pendente di Pisa/Leaning Tower of Pisa. We got 1kg of Florentine steak (€70) & the tonnarello, carbonara pasta with pork cheek. The steak was a bit too rare for my family, but I enjoyed it as is! We sent half of the steak back to cook a little longer. I've never had Florentine steak before, but it was all right. The best thing about this dish was probably the potatoes. The potatoes were so good. The tonnarello, on the other hand was just eh. Quite bland. Added a bunch of salt and pepper, however, did not help much for this dish. Charming place just off the square we stopped 3 of us for a lunch today on our 1st day in Venice. Kept it simple, with 3 lunch entrees a glass of wine, & of course the overpriced "COKE ZERO" LOL Mushroom Risotto homemade, fresh top shelf. Lovely spot in the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, perfect for our first night in Florence. The menu features pasta, salad, pizza, etc, so a very good choice when one is unsure what they want. We sat outside in the cool shade ~ the view was beautiful! The restaurant was out of several things including Rosa and the ravioli we wanted to try, so we opted for pizza. The crust was so good, thin and crispy, one was a spicy sausage ~ delicious, and the other a margarita. We also had great Aperol Spritzes, cold and perfectly made. Stopped here while strolling around in florence. The hostess/server wasn't the friendliest. Next, we ordered the beef meatballs with mashed potatoes to start and the 4Stagioni pizza with 2 caffe lattes. The pizza was a 2 out of 5 in my opinion. It was soggy from the olive juice and canned mushrooms that looked like they just slapped on the pie. The ham tasted like grocery store quality. Atmosphere - Did not even step inside to eat. They took over some of the plaza in front of their restaurant. The space is covered with large patio umbrellas, draw back the sun was sneaking under it as the sun was setting. Great for people watching while waiting and talking with your friends. Food Drinks - Nastro Azzurro and some sparkling water Dinner - Tagliata fiorentina con patate al forno (Steak, boneless and sliced, Florentine style). That was a mouthful. I have never had this style of steak before. They did not ask how I wanted cooked but it was a beautiful medium rare. Once piece, the thicker piece, was getting close to rare. The seasoning was excellent. The steak was served on top of cubed season potatoes that rested on top a hot iron plate on a wood base, fajita like. There is a thing with restaurants in Florence - you have two prices, the cheap takeaway price, and the really expensive sit down at a table and eat price. Well, this was one of those restaurants. Then again, I'm sure takeaway has always been slightly cheaper than the eat-in price, but not everywhere. Still, this restaurant was okay, and the food was pretty good. Once again it is your typical Italian restaurant, but you probably would have already worked that out since this does happen to be Italy. It was nothing really out of the ordinary though. read more

You can't beat the outdoor seating area smack in the middle of the park and they seriously have some of the best food I have tasted in Italy - and I have been here for a while. I had their thinly sliced beef baked with truffles (spianata di manzo del vincanto) for appetizers and the T-Bone steak (vera bistecca) for dinner. To die for. The servers were kind and helpful. The menu was definitely different. Traditional dishes with a contemporary twist. I had the lobster linguine and my dinner mate had seafood gnocchi. It wasn't spectacular but it wasn't terrible either. The white wine we had was pretty good. I think at this point we were happy to have a hearty warm meal. If I could give this place no stars I would. The service was absolutely terrible! There was one waiter who had a big puss on his face and refused to serve our table even though we were one of two inside the building. He gave short answers to every questions. Was impolite e.g. He bumped against me twice and didn't apologise even when I did. When it came to paying the bill I had to call over the manager because he refused to come to the table and I had to hold it down as it nearly flew off the table. The food itself was mediocre with the pizza being stranglely drippy. We got a deal for 11 euro for a pizza and a pint and the selection was very poor and you were stuck with bitter draft beer. We noticed some restaurants had an issue with that....lunch with drinks only....by no, just drinks. So, if looking for a spot to refresh, this is a good spot. Like I said, service was kind. What got me was, them knowing we were just here for drinks....after 20 mins or so, they came and brought out this bread and meat platter as complimentary. Which was kind. So, I felt like they deserved a review. But hey, John Taffer says that customers who eat while drinking are likely to spend 33% more money on alcohol than those without food. So, I felt like we got "John Taffer'd." But I respect the game. So they get a review from me. lol. This restaurant has the most beautiful atmosphere. The outdoor seating is right in the middle of the park, it's gorgeous.The service was 5 stars! The waiters were prompt, attentive and made sure we had everything that we needed. The food fresh and pleasant. The wine was great. We came here for dinner, saw the sign outside advertising that evening's four dinner specials, and we decided to order two of them. One of the special entrees was thin sliced strips of beef cooked in a balsamic sauce, with fried potatoes on the side. This dish was wonderful! The other special was pasta with clams in a lime sauce. This dish wasn't so great - the first problem was with the clams; they were still in the shell, and about the size of a quarter. Half of them had not opened up as they were cooked, and de-shelling them was a pain. We also ordered a side of spinach to share, but we had to ask for it several times before it finally arrived at our table (after the entrees). With so many restaurants to choose for dinner in Florence, next time we'll choose another one. read more

This restaurant used to be a Shawarma restaurant which had the best Shawarma's. And then came Vincanto. We were seated right away since it was a Tuesday and it was off season. The manager came over to greet us, shake our hands, kiss our cheeks and then left. Enter the waiter. Man oh man. Three times we asked for my friend's beer. Three times he said he will bring it. At least the bottle of wine came fast. And then another bottle from one of the owners. And then, I watched my two friend's main dishes come out. And stared down my empty dish in front of me as though my food would appear if I concentrated hard enough. Amazingly, it didn't. But my friend's pizza was good. I mean neapolitan good. Prob one of the best places to order pizza in Florence. My other friend's steak was excellent. I ordered the mustard marinated lamb shank with tempura of zucchini and their flowers. Which came out 20 minutes after they were served. I wasn't even hungry when it came out. This place is pricey though. And with service like this, you would have thought I would have raised hell up in there. Yelled my broken Italian all up in thuuuuurrrr. But I didn't. I couldn't. This small pace in a small plaza was refreshing. Crowded and they spoke Italian; I knew we were on to something. Gratuitously greeted and sat. After we got our basic set up and water a passing by asked if we neded anything. We said we are I your care what do you suggest. We had the pizza(5-stat!) and Parma ham with fresh Burreta cheese; oh wow! We ordered a steak as well altogether with a bottle of wine and it was delicious. Ate here two nights on a weekend trip to Florence (Firenze). First night it was white wine at the bar. The service was fantastic! The wine was great and the assorted tummy teasers kept arriving. Delicious! The last night of our trip we came back for a proper dinner. However, we were still recovering from a large lunch so we had antipastis and prosecco. All of which were delicious. The carpaccio and the "meat plate" we excellent and shareable for us. We ended the night with tiramisu, which was also delicious. I do recommend this place. Vicanto was the first meal we had in Florence. We mostly sat for the Wifi since we needed to reach out to family. I have tried almost everything on the menu and the mixed appetizers are great but I also love their steak dish. Very authentic and you can taste the quality of the meat. We were totally ignored, the waiter never stopped by, he could tell we were frustrated but couldn't care less, they were beyond slow with food/bill/water.
