I stopped at the Village Grill restaurant on Monday, July 6th. I walked in and the one server looked up at me in horror. She had several older men, sitting at the counter, no masks or anything. She quickly put a mask on and told me that you had to eat outside and that she was going to kick the male customers out. She even told a customer that they were going to get her fired. A customer said that the men there were protesters to the COVID requirements. I also never saw the server use hand sanitizer once! Now, this server is an excellent waitress but I felt so uneasy and unsafe eating there.  And the food was mediocre this time. I had steak & eggs. read more

We eat here a lot at least once a week. Everything I've tried I've liked, same for my husband, good food, good service..

My husband and I are totally in love with this place. We go there at least four times a month and not once have we had a bad experience. The waiters/waitesses are super. The food is always perfect. Just the way we ordered it. Nothing has to be taken back. They always have smiles on and a great disposition about themselves. The music they play is as well great. I really used to enjoy eating there until , I started to get this waitress that's rude every single time, her name is Anne, She's nasty, She probably hates her job cause she's so rude to the patrons or just me. But in any case she makes it a very unpleasant experience. They should have a talk with her maybe being more pleasant would make your eating experience better. To start the service was excellent. The food was good all the way around. There was 3 of us in the party. One had the chilli burger. One had steak and eggs. I had the liver and onions, highly reccomend. It is the best liver and onions that I have had in a long long time. I reccomend that you give this place a try read more

Best breakfast I had in awhile! The entrees are modestly priced. I had the corn beef hash. It was moist and not greasy or overcooked. The poached eggs were perfect. My companion had a spinach and mushroom omelette, she was very pleased. The home/country fries were very good. The service was very personalble and friendly. She was plain sweet. Ok, so I hate to do this but I don't have a choice. Unless Ivan is here don't bother coming. Every time we come in or get a to go order (which is the worse way to go) its just horrible. The only reason I'm giving them a three and not a five is because they got my order wrong I should've gotten hash browns not home fries my waitress was so busy she didn't notice and she wasn't very good at first with the drinks she got better as time went on the food was good except for the home fries they were a bit burnt but we ate them anyway the biscuits were to die for really. so yes I would go back and I left a nice tip although I did see my waitress serve people that were regulars before me hopefully she was just to busy to not notice that we noticed read more

I placed my order for breakfast this morning and we went to pick up our order. The girl that was at the front wasn't wearing a mask, so I looked inside and the other people in there were not wearing masks either. I mentioned that I was there to pick up, and if the cooks wear masks. She said yes they are wearing masks. As I'm walking in they start to put their masks on, the other girl is telling the cook something. Cook had no mask on. So, I told them to cancel our order. I came in yesterday evening alone, it was Father's Day, 6-16-2019, and I was seated immeadeatly. Even though it was NOT that busy, it took over 10 minutes for my order to be taken, and even longer, over 15 minutes for my ONE item to be brought to my table. I ordered the sample appetizer plate. So it is what it is. A diner, with the stereotypical diner attitude. They love their regulars, the rest of us are treated like the unclean. Waitress needed more sleep and a hearing aid. She was a bit short with us because she couldn't hear. Food was extremely bland and mushy. No refills on my water while the regular looked to be getting a back rub and all the water he could drink. I honestly don't understand how this place stays busy. Lackluster bland food, and poor service unless you are known by the staff. Never again. read more

A local place to eat. The specials today were fabulous! I choose the top sirloin and baby back ribs. Came with a corn on the cob, baked potato and a salad. The ranch dressing with croutons on the salad was just amazing!! The cornbread, was so authentic and big, and buttery, and delicious. My friend had the fried shrimp with mixed vegetables and the chicken noodle soup, which she says was the best she ever tasted and took an order of it to go! We didn't leave room for dessert but plan to next time! Our server was very helpful and the atmosphere was very down to earth, loved it! read more

(Except the side salad....I ordered that extra) and ALL (INCLUDING THAT EXTRA SALAD) for UNDER $20! The sirloin steak dinner is just juicy and delicious. You can usually tell if the restaurant has a good chef if the soup is good and they have good desserts this place qualified on both ends they do a wonderful little piece of steak for 10.95 with all the trimmings on the senior menu and I had liver and onions. Came here for lunch today w Mom. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and mom got the senior steak lunch special. Both were solid. The beef and vegetable soup was very rich and tasty. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered. The cheesesteak was delicious and filling, came with a side of seasoned fries. I've been going to the Village Grill for better than 10 years. I rarely have a meal that isn't great and I've never had a bad meal. Service is top notch from all the servers. I recommend the Mexican Scramble or Verde Omelet for breakfast and the Mike's burger is great for lunch. Portions are better than average so you won't leave hungry. Their soups are fresh made there and are always delicious. Prices are reasonable. This place isn't fancy, just good home style cooking. read more

We got snowed in on Thanksgiving and this was the only place we could find that was open. It is a very typical diner place. The staff were very nice and the service was good. The food was average nothing great and nothing bad. If I could give 3.5 stars I would. Honestly not a place I would go back to as there are a lot of better places in Tehachapi but if you are just looking for a quick simple diner type meal this place will not disappoint read more

We stopped here on our way home from seeing the grandkids for Christmas. Breakfast is my favorite meal but most restaurants think "vegetarian" means load it with bell peppers, portobello mushrooms or make it spicy. The Village Grill was an absolute delight!! We had the best veggies omelet we've ever had and the service was wonderful. We will plan our next trip to the Bay Area to take us by this place. I live in Tehachapi and like to dine out a lot, usually more than half of every week. I would say that Village Grill is the most inconsistent restaurant in town (so far). One time you go there the food is ok, never great, but decent. The next time it borders on being inedible. The other thing I don't like is that when the food is clearly of low quality, they still have no problem at all charging you full price for it. The waitress even said "sorry" as we were leaving. I have been disappointed by this restaurant enough that I will probably not go back anymore and I feel strongly enough about this to finally write a review. OMG! The same thing happened to my family and I as another Yelper "Stephanie" experienced. We sat down, and it took awhile for the waitress to take our drink orders. Drinks didn't come the whole 25 minutes we were waiting to get our food order. We walked out after sitting there for 25 minutes. We did try to flag down our waitress---who wasn't very pleasant about it. *sigh* I wish my review would also include something about the food. Sorry Yelpers! Hmm...so let's talk about the building. There is plenty of parking on the side. As you walk in it seems almost like your walking into a house or perhaps an old building that served as a church. Kind of hard to explain, but when we first got there, the waitress walked us to the back of the restaurant which definitely felt like it could have been a church. There are plenty of tables, BTW. The menu actually looked pretty good. I'm torn, I have to give 2 stars, not one. I didn't try the food, but looked pretty good. This place is pure nostalgia for me. I have been coming here since I was about 5 with my Grandparents and family. Its a great old diner in the middle of Old Town Tehachapi. I love that nothing has changed about this place. It still has the same blue booths, that little bar where truckers and old men sit and eat. This place has all the classics- burgers, meatloaf, fried shrimp, baked potatoes...my Grandma's favorite is the Chili Size. I dont think I have seen her order anything else. I love their house salad with homemade giant buttery croutons and yummy fatty ranch dressing. This is actually the location where my Grandfather and I shared our last meal together two weeks before he suddenly passed away. He always loved their Chicken Fried Steak. read more

Went here with my family tonight. Had the worst meal ever!! First off I ordered a vanilla malt. The malt came to me melted and tasted like milk blended with malt I didn't taste any ice cream. I ordered the avocado mushroom burger. The burger came to me burnt and over cooked the meat tasted as if it had been freezer burned and the avocado on the burger was going bad had black and brown spots all thru out it. I wouldn't have even served that to my self at home let alone pay someone else to serve it to me. I clearly was not happy and was now starving . The waitress apologized but didn't do anything but say oh we didn't charge you for your burger. Yeah you think?!? I didn't eat it you better not have charged me! Came to visit with my nephew and his family. After an afternoon at the shooting range, we wanted a warm cafe style meal. This was perfect. We were met with friendly faces and were promptly sat in a comfortable booth with fun little satire books for entertainment. The waiter and waitress, along with other staff were very attentive and our drinks never got anywhere near empty. We had the appetizer platter, which was a mixture of onion rings, mini-flautas, cheese sticks, etc. It was more than enough for 4 of us. Then, with all the extras that came with our meals, fried chicken plate, captain's platter, burger plate and a triple decker sandwich, we def needed to-go boxes. But we didn't even have to ask for 'em. April came to our table with containers in 2 sizes and we were all set. This is the perfect small town diner with all the hospitality you'd expect and more.
