We ran across the Village Bean while meandering around the state one weekend. The inside has a very homey and comfortable feeling. You can get a variety of items including a long list of coffees and also smoothies. The list of sammiches made it hard to choose. My wife got the turkey club and I got the Tuscan. The club was a standard club but something about it made it stand above the rest. My Tuscan had large chunks of marinated chicken marinated with roasted red peppers and black olives on a roll. The chicken was cooked onsite and was very tender and juicy. They cooked it perfectly as to not be dry and over done and it had the perfect texture. Sammiches can come with a choice of sides....chips or pasta salad. You can be seated and have table service, or take your meal out to the 3-4 tables they have to the side of the building and enjoy the nice day. I believe the wait staff will also serve you outside also but that is unconfirmed. We noticed a few intangibles that really made us like this place. A couple of cyclists were stopping by for a break and refreshments. They had accidently left their water bottles inside as they took advantage of the outside tables. one of the staff brought them out and made sure they belonged to them. Upon confirmation, the wait staff asked if they would like them filled with water....the cyclists were pleased and said "yes, thank you". The wait staff then added "ice too?". The cyclists beamed with approval and were very appreciative of the offering. It is this kind of just friendly and courteousness that we witnessed made us mark the location on the map. One other thing we found odd about this location is that my wife went outside to grab a table while I waited for our food. Patrons at another table immediately started talking to her....and the cyclists joined into the conversation. I am not familiar with the Chepachet area.....but it must not be in Rhode Island. I am an outgoing person that is not afraid to initiate conversation with others.....moving to Rhode Island I have found that most people do not prefer this behavior. Not at the Village Bean! What s joke! Went to breakfast Monday there had to be 6 people on staff. We walk in sit down (in front of counters ) as the waitress walks by us 3 times. Finally I get up and ask is there table service, she reply's oh sorry it was my turn I forgot. She takes our order from behind the counter, the cook brings out the food, they never check on us, we could have just walked out without paying and no one would have know. I had to go get the check and pay at counter. Meanwhile people are walking in getting menus and being waited on. Today I said the hell with the village went down to excellent breakfast in Harrisville, every booth was full, there was only one waitress and we got great service. We got a blue berry muffin which was great and a vanilla chai that was great. Where they dropped the ball was the smoothie. It was supposed to be a green smoothie. I got it and it was yellow and tasted like they just took pineapple juice and blended it with ice. It had no other ingredients that I could tell. It is a new item on the menu but I was extremely disappointed and won't be ordering that again. read more

Perfect breakfast spot for the foodie in you. Tried out the burrito with all the fixins and it was phenomenal. They even gave it a panini-like finish which added a wonderful crunch to the burrito. The sausage and gravy biscuits was also a hit. A giant cheddar cheese and bacon filled biscuit sliced in half and piled up with sawmill gravy, which itself had an interesting twist on it that I enjoyed. My friend had the Noah's Ark and he couldn't even finish it but he was also very well pleased with his meal to say the least. 10/10, would recommend stopping by and definitely will return when in the area again. read more

I've been going to the village bean since it was in the scituate village and I was 5 (or younger). I've loved then even more since they became more of a breakfast place over in Chepachet. This was my favorite "skip first period and get pancakes and bacon" spot in highschool. Although the last time I stopped in with my boyfriend the waitress forgot about us and was in the kitchen with her leg on a garbage can stretching while we were starving. I would also like to add that I am a waitress. So if ANYONE has sympathy for other servers, it would be me. I have been there a thousand times and I completely understand how the job can be and sometimes things happen and you have other customers to wait on, But this was just kind of on the ridiculous side. We waited for a long long time for our food. Not to mention I'm in there enough to know that the woman cooking is very good at what she does and very fast as well. Sooo- It was clear that the waitress forgot to even give the kitchen our order. Still an amazing place to eat though! I love me a hazelnut iced coffee. They have delicious muffins (my favorite is the coconut + chocolate chip and pistachio) that you can sample. You know what I love? Stepping into a small breakfast shop to grab a cup of coffee, seeing several plates of muffin/pastry samples, eating all of those samples, and then still eating a full breakfast plate because the samples were so delicious. The prices at the Village Bean are dirt cheap for what you get, the portions are enormous, and the service was unfailingly friendly throughout. Highly recommended. read more

Yoooo this place is delicious!! Came here on a Monday morning to grab some breakfast with my family. I was amazed how great the prices were for the amount of food you get. My boyfriend and I were able to split the The 4 B's (Big Bean Breakfast Bonanza). For 10 bucks you get pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, and toast. What a steal. And the entire thing was delicious. For all the people complaining below about price - you guys are just cheap. Come check this place out. Good food, good service. I work in the area so I have a chance to go here often. The place started off with a bang, but has gone downhill since. Lots of turnover with staff and both service and food quality are different every time you go in. Many younger girls working here who just dont pay attention when you place your order. I can't tell you how many times they have given the wrong order and seemed to blame me for the mistake. Both the owner and older woman whom take my order are both friendly and observant. I think things could drastically improve by getting the staff to pay attention and do their job instead of gabbing and checking their phones. The food needs to be consistent and changed daily (different soup each day!) during one period they had Chicken Minnestrone soup everyday for more than a week. read more

This is a very great local breakfast and lunch joint. They carry New England coffee and local maple syrup. Homemade pastries, muffins and other baked goods. Breakfast is served until 2pm which is a huge plus. Also, very creative breakfast plates and French toast and pancake varieties. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended! read more

After having read many positive reviews about this place my wife and I decided to try it. I especially wanted to because of my love for GOOD sausage gravy and biscuits. I order that with 2 over-easy eggs on top. WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! The gravy was SO watery that it was spilling over the plate when a waitress delivered it! Too bad, because their homemade bacon and cheddar biscuit was really good, that is what I could taste of it! WAY, WAY, WAY too much liquid in the gravy!! Gravy for this dish should have been "tightened-up" (thicker) and the eggs were slightly over-done and burnt on the edges. My wife's eggs were the same and her bacon was burnt on one end and very limp on the other end! I gave it 1star because of the quick service and the very good coffee. Another BAD thing about this place is after my wife and I were sitting at our table for a little while, we noticed a very distinctive moldy smell in the place. AND, when one of the waitresses was setting up a table across from us, she dropped the silverware on the floor and proceeded to put it on the table!! What the heck!!! It was a soggy Earth Day, and I was on my way home from Musical Theatre class. That was when Mom asked me, "Do you want to stop at The Village Bean for lunch?" "Yeah, sure," I replied with a grin. We pulled in the parking lot, parked our car and got out. We went in and were seated at a nearby booth, where we were greeted by a friendly waitress. We ordered some tea, which really hit the spot. For lunch, I ordered a classic grilled cheese sandwich with potato chips, and Mom got a half sandwich and corn chowder. I even sampled some of the corn chowder, which tasted delicious. The grilled cheese sandwich was grilled to perfection. The friendly wait staff and the décor make this a great spot to eat, and the price was very reasonable - lunch for two people for under twenty dollars! The regular coffee wasn't good maybe the flavored is better, but I just wanted to go home and brew a pot of coffee myself. The person with me said it was OK, not awful, but Ihop is better. Went in to this new place for an iced coffee and breakfast sandwich. Ended up feeling terrible . I checked out the RI department of Health website were you can see inspection reports for any restaurant in RI. Wish I had checked that out first!! Guess the mold in my ice coffee didn't agree with me! "Violation 14 Food-contact surfaces: cleaned & sanitized Inspector Comments The ice machine had an accumulation of slime and mold. The food contact surfaces of equipment must be clean to sight and touch." That's just one of the 11 violations! Don't think I'll ever try anything new without checking that website first! How do I start ? I cant stop puking in my mouth...so I've been here a few times with my boyfriend and it's just gotten progressively worse. Firstly it's very disorganized but I could get over that if the food was still good. I think it used to be but can't even remember now. They use bagged bagels, the ones where you can get like a whole pack of them for a dollar. Their products are cheap and then they have the audacity to charge me $25 for two coffees a breakfast burrito and an egg sandwich. I started out just getting an egg sandwich here but was disappointed that the bagels were super cheap and not actual real Bakery Bagels so I moved on and got a veggie omelet another time and it was super undercooked I felt like I was eating soupy eggs but since I heard great things in the past about their old location I kept trying and today was the last straw. I ordered a burrito because I figured they couldn't under cook the eggs in the burrito since it wasn't in an omelet I was hoping they would cook the eggs completely and then put them in the burrito. So eating my breakfast burrito I noticed it was super juicy and I squished it and all these raw eggs started popping up. disgusting. My also notice they had forgotten the hash so I went up to ask about it and I was polite and let them take their time. Since they messed up they asked if I would like some hash on the side and I said yes. When the hash came out the woman from the back came out and handed it to me and one of the front workers yelled "stop! That's not hash!"so I opened the container and looked and it was hash and I said yes it is... And she said oh never mind. No big deal but super weird communication skills. Anyway I sit down and try to make the most of what I have not wanting to complain again about the food and I start eating the hash and it's super undercooked . It's still pink it's not crispy it's just really gross. Also I should mention the coffee is very watery and not worth the price they charge. After a while trying to wash this down with coffee slash "water coffee" I chew on something hard and I'm not sure what it is and I start throwing up in my mouth immediately. It's still stuck in my tooth and I don't know what it is but I picked some of it out and it was white. The only thing I can think of is a piece of plastic or a bone. Not sure what that would be doing in my breakfast. completely completely disgusted. read more

The place started off okay, but a lot of younger girls became staff, and they are not very attentive and they tend to mess up the orders. My first time there the pancakes were sour tasting. I sent them back and then the chef came out trying to explain why there pancakes were sour. I found it a little rude in the sense that I sent the dish back, please I would like it remade. The young girls are really inattentive and don't pay that much attention. Now that I've been back a few more times I found the place keeps going down hill. read more

Had an unsettling experience at this place this weekend. After placing our order and waiting for what seemed like a little longer than necessary, a customer came in to return their incorrect take out order. Come to find out it was ours. The waitress went behind the counter with the order, took it out of the to go containers and put it in baskets to serve to us. If I had not spoken up and refused to take that order, they would have served us a meal that had left the building, returned with God knows who touching it. Beyond gross. Not again for me! read more

My husband and I just moved to the area and we were thrilled to discover the Village Bean! Unfortunately this place does not live up to our expectations. The first time we ordered, it was two egg sandwiches on bagels with LTO and the price came to $7.. Since then we have paid from $7-$11 for these same sandwiches. Prices are never consistent! Recently I paid $16 for two of the same bagel sandwiches and two muffins, this should have only cost me $12.. The food is not amazing.. I would be ok paying these prices for good food, but it's not quality. The bagels seem like they are defrosted from restaurant depot and the portions are not a good size. I want to give this place 4 stars and would definitely return if in the area but wouldn't drive up just to go here. Unfortunately I love long weekend drives for breakfast. I discovered this place while camping out that way with my boy and we wanted to grab a hearty breakfast before leaving town. The food was decent, the hash browns were AWESOME but my scrambled eggs were half scrambled with lots of big white chunks. Someone in the kitchen needs to put a bit more arm into their whisk. The other little complain I have is the kids breakfast with bacon came with 1 slice of bacon. 1 SLICE!!!!! What a tease!!! However once again the food tasted great and the hash browns were AWESOME, enough so to be redundant about them. The service was decent, the place is crisp new and clean. read more

We are business local to the Village Bean and we are always looking for places to pick up things for lunch. We placed on order today for take out and were disappointed when we opened our food back at our office. One sandwich was ordered to come on ciabatta bread and the other was to come on focaccia - both sandwiches were delivered on torpedo rolls! There was also an order of tomato basil of soup, which looked like it had been kept in a crock pot and cooked for ever. Do not waste your time...lots of time. We went in and it was busy so we sat at the bar, waited 7 minutes until they cleaned up the mess from the people before us. Waiter came over and said they were sorry cleaned up and took our order and we actually has to ask for a fork and knife. We moved down so there were 2 seats together just in case someone needed a seat and waited and waited for our food. This family comes in and takes up the 2 seats beside us and becomes loud because no one took their order yet for the kids sitting there...order in and food served to the loud mouth family at the same time. My eggs were cold, they gave me a bagel with no cream cheese and the French toast had no butter....we asked 3 times and waited another 10 minutes before we finally got butter and cream cheese, by then the bagel was cold, eggs even colder and butter never melted on the French toast....never an apology for the service or the wait time...1 hour we will never get back again.
