What an amazing find! Tasty pizza, by the slice, in Davis! For a reasonable price!! Plus, other baked goods and desserts! It all spells WINNER! The space is tiny and quaint, with just enough seating inside for 2 at a small round table in the corner. The kind where you and your date can sit, over piping hot slices, with your knees touching, staring into each other's eyes while the music plays...um...yeah, you get the picture. I didn't get the name of our server but she had a great attitude and was very helpful, answering questions about the business and the menu items. We ordered 2 slices of veggie and a cheese slice. The pizza crust is a little thicker than I was expecting, more like a focaccia than traditional pizza dough but it was really good! Especially, if you get a bit of extra sauce for dipping! The crust even held up well to being folded, the proper way to eat a slice, without flopping and dropping the toppings. The sauce is well balanced and the toppings are fresh. The peppers and veggies still had a bit of crunch to them after baking. Bonus points! Well done! Needless to say, I will definitely be visiting this place again!

I am almost positive that I had a dream about a perfect pizza place like the Village Bakery. I was small enough to feel cozy, warm and welcoming, but it was in the middle of Davis nightlife. There was a variety of slices warming under an orange light. The minute we paid for our pizza, it was hot, ready and seconds away from being devoured. The pizza itself was wonderful. I had a host of fresh veggies and a lightly flavored sauce that didn't overpower the vegetables. The crust was sturdy enough to hold the cheese and fixings but chewy enough to pinch and pull and dip in the sauce. I regard an evening in Davis differently after enjoying pizza at this cute spot.

Order here a lot. One of my top favorite pizza places in Davis. - cheese pizza - veggie pizza Usually ready within 15 to 20 minutes. Slices are already ready to go. The crust is wonderful :)

Loved the convenient location across from the Amtrak station for Davis! Fabulous food at reasonable prices beautifully displayed for "quick" selection if you already know what you want to order. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza, Parmesan garlic bread and whole wheat bread. I was able to get the loaves sliced before I left. Parmesan garlic bread is simply amazing!!! Can't wait to return and try more items. Lovely shop and highly recommend!

This sweet little Davis bakery has been around for 25 years located on the corner right across from the Amtrak station.Excellent selection of pastries and fresh breads. Also, known for their pizza slices "to go". I always grab a loaf of bread & cookies along with the pizza. A few outside tables for dining. Prices are reasonable. Can be a line for pizza during lunch hour so come early!

Get that chocolate eclair in my belly! (Bottom right)

*** Vegetarian Review *** Village Bakery is a true mainstay in Davis, California, and it's no wonder why. This old school establishment has been serving the community for over 25 years, making it a cherished local gem. Whether you're craving a delicious slice of pizza or seeking the perfect artisan bread to start your day, Village Bakery has got you covered. Their freshly baked breads are a treat for early risers and a testament to their commitment to quality. Would I Come Back? Heck yeah. This is one of places I bring visitors to for a slice of Davis. Plenty of vegetarian options. Comparisons: Their pizzas are cooked in a brick oven so if you're a fan of Upper Crust Bakery on their Wednesday pizza nights, you'll really enjoy Village. Both are bakeries first so their pizza crusts are next level. For a more National comparison, Blaze pizza is close, but again, it's the crust. Tips for First Timers: 1. Free street parking 2. Call in advance or use the App. They can get busy so use your time wisely. 3. Whole pizzas and slices are available after 11am. 4. Daily meal deal ... 1 slice, 1 salad, and 1 soda. 5. Scone of the day. See my photos for the menu. 6. 4 inside chairs. 2 outside tables. And if you happen to be in the mood for something sweet instead, Village Bakery has got you covered there too. Their menu boasts a big selection of housemade desserts that will satisfy any sweet tooth. Indulge in their Napoleons, fluffy cream puffs, decadent eclairs, delectable fruit tarts, or the classic Italian favorite, tiramisu. With such a variety of mouthwatering treats, you'll surely find the perfect ending to your meal. With all the tempting choices available, it's the pizzas at Village Bakery that truly steal the show and make it a must-visit spot. Their diverse menu caters to all palates, including a fantastic range of vegetarian options like the delightful Roasted Bell Pepper, Eggplant, Greek, Artichoke, and Spinach pizzas. And for the meat lovers in your life, they make it easy ... just order the Meat Lovers pizza. Custom Vegetarian Pizza ($27.50, Grade A) - It all starts with their generous 16" cheese pizza, which is already a satisfying choice at $23. But the customization options take it to the next level. For just an additional $1 each, you can enhance your pizza with toppings like mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach. And if you're feeling adventurous, I highly recommend adding the roasted onions for an extra $1.50. The portion is large enough for three or two particularly hungry individuals. The perfectly melted cheese and melt-in-your-mouth crust make every bite a treat. I personally love enjoying the crusts with pads of butter. Village Bakery strikes a fantastic balance with their toppings, never overloaded or under-loaded, which ensures even cooking and a harmonious bite every time. Desserts: Don't forget to treat yourself to one of Village Bakery's tempting dessert options before leaving. My personal favorite is the indulgent chocolate eclair -- it doesn't leave that film in your mouth after you eat it. And their sticky bun is also a must. Everything is all made in-house and for those that don't like overly sweet desserts, this is your spot. For comparison, California State Fair goers are aware of the famous cinnamon roll (aka sticky bun) in the exhibit hall. I look forward to that particular fair food every year. Eating this sticky bun more than satisfies that yearly craving. Bottom Line: Village Bakery in Davis, California, is a cherished mainstay that has been serving the community for over 25 years. Their friendly service, always hot pizzas, and delicious housemade desserts make it a must-visit spot. Whether you're craving a slice or a whole pie, Village Bakery has earned its enduring reputation for good reason.

garlic parmesan cheese bread
Sam L.

this is garlic parmesan cheese bread (purchased at taylor's in sacramento this morning). eek. inclusions totally unmixed, so theres just a horrible paste of uncooked garlic and unmelted cheese in it. :(

Tiramisu

Got a slice of pepperoni pizza and some tiramisu. The pizza was really good, however the tiramisu was frozen in the middle making it have a crunchy texture. While the flavor was good, the crunchiness put me off.

I'm glad I did because everything was delicious. I ordered the pork belly banh mi and a cup of the Greek lemon chicken and farro soup. The banh mi was definitely the highlight. The pork belly was moist, tender, chewy, and really flavorful, and the crunchy vegetables added a great contrast. The ciabatta was perfectly soft with just a little bit of grilling and worked really well with everything in the sandwich. It was also a pretty substantial portion. I could only finish half and took the other half home for my son to try. The Greek lemon chicken and farro soup was also really good. I would have loved a little more lemon zing to it, but that's really my only critique of the food. Tenisha helped me during my visit and was super friendly and welcoming, which made a great first impression for a new location. My lunch came in just under $30, so it's definitely on the pricier side for a sandwich-and-soup lunch. That said, everything tasted fresh and high quality, with plenty of protein and vegetables, and the pricing seems pretty comparable to the other options in this newly updated shopping area. Overall, this was a great first visit. The food was fresh, delicious, and felt like a healthier lunch option without sacrificing flavor. I've been waiting for Mendocino Farms to open and went a little out of my way to finally try it, and it was absolutely worth the trip. I'll definitely be back.

My Burma downtown is doing the most in the best way--great location, solid vibes, and service that actually feels like they want you there (rare, honestly). Fun fact: Burmese cuisine is one of the only Southeast Asian cuisines where fermented tea leaves (yes, edible tea salad energy) are a legit staple. Let's start with the good: the cashier was friendly, the patio seating was lovely, and the fact that they're dog-friendly is a major win. Sometimes, ambiance really does a lot of the heavy lifting, and this place has that going for it. As for the food? Decent, but not particularly memorable. I ordered the chorizo and eggs with potatoes, and everything was good (albeit salty), nothing that quite had me plotting my return visit. The carne asada burrito looked a little lonely on the plate, but I'll let my dining companion break down the details in his own review. The value was another sticking point. Prices felt a little steep for what we got, and the service had a hiccup or two. My mimosa was handed to me right after I ordered, but my homie had quite a wait for his Irish coffee. Nothing kills the brunch vibe quite like one person having their drink and then we're all sorta feeling the time pass. I felt like they forgot about us. Overall, the patio, the atmosphere, and the dog-friendly setup were definite positives. The food and value? A little underwhelming. The best thing about Cafe Bernardo that day? The company I kept. Those two get a dozen stars each!

Whoever worked today they were on their best game, multitasking the samples for us while creating a bowl for someone else. All friendly smiles and warm personalities, which is always great to see and definitely the aloha spirit!! Now on to the important stuff: The poke. I gotta say it was probably one of the best ones in California and I've tried quite a bit. Pretty darn close to the authentic stuff in Hawaii but still delicious! Everything was flavorful, bold, and a great blend of flavors. I had the Furikake bomb Ahi and Spicy Ahi Tropical Style and it definitely hit the spot. Now the base of a bowl is $14.25 with just poke and rice, so if you want all the fixings it's an additional charge. Going for the Tropical style added $4.50 bringing it to $18.75 before tax. A tad pricey but if you can afford it, definitely would recommend for the explosion of flavor. But if you want to eat it the good Ole fashion Hawaiian way, just poke and rice would be cherry, garunz barbarunz!! This spot is located on G street and parking for this business is street parking only. So walking into this busy restaurant, it has a lot of youthful energy, which makes sense since it's a college town. The workers are super friendly and I was definitely greeted with friendly faces. I mentioned to the worker how this was my first visit here and they explained the menu to me a bit. They had so many poke choices-I was in poke heaven. Some of the interesting flavors include Habanero Ahi, Spicy Salmon, Spicy Ahi, Spicy Oyster Ahi, Sweet Chili Salmon & Garlic Spicy Shrimp and many others. I'm not 100% if those can just be chosen at random for the poke bowls or if those flavors are available just by the pound. For my visit, I had my eyes on one item and one item only and when I ordered it, they didn't ask me which variety I wanted, so I assume I just got traditional flavoring. I got the Triple Sashimi Wrap ($16.95), which features Tuna, Salmon, and Albacore Sashimi along with avocado, masago, spring mix, cucumber, seaweed salad, wonton strips and spicy mayo all in a seaweed wrap. After a short wait at my table, they called my number and I went up to the counter to get my food. It was beautiful. True piece of art, it was so pretty that I almost didn't want to bite into it......ALMOST. Once I did, it was everything I'd hoped it would be, sashimi was so fresh and tasty, rice was perfectly textured and seasoned, perfect amount of spicy mayo and those wonton strips gave a solid crunch. Yep this was a really solid dish. It's funny, as I was walking out of the restaurant, I called my wife and was like "Next time we are in Davis, I'm bringing you here to try this Triple Sashimi Wrap. It's legit!!" If it wasn't obvious, I really enjoyed my dish, and really enjoyed my visit to Good Friends Hawaiian Poke and really can't wait to come back and try some of the other things on this menu.....Habanero Ahi anyone?
