This restaurant was on my list of places to try for a while. I really wanted to love it, but the food was just average. Everything we ordered was good and fresh, but nothing to brag about. The food was fairly bland and lacked a 'wow factor' that would make me crave another meal. The ambiance was nice and the service was good. They really do need more English-speaking servers Spanish English is very important when you go out to dinner in a Spanish restaurant they share a lot of restaurants in Hackensack with other Colombian restaurants and they do have their waiters and waitresses trained English in Spanish, which is nice read more

The food is good and the portions are very fair for the price. Really can't go wrong with this restaurant as they only serve the most popular Columbian dishes so there's nothing to be afraid. If you're not a fan of veggies then you're going to love this place! Parking can be a challenge as their lot is on the smaller side and street marking is either on Main or State Street. Lots of room in the restaurant for large groups. So why only 3 stars? Because they put automatic gratuity on the check. Whether you're coming in alone or with a group of 20 you're going to get it slapped on there. And it doesn't matter if you cross it out and write a new total. They will close it out to the total with the added gratuity. And don't bother calling to get it rectified either. Their Ceviche Mixtos is so delicious!!! Love love love I highly recommend. The Ceviche Mixto is very citrusy with a nice touch of cilantro and red onions to add flavor and slightly creamy. Their Traditional Paisa plate come with; chicharron (fried pork belly) it was perfectly fried, the right amount of crispy and a very generous size of pork belly. I am not sure how this place is 4 stars . I went on a Saturday night around 8:00 pm with my husband and mom and there was no wait . Surprisingly the restaurant was fairly empty. My mom and I ordered the Bandeja Paisa and the beans and rice did not taste fresh . My mom is Colombian and her beans have more flavor than this place . My wife and I have found our favorite Colombian restaurant and it's Villa de Colombia located at 12 Mercer st Hackensack. The food is delicious, the portions are huge, prices are reasonable and the customer service is excellent. Our waitress was Julie, she was gracious and courteous. We had Ceviche Mixto for appetizers..the Seafood was fresh and tasty. For entree my wife got Chuletas Caleña, it reminded me of the Japanese Katsu-don but more flavorful, I got the Paisa Churrasco...the steak was divine and the pork crackling was fried to perfection. AMAZING!!! This was my first time coming here and honestly I can't wait to go back! This place is a million times better than Noches de Colombia. You can tell the difference as it tastes so much more fresh. Started off with empanadas and ceviche. While the empanadas i must say lacked just the tiniest bit of flavor they were still a hit. They weren't greasy and i loved that! the ceviche was perfect. The calamari fish and shrimp weren't chewy they were perfectly tender. And the lemon wasn't overpowering. Now onto the entrees *TRES MOSQUETEROS and bandeja paisa is what me and my partner ordered. 1. THEIR CHURRASCO IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST IVE HAD IN A WHILE. So flavorful so tender. Their mashed potatoes weren't great though but everything else was amazing. I cant say enough about that churrasco and the chimichurri sauce!! now the bandeja paisa the meat honestly had great flavor!!!! I absolutely loved it and the beans and chorizo were delicious. The plaintains were also perfectly cooked. For desert we had flan and it was good. It was a bit too custardy but nonetheless delicious! 10/10 recommend this restaurant :) read more

I write a lot of reviews on Yelp and almost ashamed I never tooted my horn about Villa De Colombia. Been a fan from their opening many years ago, went through their remodel and restaffing but the quality of their food has never changed. If you are a carnivore, this is the place for you. All beef, pork and chicken dishes are great. Although I must say the Paella should not be ignored. My favorite dish overall is the paisa churrasco. Trust me.. I could go on, but give this restaurant a try. No need for appy's, BYOB and all u need for dessert is a cappuccino. read more

If you're looking for authentic Colombian food, Villa de Colombia is the spot. It's tucked away in a quiet street off of Main street. The service is on point and let's not mention the food. The service was fast, the food delicious and did I mention they also have parking for your vehicle in the back of the location. My experience at this restaurant was a 5 plus. Would never compare to Noches. Noches is very noisy with music, making the customers talk even loader & the service is horrible. Coming to this location you feel calm, it's not noisy. There is just so much "graceful mojo" at this family favorite that I'm wondering how it isn't over-run by desperados like me. Folks who are just begging for something honest, well run and affordable. The meats and Latin favorites are always on point but this last visit was all about the sauces. I saved my perfectly plump skirt steak for the doggie bag because I couldn't stop the repetitive rewards of dropping a forkful of rice into well balanced creations; one from bacon wrapped shrimp and one from a pork chop dish. The BYOB allows you to plan ahead and bring your favorite wine/beer. If I still lived in the area, I would dedicate 2019 to experiencing everything they offer, one Friday night at a time. read more

Hidden Gem! I don't know where to begin! Located in the 'downtown' area of Hackensack, this place is one of the few remaining restaurants in town that makes your feel at home all while enjoying a nice meal. We stopped in with another couple, were greeted right away by the hostess, and we sat within seconds. For a Wednesday night, the place was packed! We ordered a couple of apps to split, including the empanadas, papas rellena, bunelo and the chicharron. All were delicious, the empanada, heavenly!! Its a must try!!! For dinner, we ordered the Red Snapper Whole Fried Fish, actually two of them! If you like fish, you must try it. Its a whole fish, deep fried, I mean, come on!!! We also got the Bandeja Paisa. The steak was well seasoned, and cooked absolutely perfect, medium rare! Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert, but, next time!! If you are in the area, I would most certainly stop by! This place has the BEST empanadas by far! Love stopping by just to buy empanadas to eat :) They have great dinner food as well as lunch specials that come with soup. Very filling and good portions. Massive portions for a fair price. We got the ceviche and empanadas and they were probably my favorite part of my meal. The fish and squid and shrimp in the ceviche was fresh. After the appetizers I was pumped to have my main entree but it actually disappointed me. The Bandeja Paisa was just decent. It really lacked flavor and it was just a forgetful dish. I am only giving it 4/5 stars because I only picked up soup from this restaurant. Well I should say my fiance went and picked it up for me because I am currently feeling under the weather. I decided on this place based on the Yelp reviewers and I must say I am sold. Colombian Chicken Soup (Large), I have to say was DELICIOUS! All the spices put into the soup makes it so flavorful and I can't stop eating it. Very good portion too. I will definitely make a date night here for the appetizers, entree and desserts. I look forward to it. On another note, I have to admit the spices used at this restaurant just might be the spices I am looking for in Colombian food. I just want to start off by saying this was top 5 worst service ever. I ordered chicken nuggets with fries for my son. He ate it and watched an episode of PJ Mask and I still didn't get my food. We were a party of 4 and they must've had one cook that day (Sunday) for the whole restaurant. Food was good, I won't lie about that. I had the chicken with mushroom sauce that was lightly fried and came with a side of white rice and yucca fries. I order two pitchers of sangria ($33 each) was pretty pricey but strong. We were a party of 4 and a half and tip was included for who knows why. I would never come here again to dine in. Take out I would try because the food was actually good. But the service was so bad and took so long, I was a minute away from flipping a table and throwing a chair out the window before walking out. It took over 50 minutes for our food to come out. Their website is a bit misleading as their lunch specials consist of two choices of entree and two choices of soup; the website implied to me that all choices were offered. The Sopa de Albondigas had a good broth full of aromatics and the meatball was tasty. The Pechuga en Salsa de Champiñones however was pretty average. Individually the items taste pretty good but all three items have heavy flavors and your tongue will get tired from all the fat. The color is also unappealing with everything being white on a white plate with only two fried plantains to give a different color. Service - 2/5. I'm not too picky about service especially at the price range I'm paying but giving me the entree while I'm only midway through my soup is very rude. This along with the very snippy service by the waitress made me feel unwelcome. Value - 4/5. The lunch specials are only $8.25 and gives a sizable amount of food. Our first time here (Friday night): The place was surprisingly pretty big. They have a good menu with many authentic Colombian dishes. I ordered Bandeja Paisa and my wife ordered the Chicken/Pork Pasteles. We both loved our orders! Both dishes were fresh and very flavorful. We knew we would be back! Our second time here (Monday night): What a different story. Our waiter was not very attentive as we were constantly on the look out for him (the place was not busy at all). We also made the mistake of ordering the special that evening, which was rib eye steak, baked potato, asparagus and tostones. I added a salad with avocado on the side too. I was disappointed. My steak had too much fat and was cooked a bit rare than medium like I asked. Everything else was good. If the waiter would have been available, I would've told them to cook the steak a little more. My wife had the breaded shrimp, white rice and tostones. She was satisfied with her meal. Happy Ending! I was a bit disappointed since our first visit was a great experience. When we asked for our bill. The owner (Trujillo) came by and personally handed it to me. He noticed I didn't finish my meal and asked what went wrong. I told him the reasons I stated above. He was very gracious, apologized and said they will definitely do better. For my dissatisfaction he only charged me $5 for the Rib Eye! He also offered us a complimentary dessert as well (we got the flan). I appreciated his generosity because he wanted us to leave happy. And we did. The man knows how to handle business... Sometimes it's those little things that go a long way and I felt they made up for it just for acknowledging the problem. Note: for a big place their parking lot is tight and pretty limited.
