Sandwiches had fresh, crispy bread that wasnt dry and had texture. The meat to vegetable portion was decent. The avocado was ripe and fresh. The pizza was mediocre and forgettable. While the bread was somewhat soft, it didn't have much flavor. If theres anything you take from this review, its dont order a pizza here. The cookie looked good, but it was a little dry like it was either days old or over stirred. Had an decent chocolate and toasted butter flavor but texture wasnt great. read more

We visited the restaurant back in Nov '15 The place was pretty laid back. a lot of native people were having food at the restaurant, which to me seems like the place is close to authentic. The staff was friendly and laid back, do come with patience. This place may not be as fun for those who are really fast paced and on the run constantly. Good place to sit and talk over a meal on a weekend. The fish was spectacular. the tomato salad and salsa was divine and brought the entire dish together. My hubby got steak and eggs. My go to place for "bolones" is definitely this spot right here. They make them differently (deep fried) which I love. Super fattening but it's worth the weight gain Took off a star because I've tried other food here and it was not to my liking. So I stick to the bolon and the bolon only. read more

This Ecuadorian deli serves cheap and delicious authentic typical Ecuadorian food ranging from seco de gallina (chivo and carne are also available), ceviches, humitas, llapingachos, churrascos,etc. I recommend $10 sopa de marisco (seafood soup), it's like an Ecuadorian version of bouillabaisse with lots of seafood including clams, shrimps, squids, crab meat, and white fish meat. It tastes better when you add lime juice, trust me! The sopa de marisco comes with a side dish option of either rice, salad, or tostones (fried plantain). If you aren't hispanic, you probably are going to be the only non-hispanic person in the restaurant. read more

I am Ecuadorian and I like my Ecuadorian food every now and then. Now that I work in Hackensack, I visit Galapagos restaurant frequently. I have taken some of my co-workers and they love the place! They love it so much that today, I had to order for 9 people: grilled chicken breast, beans, rice, maduros, tostones with queso fresco, and salad. First and last time I come here. Order 2 bolones mixtos for pick up. Stopped by and was curious about the menu. Right on there they have posted, "bolones de queso mixto o chicharrón." $4.00. When I was charged, the girl said $11. I asked the lady that was cooking why $11 if it said $4 each for the mixto ones. She said, no. I showed her the menu and the guy behind the counter said that's a mistake. If your menu is outdated, then fix it. That's not my problem if its a mistake. I continue to say, that this is the first and last time I come here. He says, its tour money, if you don't want to come, then don't come. (I just changed my review from 2 stars to 1) I AM Ecuadorian and that might work in Ecuador but here in the US it's a different story my friend. That is false advertising. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I rushed my way to a Yelp Event at the Artistic Giraffe for wine glass painting and didn't have time for food. My dad was meeting me so I literally ran here to grab something. They made my dinner so fast, they knew I was rushing. Thank you!! I had grilled shrimp that was excellent. It came with salad and beans, white rice and plantains. I thought the plantains were a little dry and bland, but I loved my shrimp and rice so much. Salad was good. My dad did not share the beans :( haha I literally blinked and they were gone. I got my dad steak with egg on top. Everything has egg pretty much. He poured the sauce on it and went to town. My dad is a garbage disposal, but he actually looked like he was enjoying it and not sucking it down. Win. Other yelpers were jealous I had food. It smelled so good. I felt a little bad, but it was so worth it with the BYOB wine I took to the event. Dinner from Galapagos really added to a great experience with my dad. read more

Excellent food! Great service. The place was easy to locate. I was immediately greeted by a smiling waitress, even though I knew I was taking out haha. The cook spoke English so it was easy to order. I had the Hornado con ensalada, papa, arroz y plátano maduro and it was great! The hornado was a little salty but bearable. I definitely recommend! read more

I have only been to this place once. It was almost lunchtime but my husband and I had not had breakfast yet. We went in and ordered off of the breakfast section and there werent even any raised eyebrows just a smile and nod from the waitress. I had the tripe and beans with rice and avocado salad. He had the vegetable omelet. The portions are HUGE! We had enough to take home for dinner. I am not Hispanic but you certainly dont have to be to enjoy this food! read more

The food is not necessarily bad, but not impressive either... The latest I had a ceviche which tasted like they used bottled lime concentrate, as well as a bit bitter... I've tried a few other things, but the only thing that has been pretty good are the "Bolones", perhaps they should stick to fried food... everything else requires a good cooking hand, fresh produce and a good taste for food... forget the service... good atmosphere requires a good smile, just for starters!!! Food here is extremely bland. My wife and I both had the carne guisada with rice and beans. The carne guisada had no taste at all and the beans tasted burnt. I also had the ceviche which was gross. It tastes like they used the lemon concentrate instead of actual limes and lemons. In my opinion one of the worst ceviches I'd ever had. read more

I went out on a stroll and stopped by the restaurant expecting a nice ethnic bite, and that's exactly what I got. The place has a nice aesthetic with props from several Spanish countries that provide interesting eye candy when waiting for food. The staff was mainly Hispanic and didn't speak English fluently, but they still managed to cook up a decently priced platter that left me filled. I've come a couple of times to this restaurant always hoping that this time would be better that the last. Food remains okay at best, but service continues to decline. Waitress never smiles and is very dry (not the first time). Today was the worst when the owner himself was unable to deal with a situation in a courteous and professional manner. Maybe is the lack of finesse and their poor customer service that prevents them from being a better restaurant. Its not always about the food only...
