The service is always great, food is always hot, and the kitchen/restaurant is always clean. The dishes are made differently from other restaurants with an influence from southern Italy where the owners Grandmother was from. The baked pasta is a mix of savory, well seasoned, and yummy pasta and a hot dish. Perfect for after a ski trip or rainy day. I am also a fan of the antipasto salad. It has a great crunch, tastes fresh, and is cold (feeling like they prepare it and bring it out right away). Honestly, I ate too much because it was so good . This last trip, Heaven, was our waitress. She was friendly, personable, and had an excellent memory for our experience. All of our food came out hot and together. The restaurant was packed full of people. Highly recommend for anyone staying, stopping, or existing in town.

I'm told that the best Thank You notes are not written the next day. That's what this feels like,…read morefor we had an amazing experience for our 29th (!!) wedding anniversary. We knew a bit about the restaurant beforehand (I stopped in over the summer to buy a gift certificate), but this was our first time dining. We've had family style dinner before and, honestly, we're very open-minded eaters. We didn't even read a menu and let the staff take care of us. It turns out that we were in very good hands. The service is very attentive and friendly. We joked with our server as we learned about the menu and asked questions. It was a perfect mix of information and 'let us show you more.' The restaurant itself is sizeable with a few areas perfect for larger groups. We were seated at a high top, which felt a bit like the cat-bird seat. We were able to see everything and people watch without being rude or obtrusive. Seeing how others reacted to the food - and getting a preview before ours arrived - was fun and informative at the same time. The tricky part of this recap is the fact that the menu is very fluid. I can tell you how amazing the antipasto was - the memory of the caper berries still makes my mouth water - but your plate may arrive with completely different items. The adventure is trying things that either you've never had before or not in this preparation. Simply put, I recommend the prix fixe family dinner. Let yourself be guided by the food and try everything in front of you. That said, we learned that the kitchen makes their favorites on Saturday nights, so you might have a chance to enjoy the silky gnocchi or the sublime orecchiette. Since Strega Nonna offers kitchen courses, I am keeping an eye on the schedule in hopes of recreating something that we enjoyed or learning something completely new to me. The music was very enjoyable and did not impede conversation. It was the perfect backdrop for our food adventure, allowing us to chat about the restaurant and food or simply enjoy the tastes while listening. Thank you to everyone at Strega Nonna that made our anniversary so special. We're thrilled to have you in Negaunee and look forward to taking more 'tours' with your food and fun!

I took my friend here, and she is NOT a foodie like me. She eats cold pasta . But that's ok, it's what she likes I guess. Anyways, I took her here after a long day. She had it rough. I briefly ran down the whole wet dry dipped thing with her and the man the myth the legend took her order. Asked her about the name spelling which she did appreciate. We play mini pool and boom, the behemoth arrives and she swiftly takes a bite. This girl dang Scooby-Doo styled her way into that sandwich and I was ecstatic. This sandwich has rich moist classic Italian sandwich texture , unmatched from any other sandwich place here. The broth was rich as she slathered that on this beautiful cheesy goodness. The mixed veggies were perfectly spiced to her liking and this is a highly intellectual independent woman yet this beautiful concoction had made her say the words "bussin'". Now, if you're unaware this universal term is a youthful slang to indicate that the food is GOOOOOD. My eyes lit up. And then the man behind the genius had mentioned he had not made her sandwich dry, and offered her a new one, which she politely declined , as she had devoured 1/2 the sandwich already, and he, without hesitation had offered her a free pop. This man has a heart of gold. My friend never looked more alive and it was exactly what she needed that day. She swore, SWORE she would come back here and thanked me for introducing her to this place, but really I should be thanking the man who runs this place for making my and my friends night. Thank you, Chicago beefs.

Mama Mia's Italian Restaurant is one of the few long-running restaurants in Ishpeming that…read moregenuinely feels tied to the town rather than just located in it. The place has been around for decades, and the experience reflects that kind of stability and familiarity. On the food side, I ordered the Lasagne Dinner, which is a verified menu item, along with garlic bread. The lasagne is exactly the kind of old-school Italian-American comfort food that works best in a place like this. The layers hold together properly instead of collapsing into sauce, the cheese has a rich baked texture without becoming oily, and the meat sauce has a slow-cooked flavor that feels consistent rather than rushed. The garlic bread also deserves mention because it comes out with a crisp edge and soft center that actually complements the heavier pasta dishes instead of just sitting on the side untouched. Service is one of the restaurant's strongest qualities. The pacing feels experienced rather than scripted. Staff know how to handle regulars, larger dinner rushes, and slower tables without making the room feel chaotic. Refills, check-ins, and food timing all happen naturally, which gives the place a much more relaxed rhythm than newer restaurants trying too hard to feel upscale. The ambiance is a huge part of why the restaurant works. The interior has that older Italian restaurant warmth with dimmer lighting, darker furnishings, and a dining room that feels lived-in rather than renovated for trends. It is comfortable in a way that makes people stay longer than they planned to. The atmosphere feels personal and local instead of corporate or interchangeable. Overall, this is one of the more complete dining experiences in the area. The food is deeply consistent, the service feels experienced and natural, and the atmosphere has enough character that the restaurant stays memorable long after the meal is over.
