Some of the issues with my meal at Villa Capri are on me. The restaurant is doing their best during Covid to protect their customers, which I appreciate. As part of their Covid protection they have placed the menu's under plastic on the tables. (So one one touches them). I guess this is a great idea except it's pretty dark in the place and I couldn't read it very well! (Didn't have my readers!). I should have asked more questions, but it was later in the evening, so I ordered right way. Turns out that was a mistake. I ordered the chicken tetrazzini and decided to try it over "pillows" (which mean over meat ravioli instead of spaghetti). Here is where I had a problem... I have had tetrazzini at many other places and never had it served with red sauce. The menu just said something like served in a savory mushroom sauce. I'm not Italian, so maybe red sauce is common with tetrazzini? But here was my issue... it also contained tons of green pepper. Unfortunately green peppers make me sick, so I was in trouble! I guess I am to blame...I should have asked! Just never expected "savory mushroom sauce" meant red sauce loaded with green pepper! I ate what I could, and I went directly to a gas station for some antacid. Thank god for the garlic bread, that was quite good and filling. I also got a side salad which was pretty small for the $5 up charge. (Didn't see that on the menu either... lol). Review: I recently had the misfortune of dining at this restroom and I must say it was a truly disappointing experience. I had heard some mixed reviews, but nothing could have prepared me for the sheer awfulness of the food I encountered there. Let's start with the food itself--it was nothing short of terrible. The dishes I ordered were tasteless, and gives you the gas. Each bite was an underwhelming experience. I would rather eat Burger King. Moreover, the poor quality of the food was evident from the first glance. The ingredients were frozen and poorly sourced. It was clear that the restaurant didn't prioritize using fresh and high-quality ingredients, which is crucial for any decent dining establishment. On the suggestion from a local, we tried Villa Capri late Friday night. Menu is weak and lacks variety. $18 for 7 plain shrimp. $1.75 to add what was probably less than 1 diced mushroom. Red wine comes cold...which ended up being fine, but caught me off guard at first. My fiancé is running the 50 miler in town tomorrow and told our server up front that he was trying to hydrate, yet she never came and filled our waters. The cheese sauce was yummy, but a bit too much after awhile. The tomato sauce was watery and flavorless. I would recommend the option to mix the 2, as we ended up combining our 2 entrees to even them out. Side salad is tiny and our server brought us oil for it, after we asked for Italian and ranch. Our server never checked on us or cleared any of our dishes, so we got to eat our whole meal next to dirty plates. Then she disappeared with my credit card for over 10 minutes at the end of the meal when all we asked for was our check and a box. We planned to check out the Boat Bar at the end of our meal, but were so annoyed by the time we finally got out of there (over 20 min after finishing eating) that we decided against it. read more

This was our second time eating from the villa but our first time dining in the restaurant. We were hoping for the boat bar experience, but unfortunately the boat bar has been closed for a while now. The decor is very red and a bit distracting. It definitely gives you something to look at and talk about while eating. I got the ravioli and my girlfriend got the stuffed shells. Both were pretty good, but didn't blow our socks off. One odd part of dinner was the table busser/hostess was just standing against the wall right next to the table within feet of where we were seated. Seemed a little odd to us while trying to have a conversation in an already fairly quiet spot. Will probably be back, but will need to be in the mood for some weird. read more

This is your typical family Italian restaurant: old-school decor, great service, huge portions, and garlic bread beyond compare. The only thing missing is chianti bottles with candle wax congealed on the sides. This is the real deal. My wife says the garlic bread is better than hers (and mine). I've been eating at the Villa Capri for my entire life and for me, it never gets old. The decor is a little old fashioned. Think old-school Italian restaurant with the classic red & white checkered tablecloths. They've updated a few things but all in all it's been the exactly same forever. I like that a lot. I appreciate the fact that the owner, either Mike or his mom, are waiting at the front door to greet and seat everyone that comes in. They always know our exactly where we like to sit. It's like going to your Italian family's house for dinner. How's the food? Awesome! I get the same thing almost every time. 8oz sizzler steak with side salad (house dressing), two meatballs in sauce and garlic bread. There are occasions when the house Italian salad dressing is far too oily with not enough vinegar or salt but when that happens I know it's a newbie making them. The dressing isn't bottled or canned. It's mixed at the time you order it and if you don't taste it each time it won't come out right. Pasta sauce is house made and a little peppery. I love that. Gotta love that garlic bread. It's so fricken good that when I make dinners at home for our entire family I order a ton of raw breads to oven toast and butter at home. Always a hit. Every so often the person working the ovens neglects to stir the garlic butter before brushing it onto the bread and it's bland, but Patty or any of the other waitstaff will quickly get you another if you mention it. Finally, Villa pizza is by far the best in Marquette. If you don't like a thin, cracker crust, you might be disappointed but that style is my favorite. I've never had a bad pizza from the Villa and I've probably eaten about 5000 of them. Gotta have pepperoni and sausage. It's off the hook good. The best part is that the meals are very affordable. Never again. It was a special occasion and my wife took me out for a nice dinner. We were greeted as we walked in and told to go sit in the corner booth by the manager/owner who couldn't be bothered to seat us. Irritating but not a deal breaker. I ordered the large sizzler medium. The steak showed up as 2 separate steaks. I cut into the one and it was cooked properly. I ate this steak as it was very good. I took a bite of the second steak and it tasted sour. I cut a piece from the other side and it was worse. I couldn't swallow it. It was a bad piece of meat. It happens. I told the waitress and she said she'd talk to the kitchen. She came out of the kitchen to get the manager/owner and together they went into the kitchen. After about 5 minutes she came back and said she tried to take money off of our bill due to the bad steak but the manager/owner said no. She apologized and was very nice about it. I realize it wasn't her fault and the service was very good. What isn't acceptable is the manager/owner didn't acknowledge the bad steak or even come and ask about it. I wasn't looking for a freebie, I've worked as a restaurant manager in the past and understand things happen. But as a manager I'd want to know when something didn't meet a customer's expectation and want to correct it before someone else had a similar bad experience. As we left we walked right by the manager/owner and he didn't even look up from his phone to say thank you or come again. The atmosphere of the place was very lovely and felt like a true Italian restaurant. The place is a bit old so it does have some character to it. The waiters and staff were extremely nice however it did feel a bit slow in terms of service. My family and I ordered the Chicken Tetrazzini, Chicken Cacciatori, and the spaghetti with meatballs. The Chicken Tetrazzini was honestly decent just was a bit watered down. Same thing with the Chicken Cacciatori, it was watery and bland and somewhat cold when it got to the table (ordered food and it took about 15-20 mins for the food so maybe something was waiting while the other meals were being cooked). The Spaghetti with meatballs was very good and came out hot (I don't even know how you would mess this up). Overall the meals were lack luster but the atmosphere was very nice. read more

We had dinner here on our vacation to Marquette. We just saw it driving by so we stopped. The decor is old and reminded my husband and I of the restaurants we went to as kids so that was nostalgic for us. The food was very good. My husband and son shared a pizza and I had stuffed shells. This review is actually for The Boat Bar, the darker bar area at the back of the Villa. I enjoy coming here, especially for happy hours since there is always an empty table and good for big groups. I saw a sign at the bar that said $1.50 then listed PBR, Oberon, and probably 3-4 other beers on tap - I ended up ordering 2 beers. My tab also included a kiddie cocktail, a large 2 topping pizza and a small dinner salad. When the check came it was over $36 dollars. I asked how much the pizza was and was told "well, the pizza and salad was $26... not sure exactly how much for just the pizza." I then said, ok, then how much was the kiddie cocktail since my 2 beers should've been $3. The server said "oh, the $1.50 is just for the PBR, not for all the beers on the sign..." I said.. "well, then you need to change your sign since there's an arrow from the $1.50 pointing to the Oberon... I thought it was for all the beers on the board..." The reply was "oh, yah, maybe I should change the sign..." So... lesson is I guess it's up to me to clarify the signs on prices, be expected to pay what I assume was about $20-22 for 2 topping thin crust pizza, and not expect an apology for the misleading sign. I probably would've stayed longer, as part of the crew I was with was staying to play pool, but this left a bad taste in my mouth and I didn't feel like staying and giving them more money tonight. Will I go back? Probably at some point, but I can get a just as good pizza and pick up a 6 pack of good MI craft beer for less than $36. read more

TLDR: horrible service, horrible food at the Villa Capri, and horrible excuses and behavior from them. full story below... Just had the worst dining experience in my entire life at the Villa Capri. First of all, we called before we got there, to check how busy they were (4th of july weekend), and were told they were not that busy and had many tables open. In actuality they were packed when arrived, and ended up getting told it was a 20 minute wait. After about 30 minutes, we finally got seated. Excited and hungry, we ordered our food right away. We got started with some garlic bread, but oddly no silverware at our table. We were served our salads... and some time later, the waitress brought over a handful of silverware and just dropped them in a pile on the table in front of my father-in-law and walked away (??). Our table had a moment at of confusion, ".... okay? That's odd..." I had also ordered my dressing on the side, but that was not how it was served. Oh well, no big deal really. But then, we didn't see our waitress again for OVER AN HOUR; not walking past, not in the dining room at all. Our 4-year-old was starting to get very hungry and restless. Some of the parties that were seated long AFTER we were, had already gotten their food and left at this point! So I went over to the hostess (a sweet looking older lady) to ask what was going on. She was polite and apologetic, and said she would figure out what the holdup was. Soon after, she came from the kitchen and said the plates were being put on trays right now, and that our food would be out soon. At this point we were a little annoyed, but nonetheless just excited to get our food. About 15 minutes, the waitress came back with our salads.. again? "Your salad with dressing on the side!" She seemed very confused when she saw our already empty salad bowls, and said something akin to, "What is going on back there??" A few minutes later, a different waitress (or maybe a manager or something?) came with our meals (FINALLY!). Almost immediately, we were disappointed with the portion sizes, considering the price. The shrimp and steak is over 30 dollars, and on the plate was literally 5 pieces of shrimp and the smallest steak I have ever seen. The others at my table got various pasta dishes, and all were underwhelming to say the least. The pasta was very OBVIOUSLY reheated in the microwave, bland and flavorless. The lasagna and chicken tetrazzini had hot spots and were clumped in others. The spinach chicken ravioli had 3 raviolis just drowned in a soup of sauce (which was not even tasty). Sure it was a half order, but it was ridiculous. More sauce than pasta. At this point, no one at our table even wanted to eat their meals, it was that bad. I was going to complain, but the hostess was busy, so I took my kid outside just to give him a little break. Shortly after, the rest of my party came outside as well. I was surprised, and thought maybe the owner had comped the meal and we were leaving. My girlfriend said while I was out, the waitress had come and asked if anyone wanted boxes -- which everyone refused, with near full plates. She apologized , "Im sorry you didnt enjoy the food." She said we could get a free drink or ice cream if we wanted, but we just wanted to get out of there. Then, the hostess came to the table again. She did not apologize, but instead blamed the servers, and said that they couldn't find anyone good to work because everyone just wants to be on unemployment. My father-in-law make a sarcastic remark about, "thank our President for that." And the hostess went off on a strange rant about how she "didn't vote for him" and that no one wants to work because they are lazy and on unemployment, and that "the governor is killing us." She said they had already closed the Boat Bar, and were worried they may have to close the restaurant as well. My father-in-law ended up paying the bill in full, even left a tip, because thats the stand up guy he is (not that they even offered to comp it), and that is when they came outside. I was shocked when he said they charged him, and decided to go back in and pull a Karen. I walked up to the hostess and asked how she could charge them after that experience. She repeated it was unemployment's fault. I stated, "We waited for a half-hour after someone on the phone told us there wasn't a wait, we sat at the table with practically no service for an hour and waited for our food, we plated our own silverware, and the food was terrible!" She was aghast at this, "Our food is not terrible!" Everyone in the dining room was looking at us now. "And you blamed the Governor?" She says no I didn't... and the girl standing in the take out space says....yeah...you did. I continued, "These people drove up from Wisconsin; you admitted there was a problem with your service, and you still charged them full price. It's your responsibility to comp at least something when it's the business's fault. And the food WAS microwaved read more

The boat bar is super cool and unique so check that out for a drink or two. The bar and restaurant aren't connected so be aware of that and the bar is in the back of the parking lot. Very disappointed with my visit. I ordered over $60 of food that I then went and picked up. I then got home and realized that part of my dinner was not packed! I called and was given no apology. The woman I spoke to said "You didn't your mossacioli. She ran after you but you were to fast." No I'm sorry. She asked me what I wanted to do. I told her I would like credit for the meal. She told me "We don't do that." I'm not sure why you wouldn't credit someone a meal that you ruined by not giving them half of it. Supposedly I will get $5 credit for half the meal which, by the way I paid $19.45 for. Very poor customer service. They have lost a customer. I'm not sure they would even care. This place desperately needs a visit from Gordon Ramsay for his show Kitchen Nightmares. I wouldn't say the food is awful; however, it is very amateurish at best. The decor is very outdated and tacky. Someone with no taste decorated this place in an attempt to make it look like an upscale Italian restaurant. I had no issues with the wait staff - there were five employees and about five tables. The menu was surprisingly small and limited. There is a "vegetarian" menu available that essentially has one page summarizing one page of non-meat items available (including shrimp), and it restates their drink and alcohol items. Minor comments: For me this place lost points for serving side salads with ice burg lettuce and using canned mushrooms on the pizza. Also, a fountain soda is $2 and does NOT include free refills - this seems pretty steep (at least give me a can then). The Italian bread was drenched in butter. Seriously, it was way too much. It tasted like a sponge full of butter. Other reviews have commented on this. Pizza: Not good. The thin crust was hard and crusty, and a few edges of the pizza were burnt. There was not enough sauce. It looked like there was cheddar cheese on the pizza for some reason. Honestly, the pizza tasted on par with a $1 frozen pizza at Walmart. We had leftovers later and I did not eat the reheated pizza. The 11 inch pizza was about $12 and I could have made something much better at home. Italian Fiesta: Where to begin? The food was cold. Hot food should be served in a metal casserole dish or a large plate. Our food was served in a basic bowl. The pasta sauce tasted like low quality sauce from a can of ravioli. Also, despite the fact I did not like the sauce there was not enough for the dish. The meatball was just okay, but again it was cold in sauce that was not that great. The piece of sausage was not very good. I don't know if it was premade frozen or just not well made. The piece of chicken was dry and overcooked. The piece contained bones, gross dark meat, and cartilage. My friend and I were sharing the food and I said, "Watch what you eat because this piece of chicken has bones and other gross parts in it." The waitress ignored us while waiting on the people at the next table that came in after us. She took their drink order and walked away without even looking at us. She came back and took their food order while bitching about how she hated waitressing and would rather be working her normal bar position. Again, she walked away without so much as looking at us. Well, we walked right out past the host who was still sitting on her ass staring at her phone and had the nerve to say, "have a good night." The food is good and a cheaper alternative to The Casa which has similar food and the same signature Garlic Breads as The Villa Capri. Pizza is thin crust and very tasty and of course the garlic bread is really good. The key thing that gives this place a lower rating and notable at the Villa is that most of the waitresses here are not very friendly or personable. They could smile more and be more friendly to the customers. This was based on multiple visits. If you are seated in the back part of restaurant, all the waitresses stand around near the pop machine station chatting and it is somewhat distracting. Pizza is thin crust and very tasty and the garlic bread is really good. Decor is really RED and old school. Food rates 3 stars but the service is 2.5 stars. Update: 04/02/2018. Tried the Villa's take on Chicken Tetrazzini. It was not good in my opinion. The menu describes it as savory--I would beg to differ. We always stop at the Villa for pizza and garlic bread while we are in town visiting family. The pizza has been hit or miss the past couple years, which is unfortunate because it used to be fantastic. We went again this weekend while in town for a wedding and the pizza was very good. We ordered a pepperoni and a sausage and mushroom - both with light sauce. There was still more than enough sauce, so maybe regular sauce was the issue with it being meh before? The world will never know. Both pizzas were cooked well and the meats were awesome, especially the sausage. The mushrooms are from a can, but don't taste like bulk canned mushrooms which have a distinct gross aftertaste, so I was fine with it. Everyone in our group (four of us) loved the pizza! Also, the complaints about the garlic bread in the reviews confuse me. That buttery sponge is pure deliciousness. The bad: the gnocchi was awful. Really, truly terrible. Doughy and zero flavor. I forgot how much I hate the red sauce here, too. I ordered half white, half red and was able to make sort of a tomato cream sauce which was edible but I didn't eat much of my entree and ate the pizza that others ordered instead. The red sauce is watery and tastes like green peppers, since it appears to be V8 heated up with chopped green peppers. I hate green peppers and I found this displeasing. Also, $2 for a soda water and no free refills. I get annoyed with places that charge for soda water, and places without fountain refills. read more

Went for pizza and salad. Antipasto was not that great: very little cheese, a small amount of salami, no peppers, no olives, no chickpeas but lots of oil, in fact too much oil! Garlic bread was oozing with oil too. Pizza was also very greasy. Sauce and toppings were good. Crust was extremely thin and could not hold the sauce and toppings. I found this place to be quite pricey. In perusing the menu, all dinners were a la carte. Soup, salad and bread were an extra 7.50!!!! Way too expensive. Much to hot to cook at home tonight so we decided to have an early dinner out and take the bike for a ride around the island. We stopped at the Villa first. It's been a bit since we've been there but it was every bit as good as I remember it. We both had the sizzler and they were perfect. Juicy and flavorful. I had a small side dish of spaghetti and meatballs. Delicious. Skip had his side of lasagna but got it "on a cloud" with a white cheese sauce and the regular meat sauce. We loved it. I didn't eat the garlic bread because I'm watching carbs right now. Hubs ate his piece and mine. Great price tag to. Less expensive then the Casa Calabria but a little more flavor in their sauce. Sad to say this restaurant was a let down. We had a party of 9 and were treated more like it was a hassle to accommodate us. One of the servers snipped at us about having to shove folding chairs up to the table to fit everyone. For such a "nice" restaurant, they could at least invest in chairs that aren't something you'd sit at outside at a picnic. It was pretty dark, and did smell a bit musty.
