Our beer flight didn't disappoint either: Hop-Cano Hazy IPA - Fruity with pineapple and peach, a little dry with a balanced bitterness. Penitent Man IPA - Their signature West Coast IPA, hoppy and piney with a smooth finish. Bari's Passion Wheat Ale - Light and refreshing, with real passion fruit juice. Hop to the Future - Juicy with white grape and citrus flavors, great complexity. Time Traveler IPA - Piney and resinous, a throwback to classic 90s IPAs. Great brews, cozy atmosphere, and beautiful views--we even took home a Viewpoint hat! Definitely a must-stop if you're passing through Del Mar. First, we love coming here and have eaten at least 5 times on the patio. The view is amazing and the building and atmosphere very unique and airy. As an architect, I love the space, and for that reason, I try to be specific in our reservation about where we are seated because that's a major highlight of this restaurant for me. And note, I have always made a reservation, always requesting a booth, and not just walked in expecting the best table in the place. As usual, in the reservation I requested a booth along the back edge for an early dinner for three on a Tuesday so my "birder" father in law could enjoy the scenery. Not a hugely busy time for any restaurant. Once again, I was not offered one of those tables. The restaurant was maybe 20% seated with only 2 of the 8 or so booths occupied. One with a larger party of 5 or so, and another with 3 adults. We kindly asked if it was possible to sit at one of the back tables, and were bluntly told they were only for larger parties. Sure, I understand the reasoning but to see the variety of available seating areas in the mostly empty restaurant irked me, as well as the obvious party of 3 already seated, but we sat down at the table they took us to with no contest. Towards the end of the meal I overheard an older couple, just two people for the party, request a booth after being led to the same area we were seated, and the hostess, with zero resistance, offered one of those damn booths to them....while making eye contact with me. The restaurant did become a bit busier closer to 6 but still was only maybe halfway seated, including many of those coveted booths being available. it's not the end of the world, this is a trivial annoyance, but seriously, I don't come here for the food or the beer, I come here for the atmosphere and environment. It'd be one thing if they were strict about who sits in these exclusive booths, but clearly it's a judgement thing. I'm 0/5.....Who knows. I'm not offended, I'm irritated. For the most part the food is really tasty. A little pricey for the portions and what you get but overall flavorful and interesting. The rice lager is my favorite and the other beers I've tried are all drinkable, nothing to tell your beer snob friends about but not bad. Good luck with the seating competition! read more

My family comes to the Del Mar area a couple of times a year for soccer tournaments and Viewpoint Brewing was recommended to me awhile back from both Trish S and from all of the amazing reviews already on Yelp... I finally had the opportunity to check it out last Sunday evening after a soccer game at the nearby Surf Park and it did not disappoint. I made a reservation in advance for a party of eight and our party ended up being a bit larger but they were luckily able to accommodate us. (We did have several kids that squeezed in). In addition to some tasty brew, our party enjoyed ceviche, fish tacos, avocado tacos, burgers, and mac & cheese. Everyone was pleased with their orders and we all enjoyed the environment as well. Popped in on a Wednesday for lunch. Found parking on site. But I can see how it can be problematic when it's busy but there's an open lot across the street. The place was pretty empty and getting a seat with a nice view was no problem. It is dog friendly throughout, which is tops because we had our pooch with us. I was debating what to order and wanted to be good so I settled on the wedge salad and added grilled chicken. Hubs ordered the adobada pulled pork lettuce wraps and a flight of beer. When my salad came, I was like "wow!" It looked awesome. Definitely more elevated than I expected. Housemade buttermilk dressing with fresh chopped herbs. Large slabs of smoky bacon. Chopped eggs. Flavorful pieces of grilled chicken. The salad was $16, the chicken was an additional $8. Not inexpensive at $24 but it was a generous portion and delicious. I'd definitely order it again. Hubs said he enjoyed his lettuce wraps. His only critique was that he wished there were more pickled onions. Service was great! Everyone at the brewery was super friendly. If you're making your way down to San Diego or just in the Del Mar area, you need to stop by Viewpoint Brewing! Located right on the river and across from the Del Mar Fairgrounds it's the perfect spot for great food and a beer! I definitely recommend the fish tacos and the crispy Spanish octopus. Both are perfect for a warm Southern California day! On top of that there is an awesome variety of in house brewed beers to go along with your meal or just to grab a refreshing beer with friends. Decided to check out Viewpoint Brewing after going to the fair on a Wednesday afternoon. Read lots about how difficult it was to find parking and figured that if we were able to find parking, we'd check it out. Lo and behold, luck was on our side and I'm so glad we did. Since it was mid-week and mid-afternoon, many tables were available. We had a huge table and was able to see the Del Mar fairground while enjoy a libation. It's not a surprise that the beer menu was extensive but the surprising part was the wine menu was even more impressive. There were many offerings that rival many of the wine bars I've seen. Not just the usual offerings of Prosecco, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon but less often seen Cava, Assrytiko, and Nebbiolo. We decided to try their beer selection since we had over-indulged at the fair. Next time we're in the area I definitely want to try their their wine and food options. For the views and wine and beer selections alone is worth the trip. :) read more

We were seated immediately after checking in. The place was on the busier side but nothing crazy. We ordered our food relatively fast as we had seen the menu prior to arrival. Everything came out fast. The flatbread was good but it could use more hot honey or you can order more on the side, as I feel that this is what takes each bite to the next level. I ordered the steak and frites, which I personally think was mid nothing horrible but not mouthwatering. My partner ordered the burger and his only complaint was that he wish the yolk was runny but he definitely enjoyed it. After receiving it our food this place was actually busy. I wish I could say our service was impacted by this rush, but our waitress lacked service all together. We had to flag her down to request anything, never checking in on us. This place was crowded and busy last evening so my son and I found 2 seats at the bar. We have dined here before and have always returned for its outside view facing the West; it's welcoming and at times high energy ambiance , and its house-brewed beer and its food created to a different delicious level. Last evening was no exception, yet totally up leveled for us. We were craving for beer and burgers. Lucky us because we had the best servers giving us exceptional service! Came here with friends for a pre-wedding celebration and had the best time. First of all, that damn view! It doesn't seem like much from the front (I actually thought we were at the wrong place) but once you step inside, it's a whole different world. You walk in to see a large indoor/outdoor open space. It has a rustic brewery feel but not overly done - and love the string lights over the tables closer to the water. There's an amazing water view and a walking trail which is the highlight of this spot. There are different kinds of tables to accommodate various sized groups. Try to go early to secure a fire pit table along the water's edge. Friends enjoyed the different beers but I stuck to a cabernet which was so smooth I had to take a pic of the label (to buy on my own hopefully). All the appetizers were delicious and I mean all. My favorite was the mushroom flatbread. Also the service was so great and accommodating. We were a big group and just kept pouring in over the course of a few hours. Solid 4 stars. Service was superb. Food was good. Price was a bit high. And I wouldn't call that a view. Came here for dinner one night, the restaurant is located across the street from Delmar fairgrounds. It's right next to a hiking trail that wraps around the wetlands. We sat outside on the patio overlooking the wetlands, and I wouldn't really say the view is very nice. We saw many people hiking and walking with their dogs. Our server was absolutely amazing, she was attentive and super helpful and knowledgeable. She recommended several items on the menu and everything was pretty good. We got the pot pie and two of the appetizers. The broccoli appetizer, and the shrimp ceviche were both really good. Overall, it was a very nice experience. You can order them with fries or salad, which should have been a tip off that these are not the expected So Cal fish tacos, but an Americanized version. There wasn't mush fish so it felt like I was just eating lettuce and the jalapeños were in strips and very bland, they tasted like bell peppers. The ceviche appetizer was decent, though not a knockout. My husband liked his pot pie so overall I gave this a 3 star, but the tacos were more like a 1-2 star. Note: parking is tight and some of y'all may be double parked. Read the red signage and keep your phone on ya. The spot is pretty nice. The menu and drink menu has something for everyone. I thought it'd be cold sitting outside, but they have vinyl curtains up with still a view to be seen. The farmers burger was tasty, but as most bean burgers do, it fell apart. I really liked the bun they used, and the avocado added some creaminess to it. The green lettuce rather than iceberg, all really good. I just hatte I when they fall apart. read more

It was a bit different to find the place as the parking has "entrance" and "exit". It's rather packed parking space. The inside is pretty big and very nice decors. There are high seated chair areas where they are mostly close to the bar. Then there are low chairs area, where you can sit comfortably. We got seated within 5 minutes. The server was nice. The runners are also very attentive. We had burgers and Mac'n'Cheese. Burgers presentation was very nice and tasted good. The party was pretty big and it was good. The Mac'n'Cheese was ok. Ambiance is great. Food: not up to temperature. I got eggs... they literally put oil in a pan, waited for the oil and eggs to heat together. So my "fried" eggs were just oil eggs. The bacon that's supposed to be hot usually? It's also cold and covered in oil. The bread that comes with the dish? Also cold but at least it looked "hot", it toast marks on it. Service: just plain rye bread, so I wanted some butter/jam. The waitress seemed so bothered that I asked her about it. She gave me two blocks of cold butter and cold syrup. Parking: terrible.
