Beautiful views to go with amazing food and service. Decided to stop by for Sunday brunch with the family. We started with a cheese flatbread and the chick pea and tomato salad. Lots of flavor and didn't last long. They offer a kids menu of macaroni and cheese, cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and grilled cheese. We ordered a classic eggs, bacon, toast, and fries. Eggs were perfect. Classic burger with fries. The fries were seasoned just right. Kids had nuggets and macaroni and cheese. Our server was very attentive and the drink orders came out fast. Great food, great beer, and great service! What more could you ask for? I mean, free ample parking would be great but not so much in Del Mar. $5 valet was convent. Lots of dogs were dining in with their humans, and they had a decent amount of TVs for football. My apologies for not including food pics, but thousands of other people have that covered already on this yelp page! Perusing google maps through Del Mar, as one does when virtually exploring an area, and found Viewpoint Brewing Co. hanging out by the San Dieguito Lagoon. I'm a sucker for outdoor spaces near the water serving beer so off we went to try something new. THE FOODS | Plethora of different dishes ranging from sandwiches, burgers, vegetarian, tacos, flatbreads, etc. I ordered... - Charred Broccoli | Black garlic aioli, bread crumbs, Parmesan, and grilled lemon. I've been trying charred broccoli at various restaurants and this didn't disappoint. Its smokey and earthy flavors contrast the mild spiciness of the black garlic aioli and zesty lemon. It's a go for me. - Adobada Fries | Pulled pork, cheese sauce, pickled red onion, and cilantro. Although the adobada is slightly dry, the overall dish is quite tasty with the cheesy sauce reaching through the crevices to ensure each fry is properly coated. The pickled red onion lends to its tanginess and sweet flavors. - Fried Chicken Sandwich | Pickled onion, black garlic aioli, and charred provolone. I love the crispiness and tenderness of the chicken. Charred provolone is smokey and crunchy; surprisingly delicious. All the ingredients give this fried chicken sandwich life. I'd definitely order again. THE DRINKS | Beers on tap, wine, soda, Preston's ginger beer, sparkling water, kombucha, and Red Bull energy drink. I decided an IPA beer flight was the way to go... - Dipa Strikes Back | Hoppy with citrus notes. - Hop Tank Triple | Hoppy and sweet. - Slay All Day IPA | Grassy and woody. - So Cal Sol | Favorite one of the flight. It's smokey and tropically sweet with a smooth finish. - Tiny Smasher Pale Ale | A little too bitter for me. This is my least favorite. THE VIEWPOINT BREWING CO. FEELS | Elevated warehouse vibes with garage type doors that roll up and connect the interior to an expansive covered outdoor patio area. Notable are the tables with a glass walled fireplace at the center. Perfect for those cold days when you want to sit outside but don't want to freeze your butt off. Beautiful, tranquil views of the adjacent San Dieguito Lagoon and buzzing 5 freeway out in the distance are mesmerizing to watch. The bar is a zig zag configuration with angular corners, creating interesting seating arrangements throughout. THE PARKING SITUATION | $5 valet parking in front of the brewery. Self-parking is about a few minutes walking distance, where you pay per hour. Park, go to the parking machine thing, add a few hours (or more), pay with your card (or cash), receive printed parking ticket, and display it on your car dashboard. We did self parking and for a few hours, it was about $5.75. THE RESERVATIONS | Recommend reservations, especially for groups larger than 8. We were a group of 15 and initially called to reserve two patio tables with the center fireplaces. We were told to email with our reservation request, which we did... and it took about 5 days to hear back and confirm our reservation. If this is the typical timeframe to confirm availability, I recommend putting in your request for larger parties at least a few weeks in advance, and then prepare to wait. read more

This place literally embodies San Diego in restaurant form. Good beer, chill people, a great waterfront view, lots of space, dog-friendly, all in a gastropub! Plentiful seating choices both in the restaurant (there are some really fun booths with fire pits) and outside by the water. The location is so ideal you will pretty much get a good view of the water from anywhere. The food is fantastic but you're not coming here for the food -- you're really coming for the ambiance and the views paired with a nice bite and a beer, which is 110% worth it. Versatile vibes here and great for anything from a chill day with friends to a date with your dog to a work happy hour with the boss to friends/family visiting town. Takes reservations and can accommodate bigger groups. I even saw some people doing work with their laptops at the benches outside. I always pair my visits here with a walk along the San Dieguito lagoon down to the Del Mar Dog Beach -- just around a 15-20 minute walk. At some point not too long ago, I kept seeing these stunningly scenic pictures of Viewpoint Brewing. It left quite the impression. So it stayed in my mind to try to visit here whenever the opportunity arose. That time came on a lovely Saturday afternoon out & about Pulling into the cramped & disorganized dirt & gravel parking lot, & looking at the shack-like metal siding building Viewpoint Brewing is in, I was starting to believe this was a case of Instagram vs. Reality. Walking in with my partner in crime, that impression didn't much improve. It just got weirder. The entryway is a narrow hallway, which had people lined up. From the doorway, it wasn't apparent what everyone was standing around for. Turns out, that's the wait to check in for a table. A more visible location for that, like at the door, would've been better. Also, since I wanted to just sit at the bar, waiting in that line was unnecessary. Which would've been more apparent if I could've asked someone at the door. Once we pulled up a couple seats at the bar, the next weirdness was readily apparent. The bar itself is a zigzag shape like the black stripe on Charlie Brown's shirt. This creates crowded corners when someone sits down next to you. We moved to the far end to get some space for ourselves. The beertender was along in a bit & was somewhat attentive. The name of the establishment is Viewpoint Brewing Co. so I was here to try the beers. There is a kitchen, that clearly seemed to be the service priority of this place. But I stuck to a few flights of tasters. On the whole, the beers were OK. People watching during my tastings, I made a curious observation. A lot of the staff spend a lot of time socializing behind the bar with their backs to the dining area & patrons. I've never sat a bar & seen so many people facing the other way. Weird seems a theme here. While up to use the restroom in between tastings, I took a look around the whole place. Out back is the view I had somehow seen somewhere online. I just had to get past the weird layout, the so-so service, & the just OK beers to get to it. Awesomeness personified, Charles and Malcolm love their brewery and the love put into the food definitely shows. We had a porter that was not shy to say I'm in charge the Amber was more subtle and totally misleading as I had more than I should. The food was delicious with the staters the Ceviche shouted out flavor, the mushroom flatbread was definitely telling me to eat more while the Adobada fries made me think I was in Texas eating BBQ with fries The main course was a seafood pot that was sooooo good I emptied my bowl using a dipping toast. We had a minor snaffu getting into the restaurant because of an unrelated valet situation (be ready for mandatory paid valet if you didn't know) and that the part of the patio area we had planned on visiting with our kids was booked for an event. We thought about going somewhere different but honestly we were stayed by the great service from Freddy and the amazing beer list and menu - breweries we visit tend to have good food but this food menu was beyond next level - get the Mac n cheese for sure. We stayed for flights and pints and our kids had a delicious dinner of chicken nuggets and fries (enough for two toddlers/preschoolers to share). The service really was fantastic, the entire staff including management went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and as out of towners with two young kids that is so incredibly appreciated. Every beer was delicious (we tried more than half the menu and there was still more to explore!). The restaurant sits in front of a beautiful wilderness area with walking paths that are accessible from the man patio. Views and vibes are on point. Definitely add this to your list if you're an out of town visitor or a local looking for a new go to spot. read more

Great location, service and plenty of options for both food and beer! We arrived without a reservation for a party of 5 and were seated promptly on the partially enclosed (but warm) patio. The location is unbeatable, however if you choose to park in the lot, you are forced to valet (when we arrived we could have easily self parked as it was just after opening) which was a bummer. I think requiring valet after a certain time makes sense, but we were visiting so can't speak to normal traffic flow. $5 isn't break the bank- just annoying as we paid someone to pull in and out of the same spot. read more

Brewery along the water! It's super cozy, we went at night and they had all these fireplaces and heat lamps going so it wasn't cold at all. They have a bunch of small bites, bar food, and larger meal style food so you can have a meal or just casually meet over a few drinks/snacks. The staff was so nice, they allowed our friends to sample a few beers before ordering, and even though we chatted a bit longer they didn't kick us out even though they were closing. Things started off well. We came to celebrate a youth soccer tournament game. 11 families with kids. Beer is as most breweries are around the area. However, one of the team Dads who had ordered a "Best Mushroom Burger" LITERALLY took a bite, and what he thought may have been an errant piece of bone, ended up being a metal bolt. Tooth cracked, asst manager basically called him a liar. Everything else was amazing...servers were fantastic, all other food was pretty good. But the absolute lack of cleanliness and careful preparation in the kitchen is appalling. If you can miss something as noticeable as a bolt dropping into food that you are preparing, what else are you missing? 0/10, would NOT recommend! EDIT: After talking with the owner, the asst manager comped our party for the full evening's meal and drinks and potential dental work for the dad. They made right by our extended family. We had lunch at Viewpoint Brewing on our way out of San Diego the Sunday before last. We made a 1:00 reservation a day in advance and showed up with a whole crew: me and my husband, a chill baby, a screaming three-year-old, and the kids' grandparents. We thought we'd be early, but dang, that traffic out of San Diego is gnarly, something to keep in mind if you happen to be planning a stop on your drive back to L.A. Parking was easy, though, and we were shown to our table right away, with nary a blinked eye for our older son's meltdown. We strapped him, still wriggling, into a high chair and eventually got one for the baby, too. I know not everyone needs breweries to be family friendly, but we certainly appreciated it. It was also nice for other reasons, a huge space with tons of tables and a serene lagoon view. The interior was super airy, the kind of indoor/outdoor set-up I've grown to love since the dawn of COVID, with garage-style doors thrown open to meet the patio. We sat at one of the indoor tables, right in front of several giant beer silos containing some of the brews we ended up ordering. The atmosphere was relaxing but pleasantly vibrant, enough so that our kid's bad mood only affected our table. Service was excellent, friendly and lightning fast, our beers appearing almost as soon as we asked for them. Viewpoint brews on site (see above, re: giant beer silos) and offers over 20 house varieties that should cover the tastes of every beer drinker (though if beer isn't your thing, you can also get wine or a non-alcoholic beverage). Our waiter brought us free samples of the first couple we asked about, which was nice and unnecessary given that they sell 4 oz. tasters. We ended up sharing a whole bunch of 4 oz. tasters, including one of the suggested flights, and a couple of 10 oz. goblets. You can basically mix and match whatever beers catch your fancy. The beers were excellent. I loved all three in the refreshing hoppy flight: the Fan Fare IPA, the Moe's(aic) Pale Ale, and the Fairies Wear Boots IPA. The It's a pHaze IPA was fantastic, the better of the two hazy IPAs we tried, though the Cool Kids wasn't bad, just a little more bitter than necessary. This was also the case with the Bye Bri Saison, I thought, though your mileage may vary. For a light beer, I'd recommend the banana-tasty Das Chefeweizen. I also enjoyed a few of the specialty beers: the Yeast Bound and Brown Ale, the Imperial Barrel Aged Stout, and the Mr. Mulligan's, a stellar triple Belgian ale. Viewpoint is also a full restaurant with very good food, including a kid's menu. Our kid ignored his sandwich in favor of the admittedly hard-to-resist fries, but it was a great grilled cheese, with plenty of melty yellow cheese and butter (my husband and I ate some when it was clear it would go to waste). I got a fish board to share with the other grown-ups, and this was a lovely spread of lox salmon, halibut dip, trout roe, pickled red onion, dill, capers, lemon, tartar sauce, and Ritz crackers (supposedly sea salt flatbread too, but they must've been out). The halibut dip was especially good, finished with those sparkly bursts of roe. I had the Korean steak sandwich for my entree and this was delicious, tender hunks of beef with sweet soy, red chili, papaya, black garlic aioli, and cucumber on a soft, crusty bun. It came with a choice of sides and I, too, got the french fries. This wasn't a stress-free lunch, so I'm glad it was at a brewery--my sons and I all napped in the car after we left. I'd love to go back to Viewpoint on another trip to San Diego. It's a prime spot for good food and beer, with or without children. read more

Viewpoint Brewing is a cool spot out past the Fairgrounds that makes for a good place to hang out with friends. Despite being a bit off the beaten path (really, it's in a dark and odd location lol), it is popular and lively on the weekends. The space itself is the main highlight of the brewery in my opinion. It's got good space for parties of a variety of sizes, and the outdoor seating has an interesting view of the surrounding nature and walking path. Bonus points for the individual heaters that are extremely effective and cozy!! The inside can get loud, but we spent a few hours out on the patio chatting and enjoying the evening.  The food fell pretty short for me, but it might have been what I ordered. I got the spaghetti squash pasta, and was served a hodgepodge of cooked spaghetti squash and zucchini with some tomatoes thrown in. Allegedly there was also mozzarella on top, but I couldn't taste the few sprinkles. The flavor was fine, but I also felt like I paid over $20 for a plate of random heated vegetables. I probably won't be doing that again. The drinks were okay as well, but for a brewing company nothing really stood out. Still overall decent, just very pricey for just okay. A HUGE shoutout to Freddie who came to our rescue!!! What a wonderful, caring human being. We were getting a little frustrated with the wait time after an hour, with two little kids who were getting antsy and cold and he basically asked us how he could help, took our orders before we were seated so the food would arrive by the time we sat. He was super chill and nice and was very accommodating with whatever he could do and also checked on us a few times after even though he wasn't our official server once we were seated. Food was fresh and good quality and our own server was also very nice. I just wish the wait times weren't so long. But still give 5 starts all because of Freddie!!! read more

I am a big fan of Viewpoint Brewing. I've been 2 or 3 times thusfar and have enjoyed my visit everytime. The location is quite unique as it's situated around the backside of the Del Mar Horse Track on an inlet of water from the ocean. Because of it's location, it's away from teh hustle and bustle of both the beach and the horsetrack's events and really feels like you step away from it all. The view is both a little different then you'd expect being just half a mile from the beach and beautiful. I especially like their outdoor seating area which has swings and has a walking path leading right by it. They are also dog freindly, which is a plus in my book. I have only been for dinner and the food has been tasty each time. They have basic American/Brewery type food and while the menu isn't super expansive, I still believe there is something for everyone. I am very much looking forward to coming back when the weather gets a little nicer during the summer for brunch! read more

It's a solid B. I loved the causal vibe and there's a nice marshy view from the back patio. And you can easily see if the 5 freeway is moving so you can time your departure! Service was nice enough, not super attentive, but I really appreciated that my server was very honest about what's good (thumbs down for arancini and veggie burger). I ended up with some very good house fries and a sort of good veggie plate. The plate had a generous serving of mushrooms, which is always a superior feature for me. But the texture of the farro was too runny, and the guajillo sauce was just unnecessary. And yes- the beer. There's a good selection of draught beers, and I liked the one with the longest name ever- bohemian raspberry coffee tart wheat. Local born and raised, I wish I didn't have to write this but after 3 tries at viewpoint I will never be returning & will be making sure to send everyone that asks for recs to Monarch, Fidel's, Sbicca, or literally anywhere but here. Have you ever been to a restaurant where the staff is so irritated you're there even though the place is dead and you'd think they'd be happy for some business? You're in luck because this place will ruin your night and make you never want to eat out again. The parking and location is its own issue. The whole staff is horrible. Couldn't get help even though the place was dead on a cold Wednesday at the 6pm dinner rush. There were open booths with warm fire pits & we asked to sit there. "Sorry no I'm saving those in case a big party comes in". All 6 of them? There's no one here. It's a Wednesday. I understand the hostess is 16 and takes her job way too seriously but that's a management issue. I couldn't get ANY of the staff to help and the hostess not being able to handle a simple request reflects upward. It felt like the staff was avoiding the customers and trying to pawn jobs off out of sheer laziness. Made the atmosphere incredibly unenjoyable and uncomfortable dare I say UNWELCOMING. Let's start with the atrocious parking situation. This place is smashed into the most inconvenient, unsafe, hazardous spot with a truly dangerous gravel driveway, road and even the parking lot is dangerous. Del Mar Auto is my mechanic... I don't even like walking down into that area where they've decided to put the front door. It's truly industrial and not for pedestrians let alone a restaurant entrance. If you are a human who likes to walk without worrying about dying, stepping on uneven potholes, motor oil, etc don't come here. The parking meters are $4/hour. Rip off. You have to trek through the uneven gravel to the tiny UNLIT pay station that's next to the road. I actually tripped over the janky raised lines for the handicap they somehow figured was safer. How anyone on wheels actually gets over that tripping hazard speed bump I don't know. It's even complete with the bolts sticking up so you can trip and stub your toe. Oh and rest assured you'll be behind someone trying to figure out the pay system since there's only one and it's confusing so have fun standing by the road as you freeze to death. For the ambiance ... I don't know I walked in to a cold cement floor full of empty tables and the only place that looked inviting and might be okay is the fire pit booths. No one wants to sit on high tops with low backs. Ouch! Didn't like it when I was 22... don't like it now that I'm in my 30s... you're going to make my parents and grandparents sit on those? Awful. So unaccommodating and you can tell a restaurant is run poorly if the staff don't offer an alternative or suggest a solution. Whether that's seating, food they don't have or beers that are out... I tried to treat my friend out for her birthday but she ended up treating me! Just an FYI, but there is only valet parking available at this lot. We had a table outside, but it was so chilly! Good thing they had heat warmers and a fireplace available. We ordered a variety of things to share. We got the ceviche, mac n cheese with chorizo, the burrata special, meatballs, and truffle fries! Everything was tasty and delicious. My friend ordered a flight of beers, while I chose a hibiscus rose kombucha, and my other friend got a glass of Saison. I was disappointed that the kombucha came in a can, but it tasted alright. Our server was very nice and charming. He even brought out a couple of desserts for us. The presentation wasn't that great, but they were pretty huge portions of bread pudding and a brownie sundae. It was late in the evening, so there wasn't much of a view either.
