TL;DR: Was overpriced, but the repair went as planned and they fixed all issues in a week. Thoughts: I definitely paid too much to get this controller fixed considering the price of the exact same product on Amazon runs you about $114.99. I also read of some of the reviews on here and was worried by the amount of people that had bad outcomes getting this exact same product repaired. However, part of me didn't want to just throw the controller away and I also wanted to see if they could fix it properly. The controller was repaired perfectly for a 54% higher price than a new controller would have been and they did it in a short turnaround. When I dropped my Pikachu 2DS XL I was absolutely devastated when I saw the top screen was completely black. I played that thing every day and it was suddenly gone in an instant. I was in a state of panic looking for a place to get it repaired, especially since you can't buy them for a reasonable price new anymore. I then stumbled upon Video Game 911 online and saw the good reviews, so I shipped my precious baby to them from Michigan to New Jersey. I was so anxious the whole time fearing the worst and regretting not trying to find a more local place. The fear of them stealing my money and my DS was at the forefront of my mind the entire time. When I looked up the tracking number and saw that my package was delivered two days prior I was scared that my fears were right since I got no email update from them whatsoever. Trying to keep my hopes up I messaged them and they promptly responded an hour later that it was going to be under diagnostics that day. I didn't want to message anything further just in case they got annoyed and made me wait even longer, or worse (I'm just an anxious and paranoid person, they didn't really do anything to warrant these fears of mine)! I shipped it on Sep 11th, and got the notification that the analysis was complete on the 19th. After I made my payment that night, I got an email notification that it was being worked on the following morning. Finally, on the 23rd, I got my DS back, and I am so relieved and happy! It might sound stupid, but this thing really means a lot to me, and I am so happy that they were able to fix it with only minimal dents on the front edges (I assume it was from taking the dang thing apart). The stylus had also been kinda loose in the storage slot, and I forgot to take it out before I shipped it, and was happy to see it was still in there and didn't get lost. In retrospect, for the sake of my own sanity, I probably should have looked for a repair place locally, but even after all that stress, I am so happy with how it turned out, even though I am now out 140 sum dollars, which I would have had to spend that to repair it anyway so I'm glad it went to some knowledgable people. In the future, I plan on sending my old Game Boy Advance SP and my Playstation 2 to them for repairs once I have the cash (I am also not apparently as emotionally attached to those items as I am to my Pikachu 2DS XL) because they are certainly a reliable company that can fix them. I sent my Wii U in to get the HDMI port fix.. the guy told me that he fixed it and sent me back my system with a AV wire I plugged in the HDMI wire still did not work. After a string of emails back and forth finally agreed for me to send the system back in that he didn't fix anything on and swore he did to tell me that it worked fine. I requested him to send me a video of the system work and it took two weeks for him to send me the video then magically the system was working properly. I am giving them two stars as a benefit of the doubt since they were quick to respond, even though they will only deal with you via their service request forms first and their automated phone system will hang up on you under all circumstances. Basically, I should have known based upon how abrasive their intake system is that it was only going to get worse. I really tried to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, having met many abrasive people that mean well. But the dude was simply angry at me for asking questions. I can't read his mind, but he really thought I could in the way he was addressing me. Of course I'm going to ask lots of questions about cost and liability moving a $10k+ piece of equipment through a tricky spot. He was gaslighting me on costs and couldn't articulate how his business functioned in terms of moving fees. Blaming me for not understanding the fee structure that he never told me and saying he's trying to cut me a break by not telling me how much the overall move process will roughly cost. He called my unit inoperable when I told him that one component was malfunctioning. The ratio of my patience to bullshit tipped at a certain point and I had to walk away. They need to quote the moving fees separately from the maintenance. I think that was part of the problem. Asking basic information pertaining moving an expensive item came across to him as me assuming that his business was inadequate. He was playing games with me. I could smell the bullshit. Well, not all stories have happy endings. After about a week my console started having problems again, and within 3 to 4 weeks it was unbootable. When I sent it in the last time, I was told that it probably needed a new hard drive. I told them okay, but I wasn't going to pay for one as the one that was now bad was the one they had just installed four months prior. Actually, that's not true - they asked how much I'd be willing to pay for a new hard drive and I said $50.00, as I could find 2TB 2.5" drives at Amazon for about that much. They told me that wouldn't be enough but they thought they could get it working with the old one. Now, when I told them it has failed again they said they'd be willing to diagnose it but I'd have to pay for repairs. So, since I had a new spare 2.5" drive lying around I just took it apart and did it myself. Very easy repair. I only hesitated to try and fix it the first time around because my Xbox 360 was an incredible pain to take apart and put back together. Without a special tool you are sure to break some plastic tabs off the case. Anyway, this repair went well (look online for a tool that formats the drive in preparation for the installation). So, with shipping back and forth and the repair bill I'm out about $200.00 by sending it to them first. Even worse, I have been mostly without my Xbox One for several months. My advice to you is repair it yourself or send it to someone who does good work and stands by it. Steer clear of Video Game 911! read more

Overpriced scammers. I sent over 4 controllers. They looked at 3 of them and told me it would cost over $210 to get 3 them repaired. Keep in mind these controllers only have one problem all button issues. When I told them I didn't want to get them repaired for that price. They started taking forever to respond to my messages. When they finally responded, they charged me 20 dollars for each controller just to send them back. I ended up paying over $80 to get my broken controllers sent back, something that cost me $16 to ship all 4 of them together. Keep in mind they didn't even touch one controller. Well, I really wish I could give a better review. I had very high hopes. I was desperate for someone who could help me salvage my save data after my Nintendo Switch suddenly bricked. Pokemon only saves to the console, unfortunately, and I had a precious collection of a living dex, shinies, and 6 IV fighters I loved. I saw the bad reviews and I was doubtful, but their website makes big promises about saving Switches and after contacting them they assured me they were 'confident' they could save my data. Well, I'm guessing you can predict how this turned out. They said there was no way to preserve the data and charged me 30 bucks for the pleasure. There was an alternative to buy a refurbished Switch for 267 dollars, which is frankly laughable. Communication was fast but dismissive. I'm fairly certain there was a fix for the issue, as I've seen multiple people solve the same problem on YouTube by replacing a certain chip, but they refuted this. They didn't have a satisfying reason why this was the case. Got the distinct notion I was being talked down to and they were failing to fully describe or investigate the issue. Oh well. Giving two stars instead of one becuase they are very responsive and keep track of your stuff very well. This was a really unfortunate experience from beginning to end. Long story short, I spent a lot of time and money sending my Playstation back and forth and they were completely unable to fix it. It felt like they didn't believe me when I alerted them to the system remaining unplayable after they had made repairs. I made use of the warranty to no avail, and the system currently remains broken, despite my being told repairs had been made twice. Even if there was a way for me to return it once more, I just feel like cutting my losses might be more worth it considering previous attempts haven't been fruitful and have cost me more money just in shipping costs. If a console is notorious or seems like a difficult repair, go elsewhere and find a specialist, if a console seems like an easy repair, it may just be smarter to fix it yourself. I should have listened to the terrible reviews but I was desperate to have my switch fixed immediately. My repair order requested that they ONLY remove the stripped screws from my console. I am experienced in electronics repair, so I was pretty confident I could fix this known issue with my console on my own. What did these neck beards do? They went ahead and removed the screws, then "repaired" the SD card slot. I specifically stated in the RO that I did not want the SD slot repaired or replaced. They went ahead and made these repairs without my consent. When I said I did not want these repairs and I wanted it returned without repairs, they said they had to due to their "warranty", essentially forcing me to pay for repairs I explicitly stated that I did not want. No doesn't mean no apparently. To be honest I just wanted my console back so I went ahead and paid the $80 they demanded to remove screws, replace screws, and clean the SD slot. Nintendo actually quoted me the same price when I called them to inquire about my issue. I wish I had just sent it to Nintendo honestly. If I ever have an issue with a console again, I'll attempt to repair it myself first, and then do extensive research and go ANYWHERE except this place. Other notes: Their customer service is pretty abrupt. The only way to speak with them is through their awful website which is not at all mobile friendly. The no contact drop off and pickup is pretty excessive. Sure it feels safe, but it's also a little hysterical. And this is coming from someone who works from home, doesn't eat in restaurants and only goes grocery shopping when I absolutely have to. Advice to other reviewers: just go somewhere else. Sad, I had our Xbox One X sent to them in July for the dreaded HDMI black screen. Was the cost of what the machine was worth to be fixed. When it was sent back in August, we powered it up and did updates. Everything appeared to be working fine. This Xbox remained in the Office as a backup. It had remained in our office since August without being plugged in. Last night we plugged in and powered up. No screen. We did all the HDMI checks and cords and it appears to be the exact same issue. BLACK SCREEN NO SOUND. Video Game 911 says they only warranty 3 months. They also said they used all new parts. I asked if they would allow me to call the manufacturer of the parts they used. I did this because they say they used new parts? I also figured if anything they would like to know the feedback of the parts failure. We used it a total of 3 times. As of right now all I know is that the remote operates the Xbox one X and there is just a black screen with no sound. Exactly the way it was when we sent it in July. Video Game 911 would not allow the parts company to be contacted. They would not even say who they bought though. They said if I ship it back to them for 30 more dollars, they would perform a new diagnosis. They may give a discount from the 158 they charged last time. Keep in mind (we never used this Xbox) its worth 120 bucks if that? Just not worth it to send back again. To save us the shipping and time I asked if they could just let us know what discount (IF ANY) if it is the same issue. They will not say. They would not even toy with the Idea that it would be the exact same issue. Even though it is doing the exact same thing. I do not have a great understanding of electronics. They could tell me anything and I would have to believe it. How would I know if they didn't just take it apart and try to soldering the original part? Before I sent in my Xbox 360 to have it fixed, I consulted their customer service rep twice through chat if I needed to ship all of my wires with my system. They both gave me a different answer. Reviewing the console repair business side of things. Let me start off by saying it's really difficult regardless to find a repair shop that can fix XBOX elite controllers but I decided to trust this site since it was listed on the the top of the google search list that I initiated. I sent in my elite controller with my left thumb-stick having some dragging issues and asked them to fix it. The controller was fairly new, I had damaged it with playing a little too aggressively but with any hardcore gamer how could you not. Anyway I sent it in it took forever to get fixed (a little over 2 weeks) and then paid the $75 dollars for the replacement part and labor to end up getting my controller returned in worse condition then when I originally had sent it in. Now both my thumb-sticks don't work properly and I'm out $75. The wait time, I get it we're in a pandemic and you need time to properly and safely handle everything but the fact is that they messed up my controller even worse. the only reason I didn't give a 1 star review is after I contacted them about now my right stick issue they attempted to assist me so I could fix it myself but come on, I sent it in to you guys to repair it why should I have to try and fix it myself? I put in my PS3 for repair. Was told it was BER. I accepted this diagnosis and received my PS3 back in worse shape then it was in originally. It was dropped and the aluminum part for the power on and eject is missing along with the light indicator. It was not even cleaned. The Thermal paste was haphazardly smeared on. It would not even power on because the power device via D/C was not connected again. I had to wait an entire month for the box for shipment to be sent back to via UPS. I would say if you ever need to repair a console look it up via youtube. There you will find what you need to fix an XBox, SNES, N64, WII, PS2, 3, 4, and 5. I can't speak to Video Game 911's console repair business, but their pinball repair service is solid. The owner kept costs down and his team did a good job overall. My machine is still running well! Pinball repair in general is expensive, but his prices are on par or lower than others in the NJ area. I don't think it's fair that Video Game 911 has such low reviews on Yelp when their pinball repair team is quite good. The only other pinball repair review on Yelp for this company was omitted and it was a positive review. The owner really knows what he's doing and so does his team. The first time that I went on the website a year ago, I'll admit that it was pretty sketchy looking. But when I drove my Xbox One and PS4 over, the person I met with was friendly and very upfront about what they would do. Throughout the process, the technician let me know exactly what was going on. I got both back in working condition, and I have since had no troubles with my PS4. My Xbox One is acting up again now, so I feel good about dropping it off again to get checked out before the holidays.
