FIRST Impression: -Full disclosure, I've had my lashes done, intermittently, by Vida over the last 8 years. She is a one woman show that started out in a nail salon, then a hair salon, and now performs her lash services in the basement of (her) single family home. -A quick google search of "Vida Lashes" should bring you to her web page (www. https://www.vidalashesdc.com) for scheduling. -Vida's home workspace layout includes a reclining chair, spa soundscape music, a pleasant earthy aroma, light refreshments and a welcoming smile from Vida : )\ -A thorough discussion and agreement about the style/process of lash extensions is always had before lash application. Vida will make suggestions based on the style you want and the health/capability of your own natural lashes. -Service begins with a very light application of a mixed oil/serum applied to the forehead and temples (this is optional and not necessary for lash services, but smells great AND helps you relax!) -Lash extensions are applied to each individual lash. Depending on your requested style/natural lashes, application takes 2-3 hours. For Families: No. This service is one on one with no extra individuals allowed. It requires concentration from the technician, and remaining relatively still for the client. For Couples: No. If both people are to be serviced, it would still be advised to come at your designated appointment time. For "Kinfolk": Yes! Vida exudes kindness, warmth, professionalism and understanding. She has clients of all races and, as an African American woman, I feel extremely comfortable being myself, and having my services performed here. FINAL Impression: Lash extensions are a huge deal for the people that wear them. Its always tough finding a balance between what is current, trendy, AND good for you in the beauty industry. Vida does a phenomenal job at managing client expectations with what is healthy, hygienic and reasonable for your natural lashes. I always leave extremely satisfied. I work in the medical field and my face is typically covered by a mask and/or shield. I've had patients see my lash extensions THROUGH my face shield and inquire about them. Vida did a fabulous job filling my lashes. She was extremely gentle and her chair was SO comfortable. Vida was extremely professional and courteous. I made an appointment for eye lash extensions and the process was seamless. Vida texted me to push the time back and I really appreciated it that she reached out. She made sure I was comfortable and didn't have any questions before we started the process. I let her know the look i was going for and she definitely delivered. She is very patient and carefully goes through the care process with you so that your lashes last as long as they can. You will be laying down for about two hours, so make sure you don't have anything to drink before. I had water before we started and that was a mistake haha. The location was inviting and clean. Okay.....where to start...DAVIDA!!!!! This woman is unbelievably kind!!! And professional!!!! And talented!!!! And all of the things you hope and want from someone who is apply things to your eyes!!!! The first time I went Davida explained everything to me. Honestly I didn't even really care why she put the lashes where she put them (it was based on the shape of my eye FYI) or why I should use rose water but when I left that place I knew more about eyelashes than I ever even knew I wanted or needed to. Fast forward to three days after I had my eyelash extensions applied....my stepfather died very suddenly. Vida was warm and welcoming! I've had lashes for almost a decade prior to COVID and gave them up during the pandemic. I had such a great experience with Vida! She was extremely friendly and professional. She started by welcoming me and asking me if I wanted anything to drink. She then asks questions to make sure that she understands how you want the look to come out, your lash health, and any previous work you've had done on your lashes. She assesses the health of your lashes, applies a lavender scented oil to help you relax, and works gently to apply the lashes. She is very communicative throughout the entire process, which I loved! I love Vida! Not only does she make me look 10 years younger when I leave, she is also gentle and kind. My lashes have changed my like. Getting ready in the morning is no longer a chore with eye lash curlers and dry mascara. All I do is put on tinted moisturizer and lip gloss, before I run out the door. And if I go to the gym during lunch, I hop in the shower quickly and repeat. These lashes are a miracle worker. I've had lash extensions so many times and so many places, and even with talented/experienced techs, my weak and brittle lashes always end up falling out along with the extensions. Vida understood my concerns and not only did she do a beautiful job with my set, but I experienced zero breakage or sparse-ness in my natural lashes afterwards. I've been to probably 4 or 5 other lash places in the DC area and let me tell you, my best experience by far has been with Vida. As other reviewers have said, she is very professional and knowledgeable about proper lash care. I've been getting lash extensions for nearly 3 years, and apparently this entire time I was getting extensions that were too thick for my natural lash, which explains why I had so many lashes break off or get tangled. Vida took the time to explain this to me and to tell me about how I can take care of my lashes to prevent further damage. When she did my lashes, she used a thinner extension but still was able to give me the full volume look that I like, and my eyes feel noticeably more comfortable this time around. All in all, I had a great experience with Vida and would recommend to anyone considering lash extensions in the DC area - you'll be in great hands. read more
