I have been a patient at The Dental Group for over 3 years and unfortunately I can no longer…read morerecommend them after my most recent experience. They do not do well at supporting patients with sensory issues or dental anxiety, or conditions like TMJ that make dental visits difficult. With new patients they are kinder, but with every visit I have made they have become less supportive and less accommodating. My last cleaning was extremely unpleasant and I was shamed into not taking breaks over the course of multiple procedures and fittings even though holding my jaw open causes my TMJ to flare. Then there's the high-pressure upselling. For several years, the dentists and hygienists at this practice have been trying to get me to buy a dental-grade night guard out of pocket, even though I had an over-the-counter one I had been happy with. I finally agreed because they told me it would help my gums and that I would face severe consequences if I did not "make the investment." I had to pay $750 (!!!) out of pocket. When the night guard arrived, it was so bulky and uncomfortable that I could not get a good night's sleep in it and I woke in the morning with severe jaw pain on both sides of my jaw. I went back to have it adjusted and suddenly I was being told that having a night guard means sleeping with your mouth open and accepting dry mouth, that jaw pain often gets worse at first, and that I would have to accept some bad sleep in order to become accustomed to the night guard. I cannot stress enough that this was NOT disclosed to me prior to when I made the purchase. Since the practice knew about my sensory and dental anxiety issues, I feel strongly that they should have talked to me about what the night guard would be like before pushing me to buy it. When I explained the above, the practice offered me only a partial refund, which would mean that I spent hundreds of dollars on nothing. I feel my trust was taken advantage of and I would encourage others to look for a different practice.

Not only is her tone demeaning, she had the gall to talk about my personal informational at the front desk, where other patients could hear. She's also thought it wise to argue with me. Barbara is a dark stain on this establishment and should be dealt with accordingly. Barbara is the ONLY reason for my rating being shy of five stars.

First I will say - I LOVE Dr. Alexander and it brings me much sadness to leave his practice after…read morebeing a patient there since 2005 (the only dentist I've had since I was a freshmen in college). However, Penny - his front desk receptionist - is the rudest and most unprofessional person I've ever dealt with at a medical office. After being told I would have to wait 6 months to reschedule a routine cleaning, I said I wanted to speak with Dr. Alexander. She said I could speak with him at lunch. She then told me he was too busy to be able to speak with me and not to come there to speak to him (and sent a rolling eyes emoji). She refuses to answer my phone calls and will only send me text responses (and seems very comfortable talking to me - a patient far before she worked there - in such an unprofessional manner). She specifically said I'm 1 of thousands of patients implying I don't matter. So I guess now I have to find a dentist where I matter no matter how many patients there are.

I'd scared of dentists my whole life until I met Dr. Alexander. I must say, if you are looking for…read morea peaceful dentist visit, this is the place. I had cavities and I never felt scared or judged -- Dr. Alexander made it as pleasant an experience as drilling teeth can be. The staff including receptionists are also very sweet. When getting worked on there are [optional, of course] movie goggles and the movie selection is great! Nothing distracts you from the pain of drilling like watching a movie. Not only that, but you are physically blocked from watching a Novocaine needle being stabbed into your mouth. If you have a phobia of needles, these goggles are pretty neat. Dr. Alexander also practices with a conservatism that not many dentists use nowadays. For example, I was having TERRIBLE tooth pain and thought I may need a root canal (advil around the clock... I could sense my liver being poisoned). Although over half the signs pointed to a classic root canal case, the other half were ambiguous or certain signs were missing. Thus, after 3 visits, two different types of x-rays and various tooth tests, he decided not to do a root canal which I am thankful for because it turns out it was a sinus infection causing the pain. I'm very happy I avoided an unnecessary and painful procedure through a little detective work and caution. Dr. Alexander is also very good when it comes to explanations. He takes the time to explain what's going on in your mouth to you in a way you can understand. If you ask a question about your mouth, you will get an answer that makes sense and evidence to back it up. The equipment is very up-to-date so you get clear pictures of what's going on on the inside to support your questions. Overall, I am very happy with Dr. Alexander and would recommend him.

Avoid at all costs!!!…read more This is by far the worst dental office I have ever been to and it's honestly surprising to me that they are not out of business by now. Not only were there serious issues with the level of care I received, but the medical billing department is completely incompetent. 1. Horrible Care I came to Family Dental Group to get my wisdom teeth extracted. I came for the consultation and provided the doctor with X-rays showing that my wisdom teeth were impacted. The doctor scheduled the surgery. When I showed up for the surgery I was expecting to receive anesthesia but the doctor informed me that I would not be getting any anesthesia and that he just planned on numbing me. I asked if it were possible to do anesthesia instead and he laughed and said no that he would have to call someone who is licensed in that to come if I wanted anesthesia. What kind of oral surgeon isn't even licensed to give anesthesia?? That should have been my red flag to walk away but I already took off of work so I went on with the appointment. BIG MISTAKE. The procedure began with multiple painful numbing shots in my mouth and gums. Before he began I told the doctor that I did not feel like my mouth was sufficiently numb but he began extracting anyway. He told me I should only feel pressure and to let him know if I felt pain. By the time he got to my bottom teeth I felt extreme, piercing pain to the point where I was sobbing in the chair and told him about the pain. He then told me that there was nothing he could do for the pain since my teeth were so deeply impacted that they were near the nerve. He knew that my teeth were impacted this deep from the consultation weeks before and was negligent by deciding to schedule the surgery anyway without any anesthesia and without at the very least giving me the choice in what I wanted to do. Since I was already in the chair with half of my bottom tooth extracted (it broke off) I was completely trapped. He moves on to the right side of my mouth (the side I told him did not feel numb enough) and the pain was even more excruciating. It got so bad that he had to stop in the middle of it and go see another patient before continuing. I now have anxiety to ever step foot in a dental office again after this traumatizing ordeal. Do not put yourself through this! 2. Incompetent Billing Staff Not only did I have a horrible and painful experience getting my teeth extracted, I also have been dealing with the incompetent billing staff at this sham of an office for 9 months! I have both a primary medical insurance and dental insurance provider. My dental provider will not pay on any claims until they get a "denial of coverage" statement from my medical provider. I explained this to the billing staff time and time again yet they still have not obtained a denial of coverage letter from my primary insurance nor have they provided this letter to my dental insurance. I called multiple times and kept getting the run around until last week (9 months after the procedure), I got another bill in the mail from the dental office charging me full price for the procedure. I called and was told that I needed to reach out to my insurance companies myself since the billing department was unable to get a hold of them. I asked for the dental office to let me know when requests were made to either company (either written or oral) and what the responses were and the billing agent was unable to answer my questions and simply stated that "it is hard to keep track when dealing with two companies." I asked if they have any records that any requests were submitted to either company and was told no. When I urged them to reach out again and get this resolved I was told that I needed to make the calls myself and essentially do the job of the billing personnel. I called my dental insurance and discovered that they only submitted the claim once, without any proof of denial of coverage, and never submitted any further documentation. I then reached out to my primary insurer, obtained a denial of coverage letter, and emailed it to my dental provider all in one day. The fact that the dental office could not accomplish this in 9 MONTHS is baffling.

However, Dr. Bustillo was nice but her dental practices were HORRIBLE. When I sat down in the chair, I noticed the office was not clean. She doubled booked and had another gentlemen that came to correct a dental mishap. The only service I was having that day was a basic cleaning. I LIE to you NOT! She cleaned her dental instruments on my dental bib. It was very unprofessional and disgusting. In all of my years have I NEVER witnessed a dentist go that far. It doesn't stop there, she took XRays and told me I had a couple of CAVITIES. I instantly became concerned because prior months back my old dentist said there were NO cavities. When I left the office I vowed to NEVER return. I went to another dentist that examined my teeth and took additional XRAYS, she said I did NOT have any cavities and she urged me to have another cleaning before the normal 6 months ended. Sad to say, I was not surprised, I'm glad I did not allow Dr. Bustillo to drill into HEALTHY teeth. It makes me question, her motives, did she lie about me having cavities OR is she just not knowledgeable of her craft. This is not to tear anyone's practices down, I want to WARN anyone that is thinking about setting an appointment with this doctor. Please be careful going to just anybody, take your time, read reviews. If you still go to her regardless of this warning, I feel sorry for you.
