Shrimp and Grits
Pasquale V.

Would have been a 5 but like most restaurants, they were short staffed. Maybe we caught them between shifts. I have to say, the bartender was outstanding! 100% customer focused and attentive. I ordered the shrimp and grits. Best I've ever had. Creamy texture to the grits. Andouille sausage, big shrimp (cooked to perfection) cherry tomatoes and peppadews. Some spice and creaminess to balance. Highly recommend! The interior was stunning! Southern charm at its finest.

If you book a reservation on Resy.com, it is for Vic's River Grill, but if you book on OpenTable, it's for Vic's on the River. We went to the wrong place at first and the host was very kind in explaining and getting us sorted out. At Vic's River Grill, had the Fried Green Tomatoes and Blue Crab Beignets. The FGTs come with a lovely tomato chutney and goat cheese on top and then smoked gouda grits undernesth underneath. Definitely my favorite od the evening. The beignets are also worth a try, the parmesan adds a nice touch. Both my wife and I got the half portion salad which was still fairly big. I had salmon on top and choose the green goddess dressing and the salmon was cooked perfectly. She also had a cup of the French onion soup that she had enjoyed. Pretty extensive wine selection and a good beer list, while being very fair priced - not sure why we waited so long to come here but we will be back!

The location of the restaurant just along the water is lovely. We were worried it would be an overpriced tourist trap (and it's not super cheap) but it was certainly worth it. The cocktail menu is solid with some unique offerings, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was great. We did a salad, smash burger, and the crab beignets and they were all solid. It wasn't as crowded as some nearby restaurants so that's a win as well. Overall, a very good experience!

Filet Mignon with crab topping with double mash

Found Vic's River Grill (VRG) online and we made reservations for 8pm. Probably like many others, we ended up at the sister location, Vic's on the River. Thankfully, Vic's on the River was nice enough to direct us to the right spot. We arrived at VRG about 15 mins early and were told that we would have to wait/come back at our reservation time. There's a little novelty shop with clothing and items that you can peruse right next door. Finally it was our reservation time and we were led into the restaurant. We were told that the building is historic so there have not been many upgrades or changes, but the decor is really nice. The lights are low so this is a good date night spot. For appetizers we ordered the crab cakes and crab beignets. I will tell you that the most amazing thing on the menu are the crab beignets!!!! Ahhhh....they were firm but soft and the filling filled your mouth with amazing goodness!! THEY ARE, WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE BEST THING ON THE MENU! For the entree, Kelly let us know what the specials were. I had the steak with crab on top with a side of mashed potatoes (it comes with asparagus as well but I'm not a fan so I got double mash). The steak was nice, more medium rare than medium, but my daughter's pasta with artichoke hearts was inedible. She has to take the artichokes out of the pasta and place it on the side. The shrimp and grits were great as well. The drinks were okay. Lemon Drop Martini was great! A woman in my group got the Expresso Martini with a side of Bailey's. After receiving it she asked if there was Bailey's in the drink because the drink was dark. She asked twice and it never came so a person in our party had to get up and get the Bailey's because our server forgot to pick it up from the bar. In the end, I would go to VRG just for the out of this world crab beignets!

Friendly! Delicious! Welcoming! Friends and I were in town for a festive weekend and we were hungry, as we walked by the smells coming out of VRG's enticed us in. We sat outside so we could people watch and see the river flow by, what perfect weather we had for it. We were taken care of by Mike, he was perfect. Knew the menu, answered out questions, kept the drinks full is full, and had good recommendations. Plus he was cute to boot!! I had some tomato bisque soup and the chicken and waffles, oh wow the spice was amazing, my friend had a smash burger and the other had the eggs Benedict. We all cleaned out plates. You must go!!

We came here before an event and they were so nice to allow us a party of 9 to come in and order a couple of drinks and appatizers. We ended up almost trying all of their cocktail drinks. I had their Yellowfin Tuna Tartar and it was so good! I honestly finished it in two bites it was so fresh and just amazing! For my cocktail I had their blueberry lemonade cocktail? I can't remember the full name but it was delious it was the best blueberry theme cocktail I have ever had! Thank you guys for being so amazing and working with us!

Grilled Salmon Oscar

Without any reservations Thursday evening, we were lucky to get a table right away near the bar and close to the live music. The hostess by the the front door informed us that the restaurant is a sister restaurant to the original Vic's Restaurant but had a different flare of southern food and a modern take to craft cocktails. Cocktails hit the spot and average price compared to other restaurants in the area. Savannah bars charge a lot for drinks so don't be shocked. The fried green tomatoes were out of this world. Nicely flavored tomatoes paired well with the smoked gouda grits. It's topped with creamy chevre cheese and balsamic vinegar dressing. The Grilled Salmon Oscar also pared well with blue crab meat, asparagus, and potatoes. The fish was flaky and perfectly cooked. The menu does recommend a wine for each meal and we chose a Malbec. Wonderful location and ambiance. Highly recommend.

Vic's is an amalgamation of venues, wrapped into one facility. A restaurant, a riverside grill, a coffee shop, a catering/meeting venue. I've had drinks at Vic's on the River and reviewed those separately. A laid back vibe with attentive bartenders. Vic's River Grill appears to have a pared down menu compared to Vic's on the River. I had the fried green tomatoes. Don't ask my why, because it's my husband's passion dish, but even when dining alone, I feel compelled to try them. These were quite good, served with a salty tomato chutney, smoked gouda grits, balsamic, and chèvre. Perfectly breaded. Delish. For my entree I had the filet mignon, which was tender. Wish it had a little more salt and pepper or seasoning, but was good and cooked medium as requested. It came with a loaded mashed potato side and asparagus. Asparagus was perfect. The potatoes seemed a little warmed over like they had sat under a warming light for a while, but the flavors were okay. All my drinks were good. I had a paper plane, Vic's version of an Old Fashioned, and the Strawberry rhuby. The rhuby was light and not too sweet. The other two were smoky, slow sippers. The River Grill also has a few soups (French onion, tomato, she crab), salads (mixed green, wedge, chopped fried chicken, caesar, whipped goats cheese). They have a smash burger as well. Entrees include scallops, the previously mentioned filet, mahi mahi (I saw one next to me and it looked super tasty), catfish, and a fried seafood platter. My service was EXCELLENT. I don't remember her name, but she was a big, beautiful, confident Black QUEEN and she treated me like royalty. So Vic's, whomever matches that description, you let her know she reigns supreme. The tables were bright, white, clean, and plenty of room in between. Some things Vic's on the River serves that the grill doesn't: a few more appetizers and salads, more entrees with a lot more seafood available (oysters, scallops, salmon, flounder, shrimp, fish tacos, shrimp pasta etc). Several more sandwiches aside from a burger (black and blue chicken, short rib, fried green tomato BLT, reuben, po boy). Several more cocktails. But I made this reservation literally minutes before arrival and it was much easier to get than the original vic's. So unless you want something very specific, vic's grill does the job and is a wonderful experience.

Beautiful river view even from the back of the restaurant.

Such an amazing experience! The service was outstanding with Elaina genuinely making our evening amazing and the food was beyond incredible. The manager and chef were even able to stop by. Again such an incredible experience. Best meal since landing in Savannah for vacation. (Lump crab cake, She-Crab soup and grilled shrimp tacos. We were truly wowed! Well done, VRG! We will be back!

Vic's is located right on the water and a convenient place to stop for a nice meal. We opted for breakfast food as it didn't quite feel like a heavier option. Beautiful bar and interior with a piano! Server was very friendly, although took awhile for food. Everything was delicious!

Waitress was from rochester NY which was awesome to have someone close to home. She had great recommendations and knew the menu very well. Complementary biscuits w/ honey butter 10/10 I'm certainly glad they only give you two because otherwise I would eat these all night long. They were amazing, especially with the honey butter. Fried green tomato 10/10 Amazing combo of tomato chutney with the goat cheese, WOW delicious. Not a huge fan of the grit though. They were a little hard i think, i wish they were just cooked to be a minute softer. I also didn't think they were cheesy either. Truffle Mushroom risotto (special) 8/10 I just wish it had a deeper flavor of truffle and mushroom, it was a little plain to me. It was also a little bit hard, and I wish it was cooked a bit softer. Chicken was cooked great. Shrimp & grits 10/10 We were told they were voted best in Savannah. They were great. The combo of corn, tomato, and grit with the sauce was fantastic. Sauce was buttery. Not very spicy.

I barely have words for how great this experience was but thank goodness I do otherwise a Yelp…read morereview would make no sense. We were skeptical about a jazz dinner but from moment one entering the space we knew we were in for a treat. It is a very small and intimate space and our group of 6 got a table right by the stage. Our server was amazing and the menu was epic - everyone ordered something different and so I can't highlight one thing or the other because everyone loved it all. Don't skip out on the after dinner drinks and coffees as well! The performers we had really read the room and picked up on the energy and went through a mix of classics as well as modern like Adele. Everyone was having a great time and even singing along when encouraged. It was a great evening! Tip: Do the earlier show and get there early so you can enjoy your meal in time for dessert and cocktails and coffee once the show starts!!

We came for the early show/dinner and saw Deas Guyz on a Sunday, the music was incredible. I highly recommend seeing them if you can (they play The Jazz Corner every Sunday per the website). Our server was also helpful and great. Shows sell out, so make sure you grab tickets in advance on their website. For dinner, I had the Filet Mignon with Lobster Tail. The steak and lobster were a bit overcooked for my taste, but still tasty. The meal came with mashed potatoes and green beans, both cooked and seasoned perfectly. My mom had the halibut special, and the fish was definitely overcooked as well. For drinks, I had the TJC Hurricane with dinner and the Hershey's Kiss after. Both were probably the best drinks I've had in Hilton Head, strong and delicious. If you like something sweet and chocolatey, the Hershey's Kiss is a must, honestly better than dessert! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Hilton Head.

Music incredible. Atmosphere incredible…read more Vibes perfect. Everything great. My wife and I stumbled upon this place completely on a whim on our last night in town. We came for the music, and it absolutely delivered but so did everything else. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed and encouraged to slow down, relax, and truly enjoy the experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, the service was exceptional, and the entire evening felt special. I ordered the Duke Ellington ribeye, and without exaggeration, it was the best ribeye I have ever eaten. As ridiculous as it may sound, time seemed to stop for a moment. Every bite was packed with flavor that hit something deep inside me and took me back to simpler times. It was one of those rare meals that becomes a memory. The experience was so good it almost brought a tear to my eye. Not because it was fancy or expensive, but because the level of care, craftsmanship, and excellence put into that meal was something truly special. My wife ordered the pasta primavera and she described it as simple, light, but packed with flavor. We stayed for hours vibing to the incredible musicianship displayed. The warmth of the staff felt like family. Wish we were local so we could make this a regular date night spot. Thank you for an unforgettable evening. We'll be talking about it for a long time.

They didn't even have ginger ale! We literally tried multi drinks! It was so bad other patrons and the piano player were coming over to us asking if we ordered late and apologized for everything! NO we did not!! The fact that you have to pay at the door before hand and then not get even dessert!! How do you run out of vanilla ice cream!!! We had people in our party that were gluten free and could only eat the ice cream-Seriously no ice cream when your own menu specifically stated that it was the only dessert and we watched as other patrons got theirs first and nothing for our table !!! This event was such a disaster!! You ruined our trip!!! From the 25 year old to the 81 year old we were so upset!! To top off the night- what we believe- were the owners did even apologize or try to make it better- they literally said they saw our faces of disappointment- and still would not even say sorry or thank you for coming!!! My 80 year old mom was so upset for us all she went up and complained and they still did not even say sorry for the horrific night!!! Very disappointing for the price, area and history!!! An Unforgettable Night -- 25 Out of 25 Requests!…read more I've been to many dueling piano bars, including Bobby McKey's near Washington, DC, and John King delivered one of the most entertaining evenings I've ever experienced. The musicians were outstanding. Dave, Katherine, and Denise were talented, funny, engaging, and incredibly accommodating. They made the audience part of the show, with great music, playful banter, and plenty of singing and dancing. I submitted 25 song requests throughout the evening, ranging from Bobby Darin and Tom Jones to Elton John, Toto, and ABBA. They played 24 of them during the show! I even got to play cowbell during "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." But what happened afterward made the evening truly unforgettable. When I thanked Dave and mentioned that they'd played 24 of my 25 requests, he asked which one they'd missed. I told him "Dancing Queen." Although the show had already ended and the equipment was shut down, Dave announced what had happened and played that final song just for me! 25 out of 25 requests. A perfect evening! I also discovered that Dave knows Kaela from Bobby McKey's, and she'd told him I was coming. What a wonderful connection! For $125, I couldn't have asked for better entertainment. The musicians went above and beyond, and I'll certainly be returning. Five stars without hesitation!

They offer complimentary valet parking, so there is no need for us to search for on-street parking in downtown Charleston. We walked over to the Thoroughbred Lounge and were greeted by the hostess, who led us to our table. We absolutely loved the interior design, which is vintage and elegant. The staff was so kind and personable, and they knew right away that we were celebrating a special occasion. Our server walked us through the menu in a way that was digestible and easy to follow. There were even different vials of tea leaves to smell and browse through before deciding. Since there were two of us, we were able to order two different flavors, and we chose the Earl Grey and the Coconut. Our personal favorite was the Coconut. We really wanted the Earl Grey to be our favorite, since the aroma of the tea leaves was wonderful, but the tea itself came out bitter and required sugar and cream to enjoy. I will note that we made the mistake of swirling the Earl Gray teapot so that may have contributed to how it turned out. And then came the tower of savories, pastries, and decadent desserts, and we were completely blown away. Everything was perfect, the taste and texture. It was such a thoughtful touch that they included a "Congratulations" chocolate bar at the top to commemorate the occasion. To top it all off, the staff offered to take photos of us in the middle of the Charleston Place with the stunning floral arrangements and chandeliers in the background, and the pictures came out beautifully. I am so glad we finally came, and I truly hope Thoroughbred Lounge never changes or closes.
