On my first ride after I picked the bike up, the brake lines were full of air, enough so that my front brake was not really functional. When I brought it back to the shop, I also mentioned that the chain was skipping off the cogs under load in the higher gears. They took care of the brake problem, but I literally had to go back three times before they warrantied the cassette, which fixed the problem. They just kept adjusting the derailleur. I don't think they test rode it because they would call me and tell me it was fixed. I finally had them go out the back of the shop with me and ride along with me to show them how it skipped. The other issue was the bike started shutting off (it's an E bike) when I would hit rough sections on the trail. I had to take it back multiple times before they finally warrantied the battery and mounts. Each time I took it in they would call me and tell me it was fixed. I would go to start a ride and within a very short period the bike would shut down again. I get that this is a problem with the bike manufacturer and not the service department, but a quick search on Reddit revealed that this was a known problem and a warranty issue. It shouldn't have taken multiple visits and so much time with the bike in the shop to get it corrected. Most recently, I took it in to have the brake lines bled, and when I picked it up, one of the mechanics told me that the back brake was making noise. The service manager said that couldn't be anything they did they just bleed the brakes. However, when I got home, it sounded like a bagpipe every time I hit the brakes and it certainly didn't do that before I took it in. I think the brake pads got contaminated with brake fluid. Also, the retaining clips that keep the pin holding the brake pads from falling off were missing from both brake calipers. I called and spoke to the service manager. He told me that the clips aren't really necessary as long as you keep things tight. I asked if they had them in the shop and if I could come get them and he said he wasn't sure what part I was talking about and he would have to look at them. At that point, I just ordered a new brake pads and clips on Amazon and I'm done with this shop.

He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cared about making sure we found the right fit. The kids' trade-in program was such a fantastic idea and made upgrading to a new bike so much easier. From the friendly service to the thoughtful programs, Alameda Bicycle truly sets the standard for what a local bike shop should be. Very disappointing experience…read more I brought my bike in for a simple flat-tire repair and was told it would be ready within 24 hours. Near the end of the following day, I contacted the shop to see when I could pick it up, only to be told they didn't have the correct tube and that the repair could now take another 2-8 days. That's a pretty significant difference from the 24-hour turnaround I was quoted. If the shop didn't have the necessary tube in stock, I would have expected them to tell me that when I dropped the bike off--or at least contact me when they discovered the problem. I was really hoping to find a good local bike shop on the island where I could bring my bike for routine repairs and maintenance. Unfortunately, this experience has me looking elsewhere. A simple flat repair shouldn't turn into a week-long wait, especially when I was originally promised 24 hours.

Inspired by vapor wave, we landed on a Sailor Moon palette of deep purple, magenta, and white (with a few gold accents). The pin stripe around the lugging is really clean. Excellent work! She's a beauty now. Rick talked me out of an additional blue color block and I think it turned out really great. He painted most of Tom Ritchey's frames from the 70s and 80, and Gary Fishers, and thousands of other mid-to-high end frames. He knows his craft and does a great job. He's painted frames for me, at least fifty frames for my business (Rivendell), and his work is spectacular. I sympathize with the reviewer who had decal-obtaining problems, but decals don't come easy, especially custom ones, and Rick isn't going to scold his long-time sources for being late. Everybody in the loop has a story and a reason, and sometimes you have to dig deep and wait till your number is called. I've never known Rick to be rude, and I know him well enough, and have known him long enough (40+ years) to say that it's more likely that the customer misinterpreted Rick. I have never seen him talk meanly about anybody or any customer. I am not denying the one-starers their experience of feelings, I'm just saying what's been my experience. Also--one final thing: When we have a rush job, or something we really want fast, he tells us we have to wait our turn, too. He values his regular customers and doesn't give cuts to us, and that's a good quality, too.

Pains my heart to give any 1 star review for small businesses…read more But I ordered a Veloric folding bike on 3/17 so I can reduce use of my car. Especially with gas prices. I also live in Walnut Creek and decided to go with a more "local" (used to live in Alameda) shop. Originally I was going to go for an Letric bike, but got convinced to go for the Veloric. So Vivee was nice enough to let me test ride one that was in the shop for service and I decided to buy one, but they didn't have any in stock. She asked if I can use Zelle and I wanted to use card, but she said she would face a 3.5% fee. Ok sure. We also bonded over tennis as well since my brother played and her kids play it and she was a hitting partner, which we found funny. We go over the options on what the bike looks like, what options I wanted and add-ons. I got a date of mid-April, probably more on the early end for me to pick up including assembly and shipping. Veloric would take 3-10 days to ship (from their site for direct to consumer) and then it would take time to assemble. So I presumed, ok, maybe it's quick and coming early. I'll call! I text Vivee on March 20 and she said she would check Monday when she got back. I didn't see a response. So I text back on Monday to check. No response. I call the shop (no response). I text again (no response). It's now 4/7 and yes I called and left a message on the phone and text. So the lack of response + Zelle payment + reviews I didn't read up here = panic. I decided to go and call Veloric to see what's happening. Veloric told me to try to work it out and confirmed there was a fold 1 that was delivered, but they couldn't confirm this was mine. Vivee did eventually answer the phone on 4/9, but said she was waiting on the shipment and said that she ordered a pallet and blamed the tariffs for the delay. So I decide to go in 4/23 when my bike was supposed to be there, but it turns out it wasn't. She told me she was ordering a pallet and she would install my bike first. She also said it was difficult to talk to Veloric's customer service team since there were trade shows. Turns out she lied. I had been in contact with Veloric's customer service team since March because I read some of the reviews and there was a Reddit post on them buying a bike there with a few other horror stories on people getting repairs and either never getting them done and having to pay upfront. Veloric told me they had not gotten an order from Westside Joe's since March 16 and I had come in on March 17 to order my bike. I truly wanted to support a woman owned minority business in my hometown of Alameda. But unfortunately, they are unable to be transparent on ETAs to the point where the manufacturer had to check for me and now I have to dispute with my bank. I've also posted my story to Alameda Peeps, and it looks like there are more horror stories. Moral of the story: It's great to shop local, but please be careful on who you chose to do business with.

I'm updating my previous review because Abraham Baiza went above and beyond to make things right…read more During my first two stringing experiences, I unfortunately ran into quality issues, including one racquet that was missing a string. It was definitely frustrating, but Abraham took my concerns seriously from the beginning. He personally reached out, apologized, offered to restring my racquet free of charge, and even provided a gift card for the inconvenience. What impressed me the most was that he didn't just fix my racquet--he worked to improve the process. When I picked it up today, I noticed they now attach a label showing the string type, tension, date, and stringer. That tells me they're focused on preventing mistakes in the future, not just fixing one complaint. Every business can make mistakes, but not every manager takes ownership the way Abraham did. His professionalism, communication, and commitment to improving the customer experience earned my trust back. Thank you, Abraham, and the Sports Basement team. I'll definitely be back for future stringing and would recommend them to other tennis players.

Went to here a few times in the past when I still lived in San Ramon, California. This place is…read moresupposed to be like a Dick's Sporting Goods but with more variety of sports equipment and other related products. As well as better quality since it's like a private owned business and not a public one. The service overall was good at this place as the employees were helpful with guiding us to find stuff we were looking for. As well as helping my brother find a new bike for him to ride after his old one fell apart. When it comes to value that is where the problems set in as to why I am giving this place a 4/5. Lot of the stuff in this store is expensive and I do mean EXPENSIVE. It could be close to like 120 dollars for a pair of shoes which seems to be way more than most other retailers. And most of the other equipment could range up to 200-300 dollars as well which can make it frustrating to figure out what to spend your money on depending on the need. At least the store has plenty of equipment to choose from, as well as a range for you test stuff out and other useful features for equipment you want to rent. But I would only go here as a last resort if you can't go to a Dick's or find good pricing.
