I had a casual dinner with my wife at this restaurant last week. She had heard good things about it. I was not impressed. Although we had a reservation, the hostess ignored our request to sit in a small booth. Her refusal was strange. She pretended my wife was asking about the back room, which was a private room, and said, "That is private." We eventually had a table in the middle of the room. The waiter tried to be friendly and ceremonial. She did not mention anything about the bread they served. My wife ordered two appetizers for us. They were both disappointing. One was garlic bread, a big blubber of cheese on stale bread. I took off some of the blub of bread and ate it; I did not see or taste any garlic; it was some cheesy bread. Meanwhile, the waiter brought the complimentary bread and a small bowl of maybe "olive oil." The bread was stale and covered with a layer of salt. The second appetizer was artichoke leaves, so heated in hot cheese that nothing was left; it was like some mushy green thing. The spaghetti with meatballs looked good, but the sauce was watery. My wife had cavatelli with shrimp. It looked good, and she was happy with the ten shrimp. It is an overpriced cafe, given the food quality and atmosphere. read more

I ordered from them via DoorDash and everything traveled well. It was easy to reheat as needed in a toaster oven. The marg pizza was pretty good. Tasty crust, good cheese, etc. It wasn't world-shattering or anything but definitely tasty. The Sicilian arancini, though, was a letdown. I love Sicilian arancini and find that the best ones have a proper ratio of crunchy exterior to gooey interior (usually the exterior should be crunchy/firm enough to hold the arancini together). They should also have a defined core of meat, cheese, and peas. These, however, just didn't cut it. They were soft and kinda fell apart. On top of this, the bits of meat, cheese, and peas were just kinda mixed into the rice. This meant instead of getting a true stuffed arancini, you kinda end up with a mixed up rice casserole mound. So I'm always looking for a new place to try in the greater Raleigh area, not too far off the Interstate, on my way back to the beach from Greensboro! So I had actually stopped at a beer place across the street, but they did not serve food and recommended this place for Italian sandwiches! This place was in a shopping plaza and we opted to eat on the patio as it was a nice day! My husband had a beer but I was excited to see an Aperol Spritz on the menu! I did not see any sandwiches on the menu, but they did have pizza, calzones, etc! They had a lot of traditional Italian dishes, but I did not want anything too heavy for lunch! So we opted for "Cinelli's Famous" Grandma Margjerita pizza! It was so delicious! Mentioned to the waitress about folks complementing their sandwiches, but learned they had a separate lunch menu, which we did not receive since it was a Sunday! Excellent authentic Italian food. Deserts are too sweet but honestly every single thing we had was off the chain excellent. Also spotted a local Italian restaurant owner come in and look around to see volume on a Friday night, and then leave. Oh my! It was packed from about 6pm on. Veal Francaise. Mama Mia! We had read good things about this relatively new restaurant in the Hope Valley Commons Shopping Center in South Durham. They are related to two other restaurants in the Triangle area, Vivo in Raleigh and Vieni in Holly Springs. We went on a Saturday evening and were promptly seated at a high-top table for two. We ordered beverages, soup and salad, and main entrees of lasagna and baked zitti. I believe our server was the bartender since we saw her behind the bar a few times. The pasta e fagioli was delicious and filling, and we enjoyed the free bread and olive oil (although the server cleared our olive oil before we were done with the bread). Our entrees hit the spot -- Italian comfort food. Rather than completely stuff ourselves, we took home what was left of our dinners for later. The vibe is casual and relaxed, and they had sports on several TVs in the bar area. The staff was pleasant and inviting. We are sometimes hesitant to try a new restaurant,especially near a major road (NC 751) Vici is well worth a visit. I had baked ziti with meatballs (2). A huge portion. I ate about 1/3 and took the rest home. I got dinner the next night AND a small lunch the day after. All for $20.00! My wife had cavatelli with shrimp. She raved above it. The portion too was huge. I have been here multiple times. The service is great and everything was enjoyable. The calamari was nice and crisp and not too heavily breaded or fried. The star for me is the Rigatoni+vodka sauce. For the past few years, Vici Ristobar has been our favorite restaurant. This evening, my wife and I visited the restaurant with our friends. Val, the cashier, and the hostess welcomed us with a smile and led us to a nice quiet area where we could have a conversation. Our waitress, Gina, even remembered my first name from our previous visit a few weeks ago. She remembered what my wife and I had ordered last time. The Egg Plant Parmigiana and Cesar's Salad were delicious. We did not order wine but on previous occasions, we have found their wine selection also to be good. This unpretentious restaurant with excellent Italian food and outstanding service is also a good value. read more

5 ppl of our Tuesday lunch group came here for the first time at my recommendation, based solely on posted reviews. I'm glad it worked out very well for all of us. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meal and plan to revisit. Tuesday is IMO not the best day to sample what's the best a restaurant has to offer. Apparently overhearing my comment that the pancetta pieces in my Spaghetti Caronara were big, the apparent owner came to our table to apologize that they only had their backup chef on duty. But as you can see from the 5 star I'm giving them, even their backup chef wowed us all. The restaurant offers a $12 lunch special that allows you to pick two items out of: soup, sandwich, salad and some common pasta items. Out of the five of us, one tried the Chicken Parmesan and couldn't stop praising it. Two ladies tried the Strascciatella Romana soup and loved it. I sampled a sip and was able to distinguish its rich yet light taste in spite of eating an exceedingly rich plate of Spaghetti Carbonara. The other man in the group had the Eggplant Parmigiana and almost cleaned his plant. I finished my spaghetti and ate two slice of bread to mop up the extra sauce. They used pancetta (lots of it) instead of guanciale, Parmesan instead of Pecorino Romano. But for the price, I'm not complaining and am glad I didn't ingest all that fat from guanciale. What they served made me very satisfied and already worrying about my cholesterol level. The lunch menu was limited compared to the full menu posted on their website but I plan to return for dinner to indulge. read more

Been here three times now and my experience has been awesome every time. Took friends this last visit, they go to a place by them in North Raleigh that they love, but thought Vici was better. I really love the cute, comfortable atmosphere. You can go casual or for date night. I've had pasta, pizza, salad, drinks - all top notch! Service is good too. They were busy when we went (yay!) but apologetic and brought yummy warm bread. So glad we have this in South Durham. read more

The first time I dined in at this restaurant I was pleased with their service and food. However, this second time the service we were met with at the door was abrupt and rude. The hostess snapped at me for requesting a table outdoors and told us we could go stand outside by a table without the umbrella if we wanted to (which we had no problem with). Her tone was rude and conveyed her obvious annoyance. Then, once we were ordering, I requested the vodka rigatoni pasta without the pork (it was the same thing I ordered the previous time I visited) and I was told that there were no modifications to the meals. Given, there was a note at the bottom of the menu that said "no modifications", however, the last time I had come the menu was the same but that time they had no issue making the dish without the pork. I was very disappointed because the whole reason I came was for this specific pasta. Without the allowance of modifications there are no red sauce pastas on the menu that don't have meat. There is only an alfredo pasta and a mushroom pasta with white sauce. I instead ordered their bianca pizza which was decent. The crust was good and had a good amount of fresh garlic. Overall, just feel like the experience did not meet our expectations and their service has gone down since last visiting a couple months ago. I will not be returning due to their strict menu restrictions that leave very few vegetarian options. read more

This is exactly the Italian place that Durham needed. It's the perfect mix of mom and pop style, traditional Italian dishes with just a little bit of flair in a stylish atmosphere. Collectively among our group, we tried 5 different pasta dishes, 2 salads, and the fried mozzarella app, and everything was 5/5 delicious. Great cocktails and wine menu too!
