Unhygienic and honestly dangerous experience involving a blood-contamination biohazard. During my gel manicure, the technician cut the skin beside my nail deeply enough that it was bleeding heavily. She repeatedly dabbed the open cut with the same dirty rag that already had nail clippings and debris on it. I asked if we could disinfect it, but instead she rubbed lotion into the wound, pressed a warm rag with acetone against it, and then went back to using the original dirty rag. Most concerning, she intentionally painted gel over the bleeding cut on my skin and tried to put my hand under the curing light even after I told her I did not want gel over an open wound. Whether that request annoyed her or not, after that point the manicure became extremely rushed and careless. The gel brush and bottle also came into contact with my blood, which created a serious cross-contamination concern. The manicure itself is genuinely the worst-looking one I have ever received. The polish is extremely lumpy and thick, uneven in color, and does not even reach the edges of several nails. On multiple coats she only painted part of the nail instead of covering the full surface. She completely missed one finger at first and then gave it two partial coats, one on each side, leaving the center uneven. It started peeling almost immediately. When I tried to explain what had happened at the front desk, while visibly upset and in pain, I was offered a couple dollars off. I would not recommend going here for health or sanitation reasons. After seeing a polish brush come into direct contact with my blood and then go back into the bottle, I have no idea what other bottles or tools may have been contaminated in the same way.
This place was very Rude . No greeting once i walked in , once my nail tips were cut they continued to make my nails shorter. i asked if Quinn could take one nail off sense the shape had been altered and extremely shortened. it became a problem and i was asked to come back another time . while the man yelled "you have free nails" once i walked out . it was extremely disheartening given i made it clear i did not have time to come back and i haven't received a pedicure yet
I am a regular and have had the upmost, fabulous experience here for years, except on September 17, 2025. BEWARE: DO NOT TAKE OFF YOUR JEWELRY or leave it at home! I requested for a French gel tip when the nail tech (I don't have her name) suggested, "take off your bracelet for a massage" It was a huge and costly mistake but at the time I assumed she was going to give a massage where my bracelet would get in the way. I found out later, taking it off was absolutely unnecessary. Instead, I received a short 1 minute lotion rub - which is absolutely fine but there was NO reason for the nail tech to ask me to remove it in the first place. Either way, I'm kicking myself in the butt for taking it off and losing out on my anniversary diamond tennis bracelet worth thousands. Let's just say, after my nails were done I didn't clasp the hook on properly and the bracelet dropped at the salon while I was paying/handing out tips for two nail techs for the mani and pedi. I called two days straight after, and they said it wasn't there. Tip for owner: unless absolutely necessary - your employees should not request for bracelets/jewelry to be taken off. What a huge disappointment. I guess the nail tech got exactly what she wanted out of this. Here is my bracelet:
I have been a customer since July of this year... consistent quality from general staff but BEN is amazing at everything when it comes to nails. The quality of his work is great. He takes his time and checks in to make sure I like how it's turning out! The energy of the salon is nice too. They switch up the music! Clean environment and fair pricing too!
I really wish I would like this place but sadly I looked at my pedicure today after getting them done yesterday and the guy that did them did not do a very good job. You can see in the pictures that the paint was not layered on correctly and not painted over my entire toe. This is pretty disappointing. I thought I could trust their work but you can clearly see that they can't fill in properly. The fact that they did this on multiple toes is very disappointing. These definitely need to be fixed.
I've been coming to Vibrant Nails and Lashes for about a year now, and it's become my go-to spot in Berkeley. I've tried a bunch of other salons around here and in Oakland, but I keep coming back because it's affordable, super clean, and the staff are always friendly/ accommodating and talented! I usually get almond Gel-X with a French tip and a design, and every time I've walked out happy with how they turned out. I've had a different tech almost every time, and they've all been consistent with quality and attention to detail. I'll admit I'm pretty picky when it comes to my nails. I pay attention to whether the Gel-X is placed straight, if there are any bubbles, how the shape looks, and how clean/even the French tips are. If something looks off, I'll ask them to fix it, and they've always been really kind and patient about making sure I leave satisfied. They also have a huge selection of colors to choose from. I've even brought in my own shades a few times because I'm particular like that, and it's never been a problem. One tip: definitely make an appointment, since they can get busy. If you're detail-oriented like me, I think you'll love it here!
My GO TO in the Bay Area! I was never a big nails girlie because they never lasted when I'd get gel done at my local Happy Nails in SoCal, but I really wanted to feel polished during my last semester in college. After spending hours on Yelp and Reddit, I nailed down this spot as the salon that would redeem all salons in my eyes (and cuticles). I was able to take the 51B bus directly to the shop--it literally stops right at its doorstep. My appointment was scheduled for 2, but I showed up early just in case. The staff were super sweet and offered me drinks and tea, and my appointment with Kevin was right on time! At that first appointment, I got gel. I went on an impromptu 12 mile backpacking trip two days later and the nails SURVIVED! They stayed nice for three weeks even with my active lifestyle running around in the dirt and grime. I got them redone after those three weeks because my nails were starting to grow out, but the polish was still immaculate. A month later, I got my first set of acrylics for my graduation photos and ceremonies! They were almond French tips, and turned out so classy and durable. I was shocked how inexpensive and high quality the manicure / pedicure package was, especially considering that the acrylics are labor intensive. I miss living in the Bay Area and getting my nails done with Kevin, and will have to stop by when I visit next!
I've been getting my nails done for over 10 years, and this was hands down the worst experience I've ever had. For $80, I got nothing but a sloppy job. First off, my cuticles weren't even cut--apparently, they charge an extra $10 for that (but didn't bother to tell me until I complained). My thumb nail wasn't glued on properly, and they used almond-shaped Gel-X tips on all my other nails, except my thumbs, so the tech had to shape those himself. He completely butchered them. The tip and my nail didn't even align, and it looked ridiculous. On top of allll that my middle finger nail is slightly crooked. When I went back to have them fix it the glue and I quite about cuticle services, the front desk guy just shrugged and told me about the $10 up-charge for cutting cuticles. Why wasn't I told that from the start?! When I tried to tell the guy at the front desk about my poorly glued thumb nail, another customer walked up, and instead of finishing our conversation, he just abruptly stopped and helped them, leaving me standing there like I didn't matter. After the other customer paid, I showed him the messed-up thumb nail. He did re-glued it, trimmed cuticles on maybe 3 or 4 nails (not even all of them), slapped some oil on, and told me to wash my hands. When I came back, he had disappeared! No apology, no one came back to check on me, nothing. I waited for a few minutes, standing there; it was clear no one gave a damn, I just left. For $80, this place is an absolute joke. Terrible service, lazy techs, and zero customer care. Don't waste your money here--there are way better salons that actually care about doing a good job and treat customers with respect.
I am flying from LA to see Kevin every month and a half now. Save 5% if you pay cash on already fantastic prices. Hopefully they raise their pricesLOL! Kevin's work is worth far more than he charges and I'm always very pleased with how quick and efficient he is at getting me in and out of the salon. Loves it. read more

Coming from SoCal, I'm limited in the options in NorCal, but I was hopeful about this location until the end of my service. I went in for a deluxe pedicure and a dip manicure, and at first, I was greeted with a friendly face and mimosa, so it felt like home. But after my experience, I'm back on the hunt for a location to provide the services I'm looking for. After two days, my nails chipped. I hate it when you get dip nails, and they use a gel top coat to finish it. It never lasts. It was the same in OC and LA, so it's not just up here. It was pretty basic, but you definitely can't call it a manicure if you didn't do anything but barely polished my nails. And even asking for it to be cleaned under my nails was a hassle. I had three different people working on my nails to finish, and even then, it was unsatisfactory. The gel top coat also made it super thick. My pedicure was barely a pedicure. I was excited about the massage, callus remover, and paraffin wax, but the person that did my pedicure just slathered on products and left it there. And the polish is very bumpy on my toenails. I don't think it was worth the money. I can't complain, since it's still much better than the prices down south. All that was forgivable and maybe worth another shot to come back for a better experience, but after four different people working on my two services and can't seem just to do a simple clean up of my skin and under my nails, one of the ladies proceeded to speak in her native tongue to be super unprofessional and tell her coworkers that I was just trying to start shit. Little did she know, that I understood and spoke the language. Nothing irks my nerves more than getting a relaxing service but being greeted with shit-talking in a foreign language and mediocre service. So ridiculous. read more

Vibrant Nails and Lashes is the best place in town. Their staff is super friendly and their work is top notch. Kevin normally does my nails and he does a fantastic job. I've gone to several different nail salons in Berkeley and once I found this place I've never gone anywhere else. His knowledge of nail art is supreme and he does a variety of different designs. Update on first set: Several of the stones on the first set fell out, some within the first 3 days, but they fixed it for free each time. The third time I went to get replacements, I asked them to put the top coat over the stones. After that, most of them lasted 3 full weeks with the exception of a couple that fell off after 2-2.5 weeks. Second set: I came back after a little over 3 weeks because my nails grew out a lot, the polish was coming off, and one of my nails got a couple cracks on the nail bed (my fault when I was opening a cabinet). They fixed my nail with dip powder did a new set. The blue is super pretty! read more

Definitely recommend, especially for UC Berkeley students because it's so close to dorms + campus since the 51b bus takes you right in front of it. Quality of my full-set acrylics was great. The store itself is very clean and sanitary on the inside. Only downside is that they don't have all colors displayed in their book-demo thing (but it isn't a big deal). read more

Great salon. I have very short, bitten nails that need a lot of TLC. Recently, I decided to try a full set of acrylics to help me stop biting them and so far, it's been working! I've been getting french tips in different colors and it makes my hands look so much more feminine and professional, while still looking natural. The nail tech has even helped me figure out how to adjust the acrylics to my lifestyle. Earlier today, we shortened them a bit so I can still play guitar ( it worked :-] ) The staff is great. They greet everyone who walks in and keep the shop looking clean and beautiful. They even offer water, tea, or a mimosa. Definitely my favorite nail salon in the bay, considering quality, location, staff, and price. If you're looking for a salon in Berkeley, I would definitely recommend this spot. read more

I've been getting my nails done by Kevin for some years now and he never disappoints! Any nail inspo I show him, he's able to either replicate it or tailor it to my liking. Shape & thickness is always perfect and Kevin is extremely detail oriented. I love his attention to detail for each individual nail design. Overall, the salon is beautiful. They did a remodel a few months ago. Staff is nice and they even offer beverages to ensure you receive the best customer experience. I highly recommend their salon and I would never even think about cheating on my nail tech and going anywhere else. read more

Got my lashes done here on friday and got a pink eye. the flumes from the lash glue was burning my eyes. Don't believe the lash lady when she said the glue was for sensitive eyes. I get my lashes done often enough to know that is not normal. She should've used a different glue after I have informed her about my eyes tearing up. Only putting this out there because our lash techs should be informed that certain glues have more flumes which can cause inflammation in the eye. My eyes are still watery after this session. I hope she changes her glue supplies and ensure it is not expired and uphold cleanliness and sanitation of the salon. read more

I came here about a week ago and my nails have all already fully chipped. One of them even started to fall off and I'm super disappointed. They do your nails good at first but it doesn't last long as my nails began to chip after 2 days. As you can see in the photo, The chrome i had before is barely there anymore and its patchy and ugly. I don't usually get my nails done so it's pretty rare when I do (usually special occasions). I always pass by this place on my runs and decided to give it a try after looking on Yelp. TLDR: Affordable prices, street parking I walked in on a Monday morning and didn't have to wait! My acrylic set took about 1 hour 10 minutes. My nail tech was really attentive to getting the dead skin around the sides which I appreciate, but multiple times it would hurt and also had the sides bleed a little bit twice. I know this happens at nail salons especially for nail acrylics, but it seemed to ring an alarm for me more this time compared to the several times I've gotten my nails done before. Still a 4 star review because $50 for acrylics in Berkeley is reasonable (I have paid $70-80 before) and I did appreciate her good intent of trying to clean out all the sides of my nails for me. I really like the outcome (I showed her a pic before) and glad she was able to sculpt it so naturally + at a perfect length just like I asked and wanted! read more

The nail is crooked. They noticed but didn't do anything.. I'm going to assume it's because it was going to take more time.. The Man doing my manicure was nice and it wasn't until the end when the woman came to color my nails that the gossiping started. They made fun of my nails and the length of them and how much time it was taking. I felt judged and uncomfortable. I've been to a couple of nail spots in the area, and Vibrant is definitely the best one that I've been to so far! My friend and I made an appointment the day of on a Friday and they were extremely accommodating and told us to come back an hour later. I looked through some of their colors to see if there was anything I would like and I decided to go with a sparkly design done with a magnet on Gel-x extensions. They were really quick, the process took about an hour and fifteen minutes. It was also fairly affordable compared to other places! They charged me $65 for the set, not including tip. read more

I tried this place out based on a friends recommendation, but wouldn't go back. Probably one of the worst pedicure and manicures I've gotten in a long time. I got them done yesterday and noticed when I showered that my nails aren't even fully painted? Not painted to the edges and that's my biggest pet peeve. See pictures... disappointed. read more

They had the perfect gel and color that I was looking for when I came for a walk-in manicure. They sat me immediately and offered me something to drink-water or mimosa! The woman who worked on my nails seemed in such a rush, I was in and out within 30 minutes. Gel was applied unevenly, some nails are a lot thicker than others, when I left I noticed there was cured gel on my fingers and had to pick it off. I asked for just an ombré from my natural nail color to the pink color I chose but it didn't come out too well-she mostly just applied the pink on the tips of my nails without blending. I definitely want to try this salon again!! I really do hope next time they take their time with my nails because I liked their gel color selection and the shop is super pretty inside. read more
