This is a beautiful space with great energy but still relaxing and/or a place that you could do some studying or work like several people were doing even on the Sunday we visited. Menu selections are vast. Coffee was excellent tasting and strong. Service was fantastic, answering questions and giving suggestions. We got coffee as well as muffins (get the blueberry) and I also opted for the ooey gooey grill cheese sandwich. I will say that was good but not excellent. Was it a grill cheese...yes. it was a good size and hit the spot, but not special or flavorful like most coffee places opt for with their versions. Finally - a spacious coffee shop that has decent hours! The ambiance here is nice, lots of room to sit, a versatile menu, and cute merch items. All the employees are friendly, you can order right at the front when you walk in. Seating also extends further to the back of the building. I've had their energy drinks here and those are good. I stopped here twice on a recent road trip; once on the way out and also on the return trip. It was quite convenient getting on and off the interstate while taking I-235 through downtown DM. My first time I had an iced Vanilla Latte and 4 days later I indulged with a mocha frappe; my wife had a cup of drip each visit. All the beverages were good as was the service. I ordered a candy bar latte which was decent but a little high-priced in my opinion. I decided to grab a California BLT for lunch and did not end up eating it because it was not good. I absolutely love this place! The inside is nice and cool, and the seating is a place for a quick sit down and talk. The menu is filled with a lot of varieties of food and energy drinks. They have a discount on students order their energy drinks and my boyfriend absolutely loves that. Their espresso drink options are good and their chai is so creamy! Probably one of the best Chai lattes to get in Iowa. They have a sit down area outside in the little cute ally-way and some coloring pages to color with. I also didn't notice this at first, but you may also order outside in the front of you're on the go. It's such refreshing part of this cafe. The coffee was burnt, and the Cobb salad consisted of five ingredients: * Iceberg lettuce (20% ratio) * Seasoned walnuts (20% ratio) * Cranberries (20% ratio) * Sweet potatoes (20% ratio) * Feta (20% ratio) I'm a big fan of all those ingredients, but not at an equal ratio to one another. My first thought when I opened the packaging was, 'How can they possibly afford to put so many walnuts on a salad?' After that, the food was generally low quality. The salad was going bad, the sweet potatoes were not cooked enough, and you could tell they had been sitting for a while. I don't blame the kids working there, but you can tell that the management of this place is non-existent. *Update* It has been a couple of hours and I'm still mad about how bad that salad was. read more

I tried this place because Daisy Chain wasn't open yet. It's called vibrant coffee shop but it's all black inside with no art or anything vibrant going on. Right when you walk in they are selling merch and it's nothing special. I ordered an iced lavender honey soy latte and it wasn't very good, not sure if it was the coffee or the soy milk. They offer no vegan food options. One vegetarian item is avocado toast. Their menu is not marked with any dietary labeling so I had to ask. The staff was nice. I recommend going somewhere else. It's owned by a credit union, there's better local coffee shops to support. read more

Baristas consisted of young girls who look like they should be running a lemonade stand instead of a coffee house. I asked if I could get my mocha in a mug instead of a to-go cup and the girl looked at me confused and told me the mugs are for black coffee only. I said, "You're kidding me, right?". She then stepped away to ask another girl who furrowed her brow and thought about it and reluctantly approved the request. Twenty minutes later, I got my lackluster mocha in a mug (no saucer underneath it). My friend order a simple black coffee and it took him over 20 minutes to get it. I had to ask the girls why he hasn't received his black coffee after all that time- they looked at me blankly and unapologetically turned to pour his cup of coffee into a to-go cup. So much for mugs are for black coffee only. Why does it take over 20 minutes to pour a cup of coffee and why are they that clueless that they can't offer an apology? We finally went to sit down - unfortunately the prime spots along the front windows are all taken up by tacky merchandise racks! Whomever is managing this coffeehouse, PLEASE research what it means to be a coffeehouse and make necessary changes immediately! What a sad experience! read more

Beautiful locally owned coffee spot in the east village. With lots of area for people to sit and enjoy a drink or food item. Staff was welcoming and nice. I ordered a large iced peppermint oat milk mocha and it was divine. It had peppermint crumbled at the top with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. Pure holiday caffeine perfection. My husband ordered a warm large Turtle mocha latte and he loved it also. My kid even enjoyed the whipped topping goodness of my drink. Definitely a new favorite coffee spot for me! Seating: high tops, low tops, couches, big patio, outdoor alleyway area, and booths (which is so nice when you're sitting working for hours, makes it so much more comfortable: other coffee shops take note) Ordering: you walk up to the counter and order and they have really nice and big and clear easy to read digital menus above the counter. Food/drink: they have a variety of pastries, cookies, desserts, pies, warm lunch food that you can order, coffee, and even energy drinks. The cookie and coffee I got was really good! Atmosphere: I'm obsessed with this place! It's such a cool space very coffee shop and vibey and cozy. The variety of seating is awesome and the little upstairs nook area separates the space a bit and gives it so much character. Even the bathrooms were super nice and fun and really well done. maybe it's the marketer in me, but I genuinely thought this was some sort of chain (meaning that as a compliment) because all of the branding and merch upfront, and signage and table tents, etc were so well done and polished. Come to find out it's two dudes and only one other location in Moline, Illinois. The patio alleyway area is beyond cute and adorable, and almost doesn't even feel like Des Moines! Stopped here on a Sunday morning before 8am--it was one of the only places open early on a Sunday! Cute place - bought some handmade earrings and IA-made perfume. I love that they sell local merchandise. We both got the honey vanilla latte - they were good! Smooth, no bitterness. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because the barista got my order wrong. She was apologetic, and I had time to wait for her to redo it, but the total time to make the drinks was probably 10 minutes. However, the quality of the espresso did not meet my expectations (nor my non-picky friend). My observation was that if the 2 baristas behind the counter were less focused on tbejr inside jokes and more focused on making the drinks - the # of people waiting never would have turned into a crowd.
