    Samosas, summer cold brew
    Katlyn M.

What a sweet spot! Partner and I stopped in for coffee and breakfast. Staff was nice and eager to tell us about the menu for being our first time. The breakfast sandwiches were hot and delish. The samosas were crispy hot and nicely spiced. The coffee had cardamom and oat milk. There was a little "no shoes" floor pillow area to sit that was super cute.

We stopped in around 10am on a Saturday morning and the person behind the counter explained the menu, offered recommendations, and was super patient with us newbies. I opted for the masala cold brew and the Gourmet Clucker to eat. We also split the Samosas and they were very tasty and warm when they came out! After just a few minutes, I had both items in hand and sat down at a table. There are plenty of seating options and even an area in the front to take off your shoes and sit at a table on floor cushions which is a great option! The cold brew was very tasty! I liked the caramel drizzle and the spice from the masala was excellent. It actually reminded me of autumn in flavoring which I personally really loved. The Gourmet Clucker was delicious and hearty. It's chicken sausage, egg, gouda, served on a brioche bun. Again, well seasoned, hot when it came out, and the bun was pillowy! We sat for awhile and played a board game while people came in droves! This was a great place to come and ease into the day. Highly recommend!

Curry chicken puff with curry dipping sauce and Mexican Mocha

Just stopped by Mayalu coffee for the first time today. The Mexican Mocha had just the perfect amount of sweetness to it and the curry puff was handmade right there in house and oh so delicious! I will definitely be back for the blackberry white mocha and to try some other food or maybe the chicken curry puff again cause it was just that good! Service was super fast and the employees were super kind and helpful. The seating area is cute and has comfortable seating. They even have a drive through if you need something quickly on the go and don't want to get out of your car. So when you're on the way to pick someone up the airport you can totally pick them up a welcome to Des Moines treat. Come see this hidden gem!

I love being able to recommend a newer business! Mayalu Coffee was amazing, not just for their coffee, but for their welcoming environment and great service. The environment is quiet and comfortable. I was able to complete some work (on some quick wifi!) while I enjoyed a killer playlist and delicious coffee. Top-notch and a definite do-again. I ordered the Pump KTM -- it was so refreshing and different! It's great to see a local coffee shop like Mayalu! They bring the caffeine, kindness, and diversity. Love to see it.

    Oat Milk Spiced Latte

If you are close to the Des Moines Airport, you have GOT to stop in at Mayalu Coffee! Ditch Starbucks and stop in for a coffee and quick bite to eat. I ordered the Oat Milk Spice Latte. It has tasty notes of saffron & honey! I also ordered the Samoich, a flattened samosa sandwich w/fresh mozzarella & spinach. I wasn't sure what to expect, but what a delicious combo of a warm moist bun, gooey cheese, and the savory taste of a samosa! Highly recommend!!! The inside of the store is so cute! There's a cute little seating section if you want to sit on pillows on the floor! The smell in here is incredible!

My son lik3d his empanadas. My mom and I picked some tapas, and they were both good. However we were really disappointed by the tiniest tiniest little charcuterie. 30 bucks, and it said served 4 for snacking? There was a huge bag of random crackers that was a larger serving than the actual charcuterie. We were so peeved about this! The quality of the other food we ordered was great but definitely skip the charcuterie. And don't bank on more than 2 bites of food per person or everyone will be hungry and you'll end up eating costco corn dip and chips like us!

Other than the crowd caused by the Summer Stir though, we found this place to be quite unique and ended up staying for a bite to eat and a cookie. We saw a large pan of paella cooking outside on the sidewalk and saw the signs that Friday is their Summer Paella Night. Given how much we like paella, we ordered a serving. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture, but it was served in a cardboard box for carryout and tasted very good. I should point out that other orders in the restaurant were served on nice plates with silverware so the cardboard seemed unique to the paella and to go. After seeing the cookies in the display case by the front door, I couldn't leave without trying at least one of them. I ended up ordering an Espresso Chocolate Chip Cookie (see picture) and shared it with my wife. I'm a sucker for sweets...and when you combine espresso, chocolate and sea salt sprinkled on the top - you can't go wrong. It is delicious and I highly recommend that you stop by and try one yourself! If you found this review helpful, please show your appreciation with a Like or a Follow. We made it a surprise and they squealed with delight when we parked in front of it. The inside is done nicely and is clean. My daughter loved the sparkly counter (as do I). It's easy to view the variety of doughs in the case. The only challenge was some of the flavors of the month had the names rubbed off some. But no worries, they were there to help tell us what each was. We got the 6 scoops option to share. We let the kids pick two each and then my husband and I picked the last two. It's no surprise the Cookie Monster disappeared first as our son's favorite color is blue (and he chose that one). Flutternutter was also gone quickly. Cake batter was gone next as who can resist sprinkles? I really enjoyed the PB Cheesecake one too. This is such a fun place to treat yourself, or others. We'll continue to come back.

I was bummed to find out the cherry is seasonal as it is easily the best tasting of the bunch! Some other available flavors were cookies and cream, cake batter, brownie, Brookie, traditional, and red velvet. For my husband, I bought two scoops- one of cherry and one of brownie. I ended up loving the cherry so much I traded my flight for it! The customer service was great, and the interior clean. I will definitely be returning to the shop for more (especially of the cherry before it's gone!!)
