Northern Vessel on Keosauqua Way is worth a stop. They pour Onyx Coffee Lab beans -- Geometry and Monarch on the shelf -- and it shows in the cup. Onyx is one of the best roasters in the country and it's a real commitment for a shop to build around them. The iced drinks come sealed in clear cans, machine-lidded at the bar. It's a genuinely different presentation, it doesn't sweat through, and it holds up if you're walking around with it. I had the cold brew and the matcha -- both clean and not over-sweetened. The space is sharp: marble counter, black cabinetry, warm wood, good light in the morning. Staff were friendly and happy to talk through the menu without being precious about it. Bomb. Period. Was on Reddit looking for coffee, someone recommended Northern Vessel and got obliterated with downvotes. I guess there are some political differences and rumors. I don't really know. All I do know, is that all four visits were exceptional. They use Onyx Coffee (my favorite) Don't be scared off by the crowds. The line was long and moved quickly. The barista quickly recognized me and remembered my name after my first visit. And the coffee blew my mind. Over our visits we had an espresso, a drip, a Spanish latte, a New Orleans, a Cheerio and the specialty mocha. Loved them all. The space is gorgeous. Bright, clean with lots of big windows for natural light. Minimalist-the coffee speaks for itself. I really don't have words to describe this place. Way too nice staff who care about coffee, clean lobby and seating area, insanely good coffee. I suppose the only thing I can think is not ideal is smaller seating situation but other than that this place is a top 5 coffee shop I've ever been to. They handeled my party of 29 in less than 15 minutes while filtering other customers inbetween us. Great system, great coffee, great baristas. 10/10 place! read more

This is Johnston-raised TJ Rude's place, and he is a gem. He and business partner Alex Prins are terrific people, and their North Star is evident at all times. They hire well, and it's a great place to visit. Whole experience was great. Drinks are super good( have tried the peppermint mocha and Spanish coffee) I didn't see a seasonal drink menu anywhere but you can ask them what they're offering. The staff is super kind and helpful. They seem like really solid people and like they're happy to be there. Ambiance was really good too... First off, I really love the inside of this cafe! The lighting is natural and the space is pretty big, along with interesting seating options. The place is very popular with lots of people coming in, and the staff are very chill and seem to enjoy what they do there. The options for what they have are you standard espresso drinks, but they also have other refreshing drinks such as the strawberry matcha that they were having. I was with a friend and I did get the hot strawberry matcha and my friend got the ice chai latte. Both were good, however I would say that the price is much more than what I expected when I received my drink, as it was smaller than what I expected when I paid $6. The drink itself was good, but the price in relativity to the size really dragged me down a bit. That rarely happens at coffee shops now a days so that was a fresh of breath air.
