I kept hearing the hype and that Northern Vessel was a must try spot in Des Moines, but I figured it would just be a standard coffee shop. Obviously was proven wrong and have joined the Northern Vessel ship. I LOVED my Cheerio Latte and came back to try the beloved Cold Brew Latte and am obsessed. My dad also loved his strawberry lemonade!! It is fairly small in there so couldn't get to a table in time but love their seating options for a casual catch up (rather than coffee shop working) and can't wait to come back! read more

One of the best matchas I have had! Was in town in visiting and TJ and his team were tried a couple different mixes for me. I do wish they had some couches or some lounge chairs, but the seating in the side room was still great. read more

Nice coffee shop in downtown Des Moines. Great vibes -- with interesting options for seating. Cheerio latte was excellent. Perfectly balanced with cinnamon and honey. Wasn't overly sweet but true to taste. Service was friendly and helpful, only complaint would be a lack of options for sizes. Lattes are just one size. I got some cold brew latte with oat milk to go. Whole experience was great. Drinks are super good( have tried the peppermint mocha and Spanish coffee) I didn't see a seasonal drink menu anywhere but you can ask them what they're offering. The staff is super kind and helpful. They seem like really solid people and like they're happy to be there. Ambiance was really good too... Lots of natural light and good playlists to where I feel like I could focus on my work well. Only thing to note is that it's not the biggest place and can get full pretty quickly read more

First off, I really love the inside of this cafe! The lighting is natural and the space is pretty big, along with interesting seating options. The place is very popular with lots of people coming in, and the staff are very chill and seem to enjoy what they do there. The options for what they have are you standard espresso drinks, but they also have other refreshing drinks such as the strawberry matcha that they were having. I was with a friend and I did get the hot strawberry matcha and my friend got the ice chai latte. Both were good, however I would say that the price is much more than what I expected when I received my drink, as it was smaller than what I expected when I paid $6. The drink itself was good, but the price in relativity to the size really dragged me down a bit. Visited Des Moines for a work trip and was so happy to stumble upon this coffee shop. The staff were super friendly. As well, the Oat Milk Cold Brew Latte was delicious. I've heard so much about this place back when they were just a pop up. I'm sure they're already a local favorite in Des Moines. The location itself is easy to find, and so far have had an easy time with street parking. My recommendation that I've been getting pretty much every time I've been there, is their cheerio latte. It's delicious. Cinnamon-y, sweet and definitely my favorite. I know my friends love their Spanish latte, so that is also a fan favorite. The morning light hits so well here so I've enjoyed my visits here so far! My friends also enjoy their house coffee so I might ask to see if I can get a bag of it as a gift for them lol Additionally to coffee, they have some items to snack on and merch. The moment I heard about this place I had to try it. Came in after my workout and as soon as I walked in I was greeted with a friendly hello. That rarely happens at coffee shops now a days so that was a fresh of breath air. I told them I was looking for something iced and they recommended their signature oatmilk iced latte which convinced me right away because I am a big fan of oatmilk. The iced oatmilk latte was a beautiful blend of creamy, honey sweet, and smooth coffee. It's my new favorite in town. The place is very spacious and great for anyone looking to get work done or meet up with friends. Definitely will be coming back to grab their signature iced latte and try out others. I honestly don't think any other local coffee shop touches the coffee they have.. The staff is all Iowa nice but with a LA vibe which I think brings a cool aspect, the Coffee shop its self is really cool and very zen. The Barista was a tad racist, but it was an excellent coffee with perfect presentation (if you don't get it to-go). The sitting area is pretty lovely, with fantastic decor. The barista called three white-sounding names with no issue, but instead of just saying "Amir," which I spelled for him, he decided to say "one cortado and one cold brew order." read more

This place is so good!! Has many unique and delicious drink options. I got the Mexican chai latte with a shot of espresso and it was so good! Definitely coming back for matcha and other specialties. Parking is a little tricky, but does have free street parking. Also limited seating. Looks like a bright enjoyable environment to work in if your lucky enough to get a seat. All seating was full at 9 am on a Saturday when I arrived, so plan accordingly. read more

We walked here from the HyVee Hall. It was an easy walk and so glad we did! We tried the Spanish Latte (hot) and Coastline cold brew. My friends said the Spanish latte was "delightful". It was busy on a Saturday morning but service was friendly and quick! They also had donuts which seemed fresh - not sure if they're made in-house or partner with a local bakery but the old fashioned was perfect. This is my friend's favorite coffee place - I think my first time having their coffee was at the Farmers Market & was INCREDIBLE - so delicious & immedietly in love. Everyone was walking around with their cups & I had to see what the hype was about - I needed like 4 more. That's my only regret. i'm visiting from out of town & decided to swing by northern vessel for a matcha. they had a couple different syrups available which was exciting to me, & i ordered an iced strawberry matcha. unfortunately, i watched the barista squeeze my matcha out of a bottle into the pitcher. so, they don't make their matcha drinks fresh to order. which, if you love matcha, you know that can really mess up the quality of taste. it looked to me like they batch all of their matcha in a huge container. i totally understand this can help with rushes & convenience, but i always prefer a freshly made matcha beverage! the strawberry flavor was pretty faint & had an odd chemical taste to it. i definitely wouldn't order it again. i've had their coffee in the past! i'd recommend sticking to an espresso beverage if you check this place out. read more

Unfortunately, the gingerbread waffle we tried was practically inedible, wayyyy too spiced, to the point it tasted medicinal. The pomegranate seeds on top, which looked pretty at first, were actually soft and mushy, clearly not fresh. That said, I'm still willing to come back for another smoothie, because those were really good.
