Confident review from me now. 7th visit was THE visit. Over the last 7 years I didn't feel I could give a good review. I was not pleased with my drinks in the past but the last three visits have been consistently pleasant. I've been ordering the cold brew with oat milk and flavor. Coffee is smooth. The cold brew today was a good flavor. But the first two times were a little watery. Grande size was $5.89 Customer service has been very nice and attentive. I've appreciated how they understood my lactose intolerance and accommodated. I did try a smoothie last year and it was very nice. Dairy free and very tasty. This location on 22nd St got a remodel and it is cute inside and out! Shop is very small and seats about 14-16 inside. Outdoor seating in quaint and seats 18-22 comfortably. I love the trellis and lights. So many merch options. Saw the wall of loose leaf tea. Coffee and tea is for sale in bulk!! Overall it has been pleasant to grab a coffee and relax there. Looking for a new place to find coffee and I was surprised when I saw Friedrichs Coffee pop up on my maps. Going into the cafe, the interior was very simple and cute with enough tables to fit a group of people. Towards the back is an area to get your coffee beans which is nice to know for those who want a local supplier. The baristas were kind to tell me what they have for their daily drinks and served my order in a timely manner. Looking at their menu, they serve more specialty drinks than they do traditional making it feel more unique in what you'd want to get. However, I do wish they'd add traditional choices to their menu. Overall the drinks that I got were good for the most part and if I'm around the area again I'd come back to order and sit in. They also have an outside area for those who want to enjoy their coffee in the open environment. What a nice little find. :) read more

Vibe- Nice coffee shop in West Des Moines, IA! Looks like a good spot to study, get work done, or just hang out with friends! They sell coffee (of course) and they also have some bites to eat as well. They have a lot of different coffee blends in shop for sell too. Customer service- Great! I love how they have illustrations of the whole staff on the wall, I love how they have bulk beans to buy and I love how there is great indoor and outdoor seating! It just says "COFFEE" on the sign above the door until you get closer and see the window...and also the mini van with the adverts parked in the lot, haha. The barista had a great attitude right from the start, was super friendly, helpful and, completely unprompted, explained their menu and where to look for things. She also answered a few questions I had about their loose leaf teas. I ended up getting a lavender E.G. and it is aromatic and earthy and awesome. read more

I'm new to the world of coffee, so when a barista recommends an Almond Joy mocha with chocolate drizzle and coconut syrup, you won't find me shying away from the firsthand recommendation. Bring it on. The exterior of Freiderich's could use some love - I suppose a massive sign that reads "Coffee" gets the point across. Luckily, there is more charm on the interior. Local newspapers scattered about in a lounge chair seating area, free WIFI (which I couldn't seem to get to work on my computer), rows upon rows of coffee beans for grinding and warm lighting over a handful of tables. For those who prefer to work at a counter setting, there are four to five spots overlooking the parking lot. Back to the Almond Joy bebida - moto delicioso! Because everything tastes better with honey, I added a teaspoon...or two to my already sugar-loaded cup. The baristas were super friendly and happily played along with my lack of coffee knowledge. (Thank you!) I look forward to visiting again and trying some of the local sweet treats in the case (covered graham crackers, rice crispies and all sorts of other sinful eats). read more

I ordered a turtle mocha latte and my husband said to get him something with no chocolate. I asked the girl taking my order what she recommends for someone who said no chocolate so she said that she likes the caramel latte so that's what I got. My husband loved it. I went in to this location today with my dad just to grab an after lunch coffee. At first glance everything was great! It was clean, inviting, and they immediately greeted us as we entered. I was looking around at the menu while my dad ordered, and the lady at the counter asked if 2percent milk would be okay? My dad drinks his coffee with half and half or cream so he asked for that. She said they could do it for an upcharge... okay, so you live in the Midwest where cream is literally the cheapest, but it's an up charge, got it. So I asked about the drip coffees. She responded very nicely. But then I saw they had a maple latte with a maple flavored syrup. So I like my coffee strong, but I don't like any cream or milk... plus who doesn't love maple flavoring. So I asked for the drip coffee (black), and add a shot of espresso, then add a little of the maple syrup flavoring. She looked at me like I had six heads. She said they couldn't do that but could make me two coffees and then said, "do you understand?" I just ordered the late which I didn't drink but a few sips of it because I hate cream. And tipped them a dollar. How can you not make a simple coffee and espresso shot and add one of the 20 syrup flavorings you have behind you???? They either checked out that day or honestly didn't care... Either way, enjoy your dollar tip because your coffee wasn't worth it. read more

Visited here after the recent renovation. As usual coffee & staff were great! But a bit disappointed in what was done over the last few months. Place feels colder, less warm & cozy, with an industrial look of cement, wood, and metal. This area isn't downtown DSM, or an old warehouse reno where that would make sense, but a neighborhood strip mall. All personality of the place has been gutted, including the local artisans work on the walls, & the tile on the floor that honored God as you walked in. Now it's just another everyday sterile looking coffee shop. Hopefully there is still yet more work to do on the place that will breathe some life back in. read more

My first impression after walking in through the doors of Friederichs was that this was no ordinary coffee shop. This is so much like a college coffee house/hang out. A perfect oasis for a solid cup of coffee. Living off of truck stop coffee that is strong in some towns and in others tastes like its decaffeinated I was in need of real fuel. Out of pure luck I saw a sign for Friederichs instead of other coffee chains and pulled in and figured why not try something new. Loved it. I walked in the door and was greeted by the pungent smell of roasted coffee beans. The board wasn't hand written but it could have been. This definitely would be a great place to prepare for a meeting, study before finals or just snag a pastry. The service was wonderful, the girl working behind the counter was very friendly and was just as nice to her customers that were continuously coming through the drive thru. Definite things to keep in mind: There is a drive thru There is free wi-fi If ordering an americano-the coffee is so strong that you think there is a flavor added to it but it's just the coffee. Very fine establishment, cheap treats and a great way to start a day. read more

I found this place by accident when I was trying to find the Krispy Kreme. Wow, this is coffee heaven. I had a cup of joe and then had the snickerdoodle coffee beans to take back home. Friedrich's is generally a good coffee shop but I gave this location three stars because I've always had just sub-par experiences there compared to other locations. My favorite would still have to be the one on 86th st out in Johnston. I find this cafe a little too small for my tastes and it feels slightly cramped. However, there is a wonderful patio in the back outside that's outside to sit at, especially if you feel like there is no privacy inside the cafe. The most recent time I went there, I was displeased because I ordered a non-dairy strawberry stampede and it was bland and seemed overly watered down. Was more like a lightly sweetened icee. Also, my friend didn't get all her change back when ordered an iced coffee drink as if they were already taking the tip before asking. I've ordered their daily brew before and had a good experience but my experience so far has been off and on. read more

The prices were very reasonable, they had a great selection of different coffee beans that were for sale by the pound or 1/2 pound, and the guy working the counter was great. Today I stopped in to get a coffee after years of not having a cup at this location. I remember when this was a new shop and the baristas cared, not today! The place was basically empty, untidy and the two workers did the bare minimum required things to be open. Today many shops have great coffee and care about pleasing customers but not here, a smile was too much to ask for while greeting a customer. The coffee was less quality then what i paid for and the customer service was void. read more
